I came here to destress after work tonight with my roommate after reading all of the positive reviews. But this was honestly an awful experience. We entered and had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. Three different people came up to us and asked how many were in our party. We kept telling them there were 2 of us. Finally we get seated on a random wall. We were seated at a small table that hardly fit two plates. The ambiance was terrible - we were right near an exit door and the front door (which kept opening and making us freezing cold). We had to wear our coats the whole time! There was also just nothing really decorative or nice to look at, at all. We ordered two glasses of wine ("Kung Fu Girl" Riesling) to start. We then got (10 minutes later) water and one glass of wine. The waitress didn't bring out the second glass of wine until 11 minutes later and THEN finally took our order. The food took forever to come, which we expected. Not once did the waitress check in to apologize or update us on the wait time. My friend and I both ordered the Not Guilty (a veggie burger with vegan garlic aioli, lettuce and tomato). The veggie burger tasted like something you'd eat in a hospital. Seriously. The worse one I've ever had. Bun was dry. We also ordered truffle fries, which did not taste like truffle fries at all. It's like they just fried them a ton and then dropped some truffle oil on top. But you could barely taste it. Felt like a waste of $1.50 extra for the "truffle" added to the fries that came with the burger. I will definitely not come here again. ALSO when we asked for more ketchup, all they brought us was another tiny cup of it. That was not nearly enough for the two of us and we were expecting an entire bottle! Would've said something about it but the waitress ran off so fast and didn't appear for another 10 minutes. Ridiculous. read more

The second time I came was much more recent, just about one month ago. The service was significantly better than my first experience as the server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. This time, I came for dinner so the menu was different. My friend and I decided to split a large pizza, half margherita and half meatlovers. The meatlovers was great, really flavorful but not overwhelming with the toppings. The margherita was less impressive. The flavor was there but it was a bit bland and I would have preferred the tomatoes to be cooked a bit more thoroughly. Overall the second experience was much better, I'm wondering if that is just due to more experience, as this restaurant was opened for just a few months when I came the first time. read more

Once upon a time this restaurant was good. We used to enjoy all the food here and would recommend it to others. Well, except for brunch. The day we went for brunch must have been a very very off day. Today was the first day we went out after having a baby and we were disappointed to say the least. The calamari tasted old and hard (the Thai chili sauce on the calamari was good). We ordered the Kale salad, but it was nothing to write home about. There was hardly anything on it, which made me hungry earlier than expected. I also got salmon on the salad, and that was good. We're visiting the area from out of state and asked Google where to go and The District was at the top of the list. We walked in a little after 2pm and the lady who seated us informed us that it was brunch time, which was ok. The waitress finally came at 2:15 to get our drinks and we asked since brunch was ending at 2:30 if we could see a lunch menu. She informed us that till 4 it was a basic menu with pizza. We ordered our pizza, which if you get a large you can split half and half, home fries, and Cheddar & chicken biscuit off the brunch menu. Shortly after we ordered our food another waitress placed 2 dinner menus on the table behind. I think the pizza was great, the crust was phenomenal to me. Crispy but light. We ordered half buffalo chicken and half bbq chicken. I preferred the buffalo chix side but the bbq chix was still good. The chicken & cheddar biscuits were really not that great. The chicken was cooked well, flavorful and juicy. The spicy hollandaise sauce was broken and resembled grits. It got scraped off. The biscuits were closer to cornbread and dry. Had a friend with is who has to eat gluten free and informed the waitress and her options were seasonal fruit bowl and a sourdough sandwich. I had a really enjoyable lunch here - thank you Michael P. for suggesting it. It's really hard to go wrong here. Service is attentive as soon as you walk through the door. I didn't get to see the extent of the cocktail list, but my margarita was perfect (except for the part about them taking the glass away when I still had a tiny bit left I wanted to savor). I went with a "create your own" pizza (wood fire grilled), again with really good results and an impressive selection of toppings from which to choose. I challenge anyone to finish a "small," though trust me, I wanted to. It was just as good as a mid-afternoon snack. This is also a great place to stop in Providence if you're just passing through, as I was, because it's very convenient to the I-95/I-195 interchange. Before I even begin my review, I will make a bold statement: The District may have the best pizza in Providence. That being said, you can go to any part of Providence and have a really good pie. So, I'm definitely not hating on other pizza places...I'm simply giving The District the recognition they deserve! The atmosphere is great. Two bars, good music, plenty of space. Plenty of beer choices and specialty cocktails. The menu is not overwhelmingly large. It's simple and they must stick to what they make well. My husband and I had some beer and fries before we dug into a delicious pizza. Fries were hot and crispy. I saw someone order sweet potato fries and I instantly wish I had too! The pizza: so damn good. The crust was perfectly browned with just a couple "burnt" spots on the bottom (my favorite!). It also held together very well rather than being soggy. The crust had a nice bite to it with an even better chewy-like texture. If you were to tear apart the top crust, you'd see those delightful dough bubbles. Yum! The sauce is so delicious and tasted as if someone just made it right before putting it on the pizza (did they?!? I would not be surprised). Slightly tangy with the perfect amount of fresh basil. Definitely stands out well against the fresh mozzarella. However, my husband and I added shredded mozzarella on our entire pie with pepperoni on half. I love fresh mozzarella but I love shredded more on my pizza. So, two variations of mozzarella on one pizza= perfection. And the half with pepperoni added the perfect amount of saltiness. Service was friendly and relatively prompt. We were in no rush, however so I cannot really speak for timing. But our server was always smiling and she even told the kitchen to add some extra cheese to our pizza (clearly she knew we loved cheese since we asked for more as a topping). She also suggested I taste a beer before ordering since I was hesitant, so that was awesome. I will most certainly be back. The creamy texture and flavor are perfect. I did feel the chicken was an afterthought but I could eat the grits for days. The benedict was pretty good. Service was friendly and prompt, and it was a nice departure from Boston brunch weekends to actually be able to sit down without waiting. This place is really good, and the food was awesome! We were in Providence for the day and looking for a lunch spot. The menu online looked like it was right up our alley, so we headed over. There is parking on site and we had no issue finding a spot or getting a table once we went inside. We got there around 2, and I was a little surprised that they still very strictly, would only serve brunch. I love my brunch like any other 20-something girl, but it wasn't clear to us online that we would only be able to get eggs. Luckily, our server let us know that they could likely work off the pizza and baked wings menu too, so we had a few extra options. First, let me start with the drinks. I had a.... wait for it.... BANANA PEPPER Hendrick's martini. I hate dirty martinis, but I had to try it, and I am so glad I did. It was delicious. We had the vodka pizza that is topped with mozzarella, banana peppers (leave me alone), mushrooms, sausage, arugula, and balsamic glaze. It came out looking fresh and delicious. The wood-fired crust was awesome. We also tried the asian chili wings, which I liked a lot. You could hardly tell they were baked instead of fried. Overall, we had a pretty great experience. I wish they had a window open or two (it was 68 degrees out) and that they would start their full-menu a little earlier in the day, but I am hoping to come back and try it on a Friday night for live music. read more

The atmosphere is very lively for a smaller space. They have live music, or music for a crowd that is younger than I am, but it's still enjoyable. I've been to The District many times in the last few years due to its convenient location and crowd-pleasing menu. In pre-COVID times, it was a great place for a business lunch. There's basically something for everyone with lots of salads, burgers, sandwiches, and pizza. There aren't a lot of vegan options but I've really enjoyed what I have been able to order here! The veggie burger is really good but it looks like they might have taken it off the menu since COVID. Both the regular fries and sweet potato fries are super crisp and tasty. If you dine in you'll be treated to the smell of the wood-burning pizza oven. I ordered a custom pizza with caramelized onions, olives, and no cheese. The small size ($15) is good for two people to split or one hungry person! The tomato sauce has a good tangy flavor and the thin crust is perfect (not too dark which sometimes happens with wood-fired pizza). I just noticed they just started offering vegan cheese since the last time I visited--I will have to try next time! I recommend the iced tea and the cocktails are pretty good as well. They have a full bar. Even before COVID they usually serve drinks in plastic cups which seems wasteful :( and also a bit casual. The service is friendly and fast. Excellent theme, eclectic atmosphere, immaculately clean, delicious grub, and a kind staff. The inside of this establishment is clean and sleek. We sat by the window and the restaurant had a cozy, small, yet big and wonderful atmosphere. The confession burger hit the spot and it's served with truffle fries. Found at the center of Providence's former Jewelry District it was upon finding Timmy's Legendary Grilled Pizza once again closed that a group of six re-routed to The District, a space self-described as "a pizza fanatics love child" most certainly not. Opened by Richard Storti in late 2016, a prior career in finance allowing to build a place built to please a workaday crowd as well as those out at night, it was entering through the empty Bar at 2:00pm that a table was offered, the menu largely focused on Sandwiches, Salads and Pizza soon to be found sold out of Meatballs which converted a four plate order into just an Appetizer, Side and Pie. Playing music a bit too loud, though not uncomfortably so, it was no more than five minutes before re-warmed Knots arrived alongside Tater Tots, the former small and dense though Sauce was fine while the latter was poorly stacked which led to Ketchup tipping over and making quite a mess. Fairly certain that Tots were also reheated from earlier, the texture crunchy but dry, it was perhaps fifteen minutes later that a simple Margherita arrived tableside, the Dough un-fermented and loaded with Semolina that added color but compromised consistency while Mozzarella was visibly overcooked and added Prosciutto cut too thick. read more

It came with a side of home fries as well which were good and crispy. My parents shared a meat lovers pizza and enjoyed it as well. Only complaint at the district was that the music was a little bit loud for me, but I was also hungover so that could be why. I was also disappointed they used plastic cups bc #savetheenvironment but maybe it was a covid thing. However, my breakfast sandwich outweighs my disappointments so it gets 5 stars. read more

I think I just had the best breakfast of my life. There was a minimal wait of about 10 minutes. Pretty good given it's a Sunday at 11AM and the place's popularity. We were seated by a very friendly hostess. We ordered our meals and chatted over really good coffee. After about 15 minutes, the waitress came by and gave us a FREE pizza, per the owner, for our patience. :) It was just 15 minutes! On a Sunday morning. We were wowed by this level of customer service. The complimentary pizza was delicious. Crust was light with a good chew. Sauce was perfect. Then, our incredible breakfasts. I had the hollandaise. It came with chourico and was served over warm delicious corn bread. Even the salad dressing was exceptional. Husband had chicken and waffles. Son had French toast made of Portuguese sweet bread. All of it:exceptional. The owner came by and thanked us for coming. Even the vibe and music was perfect. I can't remember a dining experience this on-point. We'll be back! read more

This new place down on south street is the definition of trendy! Wood beams and roof, brick walls, and industrial hanging Edison bulbs. The atmosphere is so cozy. They have 2 bars so hardly any waiting. And the waitresses have the cutest jean button ups! Music is nice, I always appreciate some Christmas music mixed in at this time of year. Some old school songs that everyone in the bar started singing. Very lively guests already! We came on the second night so they had a limited menu. What I love is that they gave us the full menus to look at so we know what to expect. We got the meatballs which were delicious and comes in a serving that could feed more than 3 people or more, the dip which could have used more bread, the Mac and cheese which was good, and the Asian wings which were phenomenal. The service was great. The waitresses excited about their job and very educated on the menu and what they will be offering in the future. Made sure we understood why we were receiving two menus. An absolutely wonderful crew. I will be coming back and I recommend this place to anyone and everyone! Only area to improve would be parking, not sure if they have a designated lot. read more

After a few weeks of homemade meals, we were ready for a change of pace. On Friday night we went for an early dinner at The District and had a great time. The restaurant was clean. There were only a few tables available due to COVID procedures, but we were able to sit by the window. Menus were accessible via QR code, and you could pay using a QR code on your receipt. The service was excellent and we were in and out pretty quickly. The Felony burger was the star of the meal. Two four oz beef patties, caramelized onions, fried egg, steak sauce, and cheddar cheese--YUM! My husband devoured it. The bourbon steak tips were solid but the dish felt a little confused. The jasmine rice and broccoli gave it a bit of an Asian flair but the marinade on the steak tips didn't really go. That said, my daughter had no problem polishing off about half my steak tips, some rice, and my husband's french fries! We will definitely be back again... and next time we are both getting Felony burgers! read more

Definitely an up and coming restaurant in Providence. I have never been unimpressed with the experiences I have had at the District and I encourage everyone in the Providence area to give it a go! The restaurant itself gets pretty packed on the weekend so I would encourage making a reservation if you can. There is a large selection of sandwiches, wood fired pizzas, and entrees on the menu and everything I have tried has been absolutely delicious. The ambiance is also great within the restaurant. There are two bars, one larger and one smaller and a decent collection of wooden dining tables. If you are familiar with Sweet Deals I would definitely be sure to check their website as the District often has $50 gift cards offered for $25 through their site. Don't even question it, just get this fantastic Pink ala Vodka Pizza. We arrived from CA on our way up to Boston and this was an amazing stop for lunch. I read about this pizza before arriving and thought it sounded good! Now, seriously it's my favorite pizza ever, and I've eaten a lot of pizza all over the world. The cheese, the balsamic, the spicy banana peppers and sausage, idk it just seriously all works and you should not miss this gem. Also, the service was incredibly good, so kind and helpful.
