The diner is so cute and, since we had a larger party (7), they took us to the back room and I was surprised how big the diner actually is! It's not just the little train car diner that you see when you first walk in! The host and waitress that we had were very kind and accommodating to our larger party. Stopped by this past Saturday and very glad that we did. This place was the perfect breakfast spot that helped escape the wintery aftermath of the snowstorm. Lots of options and all were terrific. My group had the pulled pork omelette, crab cakes Benedict and I had the stuffed french toast along with a side of hash. The hash was homemade and a perfect balance of potatoes and corned beef. I've only visited West Side Diner twice, once years ago, so this is based off my recent visit. It's cool that they kept the original diner-style seating, but also have an extended dining area as well. Food came out pretty fast and was pretty good. A lot of classic breakfast options. Happy Saturday peeps! Omg, woke up way too early this morning! lets do a quick short review. I took a ride over the Washington bridge to check out West side Diner. On street parking and a small parking lot. Outside dinning area too which I thought was pretty cool for a diner. Inside is nice and clean. I was there around 7 am so it was not busy yet but from what have read in reviews is that this pace gets real busy later in the morning. I wish I grabbed more pics but I will be back to take some more soon. - Eggs Benedict - just your standard diner eggs Benedict, eggs were packed fine, hollandaise was just ok along with the ham and English muffins. - ice coffee - I would say kind of watered down kin d of bummed me out. - home fries - I would say just standard home fries , although I loved the option she gave while ordering. You had your choice of home fries, shredded hash browns or a side of mixed fruit! Great idea! - side of corn beef hash - YES!!! real home made corn beef hash!!! this is a must-do in rhode island. i loved every second of the vintage interior, sassy swift service, and heartburn-inducing fried food. we waited for like 15min on a saturday at peak brunch time and sat at the counter top. our waitress was hilarious. i wanted hash browns with my food and it came with fries so she gave me both for fun. great tourist spot and make sure you're good with smelling like fried food on your clothes after! read more

This is a quintessential place in the design of a authentic modern diner. Six of us went for breakfast on a Monday and sat outside as the weather was perfect. Our server was very personable and attentive, helping us to choose our dishes. We ordered a variety of dishes, from pancakes and the eggs to different kinds of eggs Benedict. There were also a few side items including bacon. This and Modern Diner are two diners I like best in Providence. We only come here infrequently as it's away from our stomping grounds. Absolutely my new favorite breakfast place in Providence. We're new to the area and we've been all over town trying breakfast diners and ranking our favorites from first to last. We have a new first place winner! My husband loved the homemade hash and my pancakes were really top notch. The hash browns were cooked just right and even the bacon was spot on. Omg, West Side Diner was nothing short than incredible. It was top tier delicious! Me and my brother went here on Tuesday morning and what an experience this place was. First of all, the inside is composed of two parts. You have the front part, which is the original, classic American Diner, then you have a back part which is made up to be extras seating for the diner. Me and my brother sat in the retro diner part of it. The ambiance was really fun and spacious wise, it was a lot less cramped than your other traditional American diners. Regarding the service, it wasn't crowded at all when we went. So the service was pretty quick. Our waitress was on top of our drinks and kept coming back to ask how things were. Always a plus. Regarding what me and my brother got, well, to start, we each got coffees, I got hot and he got iced, then for food I got a corn beef hash omelet, which the corn beef hash was probably the best I've ever had! It was so flavorful and tender and just delicious! It then came with home fries (which I asked for well-done) and then I got a grilled English muffin as well. We also got an order of pancakes, and a bowl of oatmeal then my brother got biscuits and gravy, which I tried and we amazing. He also got a hash instead of home fries which the hash was really tasty too. Overall, this is 100% a diner that I will be back to. This little gem tucked in a neighborhood area not far from Federal Hill was a great find. Can not wait to visit again. Quaint diner which has probably been there since the 50's and has a true diner vibe. What makes it so great are the wait staff and food. Wait staff are efficient and friendly. We visited for breakfast recently and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Our server was new but very attentive and kind -- she did everything she could to make our visit pleasant. However, it took about an hour for our food to come out, and it was just for simple breakfast items (eggs, bacon, toast and home-fries). When we asked about the delay, we were told that the kitchen was backed up because of a large number of takeout orders. While we understand that takeout is important, the restaurant should prioritize guests dining in -- especially when they've been waiting so long for basic breakfast items. The menu also stated that you could substitute fruit for $1.50, but it didn't specify that the substitution applied only to home fries and not to bread. When I asked about the $4.79 charge on our bill our server checked with the manager (Sheryl), and we could clearly hear the manager raising her voice at the poor server over the question. It was uncomfortable to witness and completely unnecessary, especially since the confusion came from the menu being unclear -- not the server's fault. The manager never came over to apologize for the long wait or to clarify the misunderstanding. The least she could have done was honor the substitution or offer a simple apology. Instead, she chose to argue with her own staff within earshot of customers. The only bright spot of our visit was the server's professionalism despite being new and clearly under pressure. Management, however, needs serious improvement both in communication and in how they balance in-person service with takeout orders. read more

Booths in the diner are for parties of 2 or more only. * If you have 2+ in your party and want to sit in a booth, at least two of you (or the entire party?) must be there to be seated. Food was good but the service was so poor. It took at least 40 minutes to get our food and no one checked in on us once. Food finally came and it had so obviously been sitting there for so long. Seemed to be microwaved because steam was coming off the food but it was room temperature at best. Pancakes were cold. Waitress only started to check in on us after we were visibly annoyed. Finally when I asked for a box it looked like it had been sitting in a crypt for a century, dust and grime all over it. For such a small place there was an abundance of staff but maybe one or two people actually running food. This review relates to an order placed through a delivery service, but the review content relates only to the food quality. I ordered Hungry Man and side of Home Fries. The restaurant forgot the Home Fries. The Hungry Man was terrible, and I had to throw it away after my third bite of egg shell bits. Hungry Man: The scrambled eggs and hash (somehow) contained lots of little egg shell bits that were very gritty and sandy and caused me to throw away the dish. The hash itself appeared to be straight out of the can and disgusting. I requested that both the hash and hash browns be "cooked CRISPY, burn them please." Both were extremely undercooked. The only item that seemed to offer some redemption was the "short" stack of pancakes, which was quite large. Me and my family needed somewhere open early to have breakfast so we stopped here, the sign and exterior are super cute, the inside has a fun classic diner feel. Our server was nice for the most part, potentially a little annoyed at our 6:01 arrival but she warmed up quickly. The coffee was good, I ordered the Mediterranean omelette which came with LOTS of tomatoes and spinach. It was good but next time I'll try something else, too much spinach and not enough feta! The home fries were super tasty, nice and crispy and super tasty. And we'll, toast is toast, so that was good too! The entrance is on Westminster and upon opening the door you are promptly greeted and asked if you want the counter (barstools in the front part of the building) or a booth (also in the front). Other dining options include outside or in the back with tables and barstools at the bar. The staff is great. Several staff have been there for years and they are the reason we return. For the volume of customers that are served, they are fast and efficient. We have our favorites and always excited when we are seated in their area. I never know how to review diners, especially for breakfast dishes. I mean it's a diner breakfast. Everything is OK. Nothing is terrible, nothing is wonderful. The service is OK. The experience is OK. The eggs, corned beef hash and toast were OK. I guess I'm being a bit close minded about diner breakfast in general but there is nothing here that is truly unique or will "blow you away". This is a diner that serves alcohol. SAY WHAT?! Aside from a short stack with a mimosa, what else could you want?! Okay, more details. This place is deceptively large. In the front it looks like a small boxy diner (like modern diner or the seaplane), with round high top bar stools and funky booths, but we sat in the back ("there's a back?!") which was a huge space that looked more like a hipster restaurant...cool art on the walls, a second bar area, etc. I came exclusively for pumpkin drinks--I was told they had a pumpkin mimosa, which was false, but they did have pumpkin flavored "adult" coffees. I had the pumpkin mocha which I would not recommend (an odd mix of flavors), but I liked the spirit behind the offering. My friend and I split a Portuguese Benedict and side of hash, and it was delish. The butternut squash hash (or sweet potato?) was especially great. I think I saw a note on the menu saying their hash is homemade, although I'm skeptical because it resembles the canned kind...but either way it tastes really good. And for the prices they're charging, it was a great deal. Definitely a great brunch spot to add to the list! I thought my food was going to come like the stock picture I think next time I have to tell them how I want my eggs and I didn't realize that they were going to be shredded hash browns underneath it so I couldn't even finish it it was so much food and it was so so good but I'm not a lover of scrambled egg so I'll make sure that I ask for sunny side up the next time. The hash was wonderful it wasn't stringy and hard to eat or overcooked it was soft and so good oh my goodness. I think one other thing that I'll ask when I get I think it was huevos something I forgot what it was called anyway I'm going to make sure I get some salsa with it because I had some here at the house and it just made it extra good I actually ate it for breakfast and I fell asleep I was so full so now I'm having the rest of it for dinner. This was not the greatest experience. I feel I was eating in a Sorority house. All the staff were gossiping loudly and on their phones. Some were eating on the counter - like their shifts were done. My waitress didn't even know the specials. What the hell!!! The greetings were lackluster for all customers walking in! Then the music was a women empowerment channel! Gave this a second try after visiting during the summer, it was nice to sit outside and chat with the owner. I ordered the Eggs Florentine during the summer, not bad but the beloved Hollandaise sauce was bland and needed lemon. Fast forward to this week, I dropped my car next door for a quick oil change and decided to try it again. Sat at the bar and waited for service, finally I was asked if I wanted coffee, nothing else. I asked god milk and fake sugar, I think she went to the moon and back. I ordered poached eggs over home fries. The woman next to me ordered pancakes before I ordered. So mine arrived before hers, which we thought was strange. My eggs were swimming in water, so when I tried to take them out of the dish the yolks broke. Which was the reason I asked for them over the home fries. The home fries were hot and cold, probably had mixed some in. The bigger issue was the gallon of salt on them. The pancake lady's pancakes arrived but no syrup. She called the waitress over to ask for syrup and waited, waited. I could see it and asked her if she wanted me to get it, she politely declined. No one came by to ask me if I wanted more coffee or if everything was OK. They may be short staffed but give me a break, the owners should get off his butt and help clean tables that were dirty the entire I was there.
