Pleasantly Surprised Birthday Dinner I had been hearing a lot about The Eagle, but had never made it in for a visit. So I finally got the opportunity to come in while celebrating a friends birthday. When I look at any menu and see limited entree diversity I immediately begin to worry and my expectations for quality and taste shoot through the roof. With fried chicken being their only real option available here, the bar was immediately raised in my head, and I can truly say that The Eagle delivered. We had a very large group, so the timing of service was off, but that is to be expected when you have one server for a room full of people. I went with the 1/4 chicken (white meat), macaroni, & collard greens. I would recommend all of them to anyone looking at the menu trying to decide to what they should order. read more

Cute little restaurant within walking distance of the Hilton downtown. The appetizer of spicy chicken dip is good, but you better like spicy heat. I don't think I would get it again. It's a little overwhelming. The fried chicken is great. It doesn't come with biscuits. You have to order those separate. The Mac and cheese was great, but it doesn't have any toppings like additional cheese or breadcrumbs. The horseradish mashed potatoes are good. It's a decent portion. The potatoes are chunky. The surprise hit were the fries. They have a nice seasoning that's not just salt and a very interesting aioli dipping sauce. I didn't see any desserts on the menu. My favorite spot for a fried chicken sandwich. I always get the fried chickens BLT sandwich with a side of fries. The dressing that comes with the fries goes into the sandwich for an extra hit of good flavor. Friends in town? Family? GNO? Cuz you can...this is THE place for fried chicken. You can take that hot sauce out of your purse sis because the spicy honey dipping sauce is finger licking good. My wife and our friends visited this resturant when we arrived in Columbus from Baltimore. We did not leave disappointed! Fried chicken cooked to perfection and the mac and cheese was amazing. Also the drinks are a great size for the price. Special shoutout to our amazing server Collin, who explained everything perfectly and was super alert to our needs. The Sloppy Joe and Chicken Sandwich was delicious! I recommend those for entrees. I also liked their mac and cheese, but it is like every other mac and cheese dish out there, and it was a little dry. Their Spoon Bread is also yummy! The prices for these dishes are a bit on the higher end, so if you're on a budget, this is not the place to go. This is a great place for groups and families. I enjoyed their cozy atmosphere and routy night life. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. read more

Food: was bland and tiny. Service: the waiter was nice but a lil hyper so was the other staff. Maybe couldn't wait to get rid of customers?? Ambiance: lOoked like a trainwreck of a designer was hired high off his/her arse and put together a really crappy look. Seats /bench were SO uncomfy. We went in there on Saturday Feb 1st and went to order drinks and food. My friends were sitting at a booth while I was ordering drinks and food at the bar. Meanwhile a server came up to them and told them they couldn't sit down....my friend said but we are getting food and drinks and the guy said if we are ordering from the bar we can't sit there. Note that there were no reserved signs or signs that you can't seat yourselves. The waiter said "that how I make my money". Upon hearing this I gave my drinks back to the bartender....we didn't even drink a sip. The food had not arrived and I told the bartender that we will like to cancel our order and leave. I explained to him what happened and asked if I can get a full refund. He said yeah and ran my card. We left and went to a different bar! A week or 2 later I was checking my card statements and noticed I got charged the amount at Eagle not only just the tab but the tip also! So I called and spoke to the manager! The manager said they couldn't do anything about it and to call corporate to get a refund. She said the corporate email and phone number are on their website! Well she lied! I just want to get refunded for the drinks I didn't drink and food we never got and the extremely unprofessional service! UPDATE: still never received my refund! This is a great casual restaurant with delicious fried chicken and other good food. The servers were friendly and attentive. We had the brown sugar bacon appetizer- It was sweet and savory with a spicy kick - the flavor was 10/10, the texture was 8/10, I would have liked it to be crisper. The fried chicken was fresh and tasty, again with just a little kick. It had a substantial batter and was dark golden brown. The spicy honey sauce was a great partner to the chicken. We sat outside, the seating was comfortable, long benches, and long tables. The biscuits were sweet and fresh. The fries were nice, served with a spicy sauce. We found parking easily, parking can be an issue in the Short North, but it wasn't too bad on this Thursday night. The menu had a large selection of cocktails and draft beer. This would be a great place for a group of friends. We will be back. read more

I hate to admit that this place is located right down the street from my apartment and I spent the first few years thinking it was just a bar. Even when I heard they had food, I made a judgement that the food wouldn't be good here because it's a bar. Ugh! Chalk this under places I stuck up my nose at and now love! A few friends suggested we go here for one of our monthly Happy Hours. I figured it was time to try this place out but I also had low expectations since I know they specialize in chicken sandwiches and I am already super dedicated to Hot Chicken Takeover. Our server was nice, friendly, kind of quirky. He kept the environment fun and lighthearted. We were seated near the door, but the weather was still nice out, so we enjoyed it! I was disappointed they didn't have Platform beer here. It's my fave and I usually can find it anywhere I go in Columbus. I opted for some type of Cinci IPA and it was ok. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich and my friends and I decided to split many of the sides. We got fries, mac & cheese, and cornbread. Our food soon came out and WOW! What a feast! I didn't know where to dig in first, so I started with the sandwich. It was fantastic!! I dipped it in their housemade ranch, which was delicious and zesty! The chicken was all white breaded meat with a perfectly seasoned coating. The fries were well seasoned and crispy. The cornbread had a delectable glaze on top. And the mac & cheese was so creamy. This is comfort food at its finest! I was extremely impressed and even texted my friends the next day saying all I could think about was this meal. I have been back once so far to get take out and it was also a great experience. All told, this place is different from Hot Chicken Takeover. Very different vibe and the chicken sandwich is equally delicious, just.... different. This might be one of my new faves in the Short North! read more

After living across the street from this joint for the past few months, I finally stopped in for a drink and bite to eat. It was pretty busy Saturday evening in the Short North and after putting my name on the waitlist, I actually found a seat at the bar and opted to hang there instead of waiting for a table. The bartender was the friendliest fella ever and got my drink order asap. My friend and I chilled for a bit, watching some sportsball and enjoying our Eagle Iced Teas. The drink was very similar to a long island and certainly packed a punch! After a while we put our order in and my goodness, the menu looked awesome! I'm a vegetarian and still had tons of options to choose from aside from the chicken. I eventually settled on the Country Green Salad and split the homemade biscuits with my friend. The food came out pretty quickly which was an amazing job on the kitchens part, considering how busy the place was. My salad was super yummy! The mustard vinaigrette was really light and flavorful, the candied pecans added a nice crunch, and the radish and cucumber definitely hit the spot. The biscuits were really good as well. The blackberry jam was awesome, paired with the honey butter, and you got yourself a winner! All around, this dinner was a complete success! I can't wait to come back and try some other items on the menu. I didn't order the mac n cheese this time around. However, my mouth watered as it was delivered to the guests around me. I was really blown away by how reasonably priced the place was as well. Once the weather gets nicer I can see myself chillin' on their giant patio, drink in hand, game on, and belly full. read more

I decided to come here with the family due to my experience at the location in Over The Rhine in Cincinnati. We happened to find ourselves in OTR right when the Eagle out there opened up for the first time. There was a long wait to get in, but we got on the waiting list at the right time to avoid a 2-hour delay. At this point in my life, I hadn't eaten a lot of fried chicken, so when I ordered the chicken here, it tasted like the best-fried chicken that I had tasted in a while. So when I saw that we were getting one here in central Oio, I was overjoyed. As the family and I made it down High Street, we hopped into this establishment to try this location. There was a slight wait, and the individual that greeted us was delightful. Once seated, we all looked at the menu to see what we wanted. I got the chicken again since I enjoyed it so much at the OTR location. The chicken didn't taste great as when I first tried it, but it was still pretty good. Its texture is spot on, and it's evident that they take the care to brine or marinate the poultry before adding that seasoned flour into the mix. I will have to come back and check out the chicken dish I had again and see if I update my current adjectives. Side wise, I had the fries and the biscuits, and both were finger-licking good. read more

The food here is really good. We tried the fried chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, biscuits, and coleslaw. Friendly service. The downside is they have communal seating, which I am not into, and it is open air in the warmer weather, also not my jam. We sat at the bar. Also, no desserts. This place is legendary to me. They're usually pretty busy but you'll almost always have a seat available. The fried chicken is unbelievable, it should be illegal to have this much flavor and crispyness on chicken. If you're not drizzling hot honey on the chicken, youre missing the full experience. This is one of my favorite fried chicken places in Columbus. Their fried chicken is not crispy/crunch style, but it is so flavorful. The meat was very juicy. Don't forget to eat with their signature spicy honey together. You can either order their fried chicken separately or get their fried chicken sandwich. Their side dishes were delicious too. Love their maple syrup bacon, Mac & cheese, and the sweet potato w/marshmallows. The prices were reasonable, and the service was good. They take reservation as well. read more

My best friend and I made our first trip to The Eagle last week. The positive: Food was pretty tasty and the location and view were incredible. The negative: Service was horrible (and it wasn't even busy while we were there). One of the entrees (fried chicken sandwich) was wrong when brought out; when we politely let the runner know the item was wrong, he scoffed and said "OK." That's it! No one else said anything the remainder of our meal. Once we got the corrected version, it was crisp, juicy and delicious. It took a couple tries to get boxes from our waiter before we gave up and got them ourselves from the host stand. Overall? Probably won't come back. read more

We had Colin as a server and he was absolutely incredible! Since we went for a friends birthday they also stored the cake and brought it out for us, so nice! The atmosphere is fun! This is one of my favorite places. I really enjoy coming here. The food is great and the people are fantastic. This is one of the best places, in my opinion, to get fried chicken that isn't made by your southern granny. The chicken skin is always crispy and never dry. I especially love that the have a spicy honey. I usually eat my chicken with honey and hot sauce and this is perfect for me. Their side items are amazing and come in cute little presentation dishes. Their drink menu is also one to brag about, from a variety and unique standpoint. I believe I hat the blackberry lemonade. It was great. I am never disappointed when I decide to eat at The Eagle. I literally crave this place all the time. I have tried almost every side food item. This visit me and and amir went for a double date for my best friends birthday. Everything was exactly how it should be. If you have not already made your way to The Eagle, you should absolutely do it soon. Like literally the fried chicken sandwich, the Mac and cheese, and the sweet potato crock are all soooo good every time. The fried chicken with the hot honey is also a hit, I just skipped the that this time because I was craving the fried chicken sandwich. When you make it to the Eagle try these three items, you will not be disappointed!! Also the spoon bread, collards, and the hush puppies are super great. Five stars doesn't do The Eagle justice. My girlfriend and I have been craving some good Southern Fried Chicken, and we finally found it here. We ordered a little bit of everything here. A healthy order of chicken, a side of biscuits, some spoon bread, French fries, and Mac and cheese. And the chicken was the star of the show! This chicken was crispy and juicy! On top of that the honey that comes with the chicken was just delicious. That combo would be my last meal if I had to choose. Let's get to the sides, the fresh fries were par for the course and nothing crazy but some good fries. The biscuits were a little on the dense side but with the jam and butter, they were unresistable. The Mac and cheeese was nice and cheesy with perfectly cooked pasta! But the star of the sides was the spoon bread! That could have been eaten as dessert by itself. It was THAT good. I think we found our new favorite chicken place. P.S. the have Lone Star here and that is always a win. read more

It's so creative, and the drinks are really the stellar stand out here. However, the atmosphere of those drinks is what gives me pause when thinking about coming back. The limited table situation, tiny cramped space, and loud music means that it doesn't feel particularly relaxing. People are constantly brushing up against you (even at 5PM), and holding a conversation at a normal distance is nearly impossible. NOTE: This place is covered in dust. No shade to the ownership as it doesn't appear to be anywhere near food prep areas (it's on the decor, on/around shelving, all over the faux plants, etc.), but if you're someone who's sensitive to dust, this is probably not a good fit. PROS: -I loooooooove how they've done their drink menu. As someone who is still exploring the potential of cocktails, their nerdy "chart" that places all of their drinks on a sweet/bitter and alcohol-forward/approachable visual chart is SUCH a help. As such, everything I ordered was absolutely amazing for me. I knew exactly what to expect from a drink because of its position on the chart, and it delivered. -Their drinks are really unique. Aqua faba? Fat washed alcohols? Lollipops or toasted marshmallows as garnishes? Super cool. Don't let some of the weirder descriptions creep you out of trying them. -All of their drinks were delicious. Everything I ordered was exactly as described. I often go places where the taste is barely related to its namesake, but they were entirely on-point here. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off that night as other reviewers are in love with the service, but our service was really really slow. No real rapport with the staff; just stating the name of a drink as they rushed past and then they were off to try to clean a table or take someone else's order. The drinks they made were great, but this isn't somewhere we'd go if we were in a hurry. -The pictures do not accurately convey how small this place is. Like, it's small. I'd guess less than 1000 square feet. My apartment is bigger by a lot. This isn't necessarily an issue, but it means people pile up quickly as they wait for seating (there's like 4/5 tables and then bar seating). The human walkways are small enough that the bartenders and other guests will brush against you a lot - even while seated. -I get the vibe they were going for here, but with the smaller space, I think a lot of the potential decor options had to "go" in order to fit more humans. It's giving me hardcore The Hearth Room (in Cincinnati) vibes, and I think it could honestly pull it off if it simply had more space. The "relaxed, sophisticated bourbon bar" doesn't quite come through as well when things are so focused on simply fitting in more bodies. -It's loud AF. Like, really, really loud. Between all the people and the blasting pop music, it required leaning into someone's ear in order to speak at normal volumes. We'd regularly have to pause the conversation if something in the music was building to a drop. This is not a place I'd take someone I wasn't very very comfortable with because it really requires being in someone's space to talk. -There's a single all-gender toilet here for everyone in the establishment. It's basically a revolving door of people in and out of it. The door auto-closes, however, so it's really difficult to figure out if it's open or not. There was usually a queue of people waiting in front of the door.

Since we've been visiting several breweries during our getaway, they even gave us a Seventh Son passport, which was a nice surprise and a fun way to continue exploring the local brewery scene. No wonder they are given that this place is an extension of the Bakersfield establishment just across the street. I have tried The Cincy Over the Rhine location first and liked it a lot. When I heard it was coming to Columbus just around my neighborhood I was pleased. I can't get over how nice the staff and everyone here is. The Patio is an absolute killer. Quite honestly my review is not based solely on the chicken. I am just not a big fan of this particular prep method and flavor. I like my fried chicken spicier and crunchier with a Cajun kick to it. Heavily breaded and greasy fattening, drizzled and oozing with oil. Yeah, more like Popeyes, funny enough. I'm trashy like that. Go ahead judge me! :) However I need to add, if you like this particular style this is still very good free range local chicken. Just drizzle it with that fresh honey and you're good to go. Now I do like the boneless chicken breast sandwich here and I think you can have it spicy. The Mac'n cheese is also a good option. Very hearty. I don't care for the fries much. The drinks menus (Tap/drafts/bottles) is pretty colorful and diversified. I like that you pay per the various pint sizes rather than one size. You can even get a 4oz glass if you are going easy. When it gets warmer (spring/summer), like hopefully when "Ohio weather" decides to get warmer, The Eagle patio is the place to be. read more

The food here was really delicious overall. The 5-piece drumsticks were fantastic, super moist, and tasty. The collard greens were alright, nothing special, but the mac and cheese was amazing - so creamy and flavorful. The succotash wasn't my favorite, but my husband loved it. The sweet potato crack was definitely a favorite too! A must have! However, the customer service was a huge letdown. We didn't have a reservation, so we were told we couldn't sit on the first floor, even though it was completely empty at 7 PM on a Saturday. As we were walking out, we overheard a table near us saying they didn't have reservations either, but they were still seated on the first floor. When we asked about it, we were met with condescending responses about reservations and told our only option was to sit at the bar. We were eventually seated upstairs, which was dead as well, but the service got even worse. The waiter checked in once and we waited 20 minutes just to get our bill. It felt like we were being treated as second-class citizens, especially since we had just come from Comfest. We weren't drunk or high, just trying to get away from the rain and have a nice meal. The pricing was reasonable, but the service really soured the experience. If we had been seated on the first floor with the same food and better service, this would've easily been a 5-star review. read more

As a former short north resident (still Columbus resident now) I frequented The Eagle a few times a month, sometimes twice a week. It was not always for the food obviously as it is a great night life spot as well. I see other reviews complaining about prices. Ah, this is not exactly KFC... You are still dining in the heart of trendy short north so adjust your expectations accordingly lol. To rate the food: It is very good here. The sides are always tasty and hearty. Mac and Cheese to name one. Very memorable. I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of this particular southern recipe of the chicken. I think it's Memphis style. I prefer t more on crunchy side. I did like the legs and wings more than thighs and breasts. Skin on those was very oily/soggy and flavor was off maybe as a result. Excellent bar and floor staff. Very friendly. On beautiful spring/summer days patio makes for an excellent hangout spot. Draft/beer selections are pretty good and come in all sizes, starting from 4oz. Nice feature. I really wanted to love this place, but it missed the mark. My favorite part of the meal was my salad. The fries were over seasoned and the aoli tasted more like mustard. The Mac and cheese was good, but nothing spectacular. For the friend chicken, the whole bird was a great portion for sharing, but didn't knock my socks off with the taste. The ambiance and spacing was great. There is bar seating, tables outside for when the weather is warm, and high tops with chairs or booths. The service was wonderful. read more

The food is normal. I would say good if it didn't cost as much as it costs. But if i'm paying what i'm paying I need to get more than just normal. However. this still remains one of the most active places you can enjoy spending your night at.
