They have by far some of the best fried chicken served in a Columbus restaurant! Perfectly seasoned and not too spicy and full of flavor. The side dishes can be shareable, like the macaroni and cornbread which both reminds me of the southern traditions. The collard greens taste more like mustard greens which aren't my favorite. This is one of those places that I've been wanting to try forever and today was the day. I took the day off from work so I could explore the Short North and downtown Columbus with my better half. It didn't hurt that we were blessed with a gorgeous Spring day. Upon entry to this place they have free parking but it was full so we parked in the garage that's next door. They have a pretty big patio for outside dining but when we inquired with the hostess she said there was a wait but we could get immediate seating inside so we opted for that. We were given a menu as we waited for our server to greet us. It took awhile for him to appear. He took our drink order and it took ten minutes to arrive. I ordered unsweet iced tea and my hubby ordered the Eagle iced tea which is a cocktail. However what we both got was unsweetened ice tea. The server said they menu is short because they are known for their chicken and pulled pork and sides. We opted for half a chicken and mac and cheese and coke slaw. The cole slaw was supposed to be tart due to apple cider vinegar but we both thought it was bitter and no sense of the apple cider vinegar. I asked for sweetener for my tea but alas diners next to us had some in her purse as he never brought any. They only have Splenda anyway and I prefer Sweet and Low which he commented on passing by and I told him the other diners have it to me. It seemed like it took forever to get our food but I attributed it to being busy and maybe not staffed enough. We both loved the chicken and the mac and cheese and highly recommend them skip the slaw. I would of given five stars if the slaw was as advertised and the service was better. At the end we were given the wrong bill and all we could do is shake our heads and laugh. Seems like they still have service issues here from reading other reviews. read more

The collard greens were good, too, with a bit of vinegar tang and pieces of bacon. I also ordered a side of mac 'n cheese. Very good. Service was excellent without be cloying. Went in on Tuesday lunch and sat at the bar with Keyon (sorry if I spelled that wrong). This was my first experience here and I will be back solely because of him. Super knowledgeable about the menu and his bar and great levels of customer service. Food came out fast and was fantastic. If you're looking for a way to satisfy your fried chicken craving, you've come to the right place! It's tender, tasty and fried to perfection. And although they're known for their chicken..don't leave without trying the pork sandwich. I don't have words to describe it - just order it. You'll love it. That's all. The mac and cheese is life changing. The spoon bread is a must. And the sweet potatoes are basically dessert for dinner. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Columbus NEEDED this. My boyfriend and I ventured to The Eagle on a last minute dinner decision after reading some reviews. We were greeted and seated promptly in the back of the room where probably 6 people could sit along with us. It IS communal sitting, so if that weirds you out then that might be the only negative I can think of. I love the space. Its nicely lit both for a fun night or occasion, or for a romantic but casual dinner. The music is not so loud it is overbearing, and plays along with the general theme of the restaurant which is slightly rustic. Its gorgeous! I would like to make this place my to go if I was the kind of gal for drinks on the regular, honestly! We had a young gent greet us and let us know he wasn't our waiter but he would be glad to take our drink orders, but we kinda just threw him what we wanted for food as well because we had to leave sooner than later due to me needing to be awake at 4 am for work. About 5 minutes later our real server came up to us and THIS IS WHAT I LOVE- he CONFIRMED our order with us to the T. I am a VERY picky eater and he made SURE that he understood my demands! Thank you! I NEVER get my food right, even though its usually more SIMPLE than complicated. Not too crazy long of a wait, I got the fried chicken sandwich and fries, boyfriend got the mac and cheese and took the waiters(well the first guy) advice on adding jalapenos to it, and was gushing over how good it was! My fries were crisp and not too overdone, and my chicken! Oh my goodness. I haven't ever wanted to take a picture of my food before like I did last night. The bun was GOLDEN BRONZED to perfection on the inside so it had a little crunch and the chicken was DELICIOUS. I am SOOOO pleased with our trip to the Eagle. Overall, we will be back. I LOVE this place. Its not like some of the restaurants in the short north where you feel like its "snooty". Its a very intimate, quiet but fun atmosphere. I am in absolute LOVE. My wife and I had been to the OTR location and only had drinks so I was excited to have the food when the Columbus spot opened up. I took my out of town niece and her boyfriend, along with my daughters (6 years old) for a somewhat early dinner on a Sunday. I was a little worried about bringing my kids in here, but given the hour it worked out well and they just order Mac and Cheese off the sides menu. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip as well as the maple bacon, both of which were delicious and I would recommend. I had the pork sandwich with a side of cheddar grits, my wife had the sloppy joe and the others had friend chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious and I stole a few bites of my kids mac and cheese and it was delicious. Lots of great beers, great patio and very nice interior. Go here....it's good. read more

It was great... my only qualm is the "spoon bread" is cornbread that you are forced to eat with a spoon... the way I know spoon bread is a soupy cornbread that you have to eat with a spoon because it's very wet. Horrible service and prices are a little too high. We came in on a Sunday with 8 people and there wasn't many people in the place. They were not busy. We got seated and we were there for over 15 min and no one even recognized we were there and we were right in the front by the host station. We all got up and left and as we walked by the hostess said "we just got done with a party group ". She never even apologized, she just made excuses. Plus there were three people standing at the hostees station not doing anything the entire time we were there. I've never had a good experience at this bar and I don't know anyone that is ever has. Delicious. We split a fried chicken sandwich and got 4 sides because they all sounded too good. The fried chicken sandwich was everything you could have wanted. The bread, toppings, and chicken were all on par. Our waitress recommended a few sides so we tried them all, including the fried, mac and cheese, spoonbread, and succatosh. They were all relatively simple but had their own flair and were so so good. I would come back here anytime to try other sides and maybe some other main courses if I could ever convince myself to stay from the chicken sandwich. I used to go to the eagle often because I love their Mac n cheese, however the bad service I received at my last visit may not be worth the cheesy goodness. Not only were the three bar tenders inattentive to the 9 people including my boyfriend and I at the bar, but they were also rude. Our bartender disappeared multiple times for extended lengths of time and made us feel like we were an inconvenience when we asked to order food and for our bill. I should add that we asked for the bill after a group of three men made me feel uncomfortable while my boyfriend went to the restroom and one of the bartenders joined in with the men whispering, laughing, and pointing at me. When I said something to my bartender when I asked for the bill she sided with the other bartender and did not care, probably because she wasn't anywhere near the bar or her customers while this was happening. It's unfortunate, but this kind of service should not be tolerated even for some good Mac n cheese. read more

A quick weekend dinner at The Eagle was the perfect way to start out a cold night in the Short North! It's getting increasingly difficult to find a good, quick meal under $20 in this neighborhood, so I was really excited to see the affordable pricing of the menu here. The usual fried and cheesy goodies were shared (to those making restaurant decisions off of type of Mac n cheese - theirs is more soupy than fluffy, breadcrumbs on top, hefty portion, overall delicious) but surprisingly the kale salad was my favorite food of the night. Super fresh and great mix of flavors. The upstairs level was a little quieter than downstairs, and boats comfy booths, full bar seating and a gorgeous private room available to rent for a group dinner. We went here before going to a concert and it is awesome. I love the patio area. The food was amazing and the happy hour specials were nice. The bourbon punch is so good. It is one my new favorite cocktails. I highly recommend the house corn nuts and the brown sugar bacon. We had the fried chicken sandwich and it was one of the best sandwiches I have had. Went here on a Sunday for a late lunch with the family. We did not have a wait, and overall it looked as if most people got seated immediately. Good family atmosphere, they had kids menus and crayons. From the looks I was not expecting it to be kid friendly, but it really was! The fried chicken seems to be their specialty, but I don't eat meat so cannot comment on that (but everyone at our table loved it). There are several options for vegetarians: I had a half kale salad and a side of sweet potatoes. Both were great! It was all very filling as the sides are family style, so I shared mine and had some of my family's. The spoon bread was great, and so were the grits! I would recommend all of the above. Overall not a ton of entree options for the non meat eater, but there are so many sides you can make an awesome meal of it! read more

Not because of anything but the fact it looked familiar. We had visited the Cincinnati location & was not at all impressed. The food was ok but nothing I'd go out of my way to eat again (sorry Cincinnati... Just being honest) Well... We we're already here so I guess we'll eat. SO GLAD WE DID!!! Food is fantastic, the chicken is juicy and flavourful, spoonbread (cornbread) is great, get extra maple butter, skip the blackberry jam with the biscuits and get extra honey butter, mac and cheese is okay but don't expect southern style, the only issue is the service. I have tried calling them three days in a row at different times (all within business hours) and no answer. Yesterday at 8:20, no answer. Today at 6:30, no answer but ubereats was available. One time ubereats was unavailable but they were not only open but pretty slow when I came in. I called one time to ask when they'd stop accepting ubereats orders and the girl on the phone said "idk probably in an hour". I'm just super confused about when they're supposed to be open and figured I'd warn people to take their business hours with a huge grain of salt so you don't drive all the way there for no reason. read more

The Eagle has delicious food and drinks - so many types of bourbon and whiskey to choose from. We had just returned from the Bourbon Trail so were surprised to find some of our favorites. Chicken was fabulous. Mac and cheese was good, but a bit heavy on the garlic which my husband loved. I would have preferred a non-garlic option. Our server was able to help me create a grapefruit cocktail that I enjoyed and my husband enjoyed his Angel's Envy which is not easy to find in Columbus. We are both a little introverted so only able to give a 4 as we don't enjoy the shared picnic table seating options available there. read more
