Went to the crocodile for Latin night on 2/11 with my friends for a night out. Venue was underwhelming and dirty. Bought our first round of drinks no problem, went upstairs and got another overpriced $15 drink that's lightly poured and was harassed by the bartender because my tip wasn't "good enough" was told by the bartender "I'm not pouring your ass a drink again if you're not going to add a good tip" I said "excuse me?" Because I was shocked, I thought I had misheard him, nope he responded with "you're lucky I don't take the one I just poured back." I was appalled. Long story short just save yourself some money and go over to Sarajevo for Latin night on Friday's, its much better. read more

Great small music venue in the heart of Seattle. Five dollar late-night pizza specials, great draft beer, great service. Wasn't able to see a band here, but from everyone I talked to and the reviews that I've read this is probably the best downtown spot for small rock shows. Awesome venue for hip hop shows! I hadn't been to a show here before, but I definitely felt it was more intimate than the likes of Showbox SODO and The Showbox. I also appreciated the 21+ experience being right near the stage as opposed to The Showbox, where you're stuck in the back. Well drinks were as good as anywhere and came in at $6 each, which I'm ok with paying. They also had at least 10 beers on draft, which is pretty extensive for a concert venue. There is a patio for smokers that's located in a place such that they don't have to miss any of the music, which I'll take their word for it when they say they appreciate it. As far as the acoustics of the place, it definitely caters to the low and mid range music types. The bass definitely hits hard without drowning out the vocals of the artists. One song had a guitarist that I felt was drowned out by the bass, but that may have been the fault of those producing the show. read more

The reopening of the Crocodile Cafe can be compared to the following: - Turning your pillow over - A Phoenix rising from the ashes - The return of Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler OK, maybe its not as epic, but you get the gist. The new layout is even more intimate. The acoustics, decent. The bar, more accessible. The vantage points, numerous. The bathrooms...granite, smooth tiles, pearl porcelain, so fresh and so clean! The website, now up to 2.0 standards! I loved, cherished and miss the charm of the old Croc. I am just happy its back to add to my monthly show rotation. i've attended the 'dimelo' themed nights for the last 4 months. they are so much fun. this last month they had their first experience w two dance floors instead of just one which led to the team slightly miscoordinating a couple things including ticket sales. the line was unbelievably long for my friends that tried to arrive at 11pm. I got there w other friends at 10pm and had no problem. the floor was empty for a while and it quickly picked up. the drinks during these events are fairly priced and the bathrooms are always pretty clean. i'd recommend this venue for this themed night for folks. it's really fun and spacious. the team running the space always seems to be well aware of the surroundings which help us stay safe. good latin music experience through "dimelo" here. read more

Fantastic music venue when you see the right act. For a small concert hall, it has a lot of floor space, and they section off the main dance floor such that you usually have enough room around you to dance with your partner (if applicable). Prices are in general super cheap for the amount of entertainment you receive. Check it out if you're traveling through! Drinks are reasonably priced and flavorful - the food is surprisingly good too! Pizza comes with a crispy crust right out of the wood fired oven the have in the bar area. No need to find a different place for grub if you're seeing a show! read more

The Bar: Came in early and sat at the bar and had a nice pizza. The bartenders and staff (which there seemed to be a lot of) were extremely friendly and talkative. Maybe this old east coaster is just naive to the "niceness" and "talkativeness" of people out here compared to back east, but I instantly felt welcomed and like I had been coming for years. Great to meet a couple of the guys and chat it up with them. I was gunning for the meatball sub but at the last minute the allure of the brick oven and the kneading of fresh d'oh convinced me i should get a pie. Glad I did. Very good pizza for a bar, and a good price as well. Incidentally, the bartender told me they actually have 312 stashed somewhere in the back despite not displaying the bottle out front. (312 is a fantastic Chicago beer for those of you not in the know) The Venue: The show was most definitely not anywhere near sold out. I was guest listed and had no idea what to expect from the band or the venue, but I would definitely say for a non-sold out show this place is fantastic. The crowd was intimate and into the music. No douchebaggery or annoying drunks. I guess this varies from show to show, but I liked the venue a lot and look forward to future shows here. The next may be as soon as a couple days! read more

I've been here a few times and it's one of my favorite places to have happy hour at! Cheap $4 pizzas for happy hour will not disappoint. It isn't huge, so if you come with a couple friends and you're hungry, buy 3 or 4 different kinds to get full (unless you plan on filling up with drinks instead). For what they price at HH, the pizza is great quality! Good ingredients and never disgustingly greasy. The atmosphere is grungy and very lax. They play old hip hop, punk/alt. the service is great and very friendly. Happy hours are from 4-7pm and 12-2am. Parking is scarce on the weekends.. To the management - the female bartender with the shaved head is condescending to your customers and patronized me. A few of your reviews complain about abusive staff, I think it's time to take a look at who you employ. I had an amazing time at the Jacquees concert. The bartenders were so nice and friendly. We were able to order food. We got like this sliced up pepperoni and cheese calzone you dip in red sauce. There are two bars to order from one inside the main room with the stage and another out front. There are multiple bathrooms and plenty of security. I was so close to the stage and it's a super tall stage so everyone can see. There was plenty of street parking. Only down fall is the homeless people outside. read more

Ooh la la. The Crocodile is a supposed landmark music venue in Seattle. Having not visited this venue in its previous incarnation, I decided to give the revamped venue a shot. I came here to see Emilie Simon, a popular French electropop artist, who is little known here in the U.S. So it is c'est tragique that I did not stay to see her show. It was a work night y'know and I had to drag myself back to Bellevue for some shut eye. Doors for the show opened at 8 pm, yet the opening act, which was the lovely Butterfly Boucher (pronounced voucher with a b) did not go on until 9:30 and Emilie was slated to start the set at 10:45 pm apparently. I should have probably expected that concerts generally never start on time, except for at Bumbershoot from my experience. I did see Butterfly's set however and it was good. The stage is a bit small, actually perhaps smaller than The Triple Door even. The lighting and sound was pretty good. You have a decent view of the stage from most anywhere in the venue. There is also a balcony, though on this night no one was up there. As for drinks, they do have a decent bar. I got a Fat Tire pint for $5 bucks which was handed to me in a plastic cup. It was good and the only thing to amuse myself while I waited an hour for the show to start. The Crocodile is a fair music venue. I just would have liked to have seen the entire show. Not a bad venue at all. Can't believe I've never been here before. The ticket buying process was easy at their box office (loved the girl working there- she had the best tattoo I've ever seen - her dad's classic car on her arm, and I usually hate tattoos), Went to see T Mills and Rixton - I went up to the bar while the girl went front row on the floor - it was hotter than hell in the entire place (it had been 90 during the day). They definitely should invest in a few more big industrial fans! Staff was super friendly and did there jobs well. Sound was good. Would not hesitate to come back here to see a show - also, could you put in some more (bench) seating against the back wall for us old people that need to sit!?!? read more

ABUSIVE & RACIST STAFF!!! I went here on a Thursday night with a couple of coworkers, after work. I am in my late 30's and I recently started drinking so I don't know a lot about whiskeys in general (I am not sorry for that, I was busy in life making choices that gives me a secure lifestyle in a city like Seattle, and drinking, obviously wasn't featuring in my priorities). I was judged and discriminated against for not knowing enough about whiskey and the waitress treated me like shit, called me a druggie, and said that I must've popped pills because I asked her to tell me the whiskeys that they have (since it wasn't listed in their menu) and told me to never come back to crocodile. I was in awe throughout this evening just wondering wth did i do to deserve to be treated like this. After reading the reviews here, I can so resonate with the what went down with me. A shitty business hiring the crappiest of people as staff is what's wrong with this place! I am contacting the Stranger and I am going to make sure that this gets published in at least a local newspaper. A great venue for smaller concerts. Went here with a couple of friends on a Saturday and it was packed. There's two bars, one separate from the music stage, and one by the stage. Drinks were pretty expensive for getting it in a small, plastic cup. Plus side at the end of the bar, they had a water jug where you can pour your own cups of water. Very convenient. I had a really good time at the show, as some times a smaller space can make a concert more intimate and all the groups sounded great. read more

The Crocodile is, hands down, my favorite concert venue in Seattle. The acoustics are far superior to what you'll find at similarly sized Neumo's, and I'm yet to encounter a sound engineer here who cranks the music up so loud that the speakers crackle and you fear you might go deaf. The stage is very appropriately elevated such that you can hang out at the back (near the bar) and still enjoy the show. There's a little wooden drink ledge adjacent to the bar (behind the sound engineer's booth) which is an ideal location since you can even rest your drinks somewhere while enjoying your clear view of the stage, so get here early if you want to snag a spot there. If you get here way too early before doors open, you can hang out in their actual back bar and grab some pizza/drinks. The staff will let you transfer drinks to plastic cups if you want to move to the stage area from the back bar. Speaking of drinks, they're super reasonably priced for a concert venue. $5 beers and stiff $8 cocktails? Color me impressed! It all comes together to result in this being the coolest place to catch a show in this city. read more

I don't understand how the reviews for this venue are so good. Maybe Seattle's tolerance for poor-to-mediocre accommodations are simply too high. * Staff: A- The staff are a mixed lot, ranging from friendly and approachable (seriously security guys, thanks for being well above average, it makes things a lot nicer) to standard gruff, impatient, I'm-doing-you-a-favor shitty Seattle service (bartenders) that is now common wherever twenty-somethings congregate. Overall we're at slightly better than average here. * Bar: B Policy of *holding* both an ID and a card is weird, and sort of meh. Check one at tab open and hand it back? Drinks were normal priced, normal strength. * Acoustics: B+ Better than average. But you know what just... fucking... kills it? * Overall show experience: D- You're spending some good money to see a band you like and damn, is it packed. And there's totally inadequate cooling, it's sweltering, people are dripping, and it's just gross. And unless you're very tall or willing to bathe in a dense sea of filth, you're not gonna see a lot. The sightlines are poor, and it's both too packed in general as well as from a thermal and humidity load standpoint. Finally, if you want a reprieve and desire to take a breather to the bar restaurant area, they have a different act playing there, instead of piping in the audio from the venue so you don't have to miss a beat. It's jarring and makes it impossible to take a breather. Finally, there's no goddamn coat check so be prepared to carry all your shit into the oversold crowd. And there is a long time between sets and the published start time and the act you want to see, so take note there. Fundamentally, the crocodile isn't offensive in the same way other Seattle venues like El Corazon are, but to be honest, some of these gruffer, worse places do a better job at... being an actual venue. If the show is at the Crocodile, next time I'm not going to bother. It's just not worth it when the actual seeing-the-show part is uncomfortable to the point of being unbearable. Crocodile: invest in some better AC, a graded floor, and some live PA for the restaurant area, and you might be on to something. As-is, it's a bit shit really... read more

This place has a bit of history going back into the humble beginnings of Seattle's blooming Grunge scene. It is currently owned by the Alice In Chains drummer Sean Kinney, and manager, Susan Silver. The main concert venue is up front where greats like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and REM played. Around the side of the building is the more intimate "side stage" (as I call it) where there is karaoke every Tuesday at 9p and if you do go, you will not be disappointed. They have great drink prices and their brick oven pizza at 11 dollars for a large is delectable!! I love going for a fun time!!! read more

I spent five nights in Seattle this past October. My boyfriend and I are music junkies galore and decided to see LIARS our first night in town. Boy, were we lucky! One of my favorite shows I saw in 2017. The lighting was dark, the drinks were tasty, and the staff was helpful. The sound and crowd were 100%. Angus Andrew of LIARS....INCREDIBLE to say the least. I love the fact the main floor is all 21+ and the non-alcoholic section is off to the side instead of vice versa like other venues. Makes it possible to grab a drink then head back up close to see the show instead of craning your neck from the back. The ceiling is full of rafters which kind of makes this place feel like a log cabin of sorts. Anyways, great sound quality. The legendary! There's no bad seat in the house! The tech and staff are all very approachable and friendly. I've read previous reviews on the capacity being crammed at 150 which is false. I know many bands that have sold out the venue which is 475 at full capacity. There's even a balcony that overlooks both the stage and the audience. A great spot to catch a band on the rise. Yay! I'm a fan. The Crocodile in Belltown Rocks. We went to seen the Erotic City Prince Tribute as well as... Zion I, Los Rakas, Locksmith, Kev choice and J.Lately. What a Great Venue. A little small but you can't deny the sound. It's for all ages, they have a space for the under age customers on the side. They have a pizza joint as well so after the before, during or after the concert you can get a quick meal in. We will definitely be back for another Concert. Nomadic Mavericks Yay! Okay, here's how you win at Going to a Concert at The Crocodile: don't worry about waiting in line outside. Ignore that. Go inside to the bar (you don't have to be 21 to sit in most of the place) and get yourself a *delicious* pizza cooked out of their giant, open flame oven. If you get there before 7 you can get a 3 topping pizza for $5.75!!!! It's big enough that I regretted not sharing it with my husband. The atmosphere in there is casual and makes you feel like you're in a rock venue. Hang out in the bar until will call opens and then pop out there to grab your ticket. Don't be fooled by that huge line waiting outside! It's for the concert itself, not will call. Just make sure you don't cut in front of people who actually *are* waiting for will call. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. Don't be shy, just ask. Then get your ID out and get your ticket(s)! After that, head back in to your comfy seat in the bar/restaurant to wait for the doors to open. Sometimes they'll catch you on your way back in and have you show them your ID and Ticket so they can pre-stamp you to get in easier. Sometimes they'll walk down the line and do it (I found that out when waiting in the bummer long line outside. They most likely had been doing it inside that day, too, I just hadn't come back in). Either way, make sure to keep checking back around the door for the guy who gives stamps prior to the show. Again, don't be shy. This will help ensure you get in as quickly as possible when the doors finally open! Hopefully you've asked when the doors will be opening by this point, but if not you still can. That'll help you be totally ready. Ideally, if you know when the doors open you can go and hover around the area where they let people in about 10 minutes beforehand. It's inside the front doors, down the hallway to the left (restaurant is to the right). They don't (as far as I know) tell people who've been waiting in line for hours that the doors are opening. It's a huge bummer. So the people who are already in the building can just zoop on in as soon as the guy signals or says something. Don't feel bad. It's life. Be the person who benefits from it, not the person who bitches about it for weeks afterwards. read more

Damn me for not updating my review. I saw my first show at the Croc in... hmm... probably 1999. I want to say it was, like Harvey Danger, but I cannot be sure. I've seen many, many shows here over the years. The Long Winters, more times than I can count, Mclusky (RIP, but check out Future of the Left- Hello Falco!), Archie Bronson Outfit, The Wrens (God, I love the Wrens). The Capes... Oh yeah, I've seen shows. I was really sad when the Croc closed for the first time. I cried. A lot. I remember the morning after they closed. I was driving to work and John Richards was as sad as I was. He was playing "Regret" by New Order. Heartbreaking really. They had become one of the few places in this town where a.) I knew I'd get a fair ticket price with out being gouged and b.) I knew that I could always weasel my way up to the front no matter the concert. I waited and hoped for over a year that they'd re-open. Thankfully they have. Yes, the new space is nothing like the old. The tiki bar is gone. The paper mache bee hives are no longer hanging from the ceiling... but you know what? That f*cking support beam is GONE. G-O-N-E. Do you hear me??? And there is a balcony. And when and if you make your way up the stairs to the upper level, you will see that they have old Croc posters hanging on the wall. Again, this made me teary. The sound here is better... and yeah, it's not the old Croc. But I'm okay with that. This is a good venue. Still one of the best in Seattle. There's still the bar. There's still the good booking... and they have pizza now. Besides... their bathrooms were atrocious anyway. And now? Amazing. White tiles. Beautiful. Almost worth 4 stars themselves. I saw Jens Lekman here a few months ago. The show was fantastic. The sound was good. The drinks were stiff. The crowd was happy... and again... NO BEAM. Come on... gotta give it up for that. read more
