I walked in. There were two pastries left: the pineapple tarts and the cheese rolls. I ask how much they cost. She tells me $2.50. So I order two for $5. She bags everything up. I go to tap for the order. But I notice it says $6. I stop her and correct her, but she says it's an extra dollar for the card. "I don't make the rules, I just work here." Okay, but then I point to the sign. It says "pinetarts" and cheese rolls are $2, not $2.50. She tells me this pineapple tart, this literal pinetart, and which looks exactly like every other pinetart, is "not a pinetart." She doesn't explain what it is. My $4 order had become $6 for no reason. And she got zero because I told her (respectfully) no thanks and left. Between the "I don't make the rules" and "it's not a pinetart" and "it's $2.50" and the "extra dollar charge for the card" -- was everything this person said a lie? CARRY OUT ONLY GUYANESE RESTAURANT IN PLG They have all the traditional Guyanese menu items without the unnecessary wait of the other better known Guyanese restaurants plus you can enjoy your meal in the comforts of your home where finger licking isn't frowned upon. I am most familiar with their pastries which are staples in Guyanese cuisine. If you are interested in trying their pastries, I would recommend their Pine Tarts, Cheese Rolls and Cheese Straw (aka cheese churro-like thing as someone else called it in another review) because they are solid and are well priced. It's okay to eat more than one of each, it's a judgement-free zone wherever pastries are present. I have tried their cooked food but wasn't as wowed by it because it didn't have the poignant and aromatic flavors that I have grown up around and associate with authentic Guyanese cuisine. They do have a lot of the signature dishes on rotation such as Cook-Up Rice made with black eye peas and Vegetable Chow Mein. On 3/8 I brought bakes, which are very oily. The oil has completely saturated the tissues and brown bag by the time you arrive at your destination. Furthermore, they are charging you a $1 fee for using your Debit Card without your knowledge. This is a violation of the law. Customers are not informed that they will be charged this fee. Under NYC law, fees for using credit or debit cards must be included in the price and posted on the price list. It is the customer's responsibility to complete the purchase. To make matters worse, on 3/9/23, I called their contact number 718.450.8393 and was placed on hold for over an hour, without exaggeration, all while hearing other customers placing orders, employees conversing and laughing, and the radio blasting loudly, and yelling each other's names, for example, Marcia. Ordered a few things to go. The goat curry was delicious, as it wasn't gamey and there was enough spiciness to keep it interesting. The rice and beans accompanying tasted good also, and there were a few super sweet plantains added also. The cheese rolls were okay, but in retrospect they weren't entirely fresh when I ate them. We stumbled upon this place on a Sunday just before they closed at 8pm. We were looking for a snack and they had a large selection of baked goods to choose from! // Service The shopkeepers patiently and happily explained all the baked goods to us. I think they appreciated how excited we were to see so many treats. They even told us which ones are better warm (a couple of the cheese ones) and warmed them up for us. // Food Several had cheese or coconut. We ended up getting an assortment of 5 things. My favorite was a large cheese bread roll - only $2.50. My friend's favorite was the cheese churro-looking one which is crunchy and tastes just like cheez-its. The pineapple patty was also very good. In total everything came out to $8. Good deal! They also serve actual meals like curry and roti. I look forward to going back and trying their dishes and more baked goods! read more

I took my Guyanese girlfriend here one time because we saw the giant Guyana flag and smelled that sweet barbeque chicken smoke even though it was late night. I made her come here, but we have come multiple times since. The first time we were here, I saw the GT Fish and Chips on the menu, and I am quite partial to Fish and Chips. We have been on a mission ever since! Tonight, we finally made it to getting our Fish and Chips on everyone's favorite pseudo-holiday May the Forth (neither of us is actually really a Star Wars fan but a discussion for another day). Of course, we once again came late night despite talking about it since 6:45 PM (okay, actually since the night before). As a result, we weren't able to get the GT Fish and Chips because the plantains had all been consumed by our fellow Guyanese neighbors (my girlfriend thinks I may be making false accusations here, but I am pretty certain). Anyways, we got the regular Fish and Chips and having eaten Fish and Chips in multiple places in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, and Auckland, This is one of the BEST Fish and Chips I have ever had!!!!! They use a unique spice blend (probably the green sauce according to my girlfriend). It is extremely savory with just a hint of spice. The fish also came out fresh and was perfectly moist. It almost falls apart as you pick it up. Paired with the tartar sauce or on its own, the fish is perfect! I am really hoping we are able to go back soon to get the plantains in the GT Fish and Chips (yes, I am going to drag my girlfriend back here, early this time, maybe tomorrow, probably tomorrow). One order was quite sizable! We were both able to eat it and be full for only $5! The GT Fish and Chips is $7, but it will definitely be worth it and is far cheaper than the Irish Pubs in the city where they will range from $13-$17. While you are here, you should also definitely try some of the pastries, there are so many different kinds (my girlfriend is insisting, I mean suggesting, I let the public know that I am still learning the names)! The Pine Tart is a must and the cheese roll is also excellent. Also the Mauby here is really good and a bit sweeter than it is at Sybil's in Queens (yes, I know Sybil's, no, I am not Guyanese, but I am GT Massiv according to a man I met at the West Indian Day Parade). Ummm...this place is good - they can cook! I stopped because I was lured by the smoker out front where the dude was making some jerk chicken and went inside to pay for a $5 portion. I was impressed that he literally would not let me take the chicken until the exact minute it was properly cooked. I was chilling there probably 15 minutes but it was fun as they're very nice, welcoming people. I confirmed it's a Guyanese place - which I could tell because of the baked goods on offer (cheese sticks, cheese bun) and also the Guyanese flags out front lol. Inside smelled like amazing curry and the guy gave me a complimentary pineapple pastry which was really freaking good - not artificial at all, very fresh with light un-greasy pastry. The filling was even extra good with some spice to it and not gummy at all. And the chicken? It was amazing! Spicy, perfectly cooked, juicy. I discovered this place while driving. I am Guyanese so I'm always in search of a good Guyanese restaurant. When I entered the place it is small but has a homey feeling. I ordered various pastries, as well as custard and drinks. They have various classic Guyanese drinks such as sorrel, Mauby, ginger beer and various Guyanese sodas. Everything was exceptional it is not a place where you will spend a lot of money and all the food is quality made. This is the one of the best Guyanese shops I've ever been to. They make all of their foods fresh off the stove. They always have their pastries ready for the customers. Although the seating area isn't very large the atmosphere is still quiet welcoming. All of their food reminds me of the food that my mother used to make as I was in my hometown, Guyana. read more
