I'm shocked I hadn't left a review here before--it was one of my favorite spots this summer! Two parts of the review: Dinner time/restaurant: the fried chicken is great, but the honey with Tobasco is to die for. Biscuits were mediocre but grits were Southern boyfriend-approved (and my first time trying them, yum). Seating can be communal which can get weird on occasion, but it was nice in our case. Drinks/nighttime: Hands down one of my favorite summer spots. Any beer tastes better outside on a nice night. A few friends really like the bourbon punch (just not a bourbon person, but it's pretty), but I enjoy their beer selection--I tried Left Coast Tangerine here for the first time and I'm obsessed (think fancy blue moon). The front outdoor area is perfect for casual drinks because the "tables" are for standing. I definitely wouldn't want to eat standing, but it's nice for the evening. Servers and bartenders are great--last time I was there, we ordered before menus arrived and our funny server joked with us a little bit. It feels really welcoming and the staff are great. read more

This place is complete trash. We're were simply thrown out for the reason of VAPING which is allowed in most bars in Ohio. My boyfriend did not notice that I was vaping as the "mgr" tapped on his shoulder and said you need to leave because of this. He threatened to call the police and took our PAID for drinks in turn. I just want to start this off with I never do reviews but I had to leave one after the service I had the other day. I was immediately comfortable with my server and he made me laugh instantly. the food was absolutely flawless and you seriously cannot leave here without getting their lemonade cocktail. I have become obsessed with fried chicken after coming to Columbus. My #friedchickenvisits in the last 3 years since moving to ohio has far surpassed my #inlifetime back in california. I mean, for fast foodie afternoons I go for Raising Canes. For Wings I go to Harrisons. For Hot chicken you'll find me at Hot chicken takeover (everyweekend). And sometimes for something a little fancier and a little different, I find myself at the Eagle. The spices and the crunch of this chicken is amazing! I have a thing for sweet/savory so I love dousing the chicken in the hot maple syrup. I've also become fond of the mac and cheese and the grits. Wash it all down with a beer, while chilling on their awesome patio with the wonderful commotion that is the short north singing in the background? Sounds perfect to me. read more

amazing food, amazing service, and amazing atmosphere!! this restaurant/bar is a MUST GO in columbus oh. they have everything for everyone here. i would definitely recommend getting their fried chicken along with their mac and cheese! they have a wide variety of beers and their cocktails can also be sold by the pitcher! there is both indoor and outdoor seating, leashed pets are allowed outside, and there is plenty of seating. our server was very attentive and on point! definitely will be coming back, it was a great experience. read more

Fried chicken here is *amazing*. My husband and I decided to pop in for brunch since that's what we were craving, and with some recommendations from our waiter, we ordered a half chicken, the pickled country vegetables, sugar bacon, and coleslaw. We probably could've done without the coleslaw (super underwhelming), but the everything else was superb! Our pickled veggies served as a nice tart contrast to the sweet and savory bacon (I'm not usually a fan of bacon, but this was realllllly good bacon - the sugar really adds to it) vs the juicy and tender chicken. I don't know if the spicy honey really added anything to the chicken (it was different for sure, but not necessarily superior), but the chicken itself gets a standing ovation. A step above other American-style fried chicken places I've frequented around here. Our waiter was very attentive and great about anticipating our needs (refilling drinks, checking on food, etc), and his recommendations for the meal were on point! The Eagle is a great spot for a casual sit down for comfort food, or drinks on the patio. Their fried chicken is tasty; a nice crispy skin that's a little salty and juicy meat. The spoon bread is a fantastic side, as well as the mac and cheese. I would opt to get the fried chicken itself vs. the chicken sandwich. The fried chicken is prepared better than the chicken on the sandwich and isn't drowned in toppings. If you're looking to enjoy the weather, they have the most underutilized outdoor patio in the Short North. Tons of seating and servers are happy to do just drinks. Best part of all - the wait is nothing compared to The Eagle in Cincinnati! read more

I keep going back and forth between 4 and 5 stars, but ultimately the food is so good that I can't give it 4. But do know there's a huge asterisk beside those stars. So let me just get it out there: Everyone at The Eagle has been extremely kind and caring, but there have been big misses on the service end. The first time we came here, our server was very slow throughout the evening. He seemed timid and not confident. Everything just took longer than necessary. On our second visit, our server was fabulous the entire night until it came time to pay... She accidentally charged our meal to our friend's card. We explained what happened, and then she disappeared for 30 minutes. No exaggeration. When she finally reappeared, she had charged the wrong amount on each of our cards. She disappeared again. When she returned with the correct charges, my friend asked for a to-go box for the third time. I'm not sure where the train went off the tracks, but this experience went south really quickly. Other things you should watch out for: -There's a 95% chance of a wait. -There are no reservations or call-ahead seating. THAT FOOD THO... Y'all, it's so good. I can't eat the fried chicken, but if you can, DO IT. All my friends have loved it. I'm just thrilled there are plenty of delicious choices for me. I usually get a roasted chicken salad that doesn't make me even the least bit sad that I'm not eating fried chicken. It's chock full of dates, corn, cheese, and other goodies. Then I share some of the fantastic southern sides, like: collard greens, sweet potatoes with marshmallows in a crock, fries and aioli, and spicy grits. There are only a handful of places in Cbus that know how to properly cook grits, and The Eagle is one of them. For drinks, there are so many choices! Loads of beer, cider, and cocktails, and from-scratch sweet tea and lemonade. Big wins in the beverage dept. The interior here is gorgeous! I love how everything looks. It's very comfortable but still special and just the right upscale touches. And the patio is spectacular! I love all the community seating, which makes grabbing a seat much quicker than waiting for one inside. A+ remodel here. Considering the former tenant, The Eagle is a 1000% upgrade. I am so happy this Cincy fave has brought their delicious food to the Short North, and I really hope they get their service issues together to truly elevate the experience here. Oh, and if The Eagle wants to make me their bestie, figure out how to make gf fried chicken. I will legit pay whatever you want and wait as long as necessary. C'mon Eagle, be a dream maker. This was my third visit to the Eagle probably the least favorite experience. Took my mother for lunch, first walking in two ladies were at hostess stand speaking to some woman that worked at the restaurant and a man was standing in the host station, NO ONE acknowledged us as we stood there *blank stare* make eye contact w/ the bartender and ask should we seat over selves, he says no, they'll get you, still NO ONE AT THE HOSTESS STAND ACKNOWLEDGES US. Once their convo is finished, the man then ask us how many, so you notice us now *confused* We are seated, it was damn near pretty empty, mid friday afternoon. Guess who our serve was, the same man who stood in at the hostess station and did not acknowledge our presence, later learned from the receipt his name is Andreas. Order the fried chicken sandwich, 1/4 white chicken, mac & cheese, collards and spoon bread. The mac & cheese was running and (tasted) half done, the collards were a bit heavy on the vinegar. Black folks don't generally cook our greens w/ vinegar, we may add it in after, but whatever works *shoulder shrug* I was more so disappointed with the lack of customer service as i've been here when the place has been jumping, wall to wall packed and received better service. read more

I'm thinking this was really pretty sweet when they opened up in OTR back in the day, but this place in the Short North seems oh so 2005. Wow, another fried chicken joint. Yippee. And just like its sister concept, Bakersfield, they act like they invented this crap. yadint. I mean, congratulations on having a nice beer selection, like everybody else in the city. I live in Florida and was told about this place by some friends that lives here. Oh how good it is and how it's a nice place. Well I guess it's not for everyone because it was the worse place I've been since in Ohio which me and my husband come here every three months to see his family. As you can see we didn't order much the staff was rude never spoke to us other then taking our order. Then once we got the food we never seen anyone until we went to find them to get our check. After calling the manager this morning it was like she was just sweeping it under the rug. I don't know how y'all do things up North but I run a business myself and that's not customer service at all. I'm sorry but in the South you make sure you please the customer no matter if you have to bend over backwards. If your not a people person find a different job. Apologies for a meh review, but that's exactly what I felt like when I ate here. Just meh. Perhaps I had been over-hyping this place in my head because of the excellent reviews, but I had super high expectations and it kind of fell short. Here are my notes: - I think I'm solidly in the super crispy fried chicken camp (a la Hot Chicken/Mya's). To put it mildly, I was disappointed in the very un-crispy chicken. - The roux for the cheesy kale dip (basically glorified spin dip) was superrrr floury. Come on, even I can make a better roux than that. - The service was decent. However, it's a personal pet peeve of mine when a hipster-ey restaurant has TONS of canned/bottled/draft beer and things rotate so much that the server has no idea what's actually available. I asked for three different types of beer (nothing super peculiar, just some pilsners + kolsches) and the server had to dutifully go back to the bartender to ask every time if that particular beer was available. Annoying (though nice of the server). - The booths are for tall people. At five foot, I literally had to climb up the chairs in the booths. Basically, if you're off work and you wore a pencil skirt, don't go. It's super stressful clamoring up the chairs. - I wish I had the fried chicken sandy, because a co-diner did and it looked amazing. The chicken looked appropriately crispy. - The mac and cheese was the highlight of my meal, if that says anything. I liked the biscuits, but they were served with a homemade jam which had too many seeds and basically left an unpleasant, dry taste in my mouth. read more

I heard my cousin rave on about this place and how amazing it was. There are so many good reviews I had to try it. Well, in my opinion it is over hyped. Pretty good but no where near amazing. I could've enjoyed it as much as Popeyes. The best fried chicken I had was of course in Louisiana but we can't really beat that here since that is their signature. The chicken reminds me of KFC but with a bit more flavor and crisp, the honey is just mixed with Frank's red hot sauce. Other than the chicken, I tried their brown sugar bacon which was disappointing. I expected it to be hot but it was kind of cold and really sweet, didn't taste much cayenne pepper to balance it out. I love side dishes that come in skillets. Had the mac and cheese which wasn't bad. Overall, decent place for decent prices but not impressed. read more

Whenever I visit Columbus, The Eagle is a necessary stop on my way through the city. They are mostly known for their fried chicken (and who doesn't love fried chicken?!) but everything else they serve is wonderful too. They have inside seating, but I prefer their outdoor patio, even though you sometimes share the long tables with other guests. If you do go, I highly recommend the fried chicken sandwich, which consists of flavorful white meat topped with coleslaw, encased in fluffy bread, and garnished with a couple of pickles... and the mashed potatoes (seriously, they are incredible), the mac n cheese... the caramelized bacon...basically everything. The sides are actually pretty large, so I'd recommend checking out the photos on Yelp if you're ordering something for yourself. I made the mistake (but was it really?) of getting two and there were a lot of leftovers. Service is quick and super friendly. It's a great place to go with friends or family for a casual lunch or dinner, and then spend the rest of the day shopping the fun boutiques in the area. I can't wait to come back. read more

I'm a big fan of The Eagle, and I don't even eat chicken. As a vegetarian, I'd heard that fried chicken is the star here, but to my delight, I found that the many other options available are so delicious that nearly anyone can find something to love. The mac and cheese might be my favorite I've had in Columbus. It's so rich and creamy and the garlic breadcrumbs on top are the perfect touch. It was to die for! I'd come back here just for that. The coleslaw and mashed potatoes also got favorable reviews. The salads were also a pleasant surprise! The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. As for the chicken, I can't speak for it myself, but members of my group loved it, especially with the honey. The drink selection was plentiful and the service was quick, although we did come early to beat the dinner rush. We ate on the patio, which had a great atmosphere - perfect for people-watching and enjoying the sunshine. Can't wait to come back and try more of the sides/starters - though honestly, I'll probably just end up getting more mac and cheese! read more

The atmosphere is laid back and the service at the bar was good, but if I would have known how good the food was... On my second visit, I got a to-go order and let me tell you... For two people we ordered a half chicken, a side of mac & cheese, collards, and spoon bread, which was the perfect amount of food. EVERYTHING was so good. I'm still dreaming about the chicken with the spicy honey on the side. I legit licked the mac & cheese container when it was gone. I don't even have photos of the food because it was gone that fast. Stopped here after a walk with the dogs one day. It has a nice patio with large tables to accommodate good size parties. For lunch we tried the fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw. The chicken was perfectly cooked to a golden, crispy, and juicy perfection. I would definitely recommend to a friend and go back again for. The southern greens & artichoke dip was not my favorite. It was definitely good in flavor I just feel as if the greens needed to be cooked longer before they were put in the dip. They were just too tough in my opinion. The mac & cheese was made well, no complaints there it was a large portion and very flavorful. I specifically was the one who chose the cornbread. I was so excited and this cornbread left me so sad. Their presentation was cute it came in a mini cast iron skillet. But the cornbread itself was very dry and lackluster. The Bloody Mary was excellent, fun and fully of goodies to snack on. My main bitterness with the place was our waiter that day. He rarely came to the table to ask if we needed anything. I had to steal my friends water just because we could not find them for a refill. I then had to go find him for the check and boxes where he was just standing chatting with the bartender. I don't mind someone chatting with their coworkers but they should make sure their customers are taken care of as well. We saw the servers of the other people at the patio many times coming to their tables. I would love to come back here and try some more food, they have an excellent menu.m read more

I've had great service every time I've been. The food...prepare for some light reading because it's really that good. To start with, the fried chicken is juicy and crispy. Packed with flavor. Definitely not dripping in grease. Just a perfect amount of spice to it. The hot honey that accompanies it really adds on the perfect sweetness and spice to it. The mac and cheese it to die for. Perfect amount of crunch on top. Perfect creaminess that really make it comfort food. The greens are cooked perfectly. Not boiled beyond all recognition and still have some crunch to them. The sweet potatoes are another side. Not boiled to mush and not loaded with sugar. The biscuits are amazing, as well. If you're looking for a more compact meal, their fried chicken sandwich is a great option. It's not loaded with sauce that makes the bread soggy. Definitely a great lunch or dinner option. read more
