Based on what I've read, I'm going to be in the minority here but I feel strongly that this review needs to be posted. This is my first trip to The Eagle and I went based on a friend's recommendation. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. There were very few people in the dining area on an early Sunday afternoon, while the surrounding establishments were packed - that should have been a warning sign. I ordered the Fried Chicken BLT which is described as having a fried chicken breast - it's not. It's a fried chicken cutlet, and it was soggy, thin and overcooked. No crispiness at all. The lettuce greens were wilted, and the tomato was mush. For $14 with no sides, it's an overpriced sandwich disaster. My friend ordered some fried chicken and the mac and cheese. Three pieces of chicken came out - the chicken legs were dark brown and soggy. The thigh was lighter but also soggy. I'm not sure if there's an oil problem in the kitchen (e.g. temperature and/or age) but we should have sent it back. The mac and cheese was soupy and bland. The service was great, but no server should be asked to bring out substandard fare. No need to ever revisit this establishment, and I encourage diners to explore other options. read more

I've gotten takeout from the eagle on several occasions but have never eaten in because it's usually packed. Wandered in on a Thursday evening and got seated right away. Our server was friendly and satisfactory. Our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered. I tried the drumsticks, collards, spoon bread and Mac and cheese. All which I had before so I knew it would be tasty. The chicken is very consistent and goes really great with their hot honey. The spoon bread is moist but not too crumbly. The Mac and cheese isn't the traditional baked southern Mac but still good. The collard greens could have had a little more flavor but definitely had a bit of a kick which I liked. Overall I'll definitely continue to frequent the Eagle whenever I'm in the mood for some fried chicken. read more

OFFf the main road with outside seating you have this amazing fries chicken place. Since I was alone I decided to sit at the bar and order food. It was a very quiet Sunday. The bar tender was very attentive and provided recommendations. I had the French fries (dining sauce is amazing). The fried chicken sandwich which was a nice size full of flavor and that spicy mayo packs the extra kick. My only suggestion is to toast the bread for that extra texture. The corn bread skillet, honestly don't remember what they called it but it was out of this world. I would highly recommend this place and will be back!! read more

I recently tried the Eagle for pickup and was not disappointed! Shrimp and gritz, collard greens, 1/2 a chicken, horseradish mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and spoon bread. My favorite items were the shrimp and grits and mac and cheese. The shrimp and grits were spicy! I love spicy but if you don't--- avoid those. The grits were cooked perfectly and I was satisfied with the portion size and amount of shrimp. The mac and cheese was gooey and delicious. Curly noodles, extra creamy-- yum. The chicken was great, which it should be, because it's their specialty! It came with a thin spicy honey sauce for dipping which is absolutely amazing. The collard greens were just OK for me. I typically like collard greens, but something about the flavor was just a little off for me. I was not a huge fan of the mashed potatoes or the spoon bread. The horseradish flavor is pretty strong in the mashed potatoes and I really only like horseradish in certain contexts. The spoon bread was sweet and came with a sweet buttery sauce, which I liked, but overall that isn't my type of dish. I will say that the portion sizes of all of the sides were pretty awesome for the prices. It seemed like a ton of food for only around $50 or less. It was plenty for two and there were still a lot of leftovers. I'll definitely be back to The Eagle. The cocktails on the menu sounded delicious! One of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had. I came with my family and there was 10 of us. Everything was delicious! The service was slow but there was so many of us I don't think it was really their fault. I highly recommend the BLT Chicken sandwich and get it how it comes. It's a little spicy. My boyfriend and I came here on a rainy Saturday afternoon and this meal was perfect for it! I ordered the 1/4 dark meat fried chicken and my boyfriend opted for the fried chicken sandwich. We shared the a sweet potato crock as our side, with a beer. Everything was so tasty and comforting; especially the gooey marshmallow with the sweet potatoes. Yum yum yum yum!!!!! Today was a good day and the food was even better! Decided to stop by here for a quick dinner. My friend had the 1/2 chopped salad with fried chicken. Did you know adding a side of chicken on the salad cost $6 (wowzers)! I had the fries and the friend chicken BLT. The fries were very hot and fresh when they came out and the fried chicken BLT was darn good. I mean it was so good I almost started cluckin like the chicken I was eating lol. Arrived at 3:52pm, eight minutes before opening. Door was unlocked. We entered thinking maybe we could wait inside. Nope. Scornfully told by the bartender they weren't open yet, then asked to leave until they were. Nevermind that the patio was snow covered and temps were in the low thirties. You could've greeted us, offered a menu, or let us quietly sit in the corner for those eight minutes. We passed by earlier knowing you opened at 4pm and made the effort to come back. It's ashame. We've been to several establishments in the area, so we know it's not typical customer service. We were looking forward to eating there. Instead, you lost a potential new customer. read more

Chose this restaurant based on reviews and availability. Am I glad we did!!! We had a party of 6. Very busy night in the Short North. Game day for OSU. Had we not had a reservation we would never have had the chance to experience this gem. Between us we had 4 fried chicken sandwiches, 2 grilled chicken sandwiches , shared sides of spoon bread, Mac & cheese and sweet potato crocks. The sweet potato crocks were next level! BEST lunch we've had in a long time! We were seated promptly and drinks came quick. Our waitress was super helpful and walked us through the menu since it was our first time. So good! Went to this place during the Bengals game and I was able to be seated in a booth right away. The middle is a bar area and all the surrounding seating faces the TVs so it is the perfect place to watch a game! To start I got the hush puppies which were AMAZING, cannot recommend enough. I also got the chicken BLT and the chicken was fried perfectly and the size was huge, it almost looked like two sandwiches when it came out! Big surprise for a chicken place. Son recommended as a stop for casual late night dinner. Met him there and grabbed seats at the bar. Bartender quickly waited on us and shared recommendation for dinner. Recommend Blackberry Lemonade or the Bourbon Punch (both were tasty) - note they have good choice of drafts, liquor and wines too. Bartender recommended I try the 1/4 White Chicken and it was delicious. HOWEVER, family ordered the Fried Chicken and the Fried Chicken BLT Sandwiches and they are Home Runs. Amazing and can't wait to go back and personally order that (as I only had a taste). Would also suggest ordering Mac and Cheese and Spoon Bread appetizers. Whoooooa! Ok let me say or type it again. Whoooooa! Let's start with the music. Finally someone who gets it. You are serving southern style and they are playing blues. Which is my second favorite to zydeco. Loved it and it wasn't to loud. Next, the chicken in the room. The chicken is straight southern style. Just needs a tad more crunch. It wasn't free range or what we call yard Chicken but they fried it good. It was juicy with excellent texture. Did I say they were playing blues music? GET THE DAMM CHICKEN! 1/2 or whole doesn't matter. Now the not so good part was the Mac and cheese . It was very runny. We southern folks hate runny Mac . It's like an insult. Seriously! The cheese has to be think with a little char. However that was the only downside of the entire meal. The greens were good when you add hot sauce and for me a little vinegar.. I'm not going to grade to hard on that because they vary from regions if the south. I give them a 8 for me. Can't complain.. As always is this a place I would bring a friend from out of town. Well! Was in town visiting family and they brought me here. The chicken was well flavored and the honey just made it that much better. We got Mac and cheese and sweet potato for the sides and they were decent. The food came out pretty fast and hot for it being a busy weekend night. The only thing that caught me off guard was the booths that were split into two seating spaces for small groups. I understand why this was done, it just made it feel a little cramped. We came here after Fiddler on the roof around 11:30P and were glad to see that they were still serving their full menu. We ordered the whole chicken and blackened shrimp Po Boy to share. I thought the Po Boy was excellent. The fried chicken was good as well -- not as breaded as others in the area (good thing), but also did not have the spice of say "chicken takeover". We asked our waitress half way through eating if it was correct cause as we kept eating it felt like a lot. The waitress did not even know how much we were given and had to check with the kitchen. Upon checking she realized they gave us a whole chicken, she apologized and continued to explain that she WILL be charging us. We did not eat all of the food OBVIOUSLY, and still had to pay for THEIR mistake. We have had this place on our list forever. We finally made it in here on Saturday night, later in the evening. Got caught up over drinks down the street and didn't end up making it to Eagle til around almost 10pm probably. And there was still a wait! We figured. No worries. It's so close to campus and it's football season. And there was a home game. So we got drinks at the bar and stood and a high top table outside. It was a gorgeous, cooler, fall evening and they had a huge tv outside with the games on. The food menu is small. Which, to us, means they do what they do it well. We sat down and got a super fun, down to earth, just real person waiter named Lee. He took great care of us. We ordered more drinks and got some appetizers. Omg. The appetizers were amazing. The hush puppies were incredible. Melt in your mouth. And the comeback sauce was great. The brown sugar bacon was mouthwatering. We all loved our food. Two of us got fried chicken sandwiches, one got the blackened shrimp po boy, and the other for the fried chicken blt. We got sides that we all shared because they all sounded so good. Man. Those sides. I honestly loved the apps and the sides more than my sandwich. Not to knock the sandwich at all. I freakin love Mac n Cheese. And this Mac n Cheese was DELICIOUS. I am not a fan or grits or sweet potatoes but I tried both anyways and both of them were so stinking good. The spoon bread. Wow. So moist and so sweet and so savory. And the boys loved the hot honey. I visited The Eagle in Indianapolis and since then, I've been wanting to visit again. The meal we had in Indy was inexpensive and delicious. This weekend's Columbus meal was delicious, but it cost about twice what we paid in Indy. Anyway, once I found parking, I made my way over to the restaurant where my family had already been seated. I ordered a Sam Adam's seasonal wheat beer, biscuits, butter, jelly, 1/4 dark meat chicken, and a side of greens. My daughter ordered mac n cheese and chicken, and my wife ordered chicken as well. The food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Our service was excellent. The star of the show is the chicken. It was moist, tender, and absolutely delicious. The breading is the secret. I'm not a fried chicken aficionado, but I know good chicken when I taste it. And this was great chicken! My side of collard greens was just okay. I wouldn't order those again. The mac n cheese was on point. The scratch made biscuits were awesome as were the scratch made butter and jelly. The spicy honey is good too. Omg the biscuits here are to die for. They have a sweet butter that comes with them and they seriously could not be better. I would go for those alone. While I don't like doing bad reviews, EBS let it rip when he needed which could be one reason so many miss him so much. So with his spirit guidance, here it goes. Trendy is just trendy for it sake if the food is just normal, but when some food doesn't even make it to that mark it is just a cover to draw those 20 somethings with too much spending money who know no better. Cool surroundings and lots of alcohol only goes so far. Known for its chicken, besides joining the bandwagon for spiciness, I have had much better from empty lot sellers in the neighborhoods of Detroit. $7 for a 1/4 dark not worth it. Did warm up in the microwave better than fresh from the kitchen. Chicken was at least the best part. Side of mac & cheese was subpar compared to Zingerman's Roadhouse's or Michigan Cafe at the Henry Ford Museum. The biscuits was dry and the one I took home was rock hard until I put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. The honey butter can in handy along with the blackberry jelly to make them much better. With the chicken and the 2 sides costing $16, you think they could afford brigher lighting, one table mate had to use his cellphone flash light to read the menu. Again, MUST be trendy. GREAT for dates if you don't want the person to see those dark circles under your eyes from too much night life with an early wake up for work alarm. Coke products and good service equal 1 star. I will tell you that if you like spicy, you might rate the food a star higher, but if you have eaten out a lot like us"old" folks in our 50s, not any more. read more

I've been here a few times and each time I love it more! They have great food and great vibes! They've been able to accommodate a group of friends and have great recommendations for food and drinks! The servers have always been so friendly too! Their fried chicken sandwich is one of my favorites and a great deal at only $10! Their pitcher drinks are also delicious and all of their sides are great too! I usually get the fried chicken sandwich and a side of fries! Their fry sauce is also soooooo good! I also love their outdoor seating! When the weather is good, it's a great atmosphere and great views of the short north!
