Ordered lunch to-go and really enjoyed it. The service was very good and the staff were pleasant. I had pasta with BarbyFry shrimp which was really comforting... I fought sleeping at my desk for the rest of the day. The pasta was cooked al dente, and the sauce that accompanied it was just enough to cover it and not too soupy. The fiesta (bread sticks) were excellent. Rice and other sides were all good (not great). I especially liked the spicy jerk sauce and the oxtail gravy. The not so good: The chicken was under spiced and a bit dry. Jerk chicken should be full flavored and have a bbq flavor. Not sure how they prepare their chicken, but it didn't seem to be made on an open fire grill. It is their signature dish. I was expecting better. Not bad, but nothing to rave about. I was in the mood for a hot plate of comfort food and so I decided to go to this Peppa's location. I got the Jerk Chicken meal that was reasonably priced at $13. The chicken was cooked fresh, hot and flavorful. The rice and gravy was very good just wish they added more gravy. The meal was supposed to come with plantains but there wasn't any in my plate. When I asked the woman making the plates she said the plantains was there. Got home and surprise there weren't any on my plate. I would give 5 stars for the food but the order/pick-up process was a bit chaotic. I may honestly only go back to the location near Prospect Place or Flatbush again because I'm generally never out on Utica avenue and the customers weren't exactly warm and receptive of me even entering the establishment. The staff were fantastic though and the business is a different story - everything smells amazing. I took my what looked like half an entire jerk chicken to go and side of mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was gooey and thick and full of flavor and the jerk chicken moist and tangy (although I asked for a ton of sauce). Once confirmed we arrived at the restaurant and we were told to wait outside in line for another hour. The "security" at the door let people walk in and order their food and get it within minutes and told people that ordered online that he didn't care and that they would have to wait and if they wouldn't like it their chicken would be spit on or tainted. This is Peppa's 2nd location (they have 3 now) and The experience is slightly different but the food is exactly the same. This location is clearly much newer than the first location. The first location is more hole in the wall. This location is still best for takeout does have seating for about 10 people. You need to have the jerk chicken if you come to peppa's its the best in the world if I am being honest. Im Jamaican and I have had jerk chicken all over the country and Peppa's is the best imho. Drizzle a little jerk sauce (its pretty spicy and honestly its spicier at this location as compared to the other 2) and some bbq sauce and your instantly treated to this humble plate of heavenly chicken. If im being completely honest I have never managed to eat anything else at Peppa's besides their jerk chicken and their festival (which is also bomb). This location unlike the other keeps other food items in stock. You can come buy and most things are available (oxtails, curry, stew chicken, mac & cheese etc). If you know Caribbean places, have the full menu available is a rarity. This location doesnt have that meanish brooklyn vibe that I appreciate from the OG but many people will probably appreciate it the service is much better and its not as crowded. read more

Pros: the service is extremely quick, they always have a lot of people staffed to accommodate rushes. Pricing is pretty reasonable. Festivals are pretty awesome! Once I opened up the container and that smell hit me I knew I was getting some authentic jerk. I love a dry jerk with all the smoky flavor and just the right balance of seasoning and this is it. They give you some sauce on the side as well that tastes good, but honestly it doesn't need it. The mac and cheese is very thick and cheesy so it's decent, and would probably pair well with something with a gravy like oxtail to soften it up a bit.
