This place seems to use only quality ingredients, as everything always tastes fresh. Order some pita bread, and they'll taste like someone just prepped them before you arrived! The chicken shawarma plate is our favourite order, as it is plenty to feed both my wife and me. It comes with delicious chicken, a small salad, hummus, and pickled vegetables. Everything tastes good! Occasionally, we get the falafel, which is also tasty! The garlic sauce that comes on the entrees here is likely our favourite of all garlic sauces we've tried in other spots. We used to frequent this spot, and I've certainly brought a number of friends and coworkers around to bring joy to all of our bellies. Prices are average, and the service is fast. Although there is only street parking available, you'll likely be able to find parking along Bixby Road or Atlantic Blvd, though I tend to avoid the traffic of Atlantic Blvd. There is plenty of seating within, along with some outside seating if that's your vibe. Ambience is nice, and the place is decorated with Turkish lamps. The food at Taboon does not disappoint! Come through, and support local!

Our server thought he heard my sister order the Lamb Mediterranean Bowl, but she actually ordered the Chicken Mediterranean Bowl. When the lamb bowl arrived, my sister immediately explained that the order was incorrect and that she had requested chicken, not lamb. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, the server argued with us for 5-10 minutes, repeatedly insisting that we had ordered wrong and saying, "You ordered wrong. You cannot returned the plate. The kitchen already cooked it. What is the kitchen going to do with it? Throw it away?" He even suggested that we could buy chicken kabobs separately for $7 ea. At that point, I asked to speak with the manager or owner. The server walked away, then returned, took my sister's plate and brought out the correct chicken plate. Mistakes happen -- we understand that. What was disappointing was the lack of customer service and the arguing instead of simply handling the situation professionally. I have never experienced a server refusing to correct an order and debating with customers over a simple mistake.

A woman by the name of Liza helped us out, letting us know that the food was made fresh so we might need some time, which we were definitely willing to take a chance on. I got the chicken kabob gyro, and my partner got a beef gyro. Both of us were grunting like animals between bites we kept yelling, " oh hell yeah!" Every bite was more delicious than the last. Their house packaged sauce called LebMex, a mix between Lebanese and Mexican I imagine, was just the right amount of heat and the whipped garlic butter that it was served with was out of this world. They also have some rarities in the refrigerator like tick tock famous pineapples soaked in Kool Aid and Warhead Lemonade. There were so many awesome selections on the menu that one could almost be paralyzed by the choices. Once we were done we had to round back to tell Liza how pleased we were and we swore an oath of duty to return as soon as we could to sample more of the delectable menu.

There are so many different kebabs to choose from, and I've yet to have one that wasn't delicious. My personal favorites are the steak and the chicken--both are incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients in every bite. One thing you absolutely cannot skip is the edamame hummus. I had never even heard of edamame hummus before coming here, and now I can't believe I went so long without trying it. It was smooth, fresh, and full of flavor while putting such a unique twist on traditional hummus. It's one of those dishes that completely changes your expectations and has you thinking about it long after you've left the restaurant. On top of the amazing food, the service was outstanding. Everyone made us feel genuinely welcome, and the atmosphere was warm, relaxing, and perfect whether you're grabbing a casual lunch or having dinner with friends or family.
