Mussel dish

I loved my experience here. The owner was friendly and engaging with patrons. A small quaint restaurant with an outdoor seating option. I enjoyed the evening vibe. The seating arrangements are a bit tight. My company and I ordered the grilled branzino, black rice, mussels, plantains, and the Mac and cheese. I ordered two of their cocktails which were amazing. I have no complaints about the food. I really enjoyed eating here. I will give it a 10/10.

This is a nice place. It's my second time coming here. It's quiet and not too crowded during lunchtime, but it can get busy at night on the weekends. The drink was good, and the food was good too. I ordered wings and pâté kode, which filled me up since it comes with three. The pâté kode was pretty good. Since this place is close to my house, I'll probably come back to try more of the food. Great place for a date or to hang out with friends.

Griot Sliders

At Djon Djon you will find fine dining, Haitian decor and a Haitian vibe. I left here wanting to hit a kompa party right away but I have to be honest and say that I was still craving Haitian food. Please note all of the food was well prepared! I started with an appetizer and had the griot sliders. The presentation on the sliders could use a bit of work and perhaps a little more griot? The pikliz that topped off the sliders were definitely authentic and Haitian with just the right amount of spicy. 10/10 Bottle this and I will buy a jar for sure. The griot wasn't remarkable, but good texture. I also tried some of the fried shrimp my friend was having and was pleasantly surprised as I'm often not impressed with shrimp. As a main I had the grilled branzino, which tasted fresh and was plated with veggies on the side. I was expecting to get a hint of Haitian seasoning on the fish and was a bit disappointed. The side of macaroni au gratin I ordered was baked hot ready to order. Again while tasty I felt they played it incredibly safe with the seasoning. Now for the black rice, my friends, get back in the kitchen with this one. Unfortunately not pictured, it was not a hit. Even my Jamaican friend said this is not diri djondjon. What happened here? The tasty krémas will make me forgive you for the rice and I'll be back for more. Please update the rice. Coming to DjonDjon you will definitely have a quality, tasty, well presented meal however for my Haitians it will not taste like your family made this meal. I look forward to returning and supporting this business but I'm hoping to taste food that feels a little more like home.

Mimosa and Kremas cocktail

Popped in on a whim craving Haitian food with my wife on a Sunday afternoon. The place was very neat and well maintained, and we opted to sit inside and enjoy the atmosphere. Our waitress/bartender/hostess showed us to our table and gave us time to peruse the menu. We started with a mango mimosa and a cocktail, and agreed they both potent, balanced and pleasant. We ordered the Djon Djon Box with goat and the salmon entree. Both were delicious, especially with the pikliz and accompanying sauce. Haitian cuisine features proteins cooked to a firm, well done temperature. But the goat was still tender and pulled off the bone easily. We were slightly disappointed that the black rice or Djon Djon didn't seem to be made with real mushrooms, and looked closer to gray than black. We understand that the mushroom can be a difficult ingredient to source here, but when you make it your namesake - it better be good! This one lacked flavor until we added the sauce and pikliz. So I subtracted points for that, since we both agreed was the weakest part of the meal. Overall, the vibe, food, drinks and service were all worth returning for-and we will!

This restaurant exceeded my expectations. The food was the best Hatian I've ever had. The cod pate was outstanding. Even my vegetarian friend ended up eating one. The black rice was devine and rich with flavor. The chicken pea dish was huge and delicious. The fried pork and plantains 10 star. The sourspp cocktails I could drink a 10. The staff was wonderful. The restaurant cute and trendy. The music was wonderful and class and cultured. Highly recommend.

Riz Djon Djon et Legumes D'aubergine

Named after the famous black rice of Haiti, Djon Djon is one of the more upscale eateries along Nostrand's Little Haiti corridor. I only sampled the vegetarian items, but I was told by the meat eaters in the group that the blood sausage was phenomenal. The eponymous dish was good with a nice earthy taste from the mushrooms, but I think I prefer a rendition with peas included. The eggplant legume was well-seasoned and paired well with the riz djon-djon. I normally love akra, but the version here was very, very dry. I would definitely skip on a next visit.

The food was good. A little pricey which i find most Haitian spots to be. But, this one was just okay. I went with my bestie because we're on a mission to find the best Haitian food in Brooklyn. So we tried this restaurant since it was a sit down vibe with drinks and stuff. We were seated immediately which was nice. It was dark in the restaurant which made it cute for a date night or something. The food came out rather quickly. The drinks were nice and strong. The food was plentiful also. I ordered the fried goat and. Plantains (fritay plate) my bestie ordered the legumes with griot Mac and cheese and a side order of black rice to share. The black rice was just okay. It was good, but I've had better. The lemonade had vanilla in it, which through me off a bit cuz i wasn't expecting it. It wasn't my favorite. The citadel punch was nice tho. I also had enough food to take home and create another meal. So the portion sizes were great too. All in all this spot gets a 3.5. See pics below

The flavors are exceptional. One of my favorite Haitian restaurants. They have a variety of menu options. My favorite is the Lakey spaghetti. I've had it 3 times and it never disappoints me! The wings also have a delightful unexpected flavor. Don't skip the salad. The dressing is light and compliments any entree item ordered. I wish I had room for desert my only complaint! Guess I will have to return again and save room if possible.

I came here for a family gathering. They accommodated all 30 of us. I know it was probably a little hectic, however everyone was very attentive. My server Moe was amazing. The food was served family style since it was a large group. Everyone was really good, but my favorite dish was diri blan sos pwa, and the goat. The goat was so tender, the sos pwa had so much flavor. My experience was 10/10 & I do recommend!

Small ass cheesecake for $12

So I've never been to a Haitian restaurant and this is new for me. I got the LOBEY FRITAY with fried goat and it was EXCELLENT. However, that small ass cheesecake was $12 bucks and was a hard. HOWEVER, it was not enough to bring it down to 4 stars because the Lobay Fritay in my opinion, was simply the best. I would easily come back.

The Service is ok, the waiter was friendly but needs a bit more training. The food was good. We ordered the kafou wings in 2 flavors kreyol and honey jerk. The kreyol was good the jerk was lack luster. Not much flavor. We ordered a side of djon djon (hatian black rice) it was really good. I could've eaten 2 more bowls of just that. We ended off the meal with hatian cake. Let me tell you.... this was the star of the meal. That cake was so soft and moist just the right amount of sweetness. Mmm come get the rice and cake. I believe they have a jazz/live music night in the week, I think Thursday nights. Ill have to come back and check it out.

I love Djon Djon so much I'm damn near a regular. I had to come back and order the Djon Djon box. Also my gf is still hooked on the voodoo pasta, we both need to try more entrees honestly and will (I have my eye on the soup joumou for the fall). it's just so difficult when they make what you love perfectly, how do you move on from that? ?!!? But seriously , Djon Djon is the place to try multiple entrees bc 9/10 it will slap , which is a great thing. And shoutout to the servers, always kind ! That doesn't go unnoticed.

Green Plantains (Lobey Fritay)
Amanda W.

***Long review*** We came in a group of four and we all got to try some of the appetizers. The wings wow did not think it would be delicious like this, so happyy we got to try that, especially with the green sauce it came with. I got the fried pork with green plantain and beef sausage (lobey fritay) and I'm usually a green sauce dipper, so i tried keeping the sauce to dip my tostones, but the server gave me a new one :) yayyy. The beef sausage was so yummy its definitely a meaty sausage :):):) The appetizers fried malanga (akra) was tasty with a nostalgic smell, crispy outside but crumbly and soft inside. Coconut shrimp had a sweet and tangy dip. Black rice was a taddd bit dry andthe salmon wasnt super juicy, a bit let down but the stew goat(kabrit en sauce) was goated, yummy and the bean sauce was top tier smooth. Mushroom ravioli lol, my friend was gonna get the voodoo pasta but changed her mind last minute I ate most of mushrooms for her it was tasty and flavorful but definitely a lot of mushrooms so be aware if you arent a mushroom lover, order something else. Drinkss I would drink JUS COROSSOL right now again, I love soursop and coconut milk and so this combo actually was made for me :) Super tasty and worked so well not overly sweet i think. There's a live band that came around 7-8pm, super cool and friendly staffs. One bathroom tho. Mocktails can be made all into cocktail so its very genius menu. A bit pricy for everything but super delicious and filling meal and quite the vibe to hang out and drink yummy jus corossol :D

The drinks were also simple, very light and yummy - not too sweet. The vibes of the restaurant were also very cute and dimly lit (but not too dim). We also came on an extremely hot day and sadly their A/C system wasn't working so it was on the warmer side. Not unbearable but a bit uncomfortable, so just keep that in mind if that's the case when you show up. What I will say when it comes to the experience and food is that it doesn't get more authentic than this. I asked for a recommendation and was told to order the griot, which was well seasoned and quite large portion size wise. The plate came with a rice of choice, two fried plantain, beans, pikliz and dipping sauce for the meat. Not bad for $20. I ordered to go because I had an event to go to, but can attest that they do a great job of plating their dishes when you dine in. If I'm ever in NYC again I wouldn't mind returning, dining in and hopefully trying something different like their Kalalou or legume which looks incredible.

The jerk chicken wasn't too spicy, it was juicy and flavorful. They also gave three big pieces! The rice was also well cooked and not too salty. We also ordered Griot with Bannan peze- it's a requirement if you're going to eat at any Haitian establishment. The woman dishing out food out said "this meat is a little dry. Sorry." When I called to address the issue, the manager explained that because they pay Uber Eats fees, they don't provide full portions for delivery orders. That is not something any customer wants to hear, nor was any solution (like a coupon or replacement) offered. The food at Akra Deli tastes great, but the lack of consistency, poor customer service, and reduced portions for online orders make it hard to recommend. If you do choose to order, I strongly suggest going in person, otherwise you will likely not receive the amount of food you paid for. Overpriced and poor customer service!
