The George is the place to bring your stupid party of 25 people. Why did you even come to a restaurant with 25 people expecting to be seated? Well, wait a while and a table (or 4) will probably open for you and your whole silly family. In point of fact, my gustatory experience at The George fell far short of remarkable. The Bowl of Fries were less than a bowl. The french onion soup was good but not great. However, all of that was dwarfed by the busy bar vibes combined with the fact that we scored a cozy, extremely wide corner booth minutes after walking in despite the place being packed. This is clearly an old favorite for many! It's a little hard to find at first (it's in the basement of what appears to be - as of June 2023 - a condo building undergoing a serious rehab). Extremely hostile staff. I visited The George with a group of friends on a trip to Vail recently and we went for the 3-5pm happy hour. We showed up at 4:45 hoping to get just one drink. We tried ordering at the bar but the bartenders told us to get a table and order with our server. Our server showed up at 5:01 and told us we could not order from the happy hour menu, and that we should have ordered from the bar instead. The staff was unnecessarily rude and told us confusing, contradictory information until we missed happy hour. Based on the rest of the population at the bar, the staff's attitude seemed racially charged. Would not recommend. read more

It's good bar pub kind of place. You can pick your seat basically. Our server was really good. I thought the fries would be thinner and the meal a little fresher. It was a scolding hot plate as if it might of been sitting for a long time. My husband really liked his duck and mushroom quesadilla. Hidden gem in Vail! My husband and I came to Vail on a weekend getaway for his birthday. Unfortunately, when we booked we didn't know that it was off season :/ finding places to eat and things to do was a little hard, but we still lucked out finding places to eat. We had just got into Vail and checked into our hotel and were starving. We heard everyone mention this place, so we decided to give them a try. We decided to order some appetizers and some drinks. For our appetizers we ordered the chicken wings, loaded fries and the nachos. The appetizers are big ! You could probably share with 3-4 people and be full. Everything was great and we were big fans of the chicken wings! They were flavored and good texture - mhmm perfection! We had a great time here and the bartenders were great! We needed up sitting at the bar toe at and drink. If you are looking for a nice casual spot, this is the place to go ! You won't be disappointed. read more

We were so stoked to try The George's great menu, especially their spirited hot chocolates on St Patties Day! But after being squeezed into a booth that wasn't cleaned yet, waiting another 10 minutes for it to be cleaned and to get water, then waiting another 15 minutes without meeting a server, we decided to leave. The restaurant was completely crowded, standing room only by the bar. Quite a few people bumped into me as we left because it was so crowded. With signs all over Vail saying that restaurants are at limited capacity, this didn't inspire very much confidence in us. Bummer! This place is a great place to get a drink in vail village. The food is good, but very much so bar food. We ordered a few things to share (pictured) which were all amazing (bacon fries, cheesesteak, and quesadilla) but the bacon fries were honestly a must. The best part about this place was the prices. Just given how expensive everything is in Vail, this was a great spot to get a quick, well priced meal. Definitely not one of your swanky vail type places which was refreshing. read more

The George is located inside Vail's Mountain Haus. Simply go down the stairs, down the hall and on the right, you will walk into a bar that serves good food at good prices (for vail, that is) They are currently observing COVID-19 guidelines so only a few people at a time are allowed. Passed the bar, they have booths along three of the four walls, and sofas in the middle. The decor is unique. It features a lot of photos from celebrities and other assorted folk as well as big pieces of contemporary art I would call it. We ordered a French onion soup to start and it had flavor, just not quite the flavor we were expecting but that's only because we make it at home. We didn't finish the soup because we used it as an au-jus for the delicious philly cheese steak sandwiches we also ordered. The French onion soup made the philly cheese steaks even better! Try it out!! The menu feature a lot of items so you could have what they call pub grubs or entrees such as filet mignon, king crab legs, and surf and turf. I saw the king crab legs plate go by and it looked really good. And from what we've read, they are known for this. The service was friendly and attentive too. We will definitely be back on our annual trip to Vail. read more

People often say Vail is a town of stuck up individuals. That may be so, but I didn't run in to any during my night at The George. I visited during the Scandemic so masks were required upon entry but bar seating was allowed. The bar staff were friendly. The happy hour is stupid cheap, $5 you-call-it until 10PM. The venue is massive with a separate game room. I was feeling pretty famished so went for their mushroom and duck quesadilla. Stupid good. For $12.5 in Vail, CO this is a steal. Great staff, great company, great bar. Do yourself a favor and get down here. You definitely won't regret it. read more

Perfect dive bar to chill at with lounge seating, booths, bar, etc. The happy hour is legit and I recommend the bowl of fries as a late night snack. It's a causal setting in the basement but can get packed. The staff is extremely attentive and consistently checks in and stays up on getting you drinks. read more

It's a little hard to get a seat here but it's a great experience apres. Their nachos are amazing and the atmosphere is A+. It's definitely 21+ so don't forget your ID and it's more on the dive side (for Vail). It can get a little crowded but the bartenders and waiters are awesome. Give them an extra big tip! read more

Always a good time at The George. This was a surprisingly quiet week in Vail which made it easy for 9 of us to get one of the couch seating areas. Came for happy hour & stayed for dinner. Everyone liked their food which ranged from a Filet to the Philly chicken cheesesteak to chili and tots (which turned out to be sweet potato tots...and resulted in food trading at the table, some liked them & some didn't). I WISH I could give this place more than five stars. We ate at La Tour, Sweet Basil, etc. but the George was hands down the favorite of the trip. The vibes are immaculate and the food is even better. I was very concerned about ordering king crab from a dive bar but it was excellent. I've had a lot of crab in my days, seafood is my favorite and the crab at the George was some of the best I've ever had. The duck quesadilla was to die for. What a unique combination of flavors. Definitely wasn't something I ever thought of ordering before or have seen on any other menu but it just works. The duck quesadilla is highly recommended. Finally, my all time favorite item from the George was the vodka Red Bull slushees. Omg - those things are amazing. Dangerous, but amazing. They taste so good I wanted to keep drinking more but they are powerful little things. If you are in the Vail area, the George is a must. Stopped by for drinks and some food last night after a long day on the mountain. The hostess sat us (party of 8) right away in a corner table. We had the best server, Matt. He was attentive all evening. He took our drink order right away and was back with our drinks quickly. He was helpful with our menu questions and made a few suggestions as well. Everyone was happy with their selections. Several had the fish and chips! I had wings with the dry rub and the Buffalo fries... yum! The hamburgers were cooked to perfection and the bacon cheese fries were delicious! My son had the duck and he said it was cooked perfectly very crunchy skin and moist meat on the inside! Again our server returned often to refill drink orders and bring water to the table. I also appreciated they seemed to use a team system so our plates were cleared as we finished our meal and glasses were removed as fresh drinks appeared. I highly recommend The George.
