I was very pleased with this place. But let's start out with the first time I went here. It was on a weekend so I should have known better then to try and go anywhere in the Short North without a reservation. Needless to say it was a 45 minute wait. Decided not to stay. Now this second time around was this past Tuesday night. Took my girlfriend here for dinner and we loved it. Very good food, our Captain and cokes that we ordered where good but maybe to strong for my girl lol. Service was fast and the waiter that we had was very attentive. Wow! Visiting from out of town and so glad we were able to catch this great new restaurant before we left. If we lived here, we would be regulars. Amazing venue with spacious indoor and outdoor seating. Service was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the night. We ordered: Mac n Cheese: DELICIOUS (and it has a slightly spicy kick) and easily shareable Dark Meat Chicken: Really good! Country Salad: I ordered the half size and it was a perfect portion for one! Light, refreshing, and a great accompaniment to some of the heavier items on the menu. This place was great for southern food. First thing to note is that they have an upstairs and a downstairs and during the summer, upstairs is HOT plus you share a table with strangers. Needless to say we sat downstairs at the bar where it was much cooler. The bartender was very attentive. We ordered the Mac and cheese which was amazing, the spoonbread which was also amazing, and fried chicken. It was wonderful. It is a little pricey but the food is delicious and worth it. I love coming here for Friday happy hour! This place has a great location, great food, and great bartenders (especially Connor with the good hair). My favorite food on the menu is by far the Mac and cheese. Even though it's a "side" the portion is usually enough to fill me up. The fried chicken is also amazing and whatever aioli they serve with the fries is so good too. They also have a great liquor and beer selection. I always sit at the bar and the service is pretty quick no matter who is working. I had to knock a star off though because the manager or owner or someone high up who knew my friends came up to us and bought us shots (didn't ask for them) and then left and said we had to pay for them lol who does that?! Luckily the bartender knew I wasn't about that tequila life (I didn't even do the shot) and didn't make me pay, otherwise I probably would be too mad to come back and smash some great Mac and cheese! read more

As a Cincinnatian, I knew about The Eagle long before it made its way to Columbus. While I've tasted its tender chicken goodness at various events in Cincinnati, I never actually had a chance to eat in the OTR restaurant - mostly due to the fact it's always been a 3-4 hour wait since it open. Alas, The Eagle Short North answered my prayers and accepts reservations! Hashtag blessed. The ONE complaint I have: We made a reservation for 8 at 8:30 on a Saturday evening. We arrived on time and were told they were waiting for the previous party to leave. ONE HOUR LATER, they left and we were seated at 9:30. While it wasn't ideal, the servers were very accommodating and served us drinks while we waited. All that aside, the rest of our experience was AWESOME. The space is super cool and rustic. It's actually two stories, unlike the OTR location, and they sat us in our our private room with a TV - perfect for watching the Jackets game, or the NFL playoffs if you're like me and don't care about hockey. :) The food was just as amazing as everyone in Cincy have raved about. I ordered the 1/4 white meat chicken (which was was extremely flavorful and tender) and obviously the mac and cheese, which was kind of what I imagine heaven tasting like. While we were delayed an hour in our seating, the servers made up for it and got us our food quickly - we ordered, ate and paid within an hour. We came with a group of 8 people and decided to order and share a bunch of sides/appetizers with everyone as well as share an entree with our spouse. So we got to try a BUNCH of different things (Sweet Potatoes, Artichoke dip, Candied Bacon, Corn Bread, Rolls, Mashed Potatoes, etc.) and it was all super delicious. A great comfort food place! Came here after a MLS soccer game and were a bit shocked of how busy it was. It's in the college area so you'll find a high number of college students around. The atmosphere is great to chill outside in the patio and service was pretty quick with taking our order and bringing it out. Careful with the drunken population, they may get a bit intense on a Saturday night. Had a Blackened shrimp po'boy with fries and the server threw in some mac & cheese 'cause the fries were late. I really want to like this place. I'm from the south, I love southern comfort food. Love fried chicken. The staff is super nice. The location is awesome. BUT!! It was hands down the saltiest food I've ever had in my life. And I'm not a low sodium person. I tend to over salt my food. This was next level salt. I've had three awful migraines in my life, they were all from huge amounts of MSG. I don't know if they use MSG but I don't think it matters with the amount of salt they use. We ordered: Apps: brown sugar bacon was the least salty dish we had the entire night... But still salty. The corn nuts are the saltiest things on the planet. It's like eating a big spoonful of Lawery's seasoning salt. Dinner: 1/4 fried chicken, white meat Awesome. Not the best but in the top 10 best fried chicken I've had. They use a spicy honey, which to me taste salty!!! (I prefer a honey and balsamic vinegar drizzle.) Side dish: Collards I'm from the south, love collards. But these were too salty and they cook them in vinegar. I'm more into a drizzle of vinegar on top after prepared. The vinegar made the broth taste kinda like bile. Went to this place for lunch while visiting family in Columbus. We sat outside which I highly recommend if the weather is nice, they let us have our dog with us at the table and even brought her a water bowl. I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich, it was amazing! I have been waiting a long time to eat at this restaurant. The last time I tried to visit the Indianapolis locations there was issue. I will start by saying I've had a A LOT of fried chicken and I cook it very well. I give this restaurant five stars because the food is like many people have said amazing. Unpopular opinion though their bone in chicken is fairly basic and average in taste to me. It pairs well with the spicy honey but I might have let the reviews hype it up way too much. That being said I ordered he brown sugar bacon which was absolutely delicious. I also go the side Mac and cheese with bacon and a fried cut up chicken breast. Let me start by saying the fried chicken breast is where it's at in this restaurant. It's full of flavor and OH MY GOODNESS (my bf got the fried chicken sandwich and let me try his spicy mayo) pairing the fried chicken breast with the spicy mayo is heaven. I even mixed a little into my mac and cheese happiness our server was so kind and patient with us as well. Service was amazing overall. Another server saw that my bf looked like he was finished and offered him a togo box. All together I'd love to experience this delicious restaurant again. Had a 40-minute wait which isn't a bad thing when you can go exploring in Short North. We got our preferred seating on the patio. Got to try: Fried chicken (white meat) - warm chicken, not dry. Very tasty! Cornbread skillet - you have to order the sides separate but they come in good sized sharing portions. This was yum! Homemade biscuits - you get three in an order, comes with butter and preserves. It was like getting a hug from your grandma. Candied bacon - this was a bit dry and cold. Maybe a fresh batch would have been different Service was A+. It was super busy but our waitress still managed to frequent our table and make sure we were taken care of. Will revisit. read more

A welcome addition to the short north. Restaurants, gastropubs, taprooms... so many trendy spots have been popping up seemingly overnight, and frankly, it's getting pretty hard to distinguish one place from another. The Eagle does all the same things when you get down to it, but separates itself by doing it all just a bit better (great patio space, great indoor space, lots of quality beer and liquor options, efficient service, etc). Honestly, it's not the best chicken I've ever had--as another reviewer mentioned, if you're hoping for some crunch fried chicken, this will disappoint. It's tender and flavorful and generally yummy... just not with the crunch factor I'd expect of southern fried chicken (for comparison, I recently had the pleasure of eating at Gus's in Memphis, and that chicken was super crispy and fresh from the fryer). Chicken aside, GET THE SIDES. In particular, the greens were some of the best I've ever had. Didn't get to try all of them tho, which is why I'll be going back asap. read more

I order my order from uber Eats when I got it it was the wrong thing called to have it fixed they said they were gonna replace it with the correct order 2 hours after my original order still not food the issue wasn't uber it was the restaurant having people who are too high to be working in the back to realize that a one sandwich wasn't my order of a whole chicken spoon bread and corn nuts.... needless to say I still don't have my food..... Wow, everything it should have been. New spot. Fried chicken for the win. Could not be happier.

Let's dive right into it, shall we? First, with the seating. They have booths, but apparently it's a "shared seating" situation? There's not room in a booth for just your party if it's only two people. It's designed to have you with other parties. Weird. So I sit at the bar with my party. Sure, no problem. Second cause of concern were the drinks. I quickly came to discover (well after the fact) that this establishment is more of a whiskey, chicken and beer joint. So margaritas aren't necessarily their strong suit. No Jose, 1800 or Patrón for starters--which absolutely raised an eyebrow. But then the sour mix was way too tart. I tried one of their specials (Bourbon Punch, which has sour mix) and it overpowered the Old Forrester. I swapped it out and got an Angry Orchard. I also asked for a lemonade, which was never brought and was only talked about when we asked for to-go boxes and the bartender realized at that point that he'd never brought it over. Thirdly, we get our food (open faced Sloppy Joe and fries for me). The person I was with got the Blackened Shrimp Po Boy w/Fries. The fries come with an aioli sauce, which is fine. But there seemed to be some confusion and a long conversation between the bar back and the food runner about what other sauces were available when questioned. At this point, we were turned off by the experience and asked for our checks and some boxes. The one saving grace (aside from me and my friends conversation) was another bartender (David) who asked us about our experience. We told him, particularly about the drinks, and he made us a margarita that finally gave us a sigh of relief from this evenings dinner. I may not come back to the restaurant, but if I want a good margarita, I'll look for David. read more

I always get the fried chicken and mac + cheese, last time I was there I got the succotash which was also very good--a "healthier" alternative to the fries I usually get as well. Service is a little lacking on the weekends since it's so busy, but understandably so. Patio is very open and nice to sit out on on a sunny evening. read more
