I will start with - we have dined here at least a half dozen times and realized i never reviewed. This is one of the best restaurants in the York area we have been to. They are a class act! Every staff member we have interacted with have all been professional & friendly. The restaurant has warm inviting decor & we love the bar area. Lots of great choices on the menu & wonderful daily specials. We love this restaurant so much that we hosted a baby shower may of 2026 in one of their upstairs private rooms. The event planner was great to work. She had wonderful suggestions on menu & set up. We chose a brunch buffet & added some of their appetizers & fresh fruit. Decided on First Post for standing Friday night dinner with Bestie. This is a site of the former Roadhouse restaurant, if you know you know.... We made reservations as we know it gets rather busy. Reservations are highly suggested for Friday / Saturday nights. Large parking area outback the whole is packed full, which is generally a good sign in a restaurant. We arrived and we're promptly seated and our waiter arrived to take our drink order shortly thereafter. I had a desert bloom and Bestie had a sangria, rum punch concoction. Desert bloom was delicious. Nice change for a margarita. For apps, I had the French onion soup, which was absolutely delicious perfectly caramelized, onions, nice baguette plenty of cheese. Topped with a crispy onion broth was flavorful. She had the burrata which was a meal in it of itself came in a large salad plate with dressed leaves and strawberries, and a side of crusty bread. For means I got the cioppino and she had the angel hair with shrimp. The cioppino came with a wonderful large slice of grilled bread with an Uni butter, which was absolutely delicious. The broth of that stew was absolutely AMAZING. So rich and flavorful I could've died on that alone. It was full of seafood..... crab, claws, shrimp mussels, fish it was more than enough for two meals. Crab claws were great. The one thing I didn't like. I expected crab claws, and even muscles in the shell. But the tails on the shrimp is frustrating for me, in any dish like that, but I survived lol. Bestie was smarter than me and asked if the shrimp and her dish came with tails on, they did. She then asked if they would remove the tails which the waiter said yes they would so she requested and they obliged. Even though we were stuffed, we want to try some dessert. She had the dark side of the moon cake, and I had the Greek Panna cotta. Both were absolutely delicious. The cake was rich chocolatey just everything you would expect from an overindulge dessert. The Panna cotta was absolutely the perfect ending to the meal. It was covered with a sour cherries and small almond cookies - wonderful, flavor profile - worked so well together. Service was friendly. Price point was amazing. My meal with a drink before tip was $58. For the quality and amount of food I had and considering the giant bowl of seafood stew it was a great value. First post is on our regular rotation for Friday night dinners I haven't tried their brunch. But if you haven't tried The First Post and are looking for something not necessarily upscale, but also not of the Chili's Applebee's vein, consider giving them a try out in East York. read more

Visiting my hometown and decided I wanted to stop to have a few of my favorites, the scotch eggs and crab dip. Because I was alone, I decided to eat and have a glass of wine at the bar. The bartenders were completely rude, not even acknowledging or checking in on me, asking how my food was, offering to box up leftovers, nothing! We found this restaurant on a Google search & I'm sooooo glad that we did! First of all the decor of the restaurant is old with a lot of charm! The was DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this place! My friends and I met at the restaurant on a Tuesday for lunch. This time we were seated by the side overlooking the parking lot. It was so much brighter from the last time I was here with my husband. We were seated inside near the fireplace so the ambiance was darker. I felt I couldn't see my food! I ordered the steak frites. The steak was tender juicy cooked just right. It had a delicious mushroom sauce and the fries were crispy and well seasoned.I loved the salad greens that come with this dish. First Post is our go-to restaurant for celebrations, visiting family occasions and great dining. Daughter and bonus daughter were visiting and of course, Sunday lunch was at First Post. DH had the fish and chips, always delish and a hearty serving. He hadn't had it for a while ( and I'm not frying anything at home and having to clean up splattered grease) so it was a treat. There was so much! We all tasted it and there was still some for lunch the next day. Daughter got stuffed trout. It was really good with a crab and bread stuffing, yummy mashed potatoes, and broccoli raab, which she asked to be subbed in instead of the asparagus. Bonus daughter got the sausage and shrimp pasta. Good tasting, she said, and the sausage and sauce sample I had made me agree. I ordered my favorite, chicken orrichette. It's juicy pieces of sautéed chicken, melty pieces of mozzarella with a creamy sauce. Today was less than stellar. The orrichette pasta all seemed glommed together. The chicken was still great but there were very few pieces of mozzarella cheese. And the sauce was almost non existent. And it looked not steamy hot , rather like it had been sitting and waiting for a while. It wasn't as tasty as usual, probably due to a much lesser amount of sauce. Therefore I have knocked my usual 5 stars down to 4. If I were reviewing only my dish I'd probably say 3. I was disappointed for sure. Maybe a new chef? Maybe it did sit too long? Whatever,my gut was to send it back but I didn't want to make a scene. We will go back and I hope my favorite dish will be my favorite once again. read more

Nice restaurant in York County with an interesting menu and a variety of seating, all of which are comfortable. Had a dish with chicken and pasta that was very nice. My wife had the fish and chips. Food was good and plentiful. Service was very good, ate with some old friends, there was no rush, they gave us plenty of space. The menu is varied, specials are not typical fare, but also do not become science projects like so many "creations" do. The food is left to speak for itself. Affordable. Two small criticisms, can be loud in certain areas. They are very accommodating in moving you. The parking lot. Walking over the bridge can be an issue with cars. Worth the trip. read more

We dined in this restaurant many times and always were very satisfied with everything. Recently I've notest that Lunch entrees portions were minimalized (compare with what they offered before) and the taste (as well as the the portion size) of Caesar salad went down. Also the Burrata appetizer was not that great speaking about the quality of burrata and combination of other ingredients as before. I liked burrata with tomatoes and other veggies version much better. Current version is so heavy in fat and sweetness without any acidity component that it's not very appealing in point of taste. Otherwise I liked my experience in service, ambiance and value and still give them my 5** in hope that they could restore the taste of mentioned dishes, still be the best restaurant in York. read more

We always enjoy a good bar sit. I wish I wish they had a nice rectangular bar for a more intimate setting but the amazing hardwood and high ceilings make this place so attractive. The Rusty Rail Nice West Coast IPA was excellent. I had a Buffalo Trace Old Fashion to finish, really good (no Luxardo cherry?) Good selection for lunch items and went with the Filet Sandwich with a Garlic Aioli and 3 different cheeses with chips or can upgrade to fries for $2 and a bowl of the Cream of Crab soup served with store bought crackers. The Filet lacked seasoning and was overcooked - requested medium and was served medium well. The Garlic Aioli was over powering and the fries had nice seasoning. Food was served hot which is always a plus. The Cream of Crab soup was very tasty. Great flavor and very creamy not too thick either this is worth ordering again. Since moving to PA, the food has been bland with our dining adventures. This place was eyeopening great! We started out with the Brussel Sprout appetizer and I wanted to try the Scotch Eggs. My wife is not an adventurous eater and she told me after I ordered the eggs that she wasn't going to try them. I explained to her that they were a British delicacy and were like the fried version of a deviled egg... of sorts. She reluctantly tried a small piece and absolutely loved it! It was delicious with the crisp outer and the sauce it came with was brilliant. My wife had the lobster roll and I had the fish & chips. The portions of both entrees were huge. With the fish and chips alone, we could have split it and still would have taken a lot of it home. The food was delicious. We will return for the more extensive dinner menu. There is plenty of parking here and I loved that. The vibe was very rustic like a British pub. The last thing, we were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant well air conditioned.
