a menu for a mexican restaurant
    Robert S.

This is a really interesting Diner...because of you think of a Diner, you think Pancakes, Omelettes and Egg dishes...which Capitol Hill Diner has, but it also has a varied Mexican menu, where you can order tacos, nachos, enchiladas, tortas, etc. I like their Combo 7, which comes with rib eye steak, eggs and fries. I do like my steak....juicy and big. The inside is a bit basic, almost too basic, but you come here for the quick meal, quick breakfast and Go.

Cheap, tasty breakfast. Authentic-tasting Mexican options and good American counterparts. Saw the waiters go out of their way to make the wait pleasant for parties with kids and the cooks make them special shaped pancakes during our time there. Small place with some booth and bar seating, some parking on the side.

This place was recommended for breakfast by a local. The appearance upon walking in ... makes you want to turn around and leave. The food was good, basic breakfast food. We ordered combo 2: eggs, sausage, home fries and toast, the sausage they use is very good and the home fries are seasoned well. We also ordered a combo 3, eggs, corned beef hash, home fries and toast, I did ask for the corned beef hash to be well done/crispy, it wasn't. Everything was good but again .. average breakfast food. We noticed that they had a large Mexican food menu as well with very well priced items.

Capitol Hill Diner is a great local spot for breakfast all day or lunch. The fish&chips is my favorite. The batter is light and the house made onion rings are excellent. The owner and staff are welcoming and accomidating. A must stop when in the area.

Place is nothing to look at from the outside but walk past and the smells of the food is amazing and sucks you in. Very nice satff and fast service too. It's away from the College town and a walk past Capital Hill but well worth it.!!

Amazing food. Just like home cooking and the atmosphere is like being a family members house for a meal.

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

It feels like her place in the best way -- warm, proud, hands-on. Pastries are legit. Super buttery, flaky enough to make a mess, clearly baked that morning. No sad, sitting-around-all-day vibes. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and that tomato jam needs to be illegal. Sweet, savory, slightly tangy -- it completely makes the sandwich. I kept trying to figure out how to recreate it at home. Not happening. Crispy chicken sandwich was properly seasoned and not dried out (why is that so hard for some places?). Fries were solid too -- crispy, not limp. And the kale salad with roasted chickpeas and chicken made me feel like I had my life together. Fresh, simple, and actually satisfying. It's one of those places you stumble into while traveling and then immediately start googling whether you can justify going back the next day.

We were greeted when we entered and told to sit any where. It was a chilly, twent-something degree, January afternoon during our visit and trust me when I say there is *zero* insulation in those walls. Guests were wearing hats and sweater inside. Do dress warmly if visiting in winter. The menu has lots on offer. We chose a couple of burgers which come with fries or coleslaw or pasta salad or potato salad. So options. I ordered a regular burger which allears to be a premade patty, cooked 'well done'. This is literally a burger on a bun. No mayo, mustard, salt, pepper, etc. Add lettuce & tomato or cheese for a dollar each. Ketchup was brought to the table, but if you want some other condiment, so ask. My companion ordered the southern, aka bacon cheese burge. This also has no condiments so do be sure to specify. Fries are tasty, crispy outside, fluffy inside and delivered hot. The Caeser salad was fresh cut lettuce with a nice amount of mild dressing, crunchy croutons and grated cheese. A very nice side salad portion. The waitress was friendly and capable. Restrooms are updated and clean. Prices reasonable. Standard diner fare and 100% old school diner vibes.

It's not a gimmick, but a nod to the seaplanes that once landed on the working river across the street. Vintage jukeboxes at every booth complete the authentic, nostalgic vibe. The mushroom omelet was cooked to perfection and served with fresh red-potato home fries and multigrain toast. Coffee was classic diner fare. The massive Rodeo Burger came on a soft roll, topped with cheese, bacon, and onion rings, with a side of perfectly mashed red potatoes that tasted homemade. Our server, Stephanie, was outstanding--friendly, attentive, and clearly someone who enjoys what she does. Her positive energy made the entire experience better.

When we walked in, the staff told us to grab a table anywhere we liked. Inside, there are about 10 tables, bar stools facing the kitchen, and decor on the walls like pictures of the staff and famous people and unique statues. Outside, there are three tables as well. A few tables were occupied on a Wednesday afternoon. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and my husband ordered steak and eggs and a coffee milk. We didn't have to wait very long for the cheeseburger and the steak and eggs to come out on colorful light plates. Unfortunately, the greasy fries came about 15 minutes later and I was almost done with my cheeseburger by the time they came. The steak and eggs were a big portion; there were 2 pieces of steak, 2 eggs cooked how you like, potatoes, and bread. My husband really enjoyed his meal. The cheeseburger was a typical diner cheeseburger, but the meat was a little dry for my own personal taste. I did enjoy the sesame bun. Maybe I should have tried their pancakes or more breakfast type dishes. After completing our meal, we bought our yellow order receipt to the cashier. Our whole meal came to be $24.84 prior to tip which is a great price. If you are interested, you should visit Louis Family Restaurant just to try it for yourself and check it out since "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" was shot here and it was mentioned in a episode of "The Afterparty," the Apple TV murder mystery and comedy.
