I tried this restaurant for the first time two days ago. I'm underwhelmed to say the least. I wanted to find a place that has Mediterranean food that was close to me. I usually have to drive a little distance to my favorite place but I decided to give this place try. Well...it was kind of blah. I got the Vegetarian combo with extra rice, Grapes leaves and the Grilled Veggie salad. The grape leaves are usually my favorite but these were cold and tasteless. I ended up warming them up in a bit of vegetable broth to soften them so they were edible. The vegetarian plate was ok. The rice was odd. The first few bites was good but there were clumps of whatever seasoning mix they used to flavor the rice that tasted like pure salt. Not good. I hate to say that I was not pleased with this establishment at all. I ordered the spicy potatoes I added feta cheese to them, they were extremely salty. The portion was very large, you could share that with 4-5 ppl. I ordered a large Greek salad, it wasn't good and I can't explain why, maybe it was the dressing...also salty. Finally I ordered a small hummus which was also large. It didn't taste fresh, it taste more like something I could have bought from the grocery store. Wow this place is amazing. I am a huge fan of Mediterranean food. Thanks to my yelper friend and that's how I end up driving over here cause they know wassup. They offer beef kabob and a chicken kabob, or kafta and chicken or falafel and chicken. For a dollar more at $9.99 shrimp and chicken, shrimp and gyro, and even shrimp and beef. These plates include rice humus and house salad. Great alternate choices. The guy in front is amazing at what he does. He works out your order for you and offers suggestions when you have doubts. Food was delicious and flavorful! I had the salmon and chicken kabobs and my bf had the shrimp they were perfectly cooked and had so much flavor not bland at all. Also had the grape leaf wraps, and these were delicious as well. I am so glad I found this place so close to home, reasonable prices, and open late night. The last 3-4 times I've ordered, the food was definitely cooked once before and reheated, or was sitting out for a while under a heating element of some sort. Haven't gone back in the past month or so after those few bad experiences. The ladies in my family and I like to get together once a month and spend some time catching up over lunch. I wanted to try some place different this time, so headed to my good old friend yelp to find some suggestions and found the green olive. What a great find! My aunt is not a big meat eater so I thought this place would be perfect. Everything is so fresh and seasoned just right. We ended up passing plates around becuase we wanted a taste of everything. You get a good sized portion of food for what you pay. The staff is very friendly and doesn't mind explaining the dishes to help you make your selection. And in the back there is a great hidden lounge if you ever want to rent out the space and have a party. It was a great Sunday afternoon, made even better by the food. read more

Arrived here post Ikea visit. I live in West LA, so driving back 30min with a hungry stomach was an unappealing thought. Knowing that my partner-in-crime was hungry and was in a hookah mood... this place seemed to have been the best choice. Looking in the front of the restaurant, you could spot the "lounge" section - head there - if you want to smoke hookah. Food was excellent. We had the chicken and salmon kabobs - and I have to say the salmon was perfect, and the seasoning and marinade didn't deflect the taste of the natural salmon. The hookah was decent; I'm not an expert on the matter. Requesting the hookah before the meal was a good ideal, since right after you finish your meal - you could just sit back and relax, listen to some music and smoke. What made me a fan of this place was our server, Frank. One could actually mistaken Frank as the owner, since I felt he carried his personality, his attentiveness, his service - as he owned the place. Walking in you are greeted by the workers with friendly smiles who are happy to recommend some restaurant crowd pleasers. The chicken plate (#3) is their number one ordered item and it did not disappoint! It came with rice, pita bread, hummus, salad, and 2 chicken kabobs. If you check in, you get a free drink. And if you frequent it enough, you can redeem freebies with their rewards program. Be sure to check out their dessert display case. I was told there was also belly dancing or hookah or some entertainment through the curtains next door, but only on certain nights (not Thursday). I will definitely have to come back to experience that. Bathrooms ran out of TP but they quickly refilled it when I let them know. The tables were a little sticky as well. Ambiance is ok. After a long search of the perfect gyro wrap, I finally found my spot. The Green Olive consistently delivers the best gyro meat and the biggest portion I've ever seen in my life. The hummus is bomb and the service is always great. I mean, ALWAYS. The gyro wrap comes with a side of either jalapeño potatoes or side salad. I always get the potatoes because duh, potatoes + jalapeños. But I have to dock off a star because I never get the same potatoes. I've gotten them either undercooked, overcooked, greasy, and/or not spicy. But when they give me the perfect batch, it's so so good. I could eat a whole bucket of them. Tangy, spicy, well-seasoned potatoes. I just wish I could get them that way every time. TL;DR: The best mediterranean spot in the south bay. Despite it being 12:30 and everyone is out getting lunch, they weren't overly packed but tables were still filled. I got the chicken plate (comes with chicken skewers, rice, salad, hummus, and some sort of flat bread), which they said was their best seller, and I wasn't impressed. The chicken was flavorful but it was way too salty! The rice was good though, and the salad was fresh. The hummus was good too, and the bread was pretty bland but soft. Overall, I've had better but it isn't the absolute worst. My co-workers and I came here for a Friday lunch, and left pretty satisfied! It's hard to find good quality FRESH food in this area, and it's always a pleasant surprise when we stumble upon a golden find. The Green Olive was pretty busy during their lunch rush hour (12pm - 1pm), but service was very efficient. We came in, stood in line for a hot minute, and then barely sat down by the time our food was ready. SUHWEEET. It's also very clean in here, which is always a major plus. Their is a giant menu that shows pictures of every possible combination your can order. The pictures aren't exactly HD quality, but it works. I ordered the Vegetarian platter that included a parsley/cilantro salad, tahini dip, hummus, pita bread, stuffed grape leaves, and falafel. It was a LOT of food, for about 8 bucks. We walked in and stood looking at the menu for 5 full minutes before the chef finally came out and started to take our order. The entire process of ordering two meals and a drink took forever. The chef was involved, then the (I assume) owner got involved. They couldn't seem to get the order down between the two of them and then I was given $5 change a $20 bill when my total was just $5 and change. Uh duh, really? I had to do the math for the guy to get the correct amount back. When the food came it was overcooked rice a roni, store bought pita and bland hummus. The shrimp was succulent but flavorless, the chicken was nicely seasoned but not so special. One of my favorite lunch destinations when I'm working. This place is in a food court plaza right off the Wilmington exit on 91. Good restaurant for lunch b/c its affordable, quick, and the food is good. I typically get the #7 lunch special but occasionally i'll switch over to the vegetarian plate if I feel like I need to eat healthier :) I haven't tried it yet but they also apparently do Hookah here if you want to give that a shot as well.
