This place underwent an ownership change in October 2023 and is under new management. It's your classic friendly neighborhood dive that serves up expertly crafted cocktails at budget friendly prices. The bartenders are fantastic! Especially Alex, who is friendly & engaging. I specifically came here to support my girl, Johanna. She was doing a guest bartending shift. An added bonus was also seeing Alex and my buddy Juan (who also works here). In honor of National Margarita Day (2/22) Johanna created some specialty cocktails featuring Tromba Tequila. I started with a Classic Margarita. It was absolutely perfect and made with fresh lime & agave. The bartenders here make everything from scratch. No bottled mixers, which is how it should be. For dessert I had the Espresso Martini (Tromba Cafeto, Tromba Reposado, & Cold Brew). It was my first time having an Espresso Martini with tequila, and it was delicious! Perfectly balanced and not overpowering. During my visit I had the pleasure of speaking with the new owner, Sung. She was darling and she genuinely cares about her establishment, staff, and clientele. We had a great chat and she told me that she's thinking of adding a dart board and possibly a Pac Man tabletop. Most importantly, she wants to make sure customers have a memorable experience. I can honestly say that it absolutely was for me! Even though it was a school night I couldn't leave without doing a shot with my favorite crew. A Mexican Candy shot (Tromba Blanco, Watermelon, Agave), which was another delicious creation that I thoroughly enjoyed. With the seemingly ever-changing landscape along Brand Blvd. in downtown Glendale, this establishment has been around since 2012 (which I believe was the first and only time I came here). PARKING (FREE): I simply walked over from the nearby El Sol Family Restaurant where I earlier parked. Otherwise, I didn't recall a separate lot for them, but there were many spots along the main drag of Honolulu Ave. - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A casual divey simple bar that seemingly catered to the locals in the neighborhood with a lone pool table, a dart board, several tall tables, and a basic bar on the inside, while an open back patio with communal tables and lawn ornaments was nice for some fresh air. I saw two dogs inside, which was a nice thing. The only natural light entered through the front or back doors whenever they were open (obviously, the back patio was all natural lighting with some hung string electric lights) while dim electric ceiling lights covered the rest inside. I believed there were a couple of muted TVs while customers fed the jukebox for some music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I was always down for a dive bar, and Gilligan's Irish Pub nearly fit the bill. I was fine with the no-frills aspect, but outside of the Guinness on tap and signage, it didn't feel quite like other Irish pubs I've been to; rather, just a regular watering hole where the regulars came in after work, shot the shit, didn't care too much of what they were drinking, and possibly husbands hid here from their wives. There wasn't a kitchen, so outside food was allowed, but I understood they sometimes had food trucks. Additionally, I wasn't sure whether or not they had a happy hour. The prices were affordable, the liquor selection was decent, and the service was easy. Plus, I preferred to support small mom & pop businesses whenever possible. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $6.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Unfortunately, our experience was the complete opposite when it came to service. We sat at the bar, and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. There were at least four people working behind the bar, which made the lack of service even more puzzling. It genuinely felt like we were being ignored. Not in a "they're slammed" kind of way, there was just a really odd lack of acknowledgment throughout our entire meal. What's especially surprising is how many reviews mention great service, because that was definitely not our experience. I asked to taste a couple of different beers before deciding, which was totally fine, but after that it took forever to actually get someone's attention to order one. Once we finally got our beer, we were ready to order food, but again, no one acknowledged us. We waited patiently and eventually had to get someone's attention ourselves. We ordered the fish and chips and the pot roast French dip. The menu says the French dip comes with a choice of chips or salad, but our server never asked us which we wanted. We assumed chips were the default since the choice was never mentioned. When our food arrived, we didn't have any silverware. We asked the person who dropped off our food for some, and he seemed genuinely confused by the request. It took a while for him to bring us rolled silverware that was apparently already ready to go. We then asked about the chips with the sandwich. He went to the kitchen, came back with the ticket, told us it came with salad and that we needed to request chips, and then simply walked away. This was probably the most frustrating part because it would have been such an easy customer-service moment to handle differently. Chips aren't exactly an expensive or complicated item. A simple, "It actually comes with salad unless you request chips, but no problem I'll bring you some," would have completely changed the interaction. Instead, we were essentially told we were wrong and left it at that. After that, no one checked on us. I needed some extra malt vinegar and asked the bartender for it. He never brought it and never acknowledged the request again. What made the whole experience even stranger was that the people sitting around us seemed to be getting perfectly normal service. It just felt like we were somehow invisible. After we finished eating, our plates sat in front of us for a long time. Again, no one checked on us, asked if we wanted another drink, dessert, or anything else. I eventually had to physically push my plate toward the edge of the bar and ask for the check before we got any acknowledgment. I honestly can't remember the last time I experienced service that was this consistently odd and nonexistent. And unfortunately, the food itself wasn't anything particularly memorable either. We were genuinely looking forward to having a new neighborhood spot, so it was disappointing to leave with such a bad impression. Maybe we caught them on an off night, but based on our experience, we won't be returning.
