Rude management, even ruder baristas.
Tamara M.

As a longtime Yelp Elite, I rarely leave negative reviews--but I believe it's important to speak up when treatment feels disrespectful. I've visited this café several times, including once when I left an average review, but after today I won't be returning. I ordered a small oat-milk vanilla latte, expecting a quick, simple drink. Instead, the drink tasted like lukewarm milk, and when I politely asked for a refund, the experience became incredibly uncomfortable. The same barista from a previous negative interaction handled my order and greeted me with a smirk I should've recognized as a red flag. When I asked for the refund, she called over someone who identified himself as Martin, the assistant manager. He seemed unsure how to process a refund, told me the transaction was voided--even though it still appeared on my card--and then handed me a regular takeout receipt while insisting it counted as proof of cancellation. I didn't feel confident in either explanation. Throughout the exchange, both the barista and the manager spoke to each other in another language, smirked, and acted as if I was causing a disruption. At one point, the manager even said he "didn't want my seven dollars," which felt unnecessary and dismissive. Regardless of the price, any customer deserves a respectful interaction when a drink isn't right. The overall handling of the situation made me feel unwelcome, judged, and deeply uncomfortable. No customer should leave an establishment feeling that way.

WTF?

So disappointed. I basically donated $6 for a "chai" that was milk with cinnamon. You guys should be embarrassed of yourselves for your service. Actually ruined my day to stop by. The "barista" will smile in your face, so I trusted her, and then I go to leave and look down like wtf.

I came here for brunch and while the food was average, and the decor was nice, service was very slow. I never got a water refill and it took a really long time to get the check. I have a sense that my server was overbooked. Otherwise tho, the food was ok. I had a salad that was fresh but lacked flavor and a tasty seasonal late. I did however love the big hash brown! Best part of the meal! I probably wouldn't purposely come back here but wouldn't be mad to be invited by a friend here.

Stumbled upon this nice cozy spot, the staff was amazing our waiter had the best energy the place is just a vibe. We got a pitcher of mimosas, the food was great those hashbrowns squares were everything!! Perfect crunch a hashbrown like no other I could have eaten a dozen of them lol

Came here for Labor Day brunch and it was a solid spot! We were seated right away. Service was a bit slow. It took a minute to get drinks ordered and to pay our check at the end of our meal took a while. I had the hashbrown bowl and split a cheddar jalepeno biscuit, both of which were really hearty and filling! Everyone enjoyed their meals. They have a good range of brunch options and specials.

This spot is perfect for a comforting Sunday brunch, with a wide variety of delicious options on the menu. The burrito is the standout--hearty, flavorful, and worth coming back for. It's a very casual atmosphere, but if you're looking for a laid-back place to enjoy a satisfying Sunday meal, this is it. Being a diner, the service was good for what it was and overall it is an affordable place too!

Visited here again and enjoyed it just as the first. Service was nice and quick, super friendly and welcoming. The space is large with lots of seating. The food was good too of course. I had the biscuit and gravy which was nice and seasoned and filling. I also had a scramble.l, with potatoes eggs and bacon. It was good. I wish there was cheese, that would have been a good touch. I didn't care for the peppers and onions. But overall good spot to check out for a nice breakfast.

Popped in when looking for a Sunday pick me up drink and super happy I did. I heard that it can get busy but when we went (around 4) there was tons of space. This place has lots of space which is nice for sure. Coffee was good. Got the iced latte with lavender -next time I'd get it a little less sweet but overall the flavor was great. My sister got a macchiato which she said was delicious. Drinks came out quickly and barista was kind and helpful. Would def come back to check out their breakfast menu!

Dirty Chai

Cute spot with a massive amount of space inside, some very good coffee, very tasty food, and great service. I went here for a quick brunch and got a dirty chai and biscuits and gravy and it was just what I needed. Definitely recommend checking this spot out if you're looking for a classic brunch cafe.

Looked good tasted average.

The food was average. It was not hot. Had to return it for some heat. We had shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles. The place is very loud. It has a lot of space, but to communicate you literally have to yell. Waiter was nice. Never refilled our water glass. Had to ask. I will not make a second visit

The stuffed French toast was amazing. The blueberry syrupy spread is pretty good. Came back just to re-order it. Staff was very friendly. They have a great selection and I'm excited to come back and try some other stuff when I'm back in town. However, the automatic service fee on top of a tip was not cool at all. Be aware of that before coming to dine here!

Our waiter was friendly and gave great recommendations. I also swapped my regular fries for truffle fries, which were a great choice. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken with biscuits and got the sausage gravy on the side. The chicken was fried perfectly with a nice crunch, the biscuits were soft, and the sausage gravy was so good you could honestly eat it by itself. My daughter got the mac and cheese with a side of fruit and cleaned her plate.. no crumbs left! I'd definitely come back, especially to try their breakfast/brunch since they serve it all day. Overall, I'd recommend Ted's for a solid breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

I ordered the BBQ lamb shoulder pita which is also apparently rated one of the seven best sandwiches in North America. I can understand it. It was actually really good. A lot of good flavors. I felt like it was going to be not filling in the beginning, but was actually quite filling and had good meat depth in the pita. They pitas are made in house, so small imperfections make it more original. It is a little bit saucy so definitely grab some napkins, but it's a ton of flavor and definitely makes sense why it's one of their signatures. Tried the pita, the labneh, the Zaatar Croissant and the Roselle/Malabar tea. The tea was my favorite. Very refreshing, with a hint of spiciness. The pita was huge; each weighed about ~6oz so one piece is generally enough for one meal. It was freshly baked and very fluffy and relatively thicker than the pitas in most restaurants. The labneh was just normal. The Zaatar Croissant was stuffed with lots of labneh and coated in Zaatar. The Zaatar smelled amazingly but did not have much taste. The labneh went well with the croissant. In short, it is an interesting cafe but not a must-visit place if you are traveling in DC -- even if you are a fan of Middle Eastern food like me:)

We decided on the Honey Butter Pancakes, and the Shrimp and Grits. When I say everything was delightful, I mean everything was flavorful. The appetizer and grits entrée both had a little heat or a kick behind them, but it was just enough to enhance the flavor. The pancakes were small and differently shaped and presented, but they were so good. I would've given them a five, but our server walked past us several times and forgot to refill our water glasses. I believe it was his manager who noticed that our glasses were empty and proceeded to fill them. And because of the time we came in, it couldn't be blamed on too many customers.
