    Thanksgiving meal service

My lady friend always raves about the Tartan Room. I looked and saw they had a Thanksgiving dinner for $65. She was happy and I made reservations. They had two seatings 1:00 to 3:00 or 3:30 to 5:30. We took the early seating. You had a choice of ham, turkey, salmon, prime rib, or ham and turkey. My lady chose ham and turkey; I went with prime rib. We got green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, salad, and a dinner roll. I really love prime rib, and this didn't disappoint, it was amazing. I can't believe my lady friend has never had prime rib, she enjoyed the taste I gave her. Some people don't like rare meat, but prime rib should be rare to medium rare. The mashed potatoes were fresh and not from a box. You could see the small chunks of potato. The gravy was delicious. I loved the homemade stuffing. I always enjoy a nice dinner salad. I think my lady friend enjoyed her food too. She had a smile the whole time. Service was amazing. Everyone was so nice. Everyone wished all the customers a happy Thanksgiving. This was a two-hour seating, and we stayed almost the whole time. Nobody was rushed. It seemed like everyone had a good time. I can't wait to bring my lady friend back for a regular meal service. We also want to check out the entertainment schedule.

Split King Cut Prime Rib and Lobster

Kept hearing about this mom and pop place and finally went. We were pleasantly surprised! It's tucked away in a strip mall. With tartan plaid table cloths and an old school diner vibe, the food was great! We got their signature prime rib and lobster. While they used unsalted butter for the lobster, and the Aus jus was unflavored, nothing a little salt can't fix. The prime rib was cooked perfectly to medium rare. We shared this massive plate and they split it for us which was so fantastic! The salad was great with their homemade ranch. The service is so great, she was attentive and quick the entire night! I'd come back here again for a great home cooked meal with a comfort vibe. Did I mention we were also serenaded by an Elvis impersonator?

Went for lunch. Great specials. Hard to choose. Got the cable car- prime rib sandwich and the chopped beef plate. Came with soup. Food was great. Prices were fantastic. Service was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside vibe with the high backed red leather booths. Total 60's.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Loved this place!

The Tartan Room is kind of a hole in the wall restaurant/bar in north Orange. It has been around for a long time and feels a little dated, but it does have a certain charm. I have always sat in a booth in the main dining area, and I was surprised when a large group of family members were coming here to celebrate a birthday. I forgot that they have a separate room near the entrance that is all tables. They rearranged the room into one long table and we had our own private area which was great. The table started off with a few orders of the fried zucchini. It was breaded well and not greasy or oily. I almost always order the prime rib Texas style because this is the only place I've ever been that offers this preparation. It has a little dry rub on it, and is thrown on the grill for a bit. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it is a little twist on standard prime rib. The au jus was good and the horseradish is on the milder side. The veggies seemed fresh and not frozen. It also comes with a good sized house salad. Everybody else also enjoyed their food. I had a glass of the Bonanza by Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon which I would definitely NOT recommend. This must be the cab version of their Meiomi, a big fruit bomb that was barely drinkable. Service was excellent, especially for a large group. Our main server Terry was great, and several other staff members were constantly filling up waters, bringing food, and clearing plates. The food and service have always been good for me, and prices are very reasonable. This is a good casual place to grab a nice steak. Rating 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for the excellent service our large group received on this visit.

I had my eye on this place for a long time because it's one of a few establishments that serve prime rib. The date of my visit was Saturday night 2/21/26 around 6:30pm. When my friend and I pulled up to the place he asked me if it was a dive bar. Because there were no windows and from the outside didn't look like a restaurant but a bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As we walked in we were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. It reminded me of a 80s Las Vegas Lounge[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was an older gentleman providing entertainment by singing motown and oldies. He was actually pretty good we thought the live music brought out the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There were customers on the floor dancing to the music. They seem to be regulars since they acted familiar with each other and the staff. I found the hostess station across the main dining room and was told it would be 45 min to an hour wait for a table for 2. The bartender came around and ask customers waiting for a table if they wanted drinks so we got a couple. It wasn't too long before the older blond hostess let us know a table was ready. During this time both her and the bartender were professional and polite. Once seated we approached by our waitress and were ready to order. My friend got the queen cut 12oz prime rib texas style. salad, bake potato. I got the King cut 16oz prime rib with lobster tail mp which was $80, tomato florentine soup, twice baked potato and veggies. We both requested med rare for our meat. Our sides came out promptly the soup, salad and complimentary bread. Then the main course. The meat was cooked to my liking, twice baked potato was good and veggies excellent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall the food, service, and atmosphere were good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Didn't get dessert this time but maybe next time. Would recommend.

Ask the Community - Tartan Room

How much is the 2-3lbs lobster dinner on Thursdays? Wife and I are looking forward to coming in!

Is this place under new mgmt?

No. Same owners for the past 25 years.

    Do they take reservations?

No. They do not. It's never a long wait, though. And it's worth waiting if you need to.

Any truly gluten free options? No soy sauce or flour used in the sauces and serving utensils are different and not shared so there isn't any transfer?

You should really cook at home - different utensils?

What time does happy hour and food start on Friday's?

HH drink prices at 3, limited HH food at 4 and the full kitchen open at 5.

What time does the live music start and is there a listing as to who will be performing?

Entertainment generally starts at 7pm on Fri and Sat. Maybe earlier if they have some ok ne for Tue or Wed. Live music is typically listed on the thetartanroom.com website under "live music".

What is the evening dress code?

definitely casual. No real dress code to speak of.

Do they serve prime rib all day or only at certain times?

    All day

I noticed its states not kid friendly is this correct?

There is no kids menu and few people bring children. They are allowed in the restaurant and banquet area but not the bar. Well behaved children would do ok here.

    Is it expensive?

Medium price. Dinners are $20 to $30.

The space is BEAUTIFUL, both during the day and at night. When we checked in on Friday evening they even had live music, but unfortunately I was feeling a little sick so I skipped it and told myself I'd redeem the experience the next day before heading to Disneyland. And I'm glad I did. In the daytime, the patio area is gorgeous--you can really appreciate the firepit seating and the little lake with koi fish outside. Such a relaxing vibe. We came by around 4PM to pregame before Disney and the bar was pretty busy. Huge shoutout to Arvey, the bartender who took care of us during our visit. Not only was the service exceptional, but he genuinely made some of the best cocktails we've had in a while. Sitting at the bar and watching him make the drinks was honestly part of the experience itself. At first we were trying to customize and tweak our drinks because we usually stay in our comfort zone, but after talking with him and learning more about the ingredients in The Peel's specialty cocktails, we decided to trust the process a little more. We ordered the Dragonfly and Playing With Fire, and both were amazing--beautiful presentation, really balanced flavors, sweet and sour in the best way. We're usually not big foam cocktail people either, but this visit might've changed our minds a little. Also, Playing With Fire came with a fun little presentation moment which made it even better. Honestly, I was really impressed with my experience here. I even came back for another drink at breakfast before checking out of the hotel lol. The dining area also looked beautiful and the food coming out to other tables looked really good too. Definitely looking forward to coming back anytime I'm around the Anaheim area again.

They always do a great job with decorating when they have a new theme in effect, and the Great Gatsby décor is no exception. The room is filled with lots of gold streamers, hanging gold light fixtures, art deco artwork, Roman columns, etc. Reservations are highly recommended. We checked in at the host stand with Emma who was very friendly. She seated us immediately at the bar as requested. We enjoy talking with the bartenders and watching them make drinks. Ruben was our bartender and he was excellent in all aspects. I started out with Between the Sheets from the Gatsby menu (rum, cognac, orange, lemon, $18). Rum and cognac is a great combo. This cocktail is spirit forward and well balanced. She started out with a Bartender's Reserve (you call the spirit and flavor profile, and the bartender crafts something special for you, $20). She gave parameters of no hard liquors like whiskey or cognac, not sweet, and not refreshing (i.e. no cucumber). Ruben made the most amazing gin based cocktail. Some of the ingredients he mentioned were plum, passion fruit, pineapple, lime, and a bit of chartreuse and soda. It was complex and perfectly balanced, with great flavors. We have been here many times, and he even served it in a unique tiki mug that we've never seen here before. Now it was my turn to put Ruben to the test. I also wanted a Bartender's Reserve, and I told him to use any spirit as long as the drink focuses on banana or apricot flavor. He went to work, and after a short time a beautiful frosted glass was served to me. I forget all of the ingredients he mentioned, but it was rye based with banana liqueur, a small foam top, and fresh shaved cinnamon on top. The banana was perfectly present with the rye at a nice level. This was a home run all the way. Of course, she wanted another magical creation, and Ruben went to work yet once again. She was served a beautiful yellow cocktail, and he even hand cut a little lemon fish garnish. It was mezcal based with yuzu, elderflower, mango, and lime. It was perfectly balanced, the smoke was at the perfect level, and again it had a great mix of flavors. There was some left over, and he even gave that to her in a chilled side bottle with its own baby's breath flower garnish. It's so fun to watch their bartenders create something from scratch, grabbing various bottles, mixing, tasting, adjusting, and then garnishing and serving. In addition to Ruben's delicious creations tonight, Adrian and Sergio have also made us delicious custom crafted cocktails on several occasions. We will definitely be returning soon for some of their new upcoming themes.

I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. With its proximity to Disneyland and its Enchanted Tiki Room, with the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture they found a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, tropical trimmings, and nostalgic know-how. PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE "Hidden" inside Stowaway which was located within a strip mall, the entire theme was based on the Pinocchio story, the interlude in time spent inside Monstro, and as we entered it felt like the beginning of the Disneyland "Storybook" ride as you road a canal boat into the mouth and sharp teet of a whale. There were several marionettes (appropriate and non-appropriate) that hung from the ceiling and belly walls, along with other Disneyesque memorabilia, a few sitting booths, and a tiny bar at the end of the roo. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights and table candles glowed. There were no TVs while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL Belly Of The Beast was an adventurous fun evening with friends, it left me feeling childlike with the need to watch "Pinocchio", and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I generally loved all-things Disneyana, and this new wrinkle, albeit probably not approved by the mouse ears brass, caught my fancy. My one drink was tasty but just didn't hit the right spot, the onion rings were very good, the prices were a tad elevated, the atmosphere was awesome, and the service was friendly and professional. They had an extremely limited menu, and there was some doubt whether or not ordering from the Stowaway menu was an option. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $27.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
