The people who come are relaxed, friendly, real and unique. And the diversity of performance is mesmerizing. There's apparently some seriously experienced people running this place. This year we got the usual great lineup but instead of the DIY style show in a parking lot, Professor Vic moved it to the Cathedral. Located right off Garey, The Cathedral is tough to miss. There's plenty of street parking on Center St and there's also a small parking lot across the street. This used to be a YMCA but it looks like an old church with dark wood flooring, high ceilings and stained glass windows. A very cool venue. How did it sound? Loud. Extremely loud. They also had a huge video board which gave each band a little extra hot sauce. There were a couple of bars in the back and you could also order food. It's air conditioned in there but between the heat (100+ outside at the time) and the amount of bodies inside, it was at least bearable. Mosh for Youth was great as always and while I loved the DIY ethos in the past this felt like a leap forward. The sound, look and venue made this feel big time. I hope future MFY shows take place here...until they maybe outgrow this place too, which would mean more scholarships for the kids. Highly recommended!

We went to see a tribute band with a very jazzy vibe, which was a lot of fun. The venue is quite small and fills up quickly, so grab a stool when you can! Just don't try to move it around, or you'll definitely hear about it. The bartenders seemed a little moody during our visit, although the place was very crowded, so I'm assuming that was why. Parking is surprisingly convenient, with public parking structures right outside the venue. They were only a few dollars an hour, and the first 90 minutes were almost free, which is a great bonus. The surrounding area is also lovely and very walkable.

Strong drinks, dim lights, and the best new artists!…read more Its been almost 20 years since I first went to a Hotel Cafe, before they had the second stage (which is a great room), when they still had a parking structure in back. It was all a foreign concept to me. Booking three or four or five acts in one night, charging you admission only once based on which act you came in for and most of the time if you came to the first you could stay through the 5th, or as most did, they came to see who they intended to see and maybe saw some of the act that was after and then went out to Hollywood to get some eats with their friends. Hotel Cafe is going away in 2026, but it is not gone, they will just be moving from their iconic Hollywood location, that small room that barely held 150, a small stage in the corner, a few low tables and a bar in the back to a new location in Los Angeles. It is the place where the singer-songwriter movement of the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s hard launched a revival. It's like what the Troubadour was to the Laurel Canyon singers in the 1970s. Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Greg Laswell, Priscilla Ahn, Meiko, Cary Brothers and many others. Adele even played here before her first album released in the US. I saw Sara Bareilles here once and she left everyone in tears after her song and bolted out the back door. I went to the front of the house and her family were blowing out the last of the signed copies her tour posters for only $10 since it was the last show of her tour. I bought a few. I have come here to see a friend like Big Phony sing, and then exit into the back room/lobby and see Hollywood stars entering to see their friend who would be singing next. It's that kind of local spot. The sound was always great and the drinks were well crafted and strong. I recently saw Priscilla Ahn sing here again and it brought back memories of the first time I saw her here, when she only had a 5 track EP CD. When she sang Dream again this year, it felt like everything had come full circle, since that first CD released 20 years ago. I cannot wait to see what the new building looks like, but a huge part of me, like for everyone else that has been here, will miss that little room in the back of the alley, where young dreamers became singers, where singers became stars.

Glad we got there when they opened so we could snag seats. There were only about 25 seats with standing room behind. There is a bar. It was very dark inside. And the guitars were mixed TOO LOUD! I thought it was okay at first you know he was doing his job but then I explained we went to just get water and he started saying no re-entry which he didn't imply at first, followed by you can't bring outside drinks in with a mean tone. I then said "Sir, I just said we went to the car to get water I DO NOT have it with me as you can see". He started giving us attitude saying why we're even showing him our ID?? at that point I was annoyed so I said "Just let us in sir we explained ourselves I don't know why this is so complicated". He noticed I got annoyed and started saying "Omg girl I was just joking damn you can't even take a joke why would you show me your ID again I don't want to see it" literally contradicting himself trying to make it seem like he wasn't just being rude. So my brother ended up just telling him "just have a goodnight" and we walked back in, but at that point though I felt so uneasy and just wanted to leave cause he left both of us just feeling weird. Even if he was "joking" please just have a security guard who doesn't "joke" on the clock and leave people with uncertainty, so unprofessional never coming back.

The food was decent and the drinks were very strong. The bar got crowded around 9pm for the show. It was an interesting mix of old school, Millennial, and Gen Z. You can track the Gen Z crowd because they tend to lack situational awareness. They kept bumping into me, and I unfortunately and unintentionally ended up having many butts graze my arm and shoulder. The Millennials were the hyped, almost manic tipsy crowd singing along to all the songs. While the Old School silently kept to themselves in the back. There is a dedicated paid lot and street parking.

They should call it Blue Greed, or perhaps, Blue Avarice. I came here with my partner for the first time this past weekend to see the great Alex Isley perform her first set at 7 PM on Sunday. She was wonderful, as always, and her band was great (although the instruments were mixed far too loudly and frequently drowned out her voice). Unfortunately, the performance was the only thing that made the evening worthwhile. The overall experience does not come remotely close to the value Blue Note believes it provides. There is little to no transparency about ticket types or what you actually get for them (guess again if you think you're getting your own table). The seating is horrendous: cramped, shoulder-to-shoulder communal tables meant for toddlers at Thanksgiving, often without even a direct line of sight to the stage. You have to practically turn yourself sideways--or completely around--to watch the artist you paid to see. And good luck getting to the bathroom. The food and beverage are subpar and cost the price of your kidney. Service is abysmal. And the crumpled, dirty table signage demanding a $20 minimum is downright cheap and tacky. Look, I get it. It's Hollywood. It's LA. It's the Blue Note. You're paying for the brand, the reputation, and the ability to draw artists you know and love. But that is precisely the problem: this place seems to have forgotten that the people buying those tickets are guests, not revenue streams. Blue Note doesn't seem to care about your comfort, your engagement, or your experience with the artist or the music you paid to see. It feels like a money-grab establishment trading almost entirely on its name and reputation--and knowing that people will continue to come regardless. Will this review move the needle? Probably not. And they know it. They're the Blue Note. They're too big to fail. And that's the saddest part. I damn well know I will never come here again. The price simply does not meet the value. Jazz deserves better. So do the people paying for it.

Cool photo ops all around. They had a trivia game scrolling over the bar which is always fun. Lots of lounge seating great for smaller groups to drink and chat. That being said there were some things I didn't anticipate and wasn't prepared for: -not enough accessible parking very busy for a Friday night. When I arrived at 6:45pm valet parking was already full -no AC in the venue- two ceiling fans. It was unbelievably hot inside. -seating at the tables near the stage requires dinner service and there were 10 adults seated at an 8 ft table. Just impossible. The tables were end to end. No space to move. I was seated between two men and our shoulders were touching and everyone is trying to eat dinner. I was having a panic attack so my friend got us moved. -the meal was ok and so were the drinks. We had to purchase dinner and 2 drink minimum in addition to the price of the concert ticket. I knew this when I made the purchase but had no idea what the food was going to be like. - my meal was blackened Salmon. Which was good but a very small piece of salmon. The garlic mashed potatoes were ok however my veggies weren't steamed they were too hard. The entree was $42. No salad, bread or dessert option. I think this was very pricey for what I received. Despite what bothered me above. I had a great time after we moved our seats away from the stage and got to finish our meal with some elbow room. There isn't a bad seat in the entire venue so I am not sure why they cramped all the tables like they do. The space allows for lots of walking around so you can visit with friends- which I did. The venue is accessibility friendly. The entertainment was amazing and I have to mention all the staff working that night were very accommodating. They checked on me a few times. The staff Zoe, Ryan and Marco were all so very helpful. Including Robin the sound engineer-he was friendly as well. I will return if another act I want to see is playing at The Canyon Club. Now I know what to expect and can plan accordingly.

Before my most recent show, it was a venue I looked forward to visiting. However, it had been a bit of time since I was last at the club and things have changed. Unfortunately, after the show I attended on July 31, I may not be back. Please note that this review is for the venue only, not the show itself. While there is a large parking lot, and parking is free, it was very difficult to find a space. We drove around for about 15 minutes before we were able to see someone leaving a parking space that we could grab. On the day of the concert, the temperature was 100° F outside, or possibly a bit higher. When we arrived at the venue, we found that it does not have refrigerated air conditioning - just some fans. It was uncomfortably hot inside. If I had known this would be the case, I'd have brought a portable personal fan. It's hard to believe that a venue that holds up to 1,200 people does not have legit air conditioning. For those that would like a seat, you have to purchase dinner along with your concert ticket. The dinner selections are very limited and pricey. There is no longer drink service at the tables, so you must head to the bar for drink orders. Since the tables are packed so tightly together, this is not the most convenient situation for patrons. Also, if you use a credit card for your purchases, you will be charged an extra service fee. The bartenders Gus, Zack, and Lindsay were great. They provided friendly service and were a lot of fun. I felt bad that they had to endure the uncomfortable hot working conditions while taking care of everyone. I rarely leave a one-star review. It is really a shame that the club owners don't value their guests and artists to keep the venue comfortable. For the price of tickets, food, and drinks, we really deserve a better experience.
