Troop PVD has been on my list for a long time so I was super excited when I went on Thursday morning. Brunch is on Thursday & Friday 10am-4pm and Saturday & Sunday 9am-4pm. It was still early so only 1 other table was occupied, but while we were there more people started to come in. Troop PVD has outside and inside seating. It is very spacious inside and there are murals and sign language on the walls, cool decor like boomboxes, and the bar seats had mini skateboards as backs. The menu can be accessed by scanning the QR code. Our server, Dan, was very friendly and informed us what items they had run out of. I ordered the fall sangria and the banh mi sandwich. The sandwiches are served with fries or homies (home fries). The fall sangria was made of red wine, apple brandy, bourbon, triple sec, orange, cranberry, lemon, and lime. It definitely tasted like fall in a cup. The banh mi had braised pork belly, pate, cilantro, carrots, daikon, jalapeños, and spicy mayo. The bread for the banh mi was crispy and fresh. The braised pork belly was packed with flavor and overall the whole banh mi was very yummy. The fries were very crispy. My husband ordered the boozy coffee milk where you can choose your base spirit and milk​. He asked Dan what base spirit he recommends and he chose Smirnoff Vanilla. The boozy coffee milk was very creamy. For entree, he had that chicken sandwich. It was a tall stacked sandwich with buttermilk marinated fried chicken, bacon, sriracha, maple jam, red onion, arugula on a cheddar biscuit. It was very yummy too. I am so glad I had the opportunity to check out Troop PVD. Definitely worth checking out for brunch. read more

NOT a good spot for vegan or vegetarians. This spot has cool art work and eclectic atmosphere. The staff (Dan) was very helpful in seating my group, but not much else to be desired. I asked about substituting an item and was told I can remove items but can't add items. I then ordered the veggie taco with no mushrooms. I was then told can't remove the mushrooms because it's "the star" of the dish. I responded that I can't eat mushrooms and was told the chef takes pride in his dishes. It's a taco!!! And apparently the recipe was more important than feeding a paying customer. Also a complete contradicted to what I was told. So I ordered fries. What could have been a $50 tab including drinks became $6. Also, the food my group received was completely bland. The fried chicken was bland with a paprika or allspice taste assuming was in the flour, but no flavor in the meat. They need to change the oil because it smelled up the place and got into our clothes. I will not patron there again. read more

A great brunch spot! I was here with a large group for an event, so we had a set menu to choose from. I got the classic breakfast, which was delicious. I wasn't a huge fan of the sausage, so I would try the bacon next time instead. Whatever you do, make sure you get a cheddar biscuit. They were amazing. We also had some French toast, which was delicious. The service was impeccable, especially for a large group. Went this past weekend for my besties birthday brunch. Reservation was at 11 and I was on time. As I wait for my friend I told the host it was her birthday and if they did anything special. She said she would check but never heard anything about it again. I get seated and we already had water there. Very nice. Someone came and took my drink order. Okay, promising. Someone who I thought was our waitress took our food order. Birthday girl order regular Egg and Bacon breakfast with 1 slice of French Toast. I ordered a Chorizo Omelet and a side of Bacon and Sausage as well as an English Muffin toasted with butter to share. We were so busy catching up we did not notice how much time had passed. it was about 11:45 by now. Now we notice. Our waitress never came back. But someone else was sent to check on us. We ordered more drinks. Food came at 12:20. Here are my issues with this place. And before I go on just want to state we kept it professional and never got angry or belligerent with anyone. 1. Waited way too long for food. No one came and tole us they were short staffed because had they done that we would not have been so upset. 2. Food comes and it is not even hot. 3. Cheese in Omelet was not melted and where is the Chorizo? 4. Birthday girl never got her French Toast. We knew they forgot it because it took too long to bring it back. by the time they did she passed and said she did not want it anymore. 5. Asked for a box. We told the next lady to visit us (I think we had a total of 4 different people and we still did not know who our waitress was) the issues and she tried to be nice and told us how busy it was. it was not that busy but the issue is they only had 1 cook. A second one did arrive but the damage was done. Then a gentleman comes over and asks us our problems and we told him. He asked if he could get us anything because of the wait. We said no thank you. He then said well I will take some items off because of what happened. I asked if he was the Manager and he wasn't but never said who he was. He walked away and we thought the gesture was nice. He comes back and said the whole thing was on him. We said thank you and he cleared our table. We had decided that maybe a tip for our waitress would be nice but she never came over....and we still never knew who she was. The food is really about what you like. I was excited to see what I knew were house made sausages but they tasted like meatloaf. My opinion. Also my opinion is that nothing really had any flavor and the famous cheddar biscuits tasted like flour. Best thing on the plate was the bacon. Now that was good! I won't be going back there because it was a little too many mishaps and on my friends special day even though I appreciated the young mans gesture. I was so excited to finally go to Troop because I had never been and always wanted to go and looked forward to a good time. Pretty sad! read more

Went with a group, no reservations; the place only had 3-4 fulled tables with a lot of free tables. When we checked in the waiter told us "i will have to check" when we asked for a table for 7...seemed weird with all the free tables. He sat us 5 minutes later. Everyone ordered drinks and took some time to look over menu. Waiter was very patient; some people took a long time and one complained on salty foot but waiter stayed patient. After an event at RiffRaff my family stopped by for dinner and couldn't have been happier with our experience. First of all they served me and my daughter superb mocktails - my daughter asked for citrus and spicy, and I went with whiskey sour like, and we were both very happy with the results - the bartender even checked in with us to make sure we were happy. The food really knocked my socks off. Plenty of vegetarian options. My daughter went with the street noodles, which reminded me of why I used to really like pad Thai. This version had a great citrus lime element and wonderful texture along with savory cooked noodles. Tofu was so well cooked my entire family commented on it. My Bahn Mi had bread close to French and really nailed the texture, jalapeño, and texture (carrots) in a nice package. Very good. We also got two of the salads which my family liked. In the space formerly occupied by Cuban Revolution the decor is loud and fun with a great music vibe. Service was really smart and nice. We will definitely be back. read more

We went to troop at 2:30pm on a Sunday, we were glad to have made a reservation as it was quite busy - a super fun, turn up vibe. The hostess warned us the kitchen and bar were behind due to a party of 20 that just got seated - we appreciated the heads up and were seated. The warning was actually not necessary, we got great, very attentive service. We ordered a bottle of cava with OJ for $30, frankly a great alternative to 'bottomless" specials with wine of dubious quality. I ordered the chicken sandwich, it was very good - super hearty and dense. My sister ordered the bahn mi and loved it. We asked for garlic aioli on the side which they've apparently taken off the menu -- the chimichurri aioli was a delicious sub in for dipping fries in! Troop seems to be a high quality low traffic brunch location. We were able to walk in with a group of 3 on a Friday after Christmas and get seated immediately without a reservation. The staff were very friendly and helped with menu questions. The food was very good. I had the fried chicken biscuit sandwich and the table split a pancake. It sounds ridiculous to split a pancake, but these are notably sized pancakes and splitting one between 3 people was a perfect way to balance the sweet savory brunch dilemma. I didn't usually give scathing reviews, but rudeness from anyone really gets to me. This was my first time there, and apart from the cool murals, it was a really crummy experience. A group of us went there and we were told which areas were set aside for us to gather out of the way on the sides (it's not very big in there for groups). Naturally, people headed to the bar, and some of us just started inadvertently chatting there. Well, the waiter/food runner comes from the kitchen with food and yells, "MOVE! MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!," and on his way back gruffly tells us to keep the space between the bar and the center tables clear. So we moved out of that narrow aisle and in between some EMPTY tables. Not long after, that waiter comes back and practically yells at us again to say we can't stand there because we have to keep that area clear for people coming in. I think one table out of those five was occupied and we weren't near them, and there was no one waiting at the door, it was not a busy night. Again, the place isn't very big so I'm not upset about moving, but he was so incredibly rude to us. There was a similar incident earlier in the night where he shouted at people to move to escort a girl to table. He just could have asked nicely every time! We didn't mind moving! To top it up off, as the kitchen was cooking hot peppers, we got a mild pepper spray in the air causing everyone to start coughing. Also, good and drinks are overpriced ($10 for a coke and a pineapple juice, $18 for a single bland monkfish skewer appetizer with no sides). The chicken nugs and fries were good, though for an affordable $11. read more

Food/Drinks: The food was okay. No one was truly impressed with the brunch food in our group mainly because it was a bit dry and felt a tad bland for my liking. I will say I will have to come during dinner to truly rate the food because although the brunch wasn't my favorite it's not fair to say all there food isn't worth it. The mimosas at least when we went was one champagne bottle, and a small amount of juice and it was a bit costly compared to other locations who also provide mimosas. The the crème brûlée was small but very delicious. Location: This place is sooo cool, artsy and unique, and definitely a place where you can take some pretty nice photos. I would definitely say is a good place for a first date. Very youthful, and up to date. They have parking in the back of the location and also street parking. Service: Our server was okay. She wasn't as attentive but did what she had to do. Didn't check in, but that was just one experience I will have to come again around a later time to truly get a feel of this. I went to Troop with my husband and brother. He had never been there and wanted to try it out. We went on a Friday evening, a little later around 9:00/9:30 PM. They had a DJ and living art. It was great to have the music in the background. We had wings, squid, onion rings, and the beef teriyaki steak. The food was great! This was my first time to Troop PVD and damn did they deliver. First up the Queer O Meter scored an 11! Off the charts friendly staff and welcoming space. Next up the food. Well dannnng I almost am at a loss for words. Ok ok not really I'm pretty verbose I know. The spread was a buttermilk chicken sandwich on a cheese biscuit, a banh mi sandwich, French toast, sunny side up egg and the burger topped with an egg on English muffin. All served with a side of fries. And we got an app - honestly I don't even know what it was called but I'll call it seasoned pork and stuff on some round thing that was to die for. Perfectly seasoned and presentation spot on. I had the banh mi - it came on a soft long roll that had some rock salt on the top. That just added an extra pop to the already deliciously assembled sandwich. The fries are home style, seasoned and served hot. Our waiter, sadly I didn't catch his name, was attentive, friendly, accommodating, and knowledgable. He was the icing on a cake of a day. We opted to sit outside even though it was about to rain and we almost finished before the skies opened. But all in all a great little space. We all got an adult beverage. Bloody Mary, sangria and a mojito. All very good. My bloody came with bacon. Uhhhh YEAHHH we like! I'm a bloody snob and if y'all reach out I can give some tips that'd, in my humble opinion, knock your mix out of the park. However that said, I would order it again so yeah it was good! My only advice would be that if you don't like loud music, the "eat and beats brunch" wouldn't be for you. Or maybe they have music all the time? I'm unsure. I came here for brunch with a friend last weekend. We were sat at the bar, and the service was great. The bartenders were attentive and made sure to get our orders and anything else we needed very quickly. The ambiance is really unique with all of the hiphop music and interesting artistic decor. My friend and I both had the biscuit fried chicken sandwich, and the portion sizes are ENORMOUS. The chicken itself was really nicely done--the chicken was super moist and the crispiness maintained itself in the sandwich. However, that was as impressed as it got. The biscuit itself is okay, but it's so large and heavy that at some point I just decided to eat the chicken on its own. The sauces they used were nice, but weren't super outstanding. I also got a coffee milk, which was pretty standard. I'd be back if a friend wants to return, but I probably won't seek it out on my own. It does have a great vibe, so I could see the appeal for doing a large group brunch here. read more

Woah- such a surprise find while visiting Providence!!! Living in NYC has made me such a food snob but I love when I find amazing local spots in different cities! Troop is a Black owned street food themed restaurant. The inside of the building itself is covered with amazing graffiti art, unique seating, and other fixtures and the menu consists of delicious street foods from around the world. Was dining solo and ended up eating at the bar. I arrived around 6 and the restaurant was about halfway full at that point and progressively got more full throughout my visit. If you're dining with a larger party I highly suggest a resy, just to be safe! The bartender who served me was so helpful and he gave me plenty of recs to try. In fact, I literally ordered everything he recommended ha. To start I ordered the Uruguayan chorizo meatballs and they were SO flavorful. The bartender let me know that the chef is from Uruguay and the love oozing out of this dish was apparent. Then I ordered the Banh mi which comes with pork belly as the primary protein. The pork belly was juicy and tender and full of flavor. The Banh mi came with a mountain of fries that were piping hot and crispy. For drinks I ended up sipping on the Smoke n' Flowers- a cocktail made with mezcal, tequila, hibiscus, and raspberry. Absolutely delicious and so well balanced.
