My family raved about The Eagle OTR, so the next time we were in town, they took me to try the fried chicken. I ordered the BBQ Pork Burnt Ends as an appetizer and two pieces of chicken with collard greens as my side. First, the burnt ends were tasty. The sauce was sweet and enhanced the flavor of the meat. When my dinner came, I started with the side dish, as I always do. If a restaurant takes the time to create delicious side dishes, you know the main course is going to be great as well. My collard greens were good, but a bit under-seasoned for my tastebuds. I would have preferred more pepper, but I can't ding the rating over a personal preference. The chicken itself was underwhelming. I give it a 3.5 rating while the appetizer and side dish were a solid 4.0. The service was good despite the place being packed with more guests waiting outside. All in all, The Eagle is a nice place to enjoy a meal. read more

The hush puppies were so flavorful and crispy. I have never had any so yummy. The grilled chicken breast sandwich had a nice mix of chopped toppings on it. The macaroni and cheese was ok. Our server was Timothy and he was prompt and attentive the entire time we were there. The restaurant was clean and there were plenty of seats available. Reservations must not mean anything to this place. We were seated nearly 30 minutes after our pre arranged reservation. I find this completely unnaceptable for an establishment of such high regard. HOWEVER, the manager at the time kindly gave our starters for free due to the long waits. Fortunately the food was excellent and exceeded previous expectations. If the service was better and the climate inside wasn't that of the Sahara desert in July, I would have gladly given 5 stars. Overall good food but could work on service. read more

We've enjoyed The Eagle a few times in the last 4 years but somehow have never left a review! This place is definitely packed on the weekends, but a weeknight dinner is absolutely where it's at! We enjoyed a good level of busy and noise on our Tuesday night dinner here. The staff really is great, the servers are very thorough on explaining the menu to those who are coming for the first time, we enjoyed listening to our server go through the menu with the table next to us on our most recent trip. For the two of us, we ordered 1/2 chicken, fries, spoon bread, Mac n cheese, and grits. Everything always hits the spot! This was our first time getting the grits and they were phenomenal. If we had an easier time picking sides we could eat more chicken because it's incredible, but we love the sides too much to narrow it down. We don't go often since we're usually out on the weekends and it is too busy for us then, but when we do go it's always a treat! read more

This used to be a great place for fried chicken. Over the years it's truly gone downhill. Located in OTR in Cincinnati. The neighborhood has declined to the point of being fearful of being shot at. Parking is super expensive and the service is not great. A couple years ago I would have absolutely recommended this place. Today, no at all. The chicken isn't noteworthy at all. The sides are bland and the drinks are watered down. Save your money. Not at all worth the time, parking or hassle of dealing with the crime ridden downtown Cincinnati. read more

Went to the Eagle on OTR this evening the wife and I sat at the bar and met one of the most wonderful bar tenders Marian she was very friendly personable and helpful we got a Kale Salad, Burnt ends and Fries and a hard cider. Great little place in OTR lively on a Saturday mid day. Waiter was very good explained the menu and made several recommendations. I had to try the brined fried chicken. Dark quart was two drums and a thigh. The meat was so flavorful and served with Tabasco Honey that was frankly outstanding. He recommended the Mac and Cheese, I forget how many years voted best in City, yeah it was very tasty. First thing: we arrived 30 min early for our reservation (traffic wasn't as bad as expected?! Who'da thunk it?!). And yet the hostess quickly and graciously seated us. We were planning to wait around, but this young woman didn't mess around. She takes care of her guests! Our server, I missed his name, was everything we could ask for--he gave recs, he gave guidance and answers to our questions, he gave history of the location and the vibe it holds (former post office!). The food was comfort food that I didn't know I needed. It's simple and well prepared; flavor reigns. The hot honey for my fried chicken was worth the price of the meal, but my wife's fried chicken BLT has now created for her a new quest to replicate it at home. Our 3 teens devoured every bite. My son took me to The Eagle on Sunday. We didn't have reservations but were treated very kindly and asked to wait for a table. We were seated within 15 minutes which I thought was great. We both had the Chicken and 3 and were delighted. This is the most flavorsome chicken I have ever had the good fortune to eat! The mac and cheese, greens and biscuit were great. The only miss in my eyes were the mashed potatoes but taste is taste and mine might not be the same as yours. Everything was hot and delicious and our server was great. He was efficient and helpful. Came here for to celebrate our Mother's Day. Expected to have an amazing time as we typically do when we come here. Courtney made this experience the worst ever. She was completely dismissive and unattractive to our needs. I mean at least pretend to like your job. She rushed us to order then pretty much abandoned us the whole time. It wasn't even busy. We had to ask for silverware AFTER our food came. She never came back to check on us. It was like she tried her best to avoid coming our way. Very strange behavior. She never even came to refill our water! We had to ask for more water! Terrible service!! Plates piled up on our table and she didn't even come to clear them as more food was coming. I can see why this is a local favorite! The atmosphere inside is lively enough for bar-seaters, but still family-friendly for groups with young children. Our server was very helpful and extremely knowledgable of the menu. I ordered the fried chicken (delighted that there was an option for only dark meat). I wasn't that impressed and didn't finish my wings, comparing the taste and texture to KFC chicken, when I was expecting southern style. This is a popular & bustling restaurant that feels more like a rowdy bar. It was definitely the party place of the block, with a long line of people waiting to get in. The service I received was good -- I ordered take-out electronically (if you try to phone in an order the message redirects you to their computer service), but it turned out to be easy and efficient. When I got there, they already had my food bagged up -- you just wait in the same line the dine-in patrons wait, and when it's your turn they just give it to you, as you already paid on line. And as for the food -- well, the star of the show here is the chicken. I ordered a fourth of a chicken, dark meat, and it was juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked, with just a thin layer of coating. It had a little heat to it, which seemed to fit the "Southern-fried" nature of the restaurant. I ordered the spoon bread -- i.e. a large helping of cornbread. It's normally served in a large skillet, but with takeout, it's served in an aluminum pie tin. It is absolutely amazing -- very moist, finely ground, and delicious. The grits were also very good. It's flavor was more complex. There was heat, but also a lot of herbal overtones. The collards were just okay, and seemed to have the same flavor of heat as the chicken and the grits. The hushpuppies were a miss -- they lacked the flavor that the spoonbread had, and all I tasted was the oil it was fried in. All in all, however, it was consistently delicious stick-to-your ribs fried & Southern food, made in generous portions with pretty good consistency, and just enough heat to give it a kick! read more

We were looking for a quick lunch and were recommended to go here. We were greeted pretty quickly once we got sat and started with waters. The server suggested the fried chicken sandwich, it was their favorite thing on the menu. We both ordered the fried chicken sandwich and decided to share a side of fries. The food came out pretty quickly and had a nice presentation. It was extremely disappointing, especially after the long pitch you get from server when they first greet you. The bread wasn't toasted, there was a lot of slaw and barely any chicken, the chicken had no flavor, wasn't crispy, and just overall unsatisfying. I don't think we have ever had such a bland meal. I wanted to ask for more spicy mayo but the server didn't come back till we were close to finished. As someone that's from the south, this definitely wasn't a southern meal. There was a 40 minute wait but we were able to co-seat and were seated within 10 minutes, so if you don't mind sharing a table it can be quicker if you don't have reservations. This place always has a great atmosphere and vibes! The food was delicious. We had one hiccup with the fried chicken BLT coming out completely cold. I still ate half of it because I was starving but the server insisted on having it remade. The second time around was even better and made up for the cold food! Highly recommend the Mac and cheese and greens. They taste homemade and always a fan favorite. Not pictured is the jalapeño peach margarita. On our last day in Cincinnati we decided to try the eagle OTR a try. Seeing good reviews on Yelp I was excited for some good home style cooking. The girl waiting on us was amazing. Refilling waters and asking us numerous times if she could get us anything was really nice. The food was delicious. I decided to go with a shrimp and grits appetizer (more like an entree) a side of collard greens and the dark three piece of fried chicken. The chicken was moist, crunchy and tender. My daughter got a nice portion of hot honey that she didn't want and it was great on my chicken. The collards were delicious. Was a bit hesitant when I saw stems in with them but even the stems were tender and savory. Very well cooked. The grits and shrimp was amazing. What a deal for $10!! If I worked anywhere in that area I'd be eating that dish at least twice a week at that price and that quality. Try it and I think you'll agree. Overall the best meal I had in Cincinnati. read more

Since we were a large group, we had to try a little bit of everything to share! The macaroni and cheese was decadent and delicious! I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try based on the great reviews. I called ahead and ask about the wait time since I was on a time constraint. The guy who answered the phone was very pleasant. Parking can be a bit difficult since its located in downtown, but luckily I found free parking on a Sunday. Inside the restaurant it is not so big as I expected. It was a bit busy since the Cincinnati Bengals were having a home game. Me and my boyfriend was seated at the bar and the service was very good and quick. We ordered the fried chicken, corn bread and the sweet potato with marshmallows. The food was delicious but what stood out the most was the honey sauce. The sauce was everything! Definitely what brought out the fried chicken. The Eagle is one of those restaurants that's always busy because of its popularity, but there's never really ever a long wait. The place is pretty cozy and family friendly, so you'll enjoy it whether you are dining alone, having a seat at the bar, or with a group of friends or family. They have daily drink specials, and my favorite is when they have Bulleit for $5. The sweet potato crock has just the right amount of sweetness, and the chicken speaks for itself. The grilled cheese is different, but in a good way. It has apple slices and apricot preserves on it and is the BOMB with an added piece of fried chicken breast on it. The Eagle is consistently one of my favorite restaurants in OTR, and I have to update my previous review to once again sing its praises. My friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon, and snagged a table outdoors to take advantage of patio season while we still can! Our server, Abby, was so friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The food, as always, was spectacular. This visit, I tried the Fried Chicken BLT, which might just be my new go-to order. The chicken was moist on the inside, crispy on the outside (as is the standard here at The Eagle.) The lettuce and tomato were fresh and juicy, and the bread it was served on toasted to perfection. This sandwich is huge - and I was only able to finish half of it at the restaurant. Thankfully, The Eagle always makes great leftovers. You can't go wrong with any of their sides -- this time, we shared the Mashed Potatoes and the Spoonbread. I also have to shout out The Eagle for its awesome prices -- we walked away spending less than $50 for SO much food. In a world of seemingly never-ending inflation, I always know money spent here is money well spent. Keep on doing what you're doing, Eagle! I'm sure I'll be back again soon. read more

The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The hardwood smoked bacon was delicious. The grilled bread it was served on was so fresh I started to eat it separately. Came during a hot day in Cincinnati while we were wandering around. The restaurant is pretty cool, I think it used to be an old post office that was renovated to be what it is now. I think the food is southern inspired and being from the south, we decided to try the fried chicken, cornbread and fries. The cornbread was tasty and not too dry like a lot of cornbreads can be. The fries had great seasoning and an excellent dipping sauce. The chicken itself was not very southern in my opinion. The skin wasn't great, chicken itself was a bit under seasoned and not as juicy as I would've liked. The service itself was really nice and helpful when looking over the menu.
