I finally went to the Crabby Shack yesterday after wanting to try it for months, and I was NOT disappointed. I had the Crab Grilled Cheese and HIGHLY recommend it! Very generous amount of tender crab meat and it paired beautifully with the Gruyère and other cheese on excellent fresh bread. And their in house hot sauces were delicious (albeit a tad mild...I wish they had at least one fiery option for us heat seekers, but they did have some unique flavors and I particularly enjoyed the "Hot-Biscus" one that was sweet and also the spiciest option they had). I went in on a late Saturday afternoon and it was chill with a few other patrons enjoying their food and my order came up fairly quickly. I haven't personally gone to the actual location, but the place looks super cute per the images. I recently got to try their Crab and Clam Chowder. I am a chowder lover and so I was excited to try their version. This is the first time I have tried crab chowder made out of snow crab and it works. The chowder has nice deep flavours and I don't like celery, but this would be the only way for me to eat celery. Cook it down, so I can't detect any celery taste. My only thing is I am partial to chowder that are thicker consistency, their version wasn't watery, but it was in between and just wanted to point that out in case other people were expecting the same thing as me. I saw the Crabby Shack on Instagram a few days ago, and I immediately decided I was coming here ASAP. It's labeled as Seafood With Soul, and it truly lives up to it. The small restaurant is run by 2 Black women and a very hard-working staff. When we arrived there was ample seating, but on a busy day, I could see how tight it would be. I ordered the crab grilled cheese with a side of collard greens, and I loved how packed it was crab and how the cheese was perfectly melted and pulled apart. The seasoning and flavors were spot on, it was a generous size, and the spicy butter elevated it to another level. The collard greens were delicious as well. My girlfriend ordered the soul bowl, which came with chicken, collard greens, white rice, and mac and cheese. She enjoyed it as well, as the bowl was packed to the brim and everything blended well together. For drinks, we ordered the fresh squeezed lemonade with a shot of tequila in each. We enjoyed them so much that we ordered another 2 drinks to take on the go. I hope this business stays around for a long time because it's such a unique experience to dine here. read more

A Black Women owned seafood restaurant?! Yess please! I've been coming here for a few years now whenever I'm craving good seafood. I've tried just about everything on the menu and it's all good. My current obsessions are fried salmon bites and the crab and corn chowder soup. One of the owners put me on to the soup and I'm soo glad she did. In addition to food, they also have a small bar for cocktails and a few machines for frozen drinks. They also sell their own hot sauces, a Lemon Pepper and a Hottie Sauce. Wow, this restaurant was truly delightful. The conversation with the woman who served us at the register, to the music, to the food options, to the seasoning, to the casual vibe and the DRINKS. It was truly an experience that I would like to have again. I ordered the chicken mac & cheese bowl with collard greens and the lobster chowder (soooo good). It had seasoned rice at the bottom that I ate the next day and it was so delicious. I opted for my sauce to be on the side, which added a nice touch. My boyfriend and I got the black current lemonade with tequila and had to go for another serving because it was so good. Damn you, Goldbelly! (For those that haven't heard about Goldbelly, it's a delivery service that helps small, medium and even large food businesses deliver/ship their items nation-wide. Prices are going to be a little bit higher due to the speed and efficiency of shipping, but often these treats are absolutely worth it.) I keep seeing all of these special deals via email and occasionally jump on them - to take advantage of grabbing delicacies that are not easily found in my neck of the woods. The Crabby Shack got my attention with their "Clobster Rolls". Basically it's half lobster and half crab...but I didn't follow the rules when preparing mine. Oopsie. I simply had one of each-which didn't suck. These are super easy to prepare. Simply heat up the bag in boiling water or cut it open and sauté the ingredients for a few minutes. What I didn't realize when I ordered: that they are pre-seasoned. Not overly spiced or anything like that, but my experience with other lobster delivery was simply receiving lobster-nothing more. That was my fault for not really reading the fine print...but everything was truly delicious. The potato buns are fantastic. Toast them...or not. I was hesitant to order because of some of the reviews but I'm happy that I did. The shrimp is pretty fresh and the spicy garlic sauce helped to balance it out. It was a tad bit salty for me but I ate all. Tip** peel some of the shrimp and let it soak in the sauce for a bit. Delicious! The clobster roll was ok. A tiny bit dry for me but I would try it again. I really wanted to like this place but so many things wrong. I ordered the crab/lobster roll combo and the crab Mac and cheese. Let's start with the roll. The crab and lobster was EXTREMELY SALTY. To the point where it was not edible. The crab and lobster were both very mediocre quality. The crab was all the end of the leg meat crab that's attached to the body that no one really wants to eat, not the inside of the crab legs where it's that sweet succulent meat. I was greeted and the cashier was very helpful in recommending some menu items after I told her it was my first time. The inside decor art in the walls is fitting. There's a painting of 4 crabs on one wall for instance. The food was excellent! I had the mac and cheese, shrimp taco, crab taco, cornbread and lobster roll. To be every one of this menu items were great! Try then all. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and plentiful for the price. The shrimp and crab tacos was very well out together and delicious. 3.5 Stars It was a quick catch up and birthday celebration for my friend. He has been raving about this place because it isn't too far from his home and the Lobster rolls. So Presidents day afternoon we venture over and I try it out. I left wanting more. My Clobster roll (crab and Lobster) was just ok. Don't think i got my money's worth. Also on Mondays it's 6 dollar Margaritas all day. I was charged 10 initially but luckily my friend caught it and we used the over charged difference to get 4 dollar beers during the 3-7pm happy hour. I found this gem wandering around Prospect Heights and boy was I glad. The aromatic smell of the seafood and cute decor was definitely quite inviting. The service was fast. The crabby Shack has a good variety of seafood items from sandwiches to tacos and frozen alcohol slushies. We ordered three shrimp tacos and a lobster roll. As well as the mango lemonade. Overall, it was alright. The shrimp on the shrimp tacos wasn't flavored in any way and the spicy mayo came on the side rather than on the tortilla like a traditional shrimp taco. The lobster roll was fairly tasty but if we hadn't ordered the garlic butter to dip it in, would have lacked flavor as well. The took standard ingredients and made a well rounded meal with superior flavor and texture. Amazing. Also up for recognition is the crab BLT. Two words: Clobster. Roll. When I tell you that thang was thangin... my word. I've had tons of lobster rolls and crab rolls, but never a combo of the two (crab on one end, lobster on the other)! Now, I've been to (and I've also ordered delivery from) the Crabby Shack at least 5 times over the past couple of years to satisfy my occasional lobster roll or seafood boil hankering. And I hate to say it, but the food (the lobster roll in particular) was always decent, but not mind blowing or memorable. This time, however, there was a little extra TLC added. We ordered the clobster roll and tater tots. The bread of the roll was nice and toasty, the crab and lobster were fresh and plentiful, and there was the perfect combo of garlic butter, lemon, and old bay. The tater tots were simple, but delicious--fried to perfection. Staff was friendly. Food was fast, but not too fast (idk about you, but I never trust food that comes out insanely fast). I think I have to try something else here because I ordered the Clobster and it was ok. It is basically half lobster meat/half crabmeat on a roll. I thought it would be mixed together but they perfectly filled each half of the bun respectfully. The crabmeat end I enjoyed more than the lobster end. The lobster I found to be inconsistently dry and chewy. Some pieces were really chewy and a few were easier to get thru. There is some type of sauce on it...garlic butter sauce? Not sure but I didn't get the impression that there was anything on the roll to moisturize it. I was actually in the area for something else when I noticed the shop. I noticed the shop because I follow them on instagram. Now the vibe I got from the insta posts was nothing like what I got at the store. The lady behind the counter was very oh-drum-take-it-or-leave-I-rather-be-there-not-here-maybe-I-work-here-maybe-I-don't-what-do-you-want? vibe. We walked in and ordered: 3 bags of crab and shrimp 1. 1 (1lb) crab in a spicy butter 2. 2 (1/2lb) crab and (1/4lb) shrimp ( mixed butter and garlic butter), 3. 1 lobster tomato basil soup. The lobster tomato basil soup was the best besides the free oyster crackers. The soup was a bit creamy with a chunk of lobster meat placed in the center. If your anything like me, I like my soup hot not warm, and this soup was warm. I wanted to eat it at the counter but I decided to pack it up and reheat it when I arrived home. The flavor was pretty good. I rate it 3.5/5 Now for my main purpose of coming to this restaurant, the crabs! I ordered snow crabs. SIZE: They are not queen size snow crabs more like a duchess. The shrimp were a good size. you basically get 1 full corn on the cob halved in two and 1 potato cut in four. QUALITY: They weren't the best looking. Some looked like they were in a war. I can only speak of the batches we received. The shrimp looked fine and were firm. TASTE: If you prefer to start with dessert, then eat your entree first. This would be a great start. The seasoning was very buttery and sweet with a hint of salt. The sauce taste like sugar and cinnamon mixed together and there was no hint of a spicy flavor. My taste buds were unsatisfied and I chose not to finish my food. The shrimp weren't seasoned and basically tossed in the bag. There was nothing special about the corn and potatoes. Came to Crabby Shack on a Sunday afternoon to get lunch before heading to another appointment. My friend and I both got the clobster roll which is half crab half lobster in a roll. I thought it was going to be mixed together but it was side by side on the roll. I think my roll has more crab than lobster though. I liked it but the roll needed a sauce or more butter it was a tad dry. Something to spice it up. The frozen Margarita I had was pretty good. Anyway, I decided to go for the spicy butter, since mask-wearing creates a stuffy nose situation for me. I plopped some of the butter into the chowder, stirred it up and popped it in a microwave for a few seconds. The first spoonful determined the friendship I am going to develop with the folks at The Crabby Shack! The layers of flavor were like Christmas and you got everything you wished for under the tree! The spicy butter assisted and definitely helped the stuffiness I was experiencing. Even with the stuffies, I could taste everything in that devilish chowder. I have new friends, they just don't know it yet. Moving along, the crab grilled cheese sandwich was equally savory and surprisingly ample.
