I moved into the neighborhood and have started coming in regularly- mainly for the chilaquiles. Not surprised that lots of local foodies love this place. A few mentions on Reddit claim that their Mexican pancakes are some of the best pancakes in the area- havnt tried them yet but came here to see if anyone else mentioned them. I wasssss surprised to see such poor yelp ratings (- seems like the bad ones are from a decade ago)...So here's my 5 stars to try and balance the score. Ppl here are friendly, service is fast (Although I can't say I dine in often). And if you get off a late Amtrak train and hungry/ they're open pretty late. This is a really interesting Diner...because of you think of a Diner, you think Pancakes, Omelettes and Egg dishes...which Capitol Hill Diner has, but it also has a varied Mexican menu, where you can order tacos, nachos, enchiladas, tortas, etc. I like their Combo 7, which comes with rib eye steak, eggs and fries. This Diner has a bit of an identity crisis: it's also a taqueria serving a range of Mexican and Central American specialties. They stay busy serving customers indoors and sending orders out for delivery. I recommend sitting at a booth and watching the lively activity as the staff hustles through brunch service. Go team! Food-wise, can't complain: I stayed south of the border, feasting on chicken enchiladas, birria tacos, and a chorizo special that was unique and wonderful. We ordered combo 2: eggs, sausage, home fries and toast, the sausage they use is very good and the home fries are seasoned well. We also ordered a combo 3, eggs, corned beef hash, home fries and toast, I did ask for the corned beef hash to be well done/crispy, it wasn't. Everything was good but again .. average breakfast food. I just relocated back to RI after 35+ years in California. I had to go to the post office on Smith St and noticed the menu board at the diner next door. An unassuming place, but I just had the best Carnitas tacos there. Plain, simple street tacos- great Carnitas, onions, and cilantro. Perfect tortillas, red salsa, and a wedge of lime to top it off. I felt like I was at my old home! Nice people at the counter, very friendly. I can't wait to go back and travel through the menu, but it's going to be hard to top the Carnitas tacos. read more

I have never been to a breakfast place where the owner does not allow the staff to make extra coffee. There can't EVER be two pots! So often you're in a morning rush and the waitstaff (who are very nice BTW) say we just put on another pot. Then, in the history of American diner's this is the only one I have ever been too that ran out of sausage. Ran out of sausage? What's next, no eggs? It was close to my office and I just couldn't take it any more. There are other greasy spots to have your breakfast and morning Joe. Great little diner! Both the pancakes and French toast were really good. More flavorful than i can describe. Light and fluffy, and apparently offered w several upgrade variations from choc chips to fruit. Scrambled eggs are real, not diluted or from mix, and you can really taste the difference, and are offered w cheese if you like. Home fries are also offered plain or with peppers and onions. We chose the addition and weren't disappointed. Servers were exceptionally friendly. As to the coffee comment, they did have to make a pot of decaf, but I don't mind waiting for a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Definitely found my favorite neighborhood spot and look forward to trying the lunch menu another time. read more

Well, we went here for a cheap breakfast, which was what we got. The food was pretty good. For a diner, the portions weren't huge. The service frankly sucked, and the waitress (and then in turn) were fighting me over a discount I had through my credit card. It was so cheap, it wasn't worth arguing over, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I noticed the owner also got into an argument with another patron. I have fond memories of hitting up diners just like this one with my Dad for breakfast growing up in Worcester, MA. Breakfast specials are between $5 -$6.50, which is totally awesome. It is super inexpensive And the food is really good! for $10 we got 2 pieces of French toast, 2 eggs, home fries, 2 pieces of bacon AND a cup fruit!! That's unheard of for $10 in providence. Also the portions are just right, you get just enough food to feel nice and full, but not too much to feel like you're going to die. The service was great, the waitresses are so sweet. Just stopped in here for breakfast. after helping my daughter move into Providence. The food was good, but the waitress was terrific. She was accommodating, nice, and just terrific. This is a small place with decent food, easy parking, and about a 5 minute drive from Home Depot, Walmart where you will certainly end up when moving someone in. Where do I even start about my "experience" at the Capitol Hill Diner in Providence Rhode Island. If you are looking for not only a mystery meal, but appalling customer service and a scuzzy place to bring your family, choose the Capitol Hill Diner. This would be the first and only time I have written a review about a restaurant, if you can even consider this place such thing, but I felt it necessary and feel so strongly about telling you why you should pass up the opportunity to eat here. It was also the first and only time I have not tipped a waitress and I don't even feel bad about it. After walking into the front door with friends and realizing there was no real structure, we sat ourselves and waited for service. We were straight up ignored for 45 minutes. A "waitress" wearing baby phat pajama pants finally waltzed over to ask us what we would like to order. After waiting another half hour for her to bring over our drinks, which consisted of water, coffee and orange juice, she continued to tell us we were wrong when she brought over the wrong drinks for us. The pancakes were soaked in meat grease while they were cooking. The bacon looked and smelled like Beggin Strip dog treats. It was definitely fake meat. The eggs were burnt. The home fries were undercooked, wet, and bright orange. The sausage links looked like dead rats. My friend is still feeling sick from the little food she actually ate 12 hours ago. The floors, walls, and ceilings were covered in grime. I thought I was going to obtain AIDS while using the bathroom, which had a giant hole through the center of the door and no paper towels or air dryer to dry my hands with. The pictures on the walls were crooked and looked like they hadn't been touched or dusted since 1972. The waitress was straight up shameful. She would speak perfect English, then when we would confront her about the 11 things that were wrong with our order, she would pretend like she didn't understand us and walk away, avoiding our confrontation at all costs. I had to ask her on 3 separate occasions what types of sauces they had for me to dip my food in, and on the third time I asked, she said "oh yeah, we don't have any sorry." My friends and I didn't even eat our meals. We left it on the table. First time I have not taken my leftovers home with me in my whole life. We were in the diner for a total of 2 and a half hours. What an incredible waste of my day. I couldn't make this up if I wanted to. Do not take the people you care about to this pigpen. The owner of Capitol Hill Diner should be ashamed of themselves for providing such a disappointing experience to harmless people trying to eat and enjoy their favorite meal of the day. My recommendation? This place should be shut down due to health reasons and everyone should go to the IHOP down the road instead. read more

I Had a wonderful experience there for my first time the staff were very nice & genuine. The food was made just how I like It, usually I am very picky on how it's done but was perfect which I was impressed about.
