Julep is a regular brunch spot among my friends in the area. So nice that you can make reservations ahead of time - heard they get really busy. But we got lucky at 12 on a Sunday and wasn't crowded at all. Service was attentive and super friendly. My friends love their bloody mary - don't often seen one with an onion ring on it! One friend ordered the biscuits and gravy and had plenty of leftovers; the other ordered the filet for brunch. I got the Spanish skillet, which was delicious. Took home a few leftovers because I couldn't stop eating - could have taken more home oops. It's a nice spot for a treat-yourself brunch. Would love to come again next time I'm in the area. Parking can get packed, but it's a nice complex with Whole Foods and other spots.

This restaurant is sort of hidden away behind Mendocino Farms in a busy plaza. The interior is really cool and classy although I'm not sure what the theme is exactly...butterflies? The seating is mostly comfy booths and our service was quite personable and attentive. We were here for lunch and first ordered an appetizer: corn fritters. These were literally amazeballs. Crisp outside and warm, soft, and delicious inside. The bourbon maple syrup for dipping was soooooo good. If I'd been alone and no one was looking I'd grab that syrup cup and drink it like a shot. For lunch I got the Julep Cobb Salad. Their menu stated the ingredients were "romaine, blue cheese, tomatoes, bacon, grilled corn, hard-boiled egg, avocado, grilled chicken breast". There seemed like there was an entire head of lettuce...far too much lettuce! The abundant pieces of chicken were excellent and the egg and tomato pieces were good. The corn was quite sparse. I didn't ever find avocado, bacon, nor pieces of blue cheese. It was actually more like an enormous chicken salad. I liked it, everything was fresh, but it certainly wasn't anything close to what one would expect for a cobb. I had a lemonade to drink and it was quite good, a nice sweet to tart ratio. I liked this place but remain confused about the salad. If they ran out of ingredients they should just say so and give the customer an option to order something else. Or maybe there was someone new in the kitchen who had no clue what a cobb salad is? It remains a mystery.

On behalf of the vegetarian lifestylers, I'm told is a lifestyle not a diet, it's been good to stumble upon this place. Thanks to Timmy, my long term friend/yelper, we got to DESTROY some bomb corn fritters. I've loved corn dogs for the longest time but always threw away the dog on a stick after carefully devouring the fried corn batter and wished for things to be different. Maybe it was the hunger but damn those incredible two-biters makes coming back worth the drive. Stir the syrup before dipping for maximum bourbon flavor. The farro arugula salad was light and refreshing but piled like a plateable avalanche. A lot of greens dressed lightly and took a while to finally see the face of the plate. But perfect with a fried appetizer. My friend though was missing avocado and bacon on his Cobb salad and found the lettuce to be an admirable opponent. Romaine won and none's the wiser. Delicious coffee and very friendly service. But there was an unnecessary long wait before someone could sit us. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a romanticism/victorian, cool layout.

Happened to be in the area and stopped in for lunch with some family. The first thing that struck me is how dark and intimate it felt, even during the day, but in a good way. It felt fancier than it actually was, even a little cozy. It's a vibe I really enjoyed. I'll start by talking about server, Brent. He was awesome. Just a funny guy that helped make the experience fun. We started with some appetizers: corn fritters, Brussels sprouts, and spicy buffalo chicken wings. The corn fritters come with a bourbon maple glaze but I didn't think the two paired well together. They were just okay. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and I wish we got them with the goat cheese but some at our table didn't like it - can only imagine they'd be even better. The chicken wings were great - if you've ever had chicken wings before, then you know what you're in for. For the entree, I got a steak sandwich which on paper sounds amazing: ribeye, garlic aioli, arugula, sautéed mushrooms, jack cheese, crispy onion strings all on a French roll. Unfortunately, it was a little underwhelming. I can't pinpoint what exactly it was but it was just very...meh. I wish I had gotten the El Diablo burger instead (my cousin got this and raved about it). The only reason I didn't is because I had eaten a burger the day before so wanted to try something new. All in all, it was a good experience. If I ever come back, I'd definitely try different items but I still enjoyed what I got.

First time here and celebrated my Birthday Brunch! I ordered steak and eggs with Kentiki drink. I think they waited for majority of food to be done to bring ours up so my steak wasn't hot and I like to eat my food when it's hot/warmer side. My friends ordered the absinthe drink and it was really interesting! It definitely smelled like black licorice for sure when the water was getting mixed in the alcohol. I made reservations about a month in advance for group of 22 people. Server's name was Lex (on receipt) she was super nice and very attentive. Only downside was the sun was beaming on one side of our table so it was getting extremely hot. Server/staff should have assisted us in opening the umbrella for shade because my friends ended up doing it. Overall, most of my friends liked their meal and enjoyed all of our drinks!

Had a wonderful experience for brunch at Julep! Our servers Nana and Franco were very attentive and were very accommodating for our party of 10 without reservation. We were seated outside and they were kind to turn on the heaters. Food, ambiance and drinks were 10/10! I recommend coming here for brunch! Definitely make a reservation for less wait time and big parties!

Julep is located in a shopping center in east Brea. It shares a parking lot with a Whole Foods store and several other popular businesses, so parking can sometimes be a challenge. Julep is easy to find thanks to the large green faux ivy and signage outside which is a nice place to take a photo if you like. We dined early on a Thursday evening and the restaurant wasn't very busy yet. We were a little surprised there was no host and we had to wait almost five minutes for one of the servers to come and greet and seat us. We sat in a booth which was nice and comfy. The inside is lit a little on the darker side and has a bit of a lounge vibe with the bar in the center. There is also a covered patio area for dining. We were not in the mood for a full dinner and just came for a drink and some appetizers. I had the Corpse Reviver 2 cocktail which was good. She had the Ken-Tiki Tea Spiller which is served in a cool mermaid glass. I was really impressed by this drink, very rich and great flavor without being over the top sweet. This was almost as good as some of the rum drinks we get at our favorite tiki bar. We started out with nachos and added chicken. It was a giant plate of nachos with jalapenos, diced pico de gallo, cheese sauce, scallions, a sour cream drizzle, beans on the bottom and a good amount of chicken. They were very good and there was so much, we couldn't finish it all. We also ordered the jalapeno artichoke dip which was also a very generous portion served in a cast iron skillet. It normally comes with tortilla chips, but since we already had a big plate of nachos, our server said he could substitute their grilled crostini bread. The dip was great on the bread but all of the slices had big holes which made it a bit of a challenge to keep the dip on. Luckily we had a ton of nacho chips left to finish off the dip. It wasn't overly spicy but the jalapenos did add a nice layer of flavor and a bit of heat. We were stuffed and ready to head out but when I heard the next table order the lemon meringue cheesecake dessert, I had to order one to take home. We paid the check but unfortunately then had to wait almost 15 minutes for a boxed dessert to be brought to the table. I ate it at home later that night and it was delicious and worth the wait. Aside from the short delay to be seated and long wait for the to-go dessert, service in between was good this time and our server Brent was great. Overall 4.5 stars

Big shoutout to Nana for catering to my friend and I, as well as our server whose name I don't remember but he had glasses and was super sweet and attentive! We went around 1:30 pm on a Friday afternoon; it was super last minute but surprisingly it wasn't busy. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food and drinks were great, both proportion and flavor wise. Make sure to try the shrimp beignets! The restaurant is located in a strip mall-sort, but is easy to find, just beware of how full the parking lot can get (plan accordingly). The restaurant itself was beautiful inside and out; if you go during the day, I'd recommend to eat in the patio. I'll most definitely come back during the evening for dinner sometime!

We went here for my brothers birthday dinner on the recommendation of a friend who said their food was absolutely delicious... they weren't lying! The food was next level! We started with some appetizers.. shrimp beignets (WOW, AMAZING), corn fritters (delicious, but we didn't care for the bourbon sauce) and the Bavarian pretzel (huge and really good) Then onto dinner... (See pics) I think everyone ordered something different so we got a pretty good sampling of a few different menu items. Everybody loved their food, I had the classic burger and it was delicious. The meat of the best ones I've had. I also really loved that they had white cheddar cheese, sounds like a small thing but white cheddar on a burger is the best! I didn't love that they charge you $25 if you bring in a cake... I've never experienced that at any other restaurant. AND, we were actually still going to order dessert from them (ice cream) and also easily had about a $250+ food bill so I was annoyed at the $25 charge for cake. I suppose I could (maybe) understand it if we were not ordering desserts from them, but definitely planned on still ordering desserts and just having the cake as well. But when they presented us with the $25 fee. I said, never mind, CHECK PLEASE, we will take our cake and celebration elsewhere. The food was great, I would probably go back if I happen to be in the area, but wouldn't make a special trip... Definitely would not go here for any type of celebration that involved a cake

Food wasn't bad. Portion was huge. Service was good but they were really busy so drinks took some time. Cute ambiance!

Came here for weekend brunch and everything was great! Service was on point! Fried chicken sandwich and fried chicken and eggs were delicious! The Nutella French toast we would skip next time. It was dry and lacked flavor. Great outdoor seating area!

Came here on a whim with a party of 10 and they were able to seat us immediately! The friendly staff also set up heaters for us during our dining experience. Food & drinks: We ordered a variety of dishes including French toast, chilaquiles and eggs Benedict. Solid and straightforward dishes! We also ordered a variety of cocktails - very unique to Julep and great taste overall! Ambiance: The staff is friendly and attentive. Franco and Nana went above and beyond to make sure our group was taken care of! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a brunch spot that has it all!

How is the noise level during the dinner hours?

    It is decent

Can I bring a well behaved dog (not therapy/service dog) if we sit on the patio?

Yes you can bring your well behaved pup onto the patio for breakfast or lunch. The only thing we ask is that you don’t put them on the booth seats or chairs. Dinner is very busy so we ask patrons to not bring pets during dinner.

Is the lunch menu served on the weekend or just breakfast and then dinner?

We have breakfast until 3pm today. We also served burger and sandwiches just not heavier dinner items until after 3. If you have any problems you can show them this message, Cynthia

When making reservations a $25 deposit is required per person but will be applied to your bill day of visit. The hostess was very kind upon check in and took us to the back where the 46 door is. She provided us a code and explained the time limit along with house rules. We were then told to knock on the door and proceed with the experience. Kudos to the owner as this is the only speakeasy in the OC that has a true speakeasy feel entrance. They had a gentleman open the peephole and ask for the entry code. Once we said the code we entered a really cool mine shaft area. The attention to detail was on point and I was impressed! We were then taken upstairs to a private bar where there are four tables of four so a max of 16. This makes sense as to why reservations are hard to come by. The only ding about seating is you are sat with strangers it is not a private table. Luckily we had a fun older couple at our table so it made the conversation more lively. Otherwise don't go here with an expectation of an intimate/ private date night. They also offer a limited food menu but looked very promising. However, we were here for a night cap so just dabbled in drinks. The bartender had a seasonal menu of 4 cocktails he created. He explained the drinks and then had us try each one with a straw. We then placed our order based on what we liked. He did say if we were not a fan he could create us our own personal cocktail as well. The old fashion he created was phenomenal! Overall, a cool little spot in the OC. Do wish they were open later as they do close at 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

It is located in downtown Fullerton, next to the Les Amis Lebanese/Mediterranean restaurant. Look for the entrance on the west side of the building with a red entrance and Chapter 4 projection logo on the sidewalk. You can make a reservation on their website. We walked in and were greeted immediately. Seating options include tall chairs at the bar, low booths along the front wall across from the bar, and various tables in the main lounge area. All of the chairs look very comfortable. We sat in one of the booths across from the bar. It has a great vibe inside with a dark ceiling and walls, and is lit on the dimmer side. There was light lounge/soft jazz music playing when we visited. They also have live jazz music on some nights. A bowl of nuts, water, and menus arrived quickly. They have a great menu of house-curated cocktails, their spins on classic cocktails, and a large list of whiskeys and other spirits. They also have several food items on the menu. They have private liquor lockers available to store personal bottles for members Before I continue, I have to say that JC, one of the owners, who greeted us and was our server all evening, provided outstanding hospitality. While researching their bar menu online, we saw the cloud cocktail which had a very unique presentation with a burning ember cloud-like display. We came for my girlfriend's birthday, and she knew that would be her first drink. Unfortunately when we tried to order it, they were out of the gas for it. We noticed that the physical menu was a little different than the online menu. Apparently they had just changed the menu and had not updated the website yet. She wanted the Dirty Dill which wasn't on the new cocktail menu, but they were still able to make it. Dirty Dill (Gin, Vodka, Lemon, Pickle Juice, Olive Juice, Milk Washed & Clarified, $19). We could smell pickle on the nose, but when we took a sip, it was very boozy with little pickle or olive flavor. We asked if they could add some more pickle juice, and JC brought us a big shot glass of pickle juice so she could adjust it to her liking. She liked it once she added some more pickle juice. I started out with the Cococacaocoladaclara cocktail (Cacao-Infused Rum, Orange Liquor, Pineapple & Lime Juice, Coconut Milk Clarified, $18). This wasn't quite what I was expecting, and I had a hard time picking out the flavors. It was definitely strong and boozy. We were finishing our first round when we spotted JC walking towards our table with a cloud! He managed to find whatever it takes to make the effect, and we were very appreciative. I have seen a lot of presentations, and this was definitely a unique one. The birthday shot was very good, and he said the ingredients were mezcal, lavender, and lemon. Old Fashioneds have been growing on me lately. After the great presentation of the cloud, I had to try the Sinatra Old Fashioned (Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select, one dash of chocolate Bitters, $40). It is served in a rotating crystal glass, lit from underneath, with a clear ice sphere. Again, the presentation was great, and it was the smoothest old fashioned I've ever had. She had her eye on the Tuk Tuk for her second drink (Coconut Fat Washed Rum, Supasawa, Pandan Syrup, Mango Syrup, Rice Garnish, $18). She asked if it was very sweet, and he said that it was indeed quite sweet. Instead, she opted for the Firefox (Vodka, Pomegranate, Lemon, Vanila, Rose Liquor, Cherry Bitters, $18). Once again, this cocktail had a great presentation. It's served in a short, wide glass that sits perfectly on top of a piece of petrified-looking wood. You hold the glass with both hands and sip it like a bowl of soup. It was very balanced and smooth, with a nice tartness and light sweetness. JC stopped by again to check on our second round. A few minutes later he surprised us again, and returned with shot sized versions of the Tuk Tuk to sample. It was definitely on the sweeter side with good coconut and pandan flavor. We probably would have tried a third round, but we had dinner and a drink before coming here. Their menu of house-curated cocktails is impressive, and features many uncommon ingredients. We had a good time, but JC went the extra mile for us all night long and made it a great time. We will definitely return again.

There are a lot of bars in the area, but Chapter 4 is a touch classier, offering craft cocktails in a smaller, intimate setting. Service is overall very nice. The servers check up on you often and are friendly. The ambiance is moody, and on a cold winter night, feels warm and inviting. For regular patrons, lockers are available to store your personal collection of spirits, so that you may enjoy your favorite brews in the atmosphere of Chapter 4. We visited right in time for their winter seasonal menu. The Candlelight Confession from this menu is delicious, and served with a torched marshmallow. From their signatures, I really enjoyed La Peligrosa, a tequila based cocktail that was floral and refreshing. My drink of choice recently, however, has been a Pornstar Martini. I asked the bartender if he could make one for me, and he just happened to have the ingredients necessary. So he did :) It was really good.  I enjoyed myself so much on my first visit that I invited more of my friends to come the following Friday. There were 7 of us total. It was a tight squeeze, but they were able to fit us all at a table. I'm very grateful to the staff for accommodating us, but I definitely would recommend visiting with a smaller party. There was live music that night with a trumpet player, livening up the air with jazz music. We had Pornstar Martinis again, which were amazing. I also dabbled in their whiskey cocktails as those are their specialty. The High Society was quite the showstopper, arriving at our table topped with a woolen cloud set ablaze. The way the embers danced was nothing short of magic. Removing the cloud revealed a wispy layer of smoke, which was both captivating and added depth to the drink. The rye whiskey was smooth and palatable, with a steady warmth as opposed to a harsh burn and flavored by cherry bitters. I don't usually drink darks, but this was very enjoyable. I also took the opportunity to sample the Démodé, Chapter 4's take on an Old Fashioned, garnished with an orange peel and a Luxardo cherry. Like the High Society, the whiskey was smooth and enjoyable to sip over time.  I love Chapter 4. The drinks are palatable and interesting. The staff is welcoming and kind. The atmosphere is classy, yet laid back and cozy. In a downtown district filled with sports bars and pubs (which can be fun), Chapter 4 is my calm eye of the storm, a place to sit, relax, and enjoy the night with well crafted drinks and conversation.

We attended a special Chartreuse tasting event at Strong Water which was being held in honor of…read moreChartreuse week and Chartreuse Day 1605 (May 16), the annual celebration of Chartreuse's origins and history. The tasting featured a great lineup of green and yellow Chartreuse paired with small bites. It concluded with a complementary Chartreuse-based cocktail from one of five recipes. Brand ambassador Taylor guided the event and began by telling us about the unique history of Chartreuse. The tasting started out with a small spoonful of Vegetal Elixir Chartreuse to warm up the palate. This is the base spirit of both green and yellow Chartreuse and clocks in at 138 proof. It was surprisingly not harsh, but immediately kicked my salivary glands into overdrive. I didn't even know that vintages of Chartreuse was a thing, but Taylor walked us through tasting three different vintages of both yellow and green Chartreuse, and it was surprising how different they were. The lineup concluded with more rare varietals of the green elixir 1605 and yellow cuvee. Great job, thanks Taylor! Chef Kling presented each small bite which included a crispy Icelandic cod, a roasted beet crostino, and a lamb slider. All of them had a five star list of ingredients and were delicious. Strong Water is known for their excellent cocktails, but their food is also great. For my cocktail at the end of the event, I had the Bar Flower (Green Chartreuse, Crème de Cacao, Pineapple, Lime). This was so good, with the herbal and chocolate flavors perfectly balanced. It was served with a flaming lime half. This was such a great event! Chartreuse retails for around $100 a bottle, and the higher-end varieties cost even more. At just $45 per person, this event was an amazing bargain. Strong Water frequently hosts great events, so keep an eye on their social media for upcoming dates. I really love Chartreuse, so I went back a few days later on the last day of Chartreuse week to try a few of the other limited time cocktails. I started out with their twist on a Grasshopper (Chartreuse, Crème de Menthe, Chili Liqueur, Crème de Cacao, Cream, Cane, $22). This was a great classic Grasshopper, but the Chartreuse added a herbal complexity, and there is a dash of heat on the finish from the chili liqueur. Next I had the Flare Gun (Yellow Chartreuse, Overproof Rum, Italian Bitter, Lime, Cane, $20). The yellow Chartreuse definitely comes through, but it's softer and has a light sweetness, unlike the green variety. Even though it contains overproof rum, it is perfectly balanced and not boozy at all. I usually don't like bitter drinks, but the bitterness was at a perfect light level. I finished off with the Tales from the Black Lagoon which is my favorite drink here, and it's also a favorite of many of the bartenders. All three cocktails were a home run. Chartreuse is an expensive spirit, so those drinks cost a little more than average. Shout out to Karen, Joey, Edgar, Jordan, and Ying for excellent hospitality, as always. Strong Water is our favorite place. We can't wait to go back!

We arrived around 6pm on a Sunday evening and we were bummed that it was packed full inside. We decided to go have a drink upstairs, and then come back down later to see if it was any less busy. There must have been one big group who left because 30 minutes later, it was completely empty inside. There are a few wood tables outside of the entrance and several two seat tables along the outside of the side of the train, but for a first visit we definitely wanted to be inside. When you come inside at BXCR, there are two long green couches along each side that wrap around to the entrance to maximize available space. There are two steamer trunks on each side that serve as tables. We were surprised that all of the tables had a Yahtzee game on them, and we had a blast playing that while we enjoyed our drinks. If you happen to roll a Yahtzee, they give you a candle as a prize. There is good background music playing that fits the environment. There is some good décor with overhead baggage racks and international clocks on one wall, and gauges on the wall next to the bar. There are some small rectangular windows along the top of both sides, and some curtained windows on the right side which do let a little light in. When the main entrance door is opened before its dark outside, it does let quite a bit of light in and kills the ambience temporarily. I would recommend coming closer to or after sunset to not let any outside sunlight interfere with your experience. The drinks are made at the bar in the rear where there are several seats and a little standing room. It wasn't on the current menu, but I saw on a previous menu they had an Amaretto Sour so I started with that, and it did not disappoint. It was nice and frothy from an egg white and had Angostura bitters on top. My girlfriend started with the Calm Cruise which was great. It's basically a Pina Colada, but with an additional honeydew flavor in the background. For number two, I tried the C-League cocktail. The smokiness of Mezcal has grown on me lately if it is not the primary flavor, and in this drink it is at a nice level somewhere in the middle. The cucumber and cilantro are definitely present, along with a little heat from the ancho verde and a little sweetness from the Luxardo maraschino. This is a excellent easy-drinking tequila cocktail. Her number two was the Aviation which she enjoyed. Vince was our main bartender along with Sarah. They were very friendly and fun to chit-chat with while they were mixing up our drinks. This is definitely a cool place to check out, and we will definitely return.
