Yawdie is a must visit especially if you have a kid(s). The food is good and appeals to the kiddos. And the owner, Damian, is just a great human who is welcoming to all. I personally love the coconut shrimp and fried plantains here. My daughter loves the coconut shrimp too and the fries. If you know Flatbush Central then you know its spacious with lots of seating. However when it's busy, it's hard to find seating. I went early on the weekend and was able to find a table right in front of the stall. The sandwiches are a decent size but I highly recommend getting a whole "flight" to try different proteins; the musts are jerk chicken and coconut shrimp. But there's also a vegetarian option and a jerk cheeseburger. The regular fries are great here but the sweet potato fries are even better! Something unique that is here is the jerk lemonade. This spot focuses on gourmet Jamaican sliders, and every single one delivered on flavor. The jerk chicken, fried chicken, coconut shrimp, and jerk cheeseburger (my personal favorite) each had their own personality, with bold seasoning and great textures. The plantain fries were a true highlight for me, they were crispy, never dry, and easily something I'd travel from Queens just to get again. The jerk lemonade was another hit, bringing a spicy, peppery kick that tied everything together. I was also able to try an off-menu Rum & Craisins sorbet topped with sweet and salty peanuts, which added a refreshing, unexpected finish to the meal. I had the unexpected pleasure of trying Yawdie at a pop-up shop this weekend at the Other half brewery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I had both the Jerk Chicken and Jerk Cheeseburger sliders! The flavors were absolutely delicious and authentic! The jerk seasoning is bold and addictive! I have to admit that the burger was my favorite. The jerk lemonade was also surprisingly incredible. Walked into the marketplace with my heart set on eating at the next store stop Bunnan, but Yawdie Q caught my foodie eye. They had no reviews so I've decided to be the first one! [Fried Jerk Chicken Slider] Personally this particular slider didn't really taste like anything new to me and I wish it had more JERK flavor but it was still a decent slider nonetheless. [Coconut Shrimp Slider] I love shrimp! So this slider I really enjoyed, I wish they gave more shrimp and less slaw but the flavor of the shrimp was really good! I'd order it again. [Cheeseburger Slider] I can see someone enjoying this slider, but personally it was not my cup of tea. The bread was really soggy from the slaw and again so much slaw! It was taking away from the flavor of the burger, but the slider itself is a good concept, unfortunately I just did not like it. [Fried Jerk Chicken w/ fries] Bought this for someone, and was able to try the chicken, it was mutually agreed that the chicken was lacking in Jerk flavor and was stringy and dry, it left us trying to figure out if it was pork or chicken (it was chicken) but I am foodie to the core and I crave intense flavors this item just wasn't doing it for me. To conclude, my favorite item was definitely the coconut shrimp sliders. Yawdie Q has great potential, especially since they've gotten such good feedback and haven't been open for that long. I came across Damian at Yawdie. He offered me some food. Let me just say, I am about to be in my foodie place. I had a jerk chicken slider, plantain sticks, and jerk lemonade. I bit into the jerk slider and my tastebuds did a happy dance. It was well seasoned. Exactky what I expect from anyone making West Indian based food. The plantain stick (which is not even on the menu but ABSOLUTELY needs to be) was different but delicious. The plantain is delish. It goes well with the mayo aioli sauce that they pair it with. If I could, I would order their shrimp sliders EVERYDAY. I stopped by a few weeks ago and they were closing, but the guy at the register was so warm and friendly and he gave me a free Jerk Lemonade. That was brilliant marketing on his part because the drink and the menu were on my mind weeks later. So I finally stopped in and ordered the jerk slider (pretty good), a shrimp slider, a jerk lemonade, and the owner blessed me with some plantain sticks (good). The shrimp sliders stole the show. They were coconut shrimp sliders and you could taste the true essence of the coconut - so authentic. The shrimp were also perfectly sized jumbo shrimp that wasn't that imitation nonsense. And the slaw and sauce that sat atop the shrimp was the perfect addition. After I ordered there, I looked to see if they were on DoorDash - and lo and behold they are.
