Tried Bonbon Lakay for the first time a week and a half ago. It's a super cute spot and the counter person was super super kind and sweet. Unfortunately the food fell short. This is not an attempt to bash a small business but to help improve. The pumpkin soup had no flavor and was missing some sort of salt. I bought a small and there was a huge piece of cabbage with the core attached so after I took it out there was hardly any soup . The cabbage with the inedible core took up almost half the space. 9 dollars. The mini rum cake has no rum flavor and was dry. 4 dollars The Haitian beef patty didn't taste Haitian. The meat tasted more like the meat put into empanadas. But instead in. A phyllo crust. It was missing spice. Finally the griot taco was outstanding. The flavors really came together. I wish it was larger for the 6 dollar price point. Overall it's a cute spot. A little expensive for what you get but Im sure the location drives the prices.

I finally decided to try this place after walking by it dozens of times and I wish I did sooner. The veggie bouillon is delicious and I've been craving it almost every day since I've had it. The veggies were expertly cooked and tender and the legume patty was large and delicious and a steal at $3 during lunch. I've since returned for the pumpkin soup and spinach patty which I didn't enjoy quite as much but were still good. Great place to stop for lunch or a patty to snack on. Clearly labeled vegan options which I always appreciate

One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood! I recently rented out the space for my birthday, and it was perfect for a low-key party. Everyone liked the food (chicken patties and legume patties), but they especially raved about the passion fruit limeade! Rain kept us indoors, but there's a cute patio in back where you can eat/host your event. Plus, Eddie and Mel were so kind and good to work with to plan the party. When they're open I definitely recommend stopping in for a quick lunch or snack -- all the patties I've tried are delicious, as is the guava grilled cheese. The gede (double chocolate) cookie is a great treat, especially when paired with the Haitian hot chocolate. I'm not sure what spices are in there but they're so good!

I was walking by and noticed the beautiful signs, tropical colors, and decided to go inside. To my surprise it's a Haitian bakery, so cool to see one on this side of Brooklyn! I had the cremas ice cream and it was sooooo good. I got a free tasting of cremas and added it to the ice cream. They also have a sweet plantain based ice cream which tasted really good too. They also serve some food, light bites, I saw patties, fritay, soup, among other things on the menu. I'm excited to come back and try more things out. The service was super friendly and the music/ambiance was good too.

Grabbed lunch at Bonbon Lakay on Friday afternoon. A great spot for a coffee and an affordable and tasty meal. Quality: Bonbon Lakay fills the void of Haitian food in the area. They serve very strong coffee, an assortment of specialty baked goods, and a few more substantial dishes. I was very happy with my coffee, and the Griot & Plantains was fantastic, though I would have liked a bit more heat from the pikliz. I also ordered a few Baked Pates. The portion of pastry to filling was a bit off, but the fillings were great. I think the sweet Guava & Cheese was best I tried, but the Beef and Oxtail were good as well. Quantity: The food is all large portions. Value: $5 for an Iced Coffee. $8 for Griot & Plantains. $3-$8 for the Baked Pates. Ambiance: Bonbon Lakay is a small cafe located in Park Slope. It has a very colorful design out front that is impossible to miss. Once inside they have an ordering counter near the entrance, and then a few tables and chairs further back. They also have a backyard area, but it was rainy so I did not venture to check it out. R&B music played over the speakers and warm baking smells filled the space. Crowd: I was the only customer on Friday afternoon. Service: So unbelievably friendly. Truly want every guest to have a lovely experience. Parking: Limited parking out front.

Great Haitian restaurant (that also doubles as an ice cream shop and a coffee shop/store). Lovely backyard. Tried the pork sliders before, and came back for the fried chicken lunch. Perfect in every way! Staff is excellent!

Thank you Ruva for an amazing experience. The food is off the hook. Fresh, seasoned well and you will eat every last bite. Everyone is warm and welcoming. We will be back soon

My parents were telling me I had to try this place as we are Haitian and they check out places in BK for me to try before they visit. Me and my wife got there around 1130am on Sunday. They had one person working the register. There was a line and the woman at the top of the line was taking an extraordinary long time with her order. I think she bought food AND a Haitian flag. Anyway, I noticed there was not a lot of selection left and my wife and I had to pray the the last of the codfish pate wasn't taken before we got to the register. It was only 11:30am!!! We were lucky and my wife got one codfish and I got one herring and a chicken pate. They also had an early bird special so we got our food at a discount. Maybe that accounted for the lack of inventory. We were excited and even took a picture outside to share with my parents as prof we visited. Well we tried the pate and let's say way more dough than meat. The ratio was so off I figured I was just eating flaky pastry with maybe a prize inside. Like my cousin joked... how many bites does it take to get to the center of a pate. Those who know the tootsie pop theme song know what I'm talking about. I was full because of all the bread I ate. So it was not the best experience but the place is clean the service is nice, but the food that we ate was just mid or adequate. Probably not going back as I can get better pate in BedStuy at Grand Champs without having to travel all the way to Park Slope.

Almost a little of everything on the menu!

Firstly it was lunchtime and there were a number of tables filled. Looks like it was a lot of nearby lunch goers, good choice! You can tell they season the flour and the fish. The gravy was awesome and the black rice and beans was nice n hearty. I brought my leftovers home to my son who devoured it. We also had drinks and those were well made and good as well. This my new Haitian spot. Well not at this one! Should've listened to the recommendations we received from others, but after looking at the high reviews, plus it was close to subway station we decided to try. What a costly $164 Dollar mistake! Literally soon as we landed back home we went to our normal favorite spot to get real Haitian food. Im still dumbfounded on how you mess up RICE! My young daughter said she makes better rice! The Chicken on her dish had a bad sour aftertaste. Vistors beware of this spot and the reviews!

That griot sandwich was everything I needed and more. Full of flavor, cooked perfectly, and very affordable which made it even better. The plantains were hot, fresh, and just right. The space is beautiful and very well decorated, and the servers were kind and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the djon djon rice bowl with oxtail, the fritay platter, and soup joumou, and we also tried the Sunday special with white rice and sos pwa. My dish came out after everyone else's, so I ended up taking it to go, which was disappointing. The fritay platter was a highlight. The plantains were crispy and the akra and marinade were well seasoned. My mom enjoyed her soup, but felt the sos pwa was a bit watery and could have been thicker. When I got home, the rice had a great texture but the aroma smelled slightly burnt, maybe they were going for a smoky flavor. The oxtail was well flavored, but I did find a small piece of plastic in my rice, which was concerning. Overall it was okay, but it did not blow me away. I have had better Haitian food at cookouts or family gatherings, though if this is your first time trying Haitian food, you may enjoy it.

The plate came with a rice of choice, two fried plantain, beans, pikliz and dipping sauce for the meat. Not bad for $20.
