This place is delicious flavor. I came from Las Vegas and had to come here. This is a must whenever I come back to NY. "For sure a thumbs up" the people here were very friendly A MUST

Griot (Fried Pork) This is the amount that comes in the Large portion. Rice came separately in a bigger container.

Yes yes yes. Now I'm a little ashamed to admit how long it took me to finally try Haitian food being that I'm Dominican and we literally come from the same place but hey better late than never right? There are actually quite a few restaurants around me but unfortunately almost all of them lack reviews on Yelp and Google. When it comes to ordering food delivery, that's something that will deter me from ordering. Only because I didn't grow up in this part of Brooklyn so if I haven't seen the place in person, I tend to get worrisome. Trust me, I know that some of the best places to eat are the little hole in the wall spots and some of my favorite places to eat fit that description but I have to personally know the place and have been there to trust it. Anyway, I was really craving Caribbean cuisine and went with this location because it had great customer reviews on Doordash. I ordered the Griot with rice and beans in the large size. It came so quick and piping hot. I guess when you order the large they send the meat and rice separately? Don't quote me on that. The rice came in a huge aluminum container and was more than enough to feed 2-4 people. The meat however came in the regular round aluminum container. This is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I ordered the large in order to have leftovers. I had PLENTY of rice left, however because the griot also came with three tostones (fried plantains) and lots of onions all packed in a smaller container, it was not a full serving of meat. It was fricking delicious but they sent me all that rice and a side of potato salad (not sure if that was a mistake or complimentary) to eat with a small amount of meat in comparison. It should be the same size. Yelp won't let me upload the video so a screenshot will have to do. Let's get into the flavor though. That griot was *chefs kiss* and I knew it would be because of where we come from hello. Our cooking methods are literally the same and that pork wasp tender yet had a beautiful color to it from being fried after stewing. There were a few pieces that had fat on them that made my whole day. Pickled onions balanced the fattiness right out. The pikliz was so refreshing and just the right amount of spice to pair with the tostones. The free potato salad was also really good and I'm reaaaaalllly picky about that. The rice was a tad bit underwhelming in terms of flavor on its own but paired with the meat it was great. All in all, a solid Haitian restaurant and I cannot wait to try the rest of the menu.

so much rice comes with each large entrée

I had been looking for some good Haitian food for a while now so I decided to give this place a try. I ordered a large oxtail, a large stew chicken, a morue (salt fish) patty and a chicken patty. The total was $30. The food was just okay. The large entrees come with so much rice a 2 pieces of green plantain. The stew chicken was okay. The broth was the most exciting part about it. I excepted the stewed chicken to be juicy, but instead the chicken was hard and dry. The oxtail was good. There were substantial pieces of oxtail meat throughout the dish. The fish patty was also good. The chicken patty was a little dry. The service was super slow but the woman who served me was really friendly.

Rice and beans were good as well as the potato salad. The griot lacked flavor and the fatty pieces had a bad after taste.

Firstly it was lunchtime and there were a number of tables filled. Looks like it was a lot of nearby lunch goers, good choice! We got a number of recommendations from the waiter after he suggested we try classic dishes but also the fish. Voting that came out was extremely flavorful. Haitians make the best fried fish. You can tell they season the flour and the fish. The gravy was awesome and the black rice and beans was nice n hearty. I brought my leftovers home to my son who devoured it. We also had drinks and those were well made and good as well. This my new Haitian spot. The chef took a peek outside to see how the service was going and I made sure to give a good thumbs and wink to reassure him he was doing the damn thing!!

Beyond disappointing!Unbelievable that the white & Black rice both was so terrible which is the main staple of any Haitian cuisine. My family enjoyed nothing we ordered and could tell by all the food we left on our plates. I'm so mad because visiting NY which has a huge Haitian population, we were expecting the best ever!!! Well not at this one! Should've listened to the recommendations we received from others, but after looking at the high reviews, plus it was close to subway station we decided to try. What a costly $164 Dollar mistake! Literally soon as we landed back home we went to our normal favorite spot to get real Haitian food. Im still dumbfounded on how you mess up RICE! My young daughter said she makes better rice! The Chicken on her dish had a bad sour aftertaste. Vistors beware of this spot and the reviews!

I have never been to Haiti, but the way everything was put together from the drink style cups to the music made me feel completely immersed in the culture. It felt authentic, warm, and full of life. It honestly made me want to experience the real thing one day, and I truly pray things improve so I can visit in the future. In the meantime, I will absolutely be back. That griot sandwich was everything I needed and more. Full of flavor, cooked perfectly, and very affordable which made it even better. The plantains were hot, fresh, and just right. The space is beautiful and very well decorated, and the servers were kind and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the djon djon rice bowl with oxtail, the fritay platter, and soup joumou, and we also tried the Sunday special with white rice and sos pwa. My dish came out after everyone else's, so I ended up taking it to go, which was disappointing. The fritay platter was a highlight. The plantains were crispy and the akra and marinade were well seasoned. My mom enjoyed her soup, but felt the sos pwa was a bit watery and could have been thicker. When I got home, the rice had a great texture but the aroma smelled slightly burnt, maybe they were going for a smoky flavor. The oxtail was well flavored, but I did find a small piece of plastic in my rice, which was concerning. Overall it was okay, but it did not blow me away. I have had better Haitian food at cookouts or family gatherings, though if this is your first time trying Haitian food, you may enjoy it.

It was my first time trying Haitian food and I was surprised at how similar it was to Spanish food. Every plate we ordered was very flavorful and unique in taste. The sauces that came with our dishes were spicy (just how I like it) but so unique in spice too. I could have drank the sauces. There was nothing that we didn't like! The drinks were also simple, very light and yummy - not too sweet. The vibes of the restaurant were also very cute and dimly lit (but not too dim). They gave us the best seat in the house too - the corner window booth with views of the entire floor. It was a perfect date night! I ordered the vegan platter whose black beans were smooth and piping hot, alongside the crispy fried tostones and meaty vegan meatballs. In fact the meatballs were so meat-like that neither my sister nor my husband could belief that they were made of jackfruit. The white rice was also extremely fluffy and moist and judging by the diligent rice-washing that was taking place behind the counter as we ate, I could tell that the staff really works hard to make it not just an afterthought, but a quality addition to the meal. My sister also really enjoyed her shrimp plate while my husband devoured his half-chicken platter. What I will say when it comes to the experience and food is that it doesn't get more authentic than this. I asked for a recommendation and was told to order the griot, which was well seasoned and quite large portion size wise. The plate came with a rice of choice, two fried plantain, beans, pikliz and dipping sauce for the meat. Not bad for $20. I ordered to go because I had an event to go to, but can attest that they do a great job of plating their dishes when you dine in. If I'm ever in NYC again I wouldn't mind returning, dining in and hopefully trying something different like their Kalalou or legume which looks incredible.

The bar seats were comfy and I was on my phone. There was also loud reggae music playing from the other room, so I was jammin. I got home and dug into my food and it was almost perfect. The griot was delicious. Just crunchy enough on the outside and tender on the inside. The black rice was a little disappointing, but nothing major. I love black rice, but it lacked flavor. Luckily they give you a side of gravy, which was tasty. I should've taken the girl at the counter up on her offer to get an extra side of gravy. I still devoured everything though. It also came with fried plantain. I'm not a huge fan of unsweet plantain, but it was good when I added the picklez to it. Picklez is spicy, so tread lightly if you don't like heat. 5 stars for Anmwey. I will certainly return.
