This place is a true gem. It actually is a breath of fresh air that this place is found in Edison! If you appreciate fine details and an eye for decor your eyes will be aesthetically pleased. Huge props to whoever decorated and set up the automat. It truley is beautiful and very welcoming. Moving on to the food. They have homemade goodies up front which I have not tried yet, but look very delicious. The menu is not too big and has great choices. I would highly recommend this place. Love this place! Very bright and welcoming. Somewhat of a limited menu but they will work with you. They have organic, gluten free products and cage free eggs. Loved the Smoky Tom omelette (smoked gouda, grilled broccoli, caramelized onions, Applewood bacon, topped with crispy shallots.) The omelette comes with mushrooms but they let me switch them out for the bacon) can't have mushrooms.) The omelettes come with breakfast potatoes or toast, I got the delicious potatoes. They have these pillow buttermilk pancakes that are very, very tasty. They don't have pork sausage, just Italian Chicken Sausage, which my brother really liked. We love Edison Automat. Pre-Covid we used to dine in for brunch every Saturday or Sunday. Post covid we still order to eat at home and the food is just as good. We love the service and the food there. Always fresh and delicious. I usually order the quinoa bowl or the southwest chicken wrap, my husband has tried the burgers and some other dishes. When visiting my daughter in NJ she suggested this restaurant for breakfast. Since then, we have visited twice. Great coffee which is very important to me and great service. I used to frequent another local family place , which I find has lost its appeal to me especially after the past 3 visits when eggs were cold and coffee even colder, Thank goodness Edison Automat is here . The Edison Automat isn't an "automat" for those of you (like me) who are old enough to remember what an automat was. What the Edison Automat is, is well executed cafe, with a very catchy name. My wife and I visited last Saturday, curious to see what became of the old Sunnyside deli. I'm a 30yr resident of No Edison and my wife is a life-long "townie", so, we were well familiar with the old place, which had gotten a bit tired and dated over the years. What we found in it's place was an inviting, bright and comfortable new cafe with friendly service and a menu that's a cut above the other offerings on this side of town. My wife had a latte and the Classic breakfast sandwich. i had a Chai latte and the Tequila Sunrise sandwich. It was all terrific. read more

They offer tons of Gluten Free options, which is good for my wife, including cookies. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. There was a good selection of sandwiches and omelettes. The coffee is fantastic and the ingredients are fresh. I can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu. The aesthetic is modern with a touch of 50s style. It's very clean even though there is limited seating. They can put tables together but it's on the smaller side. There isn't any table service per se. We sat at the table for ten minutes without anyone coming to take our order and when someone finally came over we were asked to move to a smaller table because they had a big party coming. We moved tables without complaining and then sat for another 15 minutes when someone finally came over. The waiter began taking out order and then looked at the table next to us and say they were waiting to pay and walked away from us without saying anything. We watched him go take their check, take another tables check, get people drinks that came after us and then he began to take the order of a party of 6 that just came in. My friend and I had brunch here this morning. It was an absolutely wonderful experience! The staff are incredibly friendly and so attentive. We loved the pancakes; so fresh, fluffy and delicious. I love this place. The food is consistently great, and they will fall over themselves to accommodate customers with food allergies. There is a wheat allergy in my family and this restaurant will substitute most menu items for this allergy and celiac disease. They have awesome fresh baked gluten free bread and cookies! Now the restaurant has outdoor dining and heaters for the cooler weather for those who don't feel comfortable eating inside during the pandemic.
