I make this review reluctantly because I really wanted to enjoy a dine in experience. I've had take out from their first location in Kenwood previously. We had 1:30p reservations for Sunday brunch. We arrived on time and after waiting 20-30 minutes we still weren't seated and before being seated we were advised that upon ordering it would be another 40 minutes for the food to come out. Needless to say we left.

Hattiesburg hash! 4 cups of grits, 4 cups of cheese 1/2 c of hash,1 egg a pinch of green onions. A bit much wouldn't you say?

Had a reservation but had to wait like walk-ins. The current status of this restaurant on Yelp says its temporarily closed but I've never seen a better turn out as I'm sitting inside the place. Good choice to have a rich breakfast. But waiting 1.25 hrs for your food with no complimentary anything, on hard chairs, is brutal! I hope they fix the kinks in this new setup for them. People get tired of poor service, average food but high demands of the customers. That's not how it works.

Came for happy hour and had a great time. Our server did an amazing job even tho he was the host, server, cook and bartender he handled it so well. I had the Tenny Henny, fried broccoli and wet lemon pepper wings. Everything was so good but the fried broccoli was surprising. It had a really good crust on the outside that makes the first bite and everyone after that great.

Finally another amazing breakfast spot in Northern Kentucky! The food was amazing. Best shrimp n grits I've ever had in my life; shrimp was seasoned perfectly. Can't wait to come back and try their lunch and dinner menu items. The service was wonderful and the outdoor patio seating was perfect on a sunny day. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Corned beef hash bowl- full of potatoes and sauce. Very little protein.

I'm so relieved to know fellow Yelpers have a more accurate depiction of this restaurant vs Google (which I unfortunately used to pick this brunch location). I have always loved this space. Vibe has good music. Unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I can say about this place. I would describe the menu selection as maybe southern / Cajun? My bowl was FULL of potato's with very little protein (light on the egg and corned beef hash). The flavor was good, but for $18, I want more than potatoes. The service is what really got me in a bad mood. It was sloooowww. Even to get a coffee refill took 20 minutes. Here's the kicker, when we finished our meal, we were still enjoying our coffee and juice, 3 people came and cleared everything from our table - even our waters. And then the hostess came up and rudely told us we had to leave because they had reservations for our table. I kid you not... there were 4 empty tables to our right. We were having a holiday lunch (just two polite ladies who had not consumed any alcohol) and finishing up a story. I cannot believe they pushed us out. I would never ever eat here again.

Our office had our team brunch/lunch here and the wait staff were so kind and attentive. What a great service for a table of 8 even with how busy they were! The food was amazing. I cannot speak highly enough of the cheesy grits. Vegetarian options on the menu and I looked over and the chicken waffles next to me looked so golden and crispy! The vibe was emasculate 90s and early 2000s music was playing. The ambiance was just a good vibe. The chef came out and just surveyed the place and he looked over our table and asked if everything tasted alright? It tasted great! Can't wait to come back and visit!

No refund policy and now I know why!

Food was horrible! Whiting is too heavily breaded, very salty , tasted & looked old! I purchased 3 whiting baskets for my office colleagues & myself and we couldn't even eat it! I was so embarrassed! I specifically asked if tartar & hot sauce was included in the carryout bag and was assured by the staff that it was. Got back to the office and of course there was no type of condiments in the bag. Food was not marked as to differentiate which was Cajun fries and which was not. It was just an all around horrible experience! I work in a government office and will let everyone know that the food & service is below subpar. Needless to say I'm done!

Went for my birthday meal this past Sunday. Great food and great service. I'Jah (server) excellent customer service. Owner and staff greeted and made sure customers were happy.

They are back there cooking like we're at Grandma or Auntie's house and I LOVE IT! I hosted my birthday brunch here with a small group of my closest friends who traveled in from out of town and EVERYONE enjoyed their meal. The restaurant serves southern brunch classics like fish and grits, fried okra, chicken and waffles, french toast, you name it! Our table enjoyed these things plus an omelet and mimosas. DELICIOUS! Additionally, the staff was friendly and upbeat as were our neighboring guests who made the party even more complete!!! The energy was on 100!!! This is MY PLACE.

I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and they happen to have happy hour going on. The service was quite slow and there weren't too many people inside. The music was playing very loud and it was hard to have a conversation. The food was pretty good but nothing too special. I would reccomend coming for brunch as they have a lot of options to chose from. The staff was friendly but the service was slow.

YE Gurl Eats: 6 N the Mornin' -- Where the Grits Ain't Got Grit Sometimes you root for a place before you even walk in. Black-owned, breakfast-centric, housed in a historic Cincinnati building with a name that nods to the culture--yes, I wanted to like this. But... there are layers. Let's start from the top. My beau and I snagged two lucky seats at the bar amidst the crowd (which honestly gave me hope). The location? Prime. The building? Beautiful bones. But the interior read sparse and last-minute, like someone poured their entire budget into rent and hoped a coat of paint and a few plastic flowers down the bannisters and behind the bar could stretch and read 'New Orleans'. HOW SWAY? I later found out the owner is from Atlanta, not New Orleans--which maybe explains the mismatch. This wasn't giving "Second Line" or even "low country cozy." It felt like a soft pop-up in a historic shell. From 12:05 to 1:02--that's how long it took for our food to hit the table. I have the photo receipts. While we waited, we had a front-row seat to some... chaos. The staff was visibly overwhelmed, huddling behind the bar, venting about customers in front of customers, and trying to dodge the tense energy of the floor manager. It wasn't just "busy" energy--it was disorganized, and unfortunately, unprofessional. When my food finally arrived--The Lafayette Omelette with cheese grits and a shrimp upcharge ($20)--I was starving, so yes, I ate all of it. But did I enjoy it? Not exactly. The cheese tasted cheap and flavorless, the dish was butter-heavy with no depth, and honestly, nothing on that plate said Nawlins. No seasoning, no soul. The real MVP? The Mimosa ($10). It was giving "at-home brunch with the girls"--not premium bubbles, but refreshing enough to take the edge off my growing hangry. And give me a buzz that equated to some empathy for the event. That's where the good news ends. And look--I get it. It's hard out here for new restaurants. Labor is tricky, training is ongoing, and creating consistency takes time. But when folks are waiting over an hour and your staff is clocked out (mentally, at least), you risk becoming a one-time experience instead of a local favorite. I'm not here to bash. I genuinely wish them growth, structure, and some solid consulting. Just not from me. Not today. Not for free.

    Savannah Jammin' Salmon Croquettes
    Deidra B.

I'll start with the good. The salmon croquettes and eggs were good, the cheese grits were very good! The server was very helpful and did a great job. It's a nice amount of space here, but where we were seated was a 2-top with not a lot of room and the waiting area isn't spacious, especially for a place as busy as them. It took a while for the food to come out and when it did, the only thing that was hot between my entree and my friend's entree was my croquettes. Everything else was lukewarm. Pancakes were kind of cold so I couldn't enjoy them but the entree was good. I would come back knowing that I have to set my expectations and show up before I'm hungry since the wait could be a while (even with a reservation).

I could order the same items from the regular menu, pay more, and have the bacon removed. What makes this especially frustrating is that ordering from the regular menu meant Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center missed the donation tied to my Restaurant Week meal. All because the restaurant wouldn't serve the salad without bacon under the Restaurant Week offer. Plus they charged us a service fee for using our credit card without clearly letting us know.

The place is small and had a very weird vibe between fine dining and kitschy. White tablecloths, but then lots of purple and pictures of roosters everywhere (I realize the name, but hmmm). Our server was lovely but would disappear for too long between times when she should have been present. We ordered our drinks at 745pm, and I watched them sit at the end of the bar. Finally, at 805pm, I went to the bartender and said, "those are our drinks that have been sitting there for a while". Our server brought them over like we ordered them 5 minutes prior. But the lovely owner/manager came over and said the "drinks are on me" because we waited so long. We appreciated that! The fried chicken was good, but the breading was very salty. The green beans were almost inedible because they were so salty. The mashed potatoes were average. The biscuits were fantastic. The fried deviled eggs were okay. A regular deviled egg is better. The shrimp and grits had a lot going on. The shrimp was lightly battered and fried (?) and the flavor of the dish was bold. I think sauteed shrimp and a little less gravy would make it perfect.

Love. If I can use…read moreone word to describe my experience at Soul Secret, that's it. Love Amore Besotted Take great people (Melinda was our server and the chef came out to check on us...more about Melinda later)... Combine it with great food and great ambiance, and you get this restaurant! The first thing that you notice when you walk in is that it feels like home. Some restaurants focus heavily on decor and leave a lot to be desired in terms of ambiance, the people, and the food. And in other restaurants, you walk in and feel as if you can stay there forever. This is one of those places. We stayed there for a while. Imagine being in Grandmom's living room with pictures on the wall and positive music playing in the background. That's Soul Secrets. The menu is big enough to make sure that everyone can find something to eat, but not so big that you will struggle to make a decision. From fried catfish and grits to French toast to salmon croquettes and the largest pancake on Earth, there is something for everyone. My niece ordered the French toast, and my sister ordered a special breakfast that came with a pancake, grits, eggs, potatoes, and sausage. I was still hungry from last night's meal, (and you can read about it in another review) so I just nibbled off of my sister's meal. The French toast came out first, and I could tell immediately that the chef knew what she was doing. The rest of the food came out, and again, they brought the largest pancake I've ever seen. My sister was treating us today, and I was glad that the menu prices were very reasonable. My niece said that the French toast was delicious, and she ate as much as she could. She has a dance performance tonight and made sure that she didn't put her show at risk. It was difficult for her because the food was so good, but she managed and took a box home to eat it later. Yes. My sister nibbled on everything else and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the grits and some of the pancake, and I have to say that it was very difficult for me to stop eating because it tasted so good. The pancake was perfectly cooked and fluffy with crispy bits on the edge. The grits were creamy and flavorful, even without cheese. The coffee was great. I had several cups. All in all, it was arguably better than any breakfast I've had at any restaurant that serves it. Now let's get back to Melinda. So often, the dining experience can be directly related to the person that greets you when you take a seat. Thank goodness we were greeted by Melinda. She has one of those energies and personalities that makes you feel as if she has been in your family for years. Funny and friendly, but at the same time, dedicated to making sure that you have a good experience. Again, I felt like I was at someone's home rather than in a restaurant. She called me a "troublemaker," which means that somehow she was seeing the 20-year-old version of me instead of the person that I am today. lol So here's the summary. If you are in Cincinnati and you want a great meal, there are many restaurants to choose from. It appears to be a pretty decent restaurant town. But if you want to FEEL Cincinnati, while feeling right at home and having one of the best meals ever- Soul Secrets is one for the ages.

We hadn't checked on the website, but found out Thursday is oyster day, with $1 oysters and fried oysters and $1.50 for Oyster Bienville. The fried oysters were delicious. The raw oysters were good, though I had one that was gritty. We are going again in two weeks and will try the Oyster Bienville along with other assorted oysters. Two of us had the special Pan Seared Sea Bass. It came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The crisp on the top was delicious and the fish itself was delicate and moist. It did indeed melt in my mouth. The potatoes were very good, though I didn't finish all of them. The greens were good. Mark had a ribeye and is still raving about it today. He ordered the preparation version made with just salt and pepper. He also had a cup of gumbo. He said it had an amazing depth of flavor. We wrapped up with dessert. Three folks had Key Lime Pie. I opted for Karma's Opera Crème Cake. Oh my goodness, it was huge, sweet and delicious. I tried a bit of key lime and it just didn't compare. That said, those who had the Key Lime Pie loved it. Fun, attentive, engaging, and gave us great recommendations throughout the evening. We started with the oysters, Skillet Cornbread, Pork Belly Skewer, and H20 Melon. The cornbread was, without a doubt, the best we've ever had. Subtly sweet, pillowy without being cakey, with this amazing sweet-savory depth. The whipped Steen's butter was the perfect complement. WOW! The pork belly was another standout. The coconut Alabama BBQ was rich and flavorful without being heavy. The melon was beautifully plated, and the country ham added the perfect salty contrast. The oysters were the only miss for me. They had a little more of that "fishy" quality than I prefer, but I'm admittedly particular about oysters. For dinner, the Jollof was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The Lamb Neck was a little gamier than I personally prefer, but my son clearly disagreed because he devoured it down to the bone. Then came the IBÉRICO. When I tell you how good this was...we finished it and ordered a SECOND one! The pork with corn maque choux, chimichurri, and lime was incredible. Rich, bright, savory, and beautifully balanced. Easily the star of the evening. We finished with the Key Lime semifreddo, which was light and airy. I also had a Paper Plane, a simple cocktail that many places surprisingly don't get right. Nolia nailed it. Fresh citrus, quality ingredients, and perfectly balanced. I also loved the hospitality. The chef greeting guests as they arrive is such a small thing, but it immediately makes the experience feel warm and personal. Between the food, Henry's service, the cocktails, and the hospitality, this was such a lovely place to celebrate my son. If you haven't been to Nolia, GO. And order the Ibérico. Both my server and manager were so engaging and friendly, it didn't feel like I was dining alone. The space itself definitely doesn't make it feel like you're in Cincy- very warm and inviting. I settled on the cornbread, which is a menu staple. The butter on top felt so decadent and the cornbread itself was very savory. For my entree, I chose the jollof and the veggie selection for the evening which was grilled okra with a banana gastrique. That alone felt so cool, I had to order it. The jollof was so good, so filling, perfectly spiced and Chef actually broke it down for me all the spices he used to capture that flavor. I wish I had room for dessert, but I didn't want to go too crazy! Between the service (which they make it a point to open the door for everyone), the open kitchen, the food and then since I was a tourist they gave me recs for so many places to go in the city, I'm happy to rate this place 5 stars.
