Last night, my fiancé and I went to The Coupe for happy hour. She was craving a fried chicken sandwich (one of her favorites for brunch) so she opted for the dinner version. She said the breakfast version is better because it comes on a biscuit and has an egg but she still enjoyed this one for dinner. We also ordered two tiki punches off the happy hour menu. The waitress said they were more tart than sweet so I loved them but my partner would've preferred it more sweet. we also got a generous serving of happy hour Sriacha wings for $6.50; they were too many to eat in the restaurant so we took most of them home. They were tasty and the wasabi ranch had a nice kick and flavor to it. The pb&j was probably my fave. Very flavorful. The server, Jackie was also very friendly. Ambiance was cool. We usually eat in the main eating area so it was nice to switch things up a bit and sit in the bar. read more

Don't get me wrong, the coupe is not bad. But it's not great. My peppermint mocha latte was not hot and a little too minty, almost toothpastey. I also got a poor (one and two bits) offering of the classic animal cracker coffee pairing when another table ate got six full crackers!! Bummer! My brunch entree was fried chicken and biscuits - I appreciated that it was dark meat, but it was so tough I couldn't hardly cut it with the butter knife I was given. The dish had a fine gravy but it was a little cold. The bacon was a nice touch but didn't have much flavor. The worst part of the dish was that the biscuit was like a hockey puck. I'm not from the South, I know little to nothing about biscuits but I do know that they're either crumbly buttery or flakey buttery. This was rock hard and flavorless. I dined here for the first time as a party of two at about 8:30AM on Thursday, October 12th. It was a quiet morning in the restaurant, and we were served promptly in all respects. Our server was kind; however, seemed a bit shy. I ordered the Hash Brown Bowl which had a very hearty portion of hash browns mixed with an egg, onions, mushrooms, bacon, jalapenos and probably a few other things that I am forgetting about. The meal was priced right and the food served quickly. The decor of the place was very nice as well. I would certainly return to this restaurant again in the future. read more

The Coupe has been on my list for a while and I'm glad I finally got to go. My sister and I weren't expecting many places to be open on the 4th of July, but The Coupe was. The menu offers a variety of choices, including Mexican and Asian influenced dishes. I enjoyed the Coupe Special ( French toast, eggs, chicken sausage, and hashbrowns) and my sister had the Shrimp Elote Loco (shrimp and grits). The service was also A+! This place is good combo affordability, delicious food, and great service. That's hard to find sometimes. I will be dining here again soon. read more

Tips for Parents: - Here for brunch? Put your name on the wait list and there's a fun and clean park on the opposite corner. - Your little person will get a shot glass of animal crackers (adorbs) - They don't have the plastic cups but they will put a plastic lid on the regular-sized glass. There have been some changes to this place! The couches have been replaced with tables and there's now a full bar on the far end. There is always a wait for brunch, and you must be present to put your name on the list. Once you are on the list, you can go to Yelp and check for your place in line. My party ordered the shrimp and grits, breakfast combo and chorizo scramble. Everything was well prepared and came out quickly. Note: I'd fallen in love with the chicken biscuit with bacon and egg and heaven...and it is now off the menu. Lastly, there are a LOT of add-ons. Their stuffed French toast is really good. It's stuffed with a citrus cream and topped with tart blueberry sauce. The blueberry sauce can taste a little too tart if you don't mix it with the cream, but you can also just ask for maple syrup and it should balance out. This is a really cute place and it looks like people come here to study too. When we came in, we were the only group that didn't have laptops or books out. Overall a chill place. I understand that COVID has impacted service and I feel for our waiter who appeared lost today so I'll just comment on the terrible food. My daughter and I ordered the blueberry pancakes, croissant, and a cappuccino. The coffee was bitter, the animal crackers that come with it were stale. The pancakes were rubbery and dense. It almost reminded me of microwave pancakes. There were 5 blueberries total between three cakes. The croissant was forgotten and maybe it sat under the heat lamp for that whole time because when it came out 30 min after the order it was greasy, deflated and rubbery. What happened? I used to love the food there. I'd take visitors from out of town there, now, I feel obligated to look elsewhere for my local brunch. It is a shame, truly enjoyed that place pre COVID. read more

The Coupe was a great brunch spot for my friends and I recently. The place was packed around 12pm on that Saturday so we waited for about 20 minutes for our table while getting a few drinks at the bar. I tried their Screwdrivers at the bar and went with an Iced Coffee and Whiskey concoction that I've never heard of before after that. It was an interesting taste! The layout of The Coupe is rather long, as it stretches all the way down the block but doesn't have much depth to the building. Right when you walk in, you are greeted with a picture of Obama enjoying a meal there, which I thought instantly made the place feel cooler. For brunch I tried their Chicken and Waffles. That is my go-to item for any brunch place that has them! These were slightly disappointing, but not completely unsatisfying. The chicken was a bit crispier than I like, with less meat and more breading. I would give them a 5/10 overall. As for the service, we had about 6 people at our table so we were pretty needy. Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning with a friend. We were able to be sewed immediately without a reservation which was nice. The price point is great and not too expensive. We both got the checked and waffles. The waffle was cooked perfectly. The chicken however could have been a. Little better. It was heavily battered which isn't my preference for fried chicken. I also got a side hash brown which was amazing. The hash browns are served as blocks with a sprinkle of sea salt for flavor. The Coupe is ok. Its a good coffee shop and has all-day breakfast which is very useful. I would consider it affordable, given the amount of food they give you. I have had the Coupe Special (Brunch), the fried chicken sandwich and the coupe fries. The Coupe Special, eggs, pancakes, potatoes--your typical brunch food. The major downside is that there is no unlimited drink deal...That made the coupe special not so special :( The Fried chicken sandwich is fried very well, very juicy, but little salt nor pepper. I suggest soaking or marinating the chicken before frying. The Coupe fries were an odd combination of short ribs, cheese curds and gravy...I don't think it was a well composed dish because you could barely have one bite with all the flavors. The wait can be long, but its always a nice spot to meet friends and share coffee. read more

The Coupe, where have you been all this time? Given that DC tends to fall asleep faster than a narcoleptic senior citizen, there's not much going on past a certain time. Hungry after 11? That's unfortunate and so are your options to choose from. Thanks to Don C.'s tip, The Coupe is here for the rescue! Located in the Columbia Heights sections of DC, it's actually on a relatively quiet street. Only street parking is available and it's limited. The décor is a fusion of diner meets café with a side of lounge. The vibe is very laid back. It reminds me a little of Busboys and Poets. Great place for hanging out and relaxing as opposed to turning tables and being rushed. The service is friendly and multiple staff members come to check on you. The menu is somewhat limited but has decent variety with a lot of imaginative twists. I tried the B&G Burger, Coupe Fries and Peaches & Cream Milkshake. The Coupe Fries is an appetizer dish that is large and filling enough to be an entrée. It features cheese curds, short rib "debris", roasted garlic, jalapeno, parsley, and brown gravy, all on top of a heaping pile of french fries. Absolutely delicious dish with a lot going on, but also one that comes together quite nicely. The amount of short rib is pretty generous and gravy is very rich as well as flavorful. Heads up though, garlic is a pretty pronounced ingredient in here. On the bright side, you'll be safe from vampires. The B&G Burger consists of an 8 ounce patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic mayo, apple wood smoked bacon, and gorgonzola blue cheese on a potato roll. First off, huge burger. The patty was moist, juicy and well seasoned. All the toppings blended well together, especially the gorgonzola cheese, which added a whole 'nother flavor dimension. Overall, good burger. The Peaches & Cream Milkshake was just ok. It didn't seemed mixed well enough and as such, the flavors were very muddled. Also, it was nowhere near as thick as it should have been. For me, the Coupe's appeal is definitely aided by their late night hours and the lack of viable competition during those times. That said, their food is above average and add that to a relaxed environment, good service and decent prices, I'm sure I'll be making many middle of the night stops here. read more

My friend wanted to get out of the MD Burbs and try something new. She spied this place after dining at Ted's Bulletin nearby. So we flew the MD coop and landed at The Coupe! I never knew there were so many cool places here on 11th street. I was familiar with the new scene on 14th, but this area is a hidden treasure of dining experiences. Of course we chose the place with the longest wait. They said it would be a 15 minute. It was probably closer to 25 minutes, but no big deal. We were famished though. We sat at a bistro table outside since the weather was great. She had a stack of five pancakes ($8) and loved them. I had my go-to restaurant breakfast treat - French toast (I am too lazy to make this at home.) It was not your average French toast, dear Reader. It was three pieces of French toast (baguette?) with blueberry compote, lemon curd and whipped mascarpone. ($8.25) I thought, based on the pictures here, that it would be tough, based on the type of bread they used. It wasn't. It was very moist, and delicious. I thought three pieces would not be filling, but I was stuffed. Oh, the hot chocolate is delicious too! Definitely order that over coffee or tea. Not sure why the 3 star average rating - my gal pal and I really enjoyed our lunch, and I'd definitely go back. There were so many enticing breakfast/brunch items on the menu; it was so difficult to decide. The Brussels sprouts appetizers is a must and will go far with 3-4 people. (We two didn't even put a dent in that bowl.) The roasted carrots at the nearby table looked and smelled equally amazing. Three glasses of wine, one beer, one app and two entrees later, the bill came out to nearly $100 with tip. Kinda pricey kinda pricy for lunch. :/ Sit outside on the street patio if the weather is amazing. Underwhelmed is an understatement. We came here for dinner later in the evening, and I enjoyed the chill ambiance. What I didn't enjoy was food and service. It took at least 10 minutes to place a drink order on a not-so-busy night. And while our server was friendly, he disappeared for long periods. I ordered the chicken melt. The chicken was dry and the cheese and spring greens it was supposed to have were nonexistent. The mac and cheese only tasted good with added pepper and hot sauce. The boy's fries were OK, but could have been much crispier. He liked his po'boy, and there was tons of shrimp, but the shrimp lacked flavor. The only good part of the meal? The brownie sundae. I can be pretty shallow sometimes. I like the decorations and the music here which is why I've been here four times even though I've never had a good experience here. The first time I was here for brunch. I had the Toad in a Hole which was a grey, soggy mess. The second time we had coffee and the waitress was nowhere to be found everytime we needed her. The third time was for dinner and though the server was nice, the salads were boring. The fourth time we went for coffee again and our waiter didn't show up for 10 minutes, and when I tried to order at the counter the waitress told me to just wait for my server. It took ANOTHER ten minutes to get our drinks. Bear in mind, this was the middle of the day, in the middle of the week. What is the deal? Forget this place. It's overpriced, the service is perpetually bad, and the food is not good. Looks aren't everything. read more

Don't come here if you have a gluten intolerance. I told them twice and I was still served a bun with my meal. Not good at all. Otherwise, the food was very much meh. Three of us went after a night of drinking. Typically, you can give drunken me anything at 2 a.m. and I'll think it's delicious. Unfortunately not the case here. I ordered "The Classic" burger with bacon and cheese with a side of fries. It was okay, but nothing special. The BF ordered three sides: bacon, sausage, and onion rings. The onion rings went untouched because they were actually onion straws, which isn't at all what he wanted. The bacon and sausage were okay, but again, nothing special. Our friend ordered an omelet (I can't remember which), and he was the most satisfied with his meal of the bunch. I was really hoping for a better late-night dining option. This is the first establishment in this area to really offer this option, and they sadly do not succeed. I know they had some rough patched when they opening, but it was my hope that they worked all of the kinks out by now. Sadly not the case. The best menu on the item that I have had and is very good is the omelet with tomatoes and goat cheese. My coworker enjoys the pancakes. I'm going to give this place the benefit of the doubt because I've enjoyed both times I've eaten here. First time I came here I brought along two friends not from the area. After hearing about the Coupe I definitely wanted to check it out. Upon walking in, the space is beautiful. I love the open space the place was. Much more than Tryst and reminds me of New York. Once seated, I order the Coupe Burger, which was a 1/2 burger that comes with lettuce, tomato, tabasco fried onion straws, sauteed mushrooms, and tillamook cheese. The side was hand cut potato chips. My friends order a salad and the chicken fried biscuit as their entrees. I enjoyed my burger. Although not the best I've had, it was good. The chips I loved because they weren't fried completely, giving them the same taste as a french fry. For about $8 its well priced. Both my friends enjoyed their entrees as well. For dessert, I order the Jasmine rice pudding. It was topped with dried apricots, candied orange rind, and pistachio streusel. I liked it, although again, not the best rice pudding I've had. The rice pudding itself was not sweet, but the toppings I'm assuming is there for that reason. I liked it, but felt it was a bit overpriced at $6.99 I believe. Almost as much as the burger. My friends order carrot cake and a slice of cheesecake and said they loved them. Second time I came, I sat on the bar side and order the rabbit pot pie. I loved it! its hard to find any pot pies outside of a TV dinner, and it came highly recommended. However, I will say that its expensive at $18. I also ordered an Old Fashioned from the bar and it was done better than a lot of other bars. Honestly though its crazy how the majority of bars can mess up a simple drink, but the bartender here was very friendly and told me it was her favorite drink to make. Quite good, on par with the ones I've had from the Gibson. Overall I'll give this place 4 stars. Pricing is all over the place. Some things are reasonable and some are overpriced. The food so far has been good. Service I haven't had any issues with. I'll give The Coupe the benefit of the doubt because they did just open recently. The Coupe you cannot go wrong here in Columbia Heights but it certainly isn't the rage of the town. The space is cool, which makes me bump them from a 3 star to a 4 star. Conveniently located right on 11th in the heat of CoHi we came in on a Sunday evening after an event and were surprised to get a table for 8 people in about 20 minutes. Most restaurants in the area were packed! This was a nice surprise. Service was fast and almost got everything right. One suggestion - don't order the brussels. They were steamed and didn't taste great, we actually sent them back. Apparently during brunch they have some banana or apple fritter thing that is the go-to, but is not served during dinner. Rest of the party ordered burgers or the Reuben with mac and fries. Food was decent but not necessarily worth the somewhat high cost. Appetizer selection was small for large parties. We got some crab dip and the pretzels but for the cost there was barely enough to share between the group. I appreciate the bar / coffee effort. Iced dirty chai could be a great to go snag from here. You can chose to not sit in the restaurant and sit in the bar / coffee area. Its cute trendy with different chairs and scenery. I could see myself bringing my laptop and working here, although the atmosphere seemed a bit dark at night. Cute place and not so bad food!
