Really bad experience with Wendy the bartender... the bartender was rude uninviting and we left after one appetizer

I went here last night with about 10 colleagues while in town on business. At various points I sampled the fried chicken, the corn bread fritters, the mac & cheese, the corn bread fritters, and the bacon appetizer. If you "watch what you eat", then you'll look at all of these and know this isn't the kind of fare you should be eating every day. However, if you're going to treat yourself, you could do a lot worse than the Eagle. The fried chicken is some of the best I've had in a long time. I'd never even heard of cornbread fritters, but now I'm wishing I had the recipe. And if -- like I did -- you're wondering how bacon could be an appetizer on its own, just give it a taste. We all split a couple of orders and were tearing at it like a pack of wolves. Atmosphere is unpretentious but not like a dive. Staff are professional and friendly. We had a big group, so the manager came out to personally greet us and make sure we were having a good time. Drinks and beer selection was pretty good, too, although you might want to order an upgrade on the well liquor they use. read more

I've eaten at this place quite a few times and ordered off of UberEats. It is awesome to see such a great restaurant on that app to order take out. Their chicken is great with just the right amount of spice. Their Mac and cheese is creamy with crunchy breadcrumbs on top. I've also had their biscuits which are great with the honey butter, jam or both on them. I've also had the coleslaw which is crunchy and not soggy, the exact way I like it. The place has so much potential, but honestly it's a bar that happens to sell 10ish food items. They're not half bad, but you'd probably be better off going to the other half a dozen restaurants within walking distance. They do have a cool large patio which is nice and a plus if you want to take your toddler to the Short North for a quick bite. Their beer menu does have some cool rotating drafts on it. The decor and the utilization of space is a huge step.up.from La Fogata and so is the menu!! I visited with some frie ds at the soft opening and was able to.try a bit of everything and was not disappointed by anything I had! My favorite was the candied maple bacon which has a slight kick to it. Definitely excited for another yummy option in the Short North! read more

Overall a quality spot. If your looking for good southern comfort food in the 614 then you've come to the right place. The chicken is excellent and so is the Mac and cheese. The atmosphere is good, nice patio for warmer weather. And if you get a chance, check out the upstairs. It's a pretty cool space hidden away. I give it 3 out of 5 because the staff, although very nice, could use some direction and training. Every time I'm in there they just don't seem to have the attentiveness, knowledge of the menu, and most important timing. I will go back & would recommend this place to anyone wanting southern fair. The food was excellent! We started with the hush puppies and my only complaint was there was too few at 6. Our main course is was half a chicken between me and the wife and then the fries, collards and mac & cheese as our sides. The chicken was lightly friend but the spicy honey sauce quickly sneaks up on you with a perfect amount of heat. Our service was quick to for a Friday night and we were taken care of by Dominic who knew the menu and explained everything to us as it was our first time. This place surprised me! The chicken is seasoned very well and the honey hot sauce compliments it very well also. The flavor of the Mac and cheese is great, but can be a little runny some days, most days very good. Not a fan of the skillet bread, very dry probably over cooked. Great location, good service, just okay food. Parking is convenient at the Hubbard Garage. Hostess was a little off-putting when we gave our name. Fortunately, our 30 minute wait was more like 15. Ordered the blackened shrimp po'boy with fries and the fried chicken sandwich with horseradish mashed potatoes. Both sandwiches were just meh'. The fried chicken sandwich was bland. Their pickles are homemade but I wouldn't call them pickles. Just weakly flavored cucumbers. The homemade slaw and soggy chicken rounded out an unremarkable sandwich. I am not a huge fan of fired chicken, but The Eagle's fried chicken is something I actually really enjoy! Although, it is the sides that keep my coming back and what makes this review five stars. I love that the sides are so large and you can share with multiple people, or order multiple for yourself and have leftover for lunch the next day! The Mac and cheese, sweet potato crock, and mashed potatoes are my favorite sides. There is a great beer selection that contains multiple local brews. Very unique restaurant with an awesome outdoor seating. The only negative, is when its busy (which is almost always) there is not much space to wait. BEST friend chicken ever! We came here as a stop on our cross county trip. Didn't have much of an expectation but man it was good! Service was ok, and the collard greens lacked flavor so wouldn't recommend the collard greens. However, the rest of the food was delicious. The chicken was the show stopper.
