We moved to Glendale about a year ago, and quickly realized that it was perfectly in between the suburbs and city life. The Famous has been our go to bar when we want to go out with friends and have a great / crazy night. It's open late enough where we've never shut down the bar. They have booth seating around the perimeter. It's usually pretty easy to find a place to sit. We just went there last Saturday night and had no issue finding seating space for a party of eight. The drinks are good. And strong. Sometimes they are too strong lol!! But no complaints here. read more

I used to really like The Famous. Then I came here on a Friday night... It seems to attract the basest human beings possible on the weekend. It's loud, crowded, the clientele are despicable excuses for human beings (rude, loud, aggressive, and disrespectful - one man unsolicitedly told me "women are disposable"). Plus the prices (if you're not here for happy hour) are high, and the single-stall bathroom becomes a grotesque hookup zone as the night wears on. If I return, it most certainly will not be on the weekend. And the possibility is very low. read more

Once you step in this place, you wont feel like you're in Glendale (a city with limited late night bar options). It's got a very classy and unique design combined with well known bartenders which are capable making some amazing drinks. Really nice spot right across from the Americana. I sometimes find it difficult to find cool hip bars outside of LA, but this is definitely one of them. It's a spacious bar with great ambience and music. They also play movies on projector screens throughout the room which was pretty cool. Try to come on a weekday since it gets super busy with its location. You don't need to park at the Americana. There's a lot around the corner on Harvard for 90 min free. I tried most of the drinks on the signature cocktail list. They're all sooo tasty.. Try the famous, ivy rose, or jack rose for something a bit stronger. my favorite was the jack rose which is their cocktail of the month. The bartenders are super friendly and quite skilled... Mine forgot a couple of my drink orders, but they were quick so no big deal. only qualm about this place is that they don't have any good deals or specials. Their happy hour is daily until 8pm, which only gives you 2 dollars off already very pricey cocktails. We're talking 12-14 per beverage. I also found it odd that they try to promote different themes/events each night (eg whiskey Wednesday) without giving any specials for them at all. I came on a Wednesday and asked, so what do you give for whiskey wed?? they said, nothing, we just encourage you to drink whiskey on Wednesdays. Right. So basically just ignore those daily events when it comes to picking drinks. I recommend this place to relax and taste a few high quality cocktails. Not the most economical choice for late night splurging because your wallet will take a hit.. I encourage you to check it out nonetheless. read more

I am in love with this bar. Walked here from Tavern on Brand up the street not expecting much because of its awkward location on Brand. Boy was I wrong! The spread is super beautiful inside. I really appreciate how this bar has paid homage to the history of Glendale and there are neat black and white photos of the city back in the day on the walls. When I came on a Friday night there was a movie playing on on the walls which reminded me of my old watering hole The York. The bar itself is huge and has a lot to offer. It reminds me a lot of Villains Tavern but better because it's not cramped and the bartenders are actually pleasant :) I ordered some fancy mixology drink w/tequila and even though it was tasty, it was too strong for a grandma like myself. I saw a piano in the back corner of the bar so I'm pretty sure there's some live entertainment at some point going on in here. The lounge area includes comfy plush cushions that line one side of the whole bar. They have little block seats to accommodate groups around the seating areas as well. There's also a great mixture of people coming in and out of this place so it's perfect to relax, drink, watch a movie/entertainment or just people watch. One night I had dinner in the outdoor patio of Granville and was attracted to come here thinking there was an upstairs outdoor bar on the top floor...there isn't. But hey! There is a lot this place has to offer!! Allow the bar tender to make a drink of your liking. I found the bartender to be extremely friendly and helpful in choosing a drink you want. There are many selections so it is inclusive for everyone. I got wine even though it isn't listed. They have a wide selection of whiskey. It seems they change their beer list often. With a lot of accommodating seats to lounge, drink options, and a high ceiling, this would be my choice of place to have a reunion or catch up session, lol. SISTER'S POINT OF VIEW~ Dive into your classic bar of comfy seats, flatscreen tvs, and good ok' rock n roll. Friendly staff, nice ambience for groups, and to top it off, there's nice decor for this Christmas season. Keep them coming with the Famous's whiskey and be sure to try their food during happy hour. It was a pleasure meeting a bartender named Suzy! She was very friendly and made drinks that were bomb af! It was my friend's bachelorette party and she took good care of us. This was a really weird experience. We had a great time. Then we met a group of men that seemed to disagree with the fact that we didn't have an equal attraction. I went to the bathroom. When I came out my friend told me we had a problem. Then the bouncer escorted me outside and kept telling me we had a problem that wouldn't be a problem unless I escalated the situation. I was SO CONFUSED. He kept telling me I was on camera. I kept asking "Doing what sir??" Never in my life have I been kicked out of a bar. I am a reasonable person but I felt like a loser and a criminal and I will never forget how hurtful this experience was. EDIT: next day and now I remember - a man said something rude to me and I didn't hear him and my friend did so she stepped in front of me to block me and she addressed him. Came here with my husband and some friends early in the evening. We saw that they had a promo on yelp for one free shot with check in. We were planning to get the shot and stay for a couple of drinks since it seemed like a nice place to hang out. My friends first asked for the shot and got the biggest attitude from the bartender even after they ordered cocktails afterwards. I asked for a menu and the bartender literally rolled his eyes at me. When I asked for a cocktail, he responded that it wasn't included in the free promo. No shit. I don't know if he was being a jerk because we were getting free shots or if he's just an awful person, but don't offer the promo if you're going to be rude to customers..even after they order overpriced cocktails and food. This place is a hands-down, a must visit bar for any whiskey and cocktail lover. They have a huge selection of scotch, bourbon and Japanese whiskey )(even some amazing tequila). All of which are top-notch. Within their historic establishment, they charge a very fair price for hard to find bottles (a bourbon hunter's dream). To supplement the amazing selection, the knowledgeable bartender knew exactly what to suggest and was specific enough to ask for my choice in glassware (a trustee Glencairn tasting glass). I came here with a friend for happy hour on a weeknight and it was pretty sparse. The space itself is large, with lots of screens to watch games if needed. We checked in on Yelp for 50% off a cocktail, and our bartender applied it on top of Happy Hour prices, so for 2 of us, it was only eight dollars! They have a good selection of drinks, we got some house gin cocktails and they were decent. Nothing amazing, but a good spot for a drink in Glendale. There is parking structure in the back that gives free parking for 90 minutes. read more

10/10 for the bartenders. 0/10 for the "updated" Famous. I would have given this bar ten stars if I could have. I would have, at least until the new ownership/management. I've been coming for YEARS, like literally since I turned 21. This place was a fantastic place to come get fun, curated drinks by a group of friendly bartenders. There was fun music playing, and usually an ironic movie playing on Netflix on the screens. Now? Most frustrating of all is the feeling that everything is shifting into something outside of the realm it used to hold, something beyond comfort. Can't we have one nice thing? Was this my fault? Should I have written a review before all this? Should I have preemptively struck before this disaster? Perhaps. Glendale and the surrounding areas have enough sports bars with douchey men and sub par drinks. Honestly, there's a Buffalo Wild Wings just up the street. Some of the original waiters are there but the new ones are not attentive, disregard people waiting to order and, within the last two experiences, didn't even know how to make a drink. How do you not know how to make a Manhattan? Instead, bartender brought an Old Fashioned and asked if it was okay. I guess - if we ordered an Old Fashioned it would be okay. It isn't that different to make Bartender should have either asked another or google it. Wow. Ordered the house Drink the FAMOUS - as I was discussing drinks with the bartender and what I wanted - which I've ordered for almost a year since I started going there. What came to the table was The Famous Hamburger. So we got a Hamburger and something close to a drink we ordered. I wrote a 1 star review the other day it was taken down with the suggestion of: "The best reviews provide context, detail and perhaps even a helpful tip or two. I loved this bar. I am Armenian and I love the fact that my hometown is known for its Armenian flavor. The famous is a good Rock and Roll bar, that serves whiskey, and serves Armenians well, too. As soon as the new ownership came in, they turned it into the model for a failure: they took this hands on attitude, opting to play the same bullshit I hear at hookah bars. It's painfully clear that the new owners have never owned a bar. Guys; if I wanted to hear Super Sako and obnoxious house music when I go out to drink, I'd put a suit on and go upstairs to Brandview. Don't turn the famous into Royal Vanak. It's got its own vibe that works well and keeps us coming back. (I've been going to the Famous, I am well known by the staff and the regular patrons, and I've brought in HUNDREDS of people to the bar. Seriously been there almost every weekend for 5 years.) Keep the famous the way it is. No despacito three times in one night. No Daddy Yankee. Keep things the way they are. Don't turn this place into Little Gyumri.
