This is one of my favorite places to get a meal in the Short North. I've never had a cocktail here but they have a great beer selection. The interior is classy but comfortable. It's always lively no matter when you go, so expect a wait. The menu is small, keeping fried chicken as the focus. I've never done anything but the fried chicken with sides, the sandwiches look great too. The fried chicken is crispy and not greasy, and served with hot honey. This review is based purely off the one night that my girlfriend and I went last week. We were in the Short North and were looking for a new place to try for dinner. We had never been to The Eagle before and decided to give it a try. We were seated immediately on the patio, which was great for a Thursday night at 7pm (please keep that time in mind). We ordered our drinks and didn't see our server for another half hour before our drinks were brought, even then he brought my girlfriend a glass of water and not her beer. He explained that some of the staff had called off and he was working the patio by himself. We felt for him, but it took another forty minutes to get our food order. At that point, we considered paying for our drinks and leaving for another restaurant. Thankfully our food didn't take a long time, but by the time it came our appetites were mostly gone. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and she ordered the pork belly sandwich, we split an order of fries. The fries were okay, but over seasoned. The sandwiches were good, but nothing special. I was really looking forward to this place considering I heard they had great fried chicken, but was disappointed. It was 10pm by the time we left and I wish we had gone somewhere else. If you want good fried chicken in Columbus, go to Hot Chicken Takeover. It doesn't help that most of the Short North is under construction and not only is parking hard, but where the restaurant next door was is now part of that. The bacon we got was really really crisp. It was also really cold. Let me just say precooked. Bloody Mary was excellent. Moscow Mule was very good. I got the 1/4 dark chicken and the chicken was very small. I might also state the chicken was delicious. Macaroni and Cheese was definitely above average.I will come again. We met friends there on a lovely Friday evening & were told it would be a 40 minute wait for outside seating, so I grabbed we grabbed a seat at the bar & pretty perfect bloody Mary while we were at it. Much to my surprise, our table was ready in about 15 minutes so we made our move to their expansive patio & awaited our friends. As we awaited our friends, we had ample time to review the menu & ask any questions to our very attentive server. Our friends arrived & were greeted promptly & we put our thinking hats on in regard to how to tackle the menu. My husband and I decided to stop for lunch on the patio on a sunny Saturday and really enjoyed it. The large community style picnic tables offer plenty of space to people watch on High St. What music we could actually hear that wasn't being drowned out by the "Duck Tales" theme and the Frozen soundtrack from the drag brunch happening next door was decent. We split a 1/2 fried chicken and got the sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, and biscuits as sides. The biscuits with blackberry jam were amazing, as was the fall-spiced sweet potato skillet with torched marshmallows on top. The mac and cheese was good, though I wasn't personally crazy about the spice in it. The chicken was off by a minute - either it spent a minute too little in the fryer or a minute too long under the heat lamp, but it wasn't as crisp as I expected, especially for a place claiming to be their specialty. First off, this place is a go-to place (very popular) on the weekends. It was standing-room-only for the patrons on Friday night. But I was lucky enough to find a spot at the bar. Once seated, the bar staff was great and friendly. Ordered the deep-fried chicken dinner. Chicken was very moist and the outside was definitely crunchy. There side dishes were awesome! Had the mac & cheese along with the sweet potatoes mash (marshmallows on top). Definitely could have had more of that. Would highly recommend this place to drink and/or eat food. Brought a couple of friends to The Eagle for lunch after pulling out my Yelp rolodex and none of us left hungry, disappointed, and we were thankful for everyone's recommendations and reviews. Walking in their were busier than I thought they would be but the place was clean, their workers were busy, and it seemed that all their customers were happy when you observed their smiles, friendly banter, their food coming out quickley, and the friendly staff that works here. Our waitress was fast, friendly and efficient. After placing our orders she came back to check up on us, after bringing out our food she came out twice to see how it was and give us refills, after giving us a bill she offered to split it up and had no problem waiting for us to all chip in, and she came back after we paid to make sure we were all good, to say thanks, and wish us a good day. So when it comes to the food they call them snacks on their menu and we ordered them as appetizers. Their candied bacon and housemade corn nuts were amazing. Both were a little sweet, a little salty, and would be a perfect compliment to an ice cold beer. Unfortunately and fortunately we all ordered some tasty root beers as we all had to go back to work at some point today. Two of ordered their chicken dinners and we were both in love with the side of spicy honey sauce. The chicken was perfectly fried and came out moist and crispy. My buddies tried the sloopy joe and grilled cheese dinners and enjoyed both. I will most definitely try the sloppy joe at some point sooner than later if I can convince myself to not order the chicken. I would recommend this place to anyone in Columbus and plan on coming back in the spring and summer so that I can enjoy their patio. read more

This is one of those places that if I were a less harsh critic, this would be five stars. Honestly, for the neighborhood and how many overpriced and underpowered restaurants are in the area, it is five stars. This place only opened up a little while ago but it's already gotten really popular, and I think I can see why. Selling Southern comfort food is easy; doing it well is difficult. How well does The Eagle do? Actually, pretty damned well. The fried chicken is not the absolute best I've ever had, but it's been brined and you can certainly taste it going down. Furthermore, it's very fairly priced, and I would say that I could fill myself up on the $7 order without a real problem. The side appetizers are pretty dope as well, particularly the spoon bread, which understands what good corn bread should be. Apart from the obvious winners though, there are also other meals and items here that are little hidden gems. I guess because it's from Cincy originally it makes sense that they would have a few Kentucky items, but I was nevertheless pleased to see Burgoo on the menu. Though mine wasn't especially thick, it mixed perfectly with the spoon bread, and the flavor was spot on. Also, their happy hour deals are very fair. $5 cocktails that are basically served to you in a goblet that's more akin to a pitcher and with plenty of booze. Beer selection isn't bad by any stretch either. I'm a bit of a tightwad when it comes to drinks and they do definitely go up in price outside of happy hour, but I'm also a pretty light drinker at best, so that's not a turn-off. I only worry that because this place is good, eventually it will be so swarmed with human beings that it will become inaccessible too. All the more reason to go and enjoy it now. read more

Not too bad priced and the location is pretty low key and high visible all in one. Staff are a little weirdly unintelligent when it comes to common sense items like a table or booth. Outside is pretty nice and large. The Chicken is impeccable and the sides are to die for. Amazing management but it wouldn't hurt to make your team more consistent and knowledgeable about menu items. Furthermore, perhaps dress code should be mentioned. One hostess had pants on that were not rated for this era. They were huge and becoming. She was very nice tho but her clothes were a no no. This is absolutely NOT a place for the health-conscious or non-meat-eaters. However, if you're looking for some delicious, heavy comfort food, this is your spot. Usually I try to visit a place more than once before reviewing, to get an accurate picture of service, and to try a variety of menu items. But my one visit to The Eagle was one of late-night indulgence, and in our group of 6, we shared what seemed like nearly everything. My faves: -mac and cheese -spoonbread (one in our group had been before and tried to get us to shy away from this, as she said it was disappointingly dry. But I couldn't pass it up, and she was glad, saying it was MUCH better this time around). -the chicken (we got an entire bird, and made sure everyone got some light and dark meat. Even the breasts were juicy and flavorful). We also got collards, pickled veggies, and the sweet potato croc. None were bad, but they didn't stick out as special. The beer list was decent as well, and we were all surprised at how inexpensive it was for how much food and drinks we had. I really enjoyed it. im usually really iffy on fried chicken but The Eagle had it pretty good! It was a tad greasy but the chicken to skin ratio was much better than most restaurants. Their batter was well seasoned and complimented the chicken well without overpowering it. I had the spoonbread as a side and I'm pretty picky about cornbread but they nailed it; it was slightly sweet and still a bit crumbly but also very soft. Ok, I'm updating my previous review. I'm ready to say it: this is the best fried chicken in town. My first visit I just had the fired chicken sandwich, so this last visit I went all out and had fried chicken. It was soooo delicious. Just the right amount of delicious breading, and the chicken was so drippingly luxuriously juicy. I had a side of collards and they were amazing. Vinegary and tender with chunks of bacon, yum. Speaking of bacon, my friend and I had a snack of the candied cayenne bacon - yeah, get that. Get two. Get three. I tried one of my companion's biscuits and it was delicious, the denser, smaller style of biscuits, which is my personal fave. The pickled vegetable snacks are also awesome, but I'm a sucker for anything pickled or brined. Bring it on. I used to tout Double Comfort's fried chicken but this is way better. It's not Hot Chicken, but their food is so different, I don't think a direct comparison is possible. The Eagle's chicken is juicier, that I can't deny. There's also a good beer selection, and our service was very attentive. I didn't even know they had an upstairs dining room with its own bar - it was quiet up there and very pleasant. read more

Just ok!!! Over priced Mac and cheese was not cream at all very chalky taste. Everything salty. We had the sausage and cheese dip the cheese also had a chalky. Our waiter was bad. He was the Bartender so we had to wait a lot of times to ask for refills and our check. They had other Servers just standing around. This place is so unique. It's like this weird combination of upscale bar and grille and then some sort of southern drinkin-from-mason-jars type of deal. I really don't actually know how to peg it. I came here with my fam to watch the OSU game and grab a little food. The bar area is good to watch the game, everywhere else would be a little tricky to see a TV. And there's very limited seating at the bar. So then you look at the menu and it's this like abstract stuff like, collard greens and beets and stuff. Like not bad but you're not sure what to think of it. We had some beers and tried one of the menu items. I don't remember it being extraordinarily memorable. I just remember feeling like I didn't know what vibe they're trying to give off. The place is nice for sure, it's clean, decorated, cute even- just different! I guess it's just a different atmosphere than the college bar scene, this is definitely not a college bar. The outdoor seating is awesome and probably adds a lot to the place in the warmer months! A perfect spot for some delicious fried chicken and beer. The menu is straight forward and doesn't try to get fancy with unnecessary twists on classic southern dishes. They have minimal but solid fixed beer list along with some rotating crafts. If that doesn't catch your eye they have 5 or 6 cocktails which are fun and inventive. You can have more privacy sitting indoors but the real fun is outside on the huge patio which features long communal tables and overhead trellises to provide shade. Surprisingly not too crowded for dinner on the weekend. You should be able to grab a table outside without any wait. read more

We came for dinner this evening. The Eagle in Indianapolis is one of my son's favorite spots so he was excited to find one in Columbus. We had made reservations but were surprised that there were so few people there. We were seated. My son ordered a Modello of which they were out. He got something different. I ordered the club with the added fried chicken. When the food was delivered, the normal grilled chicken was on my salad... not the fried that I had ordered. The overall wait staff was lacking. We stopped in here during a recent road trip through Ohio and glad we did. A shot in the dark and it was on the money! Located in an up and coming neighborhood that looks to be quite the entertainment/nightlife district in the making. Bellied up to the island bar so we can see the tv's in prime seating. I got the shrimp po boy and my buddy got the half chicken. My Po Boy was good but apparently the chicken is this venue's pride and joy. The flavoring on this bird was nothing short of amazing. I've never seen a human inhale food as fast as my friend did that evening. Now I need to plan another road trip through Columbus, just to eat the chicken here. read more

Tried Eagle on a recommendation and the food was indeed good. But I can give it only a single star because of its location in Columbus's short north area. Traffic headaches, no on-street parking, outrageous garage prices, panhandlers - all contribute to a one-star experience regardless of the food. Unfair? Perhaps, but if they opened in a strip mall with adequate off street parking away from where they are now I'll make it a destination eatery in a heartbeat. Until then, no restaurant is worth the hassle of the short north no matter how good the food. read more

Decided I wanted to try this place out for my Birthday lunch with the fam after looking at the menu. I am a sucker for fried chicken and macaroni and cheese and both of these did not disappoint. Make sure you put the honey on the chicken because it really takes it to the next level. The macaroni and cheese was so creamy and you get a nice touch of garlic too. Also had the spoon bread which were decent, a little dry. The blackberry jam that came with the biscuits tasted just like blackberry cobbler. I loved the grits as well. They had a great texture and the cheese really added great extra flavor. There was an OSU game on do the place was decently busy but service was still fast and friendly. The front was open with extra seating and I liked the sun coming in. If that wasn't open I think it'd be a little dark. There is a parking garage behind the restaurant cause parking is never easy in the Short North. I'll definitely be back I want to try the mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. Ask for Kimmy! My boyfriend and I visited The Eagle twice in about a week. My boyfriend had been before and insisted the chicken was amazing and that I HAD to try the spiced honey. He was not wrong! Do yourself a favor and get the spiced honey. He does not like honey, but he will eat The Eagle's spiced honey every time. After telling his mom how great The Eagle is we went with her for a Sunday brunch making it our second visit in a week. The Mac 'n cheese is good, but nothing spectacular. The collard greens are so good and savory! But the service....the service is none like I've ever experienced! On our second visit, they had to fry more chicken for us so it took a bit longer for the food to come to us, but we hadn't noticed. The Manager on Duty gave us complimentary chips and queso for our wait. On both of these visits we had the same server, Kimmy. She is simply amazing! She went above and beyond to ensure we received the best service. She is so sweet and genuine. Words cannot describe how appreciative we are of her and the service she provides. Every time we come back we will be sure to sit in her section. Her service makes the great food even better. So go for the food, but for a top notch experience ask for Kimmy. read more
