Nice restaurant in York County with an interesting menu and a variety of seating, all of which are comfortable. Had a dish with chicken and pasta that was very nice. My wife had the fish and chips. Food was good and plentiful. Service was very good, ate with some old friends, there was no rush, they gave us plenty of space. The menu is varied, specials are not typical fare, but also do not become science projects like so many "creations" do. The food is left to speak for itself. Affordable. My friends and I met at the restaurant on a Tuesday for lunch. This time we were seated by the side overlooking the parking lot. It was so much brighter from the last time I was here with my husband. We were seated inside near the fireplace so the ambiance was darker. I felt I couldn't see my food! I ordered the steak frites. The steak was tender juicy cooked just right. It had a delicious mushroom sauce and the fries were crispy and well seasoned.I loved the salad greens that come with this dish. Came across this place while house hunting and omg - found the perfect French onion soup! It was so delicious! My daughter ordered the vegetarian pasta, my son ordered the fish and chips, my husband ordered the NY strip and he's still talking about it haha I ordered the crab cakes and they were perfect! Made a reservation for here on a Sunday night and it was quite busy! Server was this really nice guy and checked in with us a lot during the meal (maybe even too much?). I ordered the salmon, which I found to be just okay. I swapped out the mashed potatoes for the duck fat potatoes, but found them to be quite bland. Their scallop app is amazing it does change seasonally but you get 3 large scallops for about have the price of the entree and it's my favorite dish. They are always perfectly prepared so delicious if I could lick the plate I would but i don't because I am sure I would get some strange looks. It was my 1st time in trying the crème brûlée and I have to admit I am a little of a snob when it comes to critiquing it. It was okay yes just okay not the best but not the worst either. I would recommend buying a more swallow dish and serving it in there the reason why is because you would have about equal ratio from the caramelized sugar to the actual brûlée itself. We always enjoy a good bar sit. I wish I wish they had a nice rectangular bar for a more intimate setting but the amazing hardwood and high ceilings make this place so attractive. The octopus was delicious! I also had a cream of crab cup. Not bad. I had the Tuna Poke and Lori had the Seared Tuna. Both Starter dishes were excellent. The Rusty Rail Nice West Coast IPA was excellent. I had a Buffalo Trace Old Fashion to finish, really good (no Luxardo cherry?) We like going here, it is an alternate to our usual but we see increased frequency happening based on their excellent menu! Good to see server Chris, who we know from another haunt. Stopped in for lunch after a long day of traveling. Large place with seating throughout. Friendly staff. Good selection for lunch items and went with the Filet Sandwich with a Garlic Aioli and 3 different cheeses with chips or can upgrade to fries for $2 and a bowl of the Cream of Crab soup served with store bought crackers. The Filet lacked seasoning and was overcooked - requested medium and was served medium well. The Garlic Aioli was over powering and the fries had nice seasoning. Food was served hot which is always a plus. The Cream of Crab soup was very tasty. Great flavor and very creamy not too thick either this is worth ordering again. Yep, we're back. This place is so nice. The service is great, didn't wait long at all on a busy Saturday night. I had the Bee Sting drink, has a nice bite to it. For dinner I had the Korean short ribs served with broccolini and kimchi rice. My husband had the Hibachi steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Both dishes were delicious. My first dinning experience in York, Pennsylvania. Very elegant place so my blue collar headed for the bar top. The First Post has a pretty competitive list of draft beer in addition to full bar. This us a little upscale but certainly open to the casual crowd. Everything that I have tried there has been very good from the Scotch eggs to the shrimp tacos to the sirloin and crab cake. It's just hard to go wrong here. It's a little pricey but definitely good quality and beautiful presentation. read more

Beautiful ornate historic building, Great food! On an overnight trip into York a few weeks ago, we found this amazing place a couple miles east of I-83. It seems like an unlikely location, out Market Street in front of of the Stoneybrook Shopping Center. It's a rather majestic-looking building on the northeast corner of a busy intersection. Plenty of parking, a drop-off spot off the street, and a parking shuttle if you want. You walk into an ornate interior, wood paneling, tin ceilings, a beautiful bar area overseen by balcony seating. It was pretty busy at 4pm on a Friday, and there were around a dozen people waiting, most of whom had reservations! Even so, the two of us were seated quickly in a pretty but less-ornate corner where we were perfectly comfortable. Our friendly waiter arrived instantly with fresh hot flakey biscuits, quite delicious. Among many intriguing appetizers, we had to try their pierogis, we are always looking for tasty ones, and these are amazingly flavored and tender! They are lightly seared but not crispy, filled with local potatoes, artistically piled high with generous amounts of sweet crunchy bacon pieces, just-soft-enough caramelized onions, bright baby dandelion greens, and slightly-spicy sriracha sour cream. We would come here just for these! The specials sounded amazing, from seafood and lobster to steaks, but we were set on a lighter meal of sandwiches, and we were rewarded well. We got the $15 seared tuna sandwich and the $17 steak sandwich, and wow! They use a lovely soft fresh artisan ciabatta roll, and they are masters of flavors. The tuna was seared-to-order juicy tender medium, lightly seasoned with sesame and black pepper, dressed with arugula and red onion, roasted tomatoes and a sweet "caesar" soy sauce. The steak wasnt some sliced Philly wannabe, it was as-requested medium-cooked tender quarter-inch sirloin tips, deeply marinated with something lightly salty and lightly spicy, topped with generous caramelized onions and just-slightly-crunchy "sweet"-peppers, with a little bright bite from "hot pepper" mayo. I skipped the offered provolone because I'm OG-Chicago, and the highest compliment is that these are the ciabatta-ed next best thing to a genuine "The Bear" (sliced) Italian beef! Very well flavored, very tender. Heavenly! By the way, fries are piping hot and are "real", not "coated". Chips are perfect thickness, crunchy, and medium-salty. When i was looking for a dinner place, i saw this reviewed as a "public house", I thought a pub of sorts. This is so much more. It's an oasis of high-rustic decor, warm professional staff, and innovative-ly flavored, attractively presented, traditional fare. Perfect with good friends and family, or just for feeling good of an evening. We'll return, with reservations for the bar or balcony :-) read more

It was the weekend before Halloween and they had a Halloween pasta that was delicious! It was a vodka sauce over sautéed shrimp and squid in and pumpkin pasta. The portion was generous, so I didn't finish the entire serving. Then I had a crème brûlée topped with blueberries, strawberries and a chocolate wafer stick. No complaints about the service. Diane was amazing. She joked with the crew of 15 ppl we had and was on cue with drinks and our dining needs. Right down to accommodating my friend's mom who is 91 years old. The atmosphere was warm with a casual dressy vibe. The place was large but cozy. Inviting. It was a wonderful dining experience and If look to go back there again if I am in the York PA area. A coworker and I were in York for a work commitment but wanted to grab lunch first. The First Post popped up in my Google search so we set off. Plenty of parking, a little babbling creek and a nicely done exterior made me look forward to heading in. We were greeted and seated quickly. Inside is very cool. The bar looked inviting - but work would not allow - so off we went to our table. Our server was friendly and prompt. What a great restaurant! I had a peach sour to start - if you like bourbon and sweet, this is the drink for you. My parents and I got the crab dip to start. Only after we ordered the dip did they tell me how big the portions were. They were not wrong. The crab dip was immense, so delicious, and totally worth getting. It came with a side of seasoned tortilla chips, and for once there were enough chips for all of the dip. You know how that never happens! For our entrées, my mom got the chicken orecchiette, my dad got the meatloaf, and I ordered the shrimp salad. Did I mention the portions? Each plate came out looking like it was going to feed three people. But on top of being ginormous, the food was also really good. I'm kind of sad they've never taken me to The First Post before. My shrimp salad was delicious, with the freshest corn I think I've ever had. It was loaded, not just with corn but with tomatoes, bacon and avocados. Really excellent. My dad's meatloaf was gigantic and so so good. Plus, his mashed potatoes were to die for. It felt like there was a pound of butter in them. My pasta was so great. She said she gets it every time she goes there and now I know why. The mix of the pasta, the cream sauce and all the other bits was truly very good. It also came with a Caesar salad that was basically entrée sized and had a fantastic dressing. Last, but not least, I should mention that our server was really excellent. He was there when we needed him, he explained things well, but he wasn't overly intrusive. Don't let the little parking lot around the building fool u there is a small bridge that cross over to more parking! When you walk in you get like a pub feeling. The hostess great you and seat you. Our waitress had some recommendation so I went with one of them. The pork chop for the main course. We had the scotch eggs for an appetizer. Has to be the best scotch eggs I've had ever. We got here 40 minutes before closing, but didn't feel rushed and service was great. Ordered cream of crab soup, fish & chips, scallops appetizer, and crème brûlée. The stars were the rolls, fish & dessert. The rolls are hearty and crusty, delicious with butter, the fried fish was as big as the dinner plate and crunchy but not greasy, and the brûlée was the perfect custard consistency with a lovely browned sugar top. The scallop appetizer was good, but I probably wouldn't order it again. It is heavy on tomato & feta and doesn't let the scallops shine through. It would better served over pasta in my opinion. Underwhelming. Went for a birthday/NYE lunch . Place was busy not packed. Several in our party were told various times that there was a reservation behind us at 3:45. Our reservation was at 1:30. It made it seem like our reservation didn't matter and the next one was more important. So that was rude. We all ordered burgers/sandwiches so I can only rate off this. Apparently the crab cakes and burgers were good. I got the short rib grilled cheese. Flavorless and gave me heartburn. Saved room for dessert and ordered the sticky toffee pudding. Once again we found ourselves hungry and wondering what to do for dinner. We slept in today so hadn't had brekkies or lunch. Being a very lazy day we didn't want to go far so my friend recommended First Post. When we got there I was charmed by the building. It is in a historic building in Hallam Township. There is ample handicap parking along the restaurant but the rest of us have to schlep down a hill & over a dale to park. We were seated in a sunny room with a view of said parking lot. It was a little warm but nice. We both ordered soup to start. My friend had the cream of crab and I stuck with French Onion. After yesterday's bland soup I was hoping for a redemption here. Boy they did NOT let me down. It was heavenly. So good that I was very full after finishing! My friend enjoyed the crab but was a little disappointed that there wasn't a strong seasoning, they just topped the bowl with Old Bay, didn't seem to cook the soup with it. Still, our next up was the chicken gruyere cheese and mushrooms and caramelized onions. Wow. We were busy th struggling to finish but it was very tasty.
