Stairway to enter after giving password

46 A Speakeasy was a very cool experience that I really enjoyed. I recently had came across this new speakeasy on Instagram and was instantly wanting to come here. Luckily for us they had a single day showing openings and after putting in a reservation request we were lucky enough to be granted a spot at a later time slot for the same night. The place is owned and operated by Rockwells and is exclusively by reservation only as it only accommodates around 16 guests in seats of 2. You will have guests across from you if booked as a party of 2. The check-in process is done inside the main Rockwells Bakery entrance and your entrance will be staggered so you get the full speakeasy experience. Once your reservation has been made and deposit ($25 per person non refundable but will go toward your bill) you will be given the password and address. Upon being escorted to the entrance you knock on the door, provide the password and will be given the rules. You will the take the stairs where you will be given a small tasting and description of all.of the nights cocktails (you are not confined to these and they will also make what you want or let the run wild if you want something unique and off menu). They also have several great food options from a charcuterie plate, lobster rolls, burger, steak and fries, burrata salad and creme brulee for dessert. The drinks will run around $20 each but are made well and are not your simple run of the mill cocktails and each represents the place well. The staff was very friendly and accommodating (albeit a bit slow on the night we came) but they have only been open for a short time. With Instagram advertising it has been blowing up and they are currently booked solid though November. They are open on Friday and Saturdays only with slots at 7:00 or 9:00. We opted for a charcuterie plate, 2 cocktails each and a creme brulee to share for dessert and it ran us about $100 after the deposit was credited. They do add a 20% tip automatically as well but we did leave a little something extra for for the small team as well. This was overall a very cool experience that I will definitely return to again. Anyone looking for a quality speakeasy with great drinks, a good food menu and a friendly staff this is a place you should definitely check out. A 5 star experience that will only get better as they work out timing issues.

46 is a new speakeasy that just recently opened at Rockwell's Bakery in Villa Park. They are currently only open on Friday and Saturday nights with timeslots at 7pm and 9pm. Seating is limited and by reservation only. Go to the Rockwell's website to request a reservation from the list of available dates and times. If you manage to snag a spot, there is a $25 per person deposit which will be applied to your bill. When you arrive, check-in with the host at Rockwell's. One at a time, each party gets their own short experience. You are escorted through the bar area and out the side door of the building. A few steps away there is a wooden door with a sheriff's office sign and an illuminated number 46 on the door. Walk up to the door, knock, and you will be asked for the password supplied with your reservation. The entrance to 46 is definitely the most unique and immersive of any speakeasy or bar we have ever been to. When the door opened, we were greeted by Chuck who I spoke to on the phone to book the reservation. The Sheriff's office area is dimly lit and contains two cells of locked up liquor bottles and another cell with the sheriff's desk and files illuminated in red. You then walk through a gate and up the wooden stairs through the dimly lit mineshaft with rock walls and a rock ceiling. There are even rumbling sounds as you ascend. Turn right at the top of the stairs, and you enter the bar area. You can tell there was a lot of time and effort put into the décor. It is very new looking, but very authentic at the same time. Both walls at the top of the stairs give the illusion of a much longer staircase and wider bar area. The walls are a great mix of wood and stone, and even the rocky ceiling makes you feel as though you are sitting in a carved out spot inside a mine. We walked down to the bar area and were greeted by Nick. There is no drink menu. They were showcasing four different cocktails and you could taste each one by dipping a new straw into each and pulling out a sample. If you don't care for any of them, you can request a drink or have the bartender create something for you. My girlfriend and I have different tastes, but we each liked two of the four drinks, so it worked out perfectly. We were the first party in our timeslot, so this whole time we had the place to ourselves. When we finished sampling the cocktails and were seated, the next party came in for their solo time, and so on. I think it's great they do it this way instead of having a large group of up to 16 people come in at once. My first cocktail was the Creamsicle margarita. It had a nice creamy mouthfeel with a light orange flavor that wasn't overly sweet. This was definitely different than your average margarita. Her first was the Zesty Alchemist which is served in a wine glass which makes it feel like a large drink. It has Grey Goose vodka, passion fruit, and ginger, and was light and refreshing with a great nose. My second cocktail was the Nuttin But Honey old fashioned. They infuse the rye with honey in-house along with a fat wash. I like my old fashioned with something in it to take down the alcohol bite a bit, and this one did a great job of doing that by adding some sweetness and complexity to make a real smooth cocktail. Her second was The Golden Peach. If I'm not mistaken, I think the alcohol was bourbon but it was extremely well balanced with a great peach flavor that wasn't too sweet. All four featured cocktails were very good. We came during the 9pm time slot, so we had already eaten dinner. A snack is always good with drinks, so we ordered the charcuterie board. It had three different meats, two cheeses, four crisp pieces of bread, olives, grapes, a strawberry jam, and a spicy mustard. The plate was on the smaller side, but it was a perfect sized late night snack to go along with two rounds of drinks. We were starting to wind down the evening when Nick brought us two complementary shots. One was a bourbon basil mix, and the second was a vodka mint mix. The vodka mint shot blew me away, and I ended up ordering a full sized version. I think he said it was vodka, honey, lemon, and mint, and I'm guessing a little strawberry puree. It was so bright, flavorful, and refreshing. I easily could have had a few more of those. Nick was more or less a one man show with just a little help. In addition to making some great drinks, he provided great service. We really enjoyed chatting with him for a while at the end of the evening, and you can tell he has a lot of passion for 46. The area is small and seats a maximum of 16 people. The only potential negative is that on a busy night, you will be seated across from strangers. We were fortunate that it wasn't full during our visit, and we had our own table with an additional empty table next to us. It is a small place, and they need to fill the seats so I get it. This is a great new speakeasy that I would definitely recommend visiting.

What a neat find. Steven had been telling me that there was a new speakeasy located at Rockwell's Bakery and that you had to put in reservations. Currently, it is only open on Friday and Saturday evenings, at 7:00pm and 9:00pm. He had requested 7:00 but the only slots available were at 9:00 so he snagged them. When you arrive, you check in at the hostess stand at the bakery and it comes as first come first serve, reservation only. They take your party each separately, minutes apart, so that each party gets the full speakeasy experience. Once called, you are escorted over to the secret door where you knock and provide the password that is given to you at the time of reservation. It was really cool and definitely had a speakeasy theme all around it. The owner let us in and talked about the room for a bit as we observed alcohol tucked away behind metal bars. If you got into trouble, you would be locked in the cell! Just kidding, it was computer screens with cameras hidden behind a jail cell door. As we were walked into the bar area we were introduced to the bartender and the server for the night. They had a flight of four cocktails out which were their specials for the night. If you really did not want any of them, you could request something. We were able to take samples of each one and took our seat. The room currently allows for 16 people to sit along two rows of 8, and oddly enough, every party was a party of 2 that night. Everyone ended up mingling with strangers now sitting across from them. We were the one exception with our own section. The service was really great and friendly from start to finish, between the food and drinks and checking up on us. The service was a bit slow which could be improved, and I noticed some confusion multiple times regarding what order the drinks were made (we were almost last even though we were the third to order), food orders, and then even when paying the bill. All was squared away. Due to the hype on IG, reservations were already booked through October as of a week ago, so hurry up and get a reservation if you can.

Please take me back here! The food and drinks were phenomenal! I loved the honey butter old fashioned, and my husband enjoyed the orange creamsicle margarita, which surprisingly wasn't as sweet as it sounded. I appreciated the opportunity to sample each drink before purchasing, especially since the cocktails came with a hefty price tag of $20. If the featured cocktails don't tickle your fancy, the mixologist can craft whatever you're craving for the same price as the specialty drinks. We ordered the burger, which was juicy and topped with a delectable apple whiskey chutney that elevated it beyond my expectations. The 16 oz ribeye was excellent and paired perfectly with the best yuca fries I've ever tasted, and that spicy chimichurri was to die for! The manager and bartender shared the responsibility of waiting tables and did a damn good job of doing so. With only 4 tables and 16 seats, the need for additional servers wasn't warranted. The old mineshaft decor spoke for itself. It gave Thunder Mountain vibes in the best possible sense. We really enjoyed our dining experience at 46. I'd rather spend $250 here than at some stuffy, swanky steakhouse. Even though we arrived as a party of two, we were fortunate enough to have a table to ourselves. I don't think the experience would have been the same had they sat us with strangers. That's just odd to me - and very uncomfortable. The 90 minutes flew by. I wish we had more time to enjoy our perfect date night. The process of booking on the website was simple: -fill out an interest form -receive a call from Chuck about 9-10 days before the requested date (if you get in) -pay a $25 deposit per person via a link sent by text -check in with the hostess at Rockwell's

I had an amazing experience here. The best speakeasy in North OC, hands down, with a great menu! I ordered their burger, which has Brie cheese, apple chutney, and bacon. Was so good! The bartender was great and they gave good recommendations on drinks. Their smoked Old Fashioned was a show stopper, and they had a good tequila based drink too. I love the miner deep ambiance here. Literally you feel like you're about to go on a Disneyland ride when you get you up the stairs to the speakeasy. It's not easy to get reservations here, but my goodness it's worth it. I want to go in the spring since they change the menu here every quarter.

If you like speakeasies you gotta check this place out! It's reservation only and they're only open Fridays and Saturdays. It's decorated like an old mining camp with oak barrels, dynamite, old glass bottles, and wanted posters. They have a very impressive collection of spirits. They've only been open for a few weeks and are still working on their drink menu, making tweaks and perfecting everything. Worth going though if you can get in. You walk up to the door, knock and give the password. Then you're led to the tasting room. You're given a taste of their current specialty cocktails which you can choose from, or have them make any other cocktail you'd like. Let them get creative, you won't be disappointed! We started with a honey butter whiskey cocktail called "Nuttin But Honey". It was delicious with some sweet notes but very balanced. My fiancé got the "Zesty Alchemist" which was a very refreshing citrus drink, not too sweet but really good. For our second round we both got their special Old Fashioned which uses fat washed (in bacon) whiskey. It was so smooth with a little smokey flavor, garnished with a perfectly crispy slice of bacon. Totally worth getting! They do have a food menu as well and everything looks and sounds so good. We decided on the crispy pork belly. It was a nice big chunk of pork belly perfectly cooked and covered with a tasty sweet sauce. It was laid on top of a bed of roasted corn (esquites) and cilantro crema. It was the perfect bite with our drunks! To finish I had the mixologist make me a rye whiskey based drink. He did NOT disappoint! He made a delicious drink with Bulleit Rye, Chambord, and pineapple. It was such a great finish to a wonderful experience! The bartenders and hosts are great, very attentive and helpful with their explanations. Don't be afraid to ask questions and explore new flavors here, they're here to guide you. We'll be back as soon as possible!

We tried this speakeasy and what a really nice time we had there. the drinks were great and the food was great. what more can you ask for??? The bartender was very kneadable and went over the drinks they had for the evening. We loved the old Fashoned they made. The food we tried was also great. The friend we made sitting at the table was nice. There are a few tables, and they have guests share a table which is nice for meeting new people and great conversation. If you want a great night out and some great conversation you have to try this location.

There was a total of 4 of us and had a great time at the speakeasy. You check in at the bakery with a hostess and she/he will guide you to the front door when ready. We had 7pm reservations and downside we didn't get sat until 7:30 and they have timed seatings. We tried all of their holiday drinks and also had 2 appetizers (charcuterie board and lobster Mac and cheese) and we also ordered the crab stuffed prawns, burger, and bacon wrapped dates. Everything was delicious. The decorations for the holidays was so cute.

This is a new hidden Gem of a speakeasy. It is an amazing experience from the door knock to the time you are seated and then drinks / dinner. They have worked hard on small details all around the speakeasy and it's awesome. Bartender is one of the best and so is the server. It's a small intimate experience and I highly recommend one should try. We can't wait to visit again when they have Christmas decorations. Thanks again for an amazing night last night.

We really enjoyed our experience at 46 A Speakeasy. It felt like a real speakeasy from the password to the coziness nestled in a secret spot behind Rockwells. After arriving to 46, we were able to sample 4 different specialty drinks and choose one of them. And seated at our table. If you're a party less than 4. You will be joined with another party. Initially, it may feel awkward however after the icebreaker. It works! They have a nice food menus. The dates and burger were delicious! Besides the speciality drinks they also have a full bar so I opted for a regular old fashioned and it was delish! Since the speakeasy can hold a max of 16 ppl, service was superb and attentive. Pricing was reasonable for what it is. Note: service charge (tip) is included. I wish they would have told me. It was dark and I didn't have my glasses. Also after 2 drinks.... I added another 20% on top of that. I didn't even notice until I got home. But what is done is done. Would I return? yes! We enjoyed it so much. We have already recommended so many people and they have gone and enjoyed it as well!!

After our party of six chatted over cocktails and preyed on pupus, we moved to a "secret" room tucked in the back of Stowaway and walked into a Belly Of The Beast. The founders and co-owners of Stowaway, Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, created this extension to the tiki bar with a wildly interesting Pinocchio theme and the famed encounter with Monstro the whale all the while serving the same offerings in Stowaway but with also an exclusive limited menu just for this adventure. With its proximity to Disneyland and its Enchanted Tiki Room, with the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture they found a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, tropical trimmings, and nostalgic know-how. How would my belly handle the beastly drinks concocted here!? PURCHASE(S) Gepetto's Last Words ($16.00): Intrigued by the cocktail's name, this elixir was crafted with Fid Street Gin, tangerine, creme de violette, lemon, and cucumber, it was a citrusy refreshing sweet drink that was decorated with bright yellow petals. It was nice, but for whatever reason it just didn't quite hit the spot. [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 4.0 of 5.0 STARS] Onion Rings ($9.00): A decent portion with rings of medium to large sizes, these were hot, dark golden browned, crunchy, and had a slight tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (sweet Maui!) rarely pulled out at times. They were lightly oily while the catsup wasn't needed but used. SERVICE While in Stowaway, we informed our male server to let us know when we were allowed to enter the belly. Once inside and situated, we had the place and bartender to ourselves. After we all perused the menu, we placed our orders, and everything arrived within ten minutes. The rest of the time was spent chatting, picture taking, and our bartender checked in on us also giving a Dole Whip taster. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE "Hidden" inside Stowaway which was located within a strip mall, the entire theme was based on the Pinocchio story, the interlude in time spent inside Monstro, and as we entered it felt like the beginning of the Disneyland "Storybook" ride as you road a canal boat into the mouth and sharp teet of a whale. There were several marionettes (appropriate and non-appropriate) that hung from the ceiling and belly walls, along with other Disneyesque memorabilia, a few sitting booths, and a tiny bar at the end of the roo. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights and table candles glowed. There were no TVs while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL Belly Of The Beast was an adventurous fun evening with friends, it left me feeling childlike with the need to watch "Pinocchio", and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I generally loved all-things Disneyana, and this new wrinkle, albeit probably not approved by the mouse ears brass, caught my fancy. My one drink was tasty but just didn't hit the right spot, the onion rings were very good, the prices were a tad elevated, the atmosphere was awesome, and the service was friendly and professional. They had an extremely limited menu, and there was some doubt whether or not ordering from the Stowaway menu was an option. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $27.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

They always do a great job with decorating when they have a new theme in effect, and the Great Gatsby décor is no exception. The room is filled with lots of gold streamers, hanging gold light fixtures, art deco artwork, Roman columns, etc. Reservations are highly recommended. We checked in at the host stand with Emma who was very friendly. She seated us immediately at the bar as requested. We enjoy talking with the bartenders and watching them make drinks. Ruben was our bartender and he was excellent in all aspects. I started out with Between the Sheets from the Gatsby menu (rum, cognac, orange, lemon, $18). Rum and cognac is a great combo. This cocktail is spirit forward and well balanced. She started out with a Bartender's Reserve (you call the spirit and flavor profile, and the bartender crafts something special for you, $20). She gave parameters of no hard liquors like whiskey or cognac, not sweet, and not refreshing (i.e. no cucumber). Ruben made the most amazing gin based cocktail. Some of the ingredients he mentioned were plum, passion fruit, pineapple, lime, and a bit of chartreuse and soda. It was complex and perfectly balanced, with great flavors. We have been here many times, and he even served it in a unique tiki mug that we've never seen here before. Now it was my turn to put Ruben to the test. I also wanted a Bartender's Reserve, and I told him to use any spirit as long as the drink focuses on banana or apricot flavor. He went to work, and after a short time a beautiful frosted glass was served to me. I forget all of the ingredients he mentioned, but it was rye based with banana liqueur, a small foam top, and fresh shaved cinnamon on top. The banana was perfectly present with the rye at a nice level. This was a home run all the way. Of course, she wanted another magical creation, and Ruben went to work yet once again. She was served a beautiful yellow cocktail, and he even hand cut a little lemon fish garnish. It was mezcal based with yuzu, elderflower, mango, and lime. It was perfectly balanced, the smoke was at the perfect level, and again it had a great mix of flavors. There was some left over, and he even gave that to her in a chilled side bottle with its own baby's breath flower garnish. It's so fun to watch their bartenders create something from scratch, grabbing various bottles, mixing, tasting, adjusting, and then garnishing and serving. In addition to Ruben's delicious creations tonight, Adrian and Sergio have also made us delicious custom crafted cocktails on several occasions. We will definitely be returning soon for some of their new upcoming themes.

Faster than our drink orders. -the campfire guacamole -BBQ shoestring fries (had bbq seasoning all over them so it tasted like a BBQ potato chip) -Glamping plate (charcuterie board) -steak tacos (one without onion and cilantro -churro affogato Again, the food was VERY fast!! And to be honest it wasn't that bad. I'll say, speakeasy's usually shine in the drink department vs food. Drinks -Lycheed and Loaded Ketel One, lychee liqueur, lemon, elderflower. This was extremely delicious! If you don't like to taste your alcohol? Go with this. It was really refreshing. Hand this to me at a spa and I'd be the happiest gal in the world -Camp Anawanna $17 Graham cracker-infused bourbon, licor 43, chocolate, torched marshmallow (the waitress catches the marshmallow on fire at the table) This one was stronger and I didn't think it was overly sweet despite the ingredients I think they had a good selection, especially for a small speakeasy. I have been to better, so I don't think I'd return. Especially since the service was not that great. We still had a good time and recommend for every speakeasy lovers list.

Someone from the inside opened it for us as my friend said, you have to pull :) Our server was amazing, she was so friendly and fun. The drinks were delicious!!! I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Eggrolls and they were good, but they were definitely not Philly cheesesteak material. The doors make it so its not fully dark in here, but it does have a nice ambiance. All staff was very friendly and we had a nice time.

When you go thru the sliding doors it immediately transports you to a different time and place. Its very dark. Sleek. And modern. Yet simple. I love the big screen tvs with areal views of New York. It just made it feel like we were in a high rise building or a blimp with a birds eye view of many of New Yorks beautiful landmarks. The couches were extremely comfortable too. Great cushion. You just sink into them. Its a small area but great utilization of the space, making it seem large and spacious. The chairs too were really comfortable to sit in. We spent 3 hours in there and it flew by so quickly. The ambiance and feel here was just truly top notch. Our waitress was Brandy, or is it Brandi? She was super cool. She was a one person crew. Basically getting orders, making drinks, cleaning tables, and checking in on us. And she did it with great charisma, attitude and personality. Super knowledgeable about the menu. Made great drinks quickly. And was just super personable. Great job from her!! Her attitude and demeanor really matched the top tier aura they were going for here. They have a great selection of drinks. From more alcohol forward drinks to light and fruity drinks to refreshing drinks. I really did enjoy their drink selections. We had a total of about 6 drinks and they were all really good! We got there: 1. Fox's wedding- light, seeet and refreshing. I love the origami piece that Brandy put on it as well. Looked so beauitful. 2. Guava chiffon pancake- it was tropical, light but also had a coconut feel to it. It was really good. 3. The Monroe- this was light but tart, but not too tart. Silky with fruit forward notes. 4. Miso honey butter corn- rarely is a savory cocktail good. But this one was pretty good. The butter fat washed burbon was super intriguing. But it works well 5. When pigs fly- came with a paper airplane on top!! Haha. Love the playfulness. But the drink was so complex yet smooth. It was really good. For the bourbon drinkers, this one is for you! 6. Smoked Old Fashion- presentation is amazing. Comes in a big glass case that has cherry wood smoke inside. When you open it, you get that intense smell of burning cherry wood. Drink is smokey but in a very good way. Tasted amazing. A true classic done right. Their food menu is very encompassing and thorough as well. From full on burgers, to flat breads, to appetizers and small bites, to salads. They have a little of everything!! We ordered the following: 1. Pub nachos- this was an extremely large plate of loaded nachos. Super crunchy and fresh. I loved the generous amount of Chipotle chicken on top. The pepper jack queso sauce and jalapeño crema was a really good sauce. It just binded everything together. The beans and the fresh jalapeño just really all worked together. It was super good. Kept you grazing and munching away, but never becoming too full (more room for their drinks!!). 2. Figgy piggy flat bread- it was ok. Sweet caramel onions and fig jam, paired with some pungent cheeses. I thought it was pretty good. 3. Shrimp street tacos- 1 order comes with 2 tacos. They were good sizes. I love their tacos. So flaverful. Everything works together. Just tasted amazing!! Overall everything about this place is 5 stars. The ambiance, the decor, the exclusivity. The service. The drinks and the food. As i said 3 hours went by so fast!! Definitely a must try when in the area. And when you stay at the Marriott, its just a simple walk back to your room. And we left feeling happy and amazing. Thank you very much Brandy!!

Tried out the Seoul Rider, which was so unique and savory but fresh. Key notes if flavor were kimchi and fish sauce, but honestly very well blend. Sounds a little intimidating, but honestly was great. I already love Miche's, Bloody Mary's, and dirty martinis. So if you are more of a savory esque person, this drink is fun to try if you adventurous. They garnished with a green onion which I frickn love. Oh So Jaded, a gin crafted drink with notes of kiwi and fresh cracked peppercorn. Ugh, so fresh and good. She Devil, such a great drink if you like Moscow Mules or ginger tasting drinks. Kiss My Hisbicus, such a pretty and fruit drink. Definitely on the sweet side an dangerous cause you don't taste the alcohol at all lol. Great bar to stop by with a friend or two to catch up. Very small and limited seating.

It was still very easy to order at the bar, loved the unique cocktail menu, the drinks were yummy! I am giving it 3 stars since it is very cramped, hard to talk to anyone since it's loud, nowhere really to sit unless you get lucky, and can have a long wait time. Overall not bad if you have time and want to try a more unique cocktail/bar experience.

It's the perfect place to unwind with friends. Recently, my buddies ordered the beef stroganoff while I had my usual steak salad (which was spot‑on, as always). I tried a bite of their stroganoff and instantly knew I needed my own. The portion was huge, the flavor was incredible, and it completely exceeded expectations. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. The Tartan Room is exactly the kind of place locals like me keep coming back to. Thanks again -- you've earned another loyal visit from someone who's been in Orange for nearly five decades.

It's cozy, nostalgic, and feels like stepping back into another era. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the setting. We tried appetizers and entrées, and everything was surprisingly bland. It wasn't that the dishes were overcooked or poorly presented, they simply tasted like they had been prepared without even the most basic seasoning. A little salt alone would have made a noticeable difference. The ambience is absolutely worth experiencing, service was impeccable, especially if you enjoy vintage supper clubs and live entertainment. I just wish the kitchen matched the quality of the dining room. If the food ever catches up to the atmosphere, I'd happily give it another try.
