I came here for brunch on a weekday and it was busy busy! A friend recommended us coming here and I thought it being busy was a great sign! We were sat within 15 minutes of arrival. Our server was very sweet. I ordered the almond joy alcoholic coffee and it was so good! We also ordered blueberry limón shots and those were really good too! We shared the gingerbread pancake and it was delicious. I also ordered the Cuban shrimp bowl which turned out bangin. 10/10 experience and food. Not gonna lie. This place definitely has the sauce. The aesthetics were pretty good and definitely trendy. I did like how the hostess made sure to find out who was next in line to be sat. Our waitress was definitely spot on and helpful. The food portion sizes will not leave you wanting to more this I assure you. I had the Monte Cristo and the pancakes, and they absolutely slapped. Been wanting to try this place out for awhile now but the wait time is always 1hr+ and we are always too hungry to wait until... one rainy Sunday for breakfast we lucked out and there was no wait! It was seat yourself at the time which was odd because it was busy and we didn't know what tables would be open. A lot of the open ones we past had not been bused yet. We finally found a seat in the back against the wall. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We ordered two coffees and waters while we went over their massive menu. We settled on, for me: the gravy biscuit breakfast (had a different name) came with two eggs any style and a side, I chose the home fries. Hubby ordered the regular French toast (again not the actual name) and it also came with eggs, side and his had an additional meat selection. Once our food came it all looked promising. Big portions. The eggs were cooked perfectly on both our orders and hubby said he loved the bacon. However, the gravy tasted like it was out of an instant powder mix with scarcely any sausage to label it a sausage gravy and the biscuits it was paired with were super hard. My home fries were burnt and hubby said he could make better french toast at home. We were super disappointed in the end. We had high hopes for this place. It's getting 3 stars because of the great service and the perfectly cooked eggs. Other than that it was a 1 or 2 star at best. read more

The food here is always on point and they give you so much. I was able to sit at the bar today with my husband and watching the cooks and bartenders was an amazing experience while waiting for our food. They all work their butts off and always has a smiling face and friendly to all customers. Please tip them well! Our favorite dishes are the infused pancakes with banana, corned beef and the Philly Philly omelet. My daughter loves the chocolate chip pancake. We always have leftovers for the next morning. Love that we can come on a busy weekend time and give them our phone # so they can text us once our table is ready. read more

I stopped by here on a Saturday morning hoping to miss the busy time, it was like 9am and I think we barely made it before the rush. We were seated quickly at a table kind of in the ease way and i almost elbowed a few folks coming/going. Their latte is decent, but it's about the size of a mug of coffee. I rather have gotten a refillable cup of coffee since I need more caffeine in the morning. The bloody Mary was awesome and came out quickly! My mom got a Mediterranean omelette, she liked it but said she wasn't keen on the cubed hash browns. She thought they were going to be chunks of potatoes on the grill top, not little square fries. I made my own omelette and it was awesome!! I recommend this to get all the goodies you want. The turkey sausage was a weird and lumpy shape versus other meats, but it was good!! The omelettes here are a wrap style with the ingredients folded in nicely. They save a tad of filling to "label" them on top, it's a clever way to differentiate. I like that the grits were plain and not the kind which leave shell kernels in my gums. Food came out in decent time and waitress was cheerful. They have two unisex bathrooms which were clean and stocked when I visited them. Parking is hit or miss as to whether you come at a peak time. read more

The Bistro has upped their to-go game with checklists to accompany the orders. The last 2 orders we've placed have been perfect and the hubby and I have returned to dining in at least once a week, if not more. Hopefully soon, they'll be able to open the bar here like their sister locations! Our last couple of times dining in, service with Madison & Abby has been prompt and friendly. We are most often in around 7am when they open - the coffee is hot and waiting for us and ticket times are somewhere from 5-10 minutes on the weekdays. It's impressive! I've always been overwhelmed by and super impressed with their portion sizes. Hubs and I could probably split one meal (even an early bird meal) and be happy! We each end up taking, at most, half of the order home. The early bird prices until 8 are unbeatable. My forever go-to for breakfast and brunch... love this place! read more

I read other reviews about trying to get on a waitlist beforehand but I found it futile. We show up and were told 1 hour. It was roughly 45 minutes. I scanned the QR code on the table and wanted to order a latte as my drink, but the waitress seemed confused and informed me that they don't do that. Funny, the menu has it listed? Anyway, I went with steak and eggs, while my husband got the chicken and biscuits. Both were just okay. The steak was very thin, so my medium-well steak was well-done. The cubed potatoes and hash browns were good though. I tried my husbands hash browns as he added cheese and onions, and it was the star of the dish. The eggs weren't good though. My husband was pretty upset that they aren't offering cronuts at this time either. He didn't love his second choice dish. His chicken was very dry and chewy, I myself was not impressed. The gravy for his biscuits was decent enough. My brother got chicken and waffles and he mentioned the same thing about his chicken being chewy. His girlfriend got chocolate chip waffles and she was very happy with her order. I don't think we'd come back but it was nice to try something different. There are so many great restaurants in VB, Norfolk, and Chesapeake. The Egg Bistro is not one of them. Came in today for breakfast and it was fairly empty. Our server spent time talking to her friends before acknowledging our table. We asked if a dish could be made without pork due to dietary restrictions, and she responded, "no." There was no offer for other dishes or suggestions, just a flat out "no." It was obvious that our server was having a bad day from the start and did not want to be working. We waited a long time for our food, which was quickly dropped off by another server. The food was dropped on the table with no chance to ask for napkins or condiments. We had to leave our table twice for things that would normally be offered in any dining situation. Our server NEVER came to our table to ask how the food was. The hash browns I received were rock hard and clearly were old and had been refried multiple times. Disgusting and inedible. The eggs were not cooked medium and were runny, but the grossest part was biting into multiple shells. I would have loved to order something else just so I didn't have to sit for over an hour without food, but our server never came to our table once. She had three tables including ours and spent the entire time with a table of younger guys. When she came to drop off the check, I explained the situation. No apology or offer to make the situation better. She came back with a small discount applied to the check but the full price of the meal remained. What blew us away was that the tip options started at 20% and went up to 27%! So you pay far more than any other breakfast place for disgusting old food and are expected to pay a minimum of a 20% tip no matter how bad the service is. I've been to this location a couple times in the past and this is definitely my worst experience by far. The wait time was 20-25 minutes for a table for my wife and I which is understandable since it was Veterans Day. It took us almost an hour to get our food from the time we ordered. Our server only checked on us once at about the 25 minute mark to ask us about our drinks. We watched 3 different tables who were seated after us get their food before us. I ordered the Virginia Beach cheesesteak with garlic fries. When our food finally came out my cheesesteak was soggy at the bottom. The fries were barely warm and the lettuce on top of the steak was not fresh at all. It just seemed like my plate had been sitting there for a couple minutes. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures though as I was just focused on eating after waiting so long. I don't know what was going on since all of our past experiences here were extremely good. I love coming here for Sunday brunch after the initial breakfast rush. I had discovered their outside seating which is nice and quiet and has a huge fan to have some air circulation in the area. Today it was steaming hot , however they do have shade coverings over the tables and that fan , so it made it a tiny bit more comfortable to sit. Our server was nice and attentive. We ordered the lychee mimosa, a flight mimosa , a Belgian waffle , and the Dave's chicken sandwich. The lychee mimosa was very refreshing and had a nice sweetness to it. I think it is now a staple of mine. The flight mimosa we were able to choose our own fruit juice and crushed fruit. We chose good variety and all of them were very good. The waffle was perfectly soft with a nice crisp to it. Now the chicken sandwich was VERY good, I got the mild sauce just to test and it was just enough heat to not be overwhelming. I recently visited a friend in Chesapeake and was delighted to breakfast at The Egg Bistro! I chose Eggs Benedict with bacon instead of Canadian bacon, and boy, was I happily surprised. This change was a very good idea and the saltiness of the bacon helped balance the mildness of the grits served with my Eggs Benedict. In fact, it was just what I needed to get my day of sight-seeing going and it kept me full until lunchtime. The price was good too and I was surprised to see my friend, who normally eschews dining out, really enjoyed his meal of eggs, potatoes, turkey sausage links, and a biscuit. He's very picky and couldn't believe how good the turkey sausage tasted. When I return to town, which I generally do a couple of times a year, we will be visiting your establishment again. Solid place. Very popular. Their marbled rye toast is really good. They said they get it from Baker's Crust. I've been here a few times. The last time I just wanted a basic omelet with toast and a side of sausage or bacon. The only disappointment was that the omelet was not at all a fluffy kind of omelet. My guess is it's ready made egg that they pour on a skillet, add the cheese and other items and fold it. It's not whipped up it appears. So it was a thin and rubbery omelet. So other food is good but I wouldn't come here expecting a nice fluffy omelet. read more

Every time I head up from ENC to visit my bestie in Chesapeake we always have The Egg Bistro early Sunday morning. This trip was no different. As always I snagged the delectable Banana Nut Bread French toast with eggs scrambled with cheddar cheese and potatoes with onions/peppers, but switched it up with sausage links instead of bacon. As always the French toast was light and not heavy at all, with perfect fresh bananas and sauces you just want to roll around in because it's sooooo good. The mimosa flight was all great too!! One of the only brunch spots I visit in Chesapeake. The wait (despite how long it sounds) is never really too long. The servers I've encountered have always been pleasant and knowledgeable. My only drawback is the mimosas are a little too pricey for what you get. Maybe I'm spoiled by my favorite Brunch spot (I'm used to paying $2.50) but I just can't find the value in buying more than one mimosa, especially when it comes LOADED with ice.
