The food served at First Post is nothing exceptional. I have had a much better sandwich at Jimmy Johns. The Freaky Fast people certainly does better in the bread department. The bread holding my turkey gouda together crumbled and seemed at least a day or more old. I said nothing because I was there celebrating someones birthday. There was eight in our group and no one seemed outwardly disappointed with their food. One thing was exceptional and another very good. Our visit was on a Sunday afternoon. I was expecting it to be busy but pleasantly surprised it wasn't overly busy. I had ordered The new England seafood roll. It was excellent. The wait staff was very attentive and very suggestive on their beer purchases as I said no to a second beer I got one anyway. Everybody else's food at our table was also excellent. I really like First Post. It literally took years to craft the restaurant and the woodwork & furnishings show it. Most of the time I prefer to eat at the bar. Why? In order to be a Bartender at a good establishment you have to be able to multi task, serve good drinks, and be knowledgeable about everything. The bartenders at First Post are superb. My favorite is Keith who has a knack for remembering your name and what you like to drink even if you are only an occasional diner. Try the Saturday brunch menu. What a great experience! We went for our 25th anniversary and had a great time. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The food was outstanding. We ended up both ordering the exact same meal: sirloin and crab cake. While the up charge to substitute asparagus for green beans was a bit more than I thought it needed to be, the quality of food was excellent. Love this place, even my 8 and 10 year olds love this place. Everything we've tried on the menu has been fantastic. Hatred octopus, scotch eggs, omelets at brunch, specialty drinks. Sat at the bar and ordered a great local brew along with the Lobster Rangoon's as a starter and luckily the lunch special (still available) grilled romaine lettuce with flank steak salad. The Rangoon's were great, especially the sauce that accompanied them. As for the salad, it was one of the best I have ever eaten!!! Caramelized onions, blue cheese, roasted peppers and a perfectly cooked (medium rare) flank steak. The balsamic vinaigrette was on point!!! read more

The steak was very tough, and too fatty to cut through. I ordered a Margarita that was in a tall glass, and all I could taste was the powdered mix they must have used! At an upscale restaurant I'd at least expect a real mixed drink. Very disappointed. read more

Great dining experience - had the scallop entree - perfectly cooked and the risotto was creamy and awesome - and the sauces - yum. Service was spot on. My husband and I had dinner here last night. Excellent! The food was perfectly prepared and the service was on point. It was busy at 7pm on Friday evening but nothing was lacking. Good shit! Take a moment to walk around, this place has history and it's on their walls. The food was delish and left my tummy full. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts! My dad had the lobster roll and couldn't stop talking about it. Great portions and you pay for what you get. Our servers were awesome and they even thanked us for being awesome. Lamb meatballs with tzatziki and pita for an appetizer, baked crab cakes with Old Bay buttered mashed potatoes for dinner. All crab, almost no filler. Rustic chicken was also excellent. The First Post is definitely much better than the Roadhouse it replaced. Inside it's upscale and clean. However, all the hard surfaces make it noisy and hard to have a conversation. There is a nice but small selection of craft beer. The appetizer choices are outstanding and a highlight. Our creme brûlée that we had for dessert was one of the best I've tasted. read more

I moved away from York about 6 years ago, so when I got back and saw this place, I knew I had to try it. Beautiful building on the inside and out. Great atmosphere, so it got my attention up front. For food we got the Cream of crab, fish and chips, pork chop, fried goat cheese, and a first post lager Lancaster brew. Everything was amazing, but I have to say the cream of crab was the highlight for me. As others have stated, the prices are higher, but the quality and atmosphere explain why. Worth every penny. First time here and I am very impressed. Started off with the guacamole that was made to order and was some of the best I've had. Ordered fish and chips and was hand breaded not frozen and was wonderful. My wife had the steak salad and was perfection. The blue cheese is made there and was excellent. Only thing was the fries were not hot but not a big deal. Can't wait to come back here for dinner in the new few days. Def try this place out.
