Thee best fried chicken I've had from a restaurant in a very long time. My friends and I decided on getting different sides (Mac and cheese, greens, sweet potato crock, spoon cornbread) so we could sample most of the menu. Everything was well seasoned and between the three of us, there was enough sides left for someone to take home for a meal. It is very crowded and you sit at long tables with other patrons. Would not recommend this restaurant. Read great reviews about the food and was totally let down. Made a reservation for a Friday. As we waited the hostess was honest and told us they gave our table away. 30 minute wait. Comped us an appetizer for the trouble. They sat us at what looked like a full booth that had literally been cut in half. Plastic partition in the middle. Table must have been cut too. Rocked and tipped violently the whole time. Was served a mule in a highball glass. The Eagle Tea was great. Queso dip appetizer was gritty. Ordered the 1/4 chicken. Very dark in color and bland. The menu had twists to traditional dishes that were not complimentary. Kale salad was chewy to the point of being rubbery. The cheese grits were very bad. The mash and gravy was passable. Stopped in after a few happy hour drinks and had a little wait for a table for 5 on a Friday night, but still got in pretty quickly. We ordered a number of items- chicken sandwich, fish sandwiches, po-boy, most of the sides to share and sample, and the shrimp & grits which was a special that night. Such a fabulous experience! Loved the atmosphere of this place. Great drinks for sweet happy hour prices. Met here with some friends during the holidays and enjoyed the decorations and great staff. The Eagle Short North is a must visit restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. You will not be disappointed by the food, from the outstanding chicken to the appetizing sides including the fries, grits, cornbread and greens. The bourbon punch is a must. The atmosphere is open and welcoming and the room designated for parties allows for privacy without making you feel completely secluded from everything. The staff are professional, personable and attentive to your needs. They make you feel at home without being at home. More then finger licking good! I have been here 3 times and each time the food and service has been excellent. The food is amazing. FULL OF FLAVOR! I typically order chicken mac and cheese corn bread greens grits sweet potatoes and kale salad. I know a lot of food lol. I always come with at least three people. Omg the hot honey make me wanna take it home and try to duplicate it lol. The only issue is the portion size for the sides. They run too small and only feed two maybe two and a half. They should include different sizes medium and large. Also they need a better family combo meal because the only option is around 100 bucks. But I'll be back b caus the food is soooo good read more

5:450m Wed. No crowd - we ordered the 1/4 fried chicken one of us did all dark one ordered white meat. Also did the man n cheese and the corn bread. The chicken was ok - it was lukewarm and truthfully looked like it had been cooked two days ago. The were shrunken and withered. The skin wasn't even warm but was crunchy. Mac n cheese was ok but not anything I'd wait around for and the cornbread would have been great had it not been baked and rewarmed which dried it out to a crumble. So it wasn't horrible but also not good. Nothing exciting about the food. The server emphasized-they were a scratch kitchen but she didn't say if it was cooked yesterday or when we ordered. I love coming to this bar to eat dinner before going out for drinks. It's convenient location is perfect to meet up with a group of friends to grab some food then head out. I can't get past the sides. I like the chicken, love it with the Tabasco honey, but my favorite thing here is the succotash, the biscuits and jam, the mac & cheese, the greens. This place is so good. This has got to be the best Soul Food Restaurant in Columbus Ohio. Service was good and the atmosphere was good too. It seemed like they catered to the crowd as I noticed the music changed to soulful music from something else. I came from California and had the 1/4 Chicken, now the chicken was so moist it and seasoned so well I could not believe it. My hats off to the Chef and our waiter. Visited here for lunch. I had a half chopped salad and it was REALLY good - very fulfilling for a salad. Split the Mac and cheese with my husband as a side. I would say the Mac was just okay and I had expected it to be better given their focus on southern classics. Their spoon bread and Mac and cheese are also a must try... What can I say about The Eagle that I haven't said before on their other locations? To me it's one of the best small chains for Ohio that make one of the best chickens with a honey sauce as a side for it that you can't get anywhere else. One of the juiciest chickens you'll ever have in your life. The honeys that they give you for the chicken which I never would've thought I would be the kind of person wanting to put honey on my chicken but it is phenomenal. And their mac & cheese is just so out there and I love it because so many people will say breadcrumbs don't belong in mac & cheese but I say otherwise. I don't really drink so I can't see much on their drinks and stuff like that but I will say I do always get a sweet tea when I'm here and always the perfect sweet tea. I really like this location because the area was in was just a very up-and-coming area very fun and the building was a great outdoor sitting area also for those beautiful summer days. The staff here was very polite and very friendly and helpful on asking if I need anything when I was eating and done eating. The waiter told me in a apologetic tone the only special was miller canned beer for $3 (hello its the short north - everyone has a happy hour). Plus side: said plain can of beer was served in a chilled mug. Okay so lets get some food, we were pointed to the fried chicken as their specialty. It was good which in my opinion fried chicken isn't hard to make taste good or something special to come across. Didn't change life but filled me up for around $10 with some shared sides. I read this terrible article one of the local news stations posted on Facebook about the best fried chicken in Columbus. I didn't trust it bc it contained KFC and Popeye's, so I read the comments. I have been on the hunt for a good place, I saw that The Eagle was mentioned quite a few times, decided to check it out. This is when I discover that hipsters can't be trusted to tell me where to spend my money. We ordered the appetizer of the candied bacon ($5), a 1/2 chicken; breast, thigh, leg and wing.- $11. Sides; cole slaw, sweet potatoes and spoon bread ($3, $5, $5). The bacon was good, it just lacked heat, but I still very much enjoyed it. The chicken came out and we were legitimately worried that someone killed an eagle to serve us. This chicken was scrawny. I ate a thigh and the skin was still quite rubbery, not very crispy at all. I ate part of the breast and the meat was juicy had more of the crispy bits. Overall, 3 good bites. The flavor just was so lacking, after being told about how it was brined 24 hours, I guess I just expected more. I enjoyed the honey served with the chicken, though my partner did not. I was very much looking forward to the sweet potatoes, and they were a HUGE letdown. They were super thick, clumpy and old looking. The cole slaw was so awkwardly chopped, the cabbage was large and the sauce lacked any sort of flavor. I honestly couldn't tell you if it was a vinegar based or creamy cole slaw, that's how confusing eating this dish was. The absolute saving grace was the spoon bread. It was delicious, moist, and not too sweet. The waitress was very nice, but I felt the service was overall lackadaisical. read more

They sat us right away on a Saturday night. The fried chicken was out of this world. Perfectly breaded and not greasy. Just perfect. The spicy honey on the side is the perfect addition. The food was super satisfying! I appreciate a smaller menu because it likely means each dish is prepared with more care. The bartender was friendly and even provided suggestions on other beers to try and what grocery carries them. How nice! Service is above all most important in my book. First time was with a huge group that was kind of an open house for a friend in town, and the servers were totally cool with the in-and-out nature of it, and kept all the tabs in order. During the tough time of Covid restrictions The Eagle has made adjustments in a discrete manner as to not take away from the experience of their awesome establishment.
