My son took me to The Eagle on Sunday. We didn't have reservations but were treated very kindly and asked to wait for a table. We were seated within 15 minutes which I thought was great. We both had the Chicken and 3 and were delighted. This is the most flavorsome chicken I have ever had the good fortune to eat! The mac and cheese, greens and biscuit were great. The only miss in my eyes were the mashed potatoes but taste is taste and mine might not be the same as yours. Everything was hot and delicious and our server was great. He was efficient and helpful. Came here for to celebrate our Mother's Day. Expected to have an amazing time as we typically do when we come here. Courtney made this experience the worst ever. She was completely dismissive and unattractive to our needs. I mean at least pretend to like your job. She rushed us to order then pretty much abandoned us the whole time. It wasn't even busy. We had to ask for silverware AFTER our food came. She never came back to check on us. It was like she tried her best to avoid coming our way. Very strange behavior. She never even came to refill our water! We had to ask for more water! Terrible service!! Plates piled up on our table and she didn't even come to clear them as more food was coming. Great little place in OTR lively on a Saturday mid day. Waiter was very good explained the menu and made several recommendations. I had to try the brined fried chicken. Dark quart was two drums and a thigh. The meat was so flavorful and served with Tabasco Honey that was frankly outstanding. This is a popular & bustling restaurant that feels more like a rowdy bar. It was definitely the party place of the block, with a long line of people waiting to get in. The service I received was good -- I ordered take-out electronically (if you try to phone in an order the message redirects you to their computer service), but it turned out to be easy and efficient. When I got there, they already had my food bagged up -- you just wait in the same line the dine-in patrons wait, and when it's your turn they just give it to you, as you already paid on line. And as for the food -- well, the star of the show here is the chicken. I ordered a fourth of a chicken, dark meat, and it was juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked, with just a thin layer of coating. It had a little heat to it, which seemed to fit the "Southern-fried" nature of the restaurant. I ordered the spoon bread -- i.e. a large helping of cornbread. It's normally served in a large skillet, but with takeout, it's served in an aluminum pie tin. It is absolutely amazing -- very moist, finely ground, and delicious. The grits were also very good. It's flavor was more complex. There was heat, but also a lot of herbal overtones. The collards were just okay, and seemed to have the same flavor of heat as the chicken and the grits. The hushpuppies were a miss -- they lacked the flavor that the spoonbread had, and all I tasted was the oil it was fried in. All in all, however, it was consistently delicious stick-to-your ribs fried & Southern food, made in generous portions with pretty good consistency, and just enough heat to give it a kick! read more

Our server was very helpful and extremely knowledgable of the menu. I ordered the fried chicken (delighted that there was an option for only dark meat). I wasn't that impressed and didn't finish my wings, comparing the taste and texture to KFC chicken, when I was expecting southern style. The server suggested the fried chicken sandwich, it was their favorite thing on the menu. We both ordered the fried chicken sandwich and decided to share a side of fries. The food came out pretty quickly and had a nice presentation. It was extremely disappointing, especially after the long pitch you get from server when they first greet you. The bread wasn't toasted, there was a lot of slaw and barely any chicken, the chicken had no flavor, wasn't crispy, and just overall unsatisfying. I don't think we have ever had such a bland meal. I wanted to ask for more spicy mayo but the server didn't come back till we were close to finished. As someone that's from the south, this definitely wasn't a southern meal. On our last day in Cincinnati we decided to try the eagle OTR a try. Seeing good reviews on Yelp I was excited for some good home style cooking. The girl waiting on us was amazing. Refilling waters and asking us numerous times if she could get us anything was really nice. The food was delicious. I decided to go with a shrimp and grits appetizer (more like an entree) a side of collard greens and the dark three piece of fried chicken. The chicken was moist, crunchy and tender. My daughter got a nice portion of hot honey that she didn't want and it was great on my chicken. The collards were delicious. Was a bit hesitant when I saw stems in with them but even the stems were tender and savory. Very well cooked. The grits and shrimp was amazing. What a deal for $10!! If I worked anywhere in that area I'd be eating that dish at least twice a week at that price and that quality. Try it and I think you'll agree. Overall the best meal I had in Cincinnati. read more

There was a 40 minute wait but we were able to co-seat and were seated within 10 minutes, so if you don't mind sharing a table it can be quicker if you don't have reservations. This place always has a great atmosphere and vibes! The food was delicious. We had one hiccup with the fried chicken BLT coming out completely cold. I still ate half of it because I was starving but the server insisted on having it remade. The second time around was even better and made up for the cold food! We had been wanting to try this place for a couple years now. We are native Texans and this was our second time in Cincinnati and we had heard a lot of great things about this place. I will say you definitely have to make reservations ahead of time as this place can get pretty busy! as we walked in, the host was cheerful and pleasant, and she walked us to our table quickly! I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try based on the great reviews. I called ahead and ask about the wait time since I was on a time constraint. The guy who answered the phone was very pleasant. Parking can be a bit difficult since its located in downtown, but luckily I found free parking on a Sunday. Inside the restaurant it is not so big as I expected. It was a bit busy since the Cincinnati Bengals were having a home game. The place is pretty cozy and family friendly, so you'll enjoy it whether you are dining alone, having a seat at the bar, or with a group of friends or family. They have daily drink specials, and my favorite is when they have Bulleit for $5. The sweet potato crock has just the right amount of sweetness, and the chicken speaks for itself. The grilled cheese is different, but in a good way. It has apple slices and apricot preserves on it and is the BOMB with an added piece of fried chicken breast on it. The Eagle is consistently one of my favorite restaurants in OTR, and I have to update my previous review to once again sing its praises. My friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon, and snagged a table outdoors to take advantage of patio season while we still can! Our server, Abby, was so friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The food, as always, was spectacular. This visit, I tried the Fried Chicken BLT, which might just be my new go-to order. The chicken was moist on the inside, crispy on the outside (as is the standard here at The Eagle.) The lettuce and tomato were fresh and juicy, and the bread it was served on toasted to perfection. This sandwich is huge - and I was only able to finish half of it at the restaurant. Thankfully, The Eagle always makes great leftovers. You can't go wrong with any of their sides -- this time, we shared the Mashed Potatoes and the Spoonbread. I also have to shout out The Eagle for its awesome prices -- we walked away spending less than $50 for SO much food. In a world of seemingly never-ending inflation, I always know money spent here is money well spent. Keep on doing what you're doing, Eagle! I'm sure I'll be back again soon. read more

I think the food is southern inspired and being from the south, we decided to try the fried chicken, cornbread and fries. The cornbread was tasty and not too dry like a lot of cornbreads can be. The fries had great seasoning and an excellent dipping sauce. The chicken itself was not very southern in my opinion. The skin wasn't great, chicken itself was a bit under seasoned and not as juicy as I would've liked. The service itself was really nice and helpful when looking over the menu. I had dinner at The Eagle tonight after arriving in Cincinnati. I read that it was a very popular restaurant with a specialty in fried chicken and I made a reservation a few days ago. At that time I was told that 5-7 pm was their busy time and I was able to snag a 6:45 pm time. When I arrived I noticed that they had inside seating along with covered sidewalk seating along with an attractive bar that's available too. My reservation was honored on time and I noticed that seating space started opening up right at the time of my reservation as predicted. I knew what I wanted to try so I ordered the 1/2 fried chicken for $16 and added a side of cole slaw for $3. I would have added another side dish but that was plenty of food. It arrived in about 10 minutes with a small decanter of their spicy honey. I started with the slaw first for a taste and noticed it was quite a large serving and probably enough for 2 to share. It was light tasting and good. Now for their famous fried chicken. It's advertised as double brined for 24 hours and pressure cooked. I don't mean this in any negative way but its appearance and crust is similar to the original recipe KFC chicken (not crispy). Taste wise, I thought the chicken was juicy and flavorful and there was plenty of meat on the bone. I tried the spicy honey a few times on the meat and did not fall in love with it. That honey has Tabasco and Sriracha sauces blended in it that gives it a medium kick to it. Not overpowering but you can definitely taste it. I guess it's an acquired taste but I prefer regular honey only or none at all. No points off for this as the use of the spicy honey is optional. Maya was my server and did an excellent job. Personable, helpful and friendly. Ask for her as she is excellent! This restaurant is located in an entertainment district in downtown with many other bars and restaurant nearby. it looks like a fun place to visit especially in the evening.
