i can't believe i've never been here before. what a gem! happy hour every day, 2 pool tables upstairs and a friendly bartender. close proximity to carl's jr too if you need to get something greasy. a band came in to play at 8 and they were awesome. will totally be back again

Only bar in the area I'll go to frequently, Angel and Danielle are the best bartenders this place has hired and they've changed the vibe in the place overall. Went from a kids playground for fights and people who don't know how to drink to now regular people I see who are really chill to hang with. Have Angel make you a good Mexican Candy shot or have Danielle hook you up with a bomb ass Paloma shooters, I assure you'll have a cool time with either of them here!

Going to a bar? What is that?! After more than a year not visiting a bar, I definitely felt out of place coming here, but after a few drinks, I started feeling a little more comfortable. I had gone with a few friends for a birthday. I believe this is the local bar for the La Cañada/Montrose area. It's pretty clean and has good entertainment such as pool, pinball, a jukebox, and cheap drinks. They also have two floors. At the time that we visited they only had the first floor bar operating, which was fine. It wasn't too busy, so it was manageable.

Wonderful bar full of interesting locals. Misha does a great job bartending, and there is ample parking in the area.

Moscow mule and a white Russian. Tasty cocktails

Love this old school vibe! It's a shame there needs to be more bars like this around. Come for the cold beer stay for the even colder women.

Expect yokels sitting around, but the drinks are fairly priced. Get their early to snag the pool table and after 10PM bounce out.

Why such a long hiatus? The tap list over the last months just hasn't had anything I've wanted to drink. It's been a lot of repeats of things I've had over and over or beers that just aren't appealing -- or, in many cases, both. The Glendale Tap used to have a fairly good turnover of new brews, but lately, it seems to be in a rut. Imports are pretty much never to be seen -- like everywhere else, sadly. Even out-of-state beers are rare. And on my most recent visit, at least half of the tap list was tapped out. IPAs and sours take up so much of the list -- stouts in the cooler months -- while styles like bitters, milds, (non-India) pale ales, brown ales, bocks, amber lagers, smoked beers, etc., get little to no space on the tap list. I still love the atmosphere of the Glendale Tap, and the bartenders there are the best. Prices are fair, and there's always something at least decent to drink. But I miss those fulsome tap lists with a variety of beer styles from far and wide. More and more, the Glendale Tap is becoming too much like every other beer bar. I know L.A. beer drinkers are extremely parochial with very limited tastes (basically IPA, IPA, IPA, and IPA, with some super sours thrown in), but I would hope the Glendale Tap could return to just a smidgen of its former excellence. Until then, I probably will be visiting biannually instead of bimonthly.

The pastrami fries is prob the best thing I've eaten in a while - I had never had pastrami but my husband loves it , this is the best thing ever. Perfect portion with enough pastrami, fries, sauce and pickles for every bite. Wish I lived in the area to eat this dish specifically. Also got the pizza bites (essentially a flat bread cut up), blue cheese burger and non returnable hot Nashville chicken sandwich- all very good and would order again. But the fries are the star. Only "issue" was wrong chicken sandwich was brought 2x so took the 3rd time to get the right one. Other than that, this place is great and would very much recommend checking out.

With the seemingly ever-changing landscape along Brand Blvd. in downtown Glendale, this establishment has been around since 2012 (which I believe was the first and only time I came here). Primarily known for its inventive craft cocktails and a killer whiskey selection, it was a nice place to sneak away into before or after your main event... or, maybe this could be the place to spend an entire evening. Would this bar famously make an impression on me to remember to return in the future!? After a few minutes of reviewing the menu, we each placed our order at the bar, our drinks were delivered quickly while the food took mere minutes to arrive at the table. We had to approach the bar each time we ordered something, but any empty glasses and plates were collected at the table. Once we closed out our tabs, we were thanked for coming as we headed out into the night. Everything was chill and easy - thank you! PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance): I parked in the nearby original Glendale Galleria parking structure and simply walked over first to The Americana then to this place. Otherwise, there was limited parking along the main drag of Brand Blvd. and other surrounding side streets, the nearby Glendale Galleria II parking structure, The Americana parking structure that offered validation, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A dark cavernous speakeasy-like place with open space, various tables and couches strewn about, and a large long somewhat decorative bar with an impressive whiskey selection displayed behind it. I appreciated the exposed brick walls which gave it that old-time feel with a few framed pictures hung on them. Minimal natural lighting came through the front doors and windows while minimal electric ceiling lights filled in rest. There was at least one projection TV where we watched the Dodgers game while music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=SomLKsk1KVcemeOCHGOZfg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was nice to slip into The Famous Bar for the first time in over a decade, and if I found myself spending time in downtown Glendale again, I'd consider another visit. Sadly, I try to avoid the highly congested area as much as possible. I loved the fact that they had a daily happy hour (4pm-7pm) and late-night SU-TH happy hours (10:30pm-close), so there was always a deal to be found. The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... It's not on Happy Hour. $9 for a tall glass. - Potato Skins are stacked with toppings and super cheesy. We tried their house Ranch and asked for a side of Bleu Cheese. Unfortunately, our experience was the complete opposite when it came to service. We sat at the bar, and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. There were at least four people working behind the bar, which made the lack of service even more puzzling. It genuinely felt like we were being ignored. Not in a "they're slammed" kind of way, there was just a really odd lack of acknowledgment throughout our entire meal. What's especially surprising is how many reviews mention great service, because that was definitely not our experience. I asked to taste a couple of different beers before deciding, which was totally fine, but after that it took forever to actually get someone's attention to order one. Once we finally got our beer, we were ready to order food, but again, no one acknowledged us. We waited patiently and eventually had to get someone's attention ourselves. We ordered the fish and chips and the pot roast French dip. The menu says the French dip comes with a choice of chips or salad, but our server never asked us which we wanted. We assumed chips were the default since the choice was never mentioned. When our food arrived, we didn't have any silverware. We asked the person who dropped off our food for some, and he seemed genuinely confused by the request. It took a while for him to bring us rolled silverware that was apparently already ready to go. We then asked about the chips with the sandwich. He went to the kitchen, came back with the ticket, told us it came with salad and that we needed to request chips, and then simply walked away. This was probably the most frustrating part because it would have been such an easy customer-service moment to handle differently. Chips aren't exactly an expensive or complicated item. A simple, "It actually comes with salad unless you request chips, but no problem I'll bring you some," would have completely changed the interaction. Instead, we were essentially told we were wrong and left it at that. After that, no one checked on us. I needed some extra malt vinegar and asked the bartender for it. He never brought it and never acknowledged the request again. What made the whole experience even stranger was that the people sitting around us seemed to be getting perfectly normal service. It just felt like we were somehow invisible. After we finished eating, our plates sat in front of us for a long time. Again, no one checked on us, asked if we wanted another drink, dessert, or anything else. I eventually had to physically push my plate toward the edge of the bar and ask for the check before we got any acknowledgment. I honestly can't remember the last time I experienced service that was this consistently odd and nonexistent. And unfortunately, the food itself wasn't anything particularly memorable either. We were genuinely looking forward to having a new neighborhood spot, so it was disappointing to leave with such a bad impression. Maybe we caught them on an off night, but based on our experience, we won't be returning.

The people here were nice and had a corky humour to them. Our table got two sausage platters, frickles, lemon pepper wings, and a pretzel. There is usually an expectation for American bar food before you enter the establishment, and they all lived up to the hype. The textures were amazing, fried food was crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside. Sausages had a bite to them and tender in the middle. Flavour profiles here were smoky, punchy, sweet, and vinegary. The lettuce mix under the sausages was a nice touch too. This fed four perfectly. Great variety of beer too! Loved the additions of a rice lager and a sour. A great spot for hanging out with friends, snacking, and snacking... and snacking till you realise that was dinner!

Hungary didn't make it to the World Cup this year so that was a bit of a bummer, considering my fam is from the old country. However, my second all-time fave, France, was still in the semi-finals. You see, I grew up watching Zinedine Zidane and to me, the World Cup brings back childhood memories and family bonding time. The menu items took me back in time. Much to my surprise, I noticed that there was a Hungarian kielbasa & a Debreziner sausage listed on their $10 lunch deal. I was shocked that I had the opportunity to debate over which one to pick. DEBREZINER sausage (in German) or for us Hungarians, is better known as "Debreceni Virsli" and made in the region where my dad's side of the fam grew up. It's often served cut up on the sides and has a richer color. For me, it's a bit juicier and there's more paprika in there. It's more along the lines of chorizo, if that's what your flavorbuds prefer. It's made with sweet and hot paprika, garlic, pepper, and marjoram. If my dad had been with me that day, he'd opt for the Debreziner. After deliberating for a bit, I decided to go with the HUNGARIAN KIELBASA and decked it out with grilled onions, sauerkraut, and jalapeños (very hot, stated the menu). The jalapeños rivaled the outside 100+ degree temperature. Thankfully, the cool AC made me forget it was one sweltering summer's day. Also, the Hibiscus Cider was crisp and made my experience and the lackluster game worth my time out. I loved how easy the ordering went-just tap the menu on the iPad and voila, you got the whole spiel. Service was quick and felt welcoming like I was at home in someone's living room with tons of TVs all around. Sadly, France didn't show up to play in the game until the last 5 mins or so. Spain obvi deserved the win and yes, this year's cup for their fancy footwork. The vibe was great and the crowd around me were locals on a first name basis with the staff. With awesome cider and food as tasty as I had growing up at home, I think I'll make it a goal to be on a first name basis around here during the NHL & NFL season.
