If you're looking for a cool restaurant with industrial ambiance, interesting cocktails, and delicious food, the commoner is a great spot! The size of the space allows them to accommodate large groups or set up intimate two-top tables, and they have bar seating as well. The cocktail menu is fantastic and utilizes a wide range of interesting flavors and mixology techniques (I personally enjoyed the mandrake's cry), and the servers are great at describing how they taste. Despite not being very large, the food menu is varied & interesting and changes fairly frequently. I had the maitake on the server's suggestion, and it was delicious! My only down note on it would be that the menu reads that it is served with risotto, but it's actually served with a barley mixture (still delicious, just not what I would have expected & could disappoint someone who ordered the dish for the described "black truffle risotto"). The sides are also very good and an appropriate portion to share between two people (I got the asparagus which was cooked perfectly and served with a truffle butter sauce). Let me just start by saying how delectable the food was, I had some cheesy potatoes that had truffle which definitely made my taste buds dance, then the kimchi sweet Brussel sprouts, even my fiance who doesn't like Brussels sprouts loved them and couldn't believe he enjoyed them! Then I had the salmon as my main course and again, no complaints. The food and drinks were perfection. Now, what really shined was the EXCEPTIONAL service I had. This is definitely somewhere to go once in awhile due to the price but it should be on your list to try! I went with my 2 friends and we ended up taking bites of each other's meals. We got the beef tartare to start because why not. It was incredible and the grilled bread could've been it's own meal haha. I got the strip loin that came with shishitos and a twice baked potato. The steak was cooked perfectly. I could've eaten about 100 shishitos. The scallops were huge and probably some of the best I've ever tried. The risotto was creamy and al dente. Oh. my. Gosh. I don't even have any words for how happy I was with this brunch meal. This was hands down the best eggs Benedict dish I've ever had in my life (and for reference, I've tried a lot). The hollandaise sauce was freaking amazing. I dipped the potatoes in it too. Which....those potatoes. Omg. I'd be happy if those potatoes were my last meal on Earth. So freaking good! I read the review and decided to take a chance. I don't regret it because it was easy (staying at the Omni William Penn one block away), but there is definitely room for improvement. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Service was timely. The highlight of the dinner was the vodka martini which was perfect. We tied the Brussel sprouts and crispy potato starters. The BS were solid but the potatoes were heavy, greasy and bland. For the main course we had the cavetelli and the salmon. The cavatelli was like an upscale chef boyaredee. Super sweet and all one texture. Could only eat a small amount of it for that reason. The salmon was a big disappointment. $34 for a small piece of salmon that must have cost them $5 with no sides. The salmon was perfectly cooked at least but it was swimming in an overly lemony sauce which made it difficult to eat. There was also a strange tough piece of some kind of green (kale?) sitting on top of the salmon (like a 1/4 of a leaf). It was not tasty and definitely not a side. I do not recommend the salmon. I suggest coming for drinks and skipping the food. $150 meal that should have been about $100 max read more

Our family of five went there for Thanksgiving brunch at 2:45 pm. The ambiance and the service was 5 stars, however the food was less than three stars. Every item on the buffet was cold including the gravy. The food had good flavor, but the meal was not as enjoyable as it should have been. At over $60 per person, we expected better. The waiter asked us how everything was and I told him all the food was cold. The other family members all agreed and expressed the same concern to him. He seemed surprised to hear that, and said he would tell the manager. A few minutes later he came back and said he told the manager. The manager never came over to our table to see what could be done to make this right or to explain why this might have been. Thai leads me to believe that we were not the first people to complain about that and he was well aware of the problem. We will not go back there for any buffets in the future. read more

I have never been to this restaurant but I really enjoyed it. The second I walked down the stairs to the hostess stand, I was greeted with a smile. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Not long after that, our waiter George arrived to take our drink order. Drinks: I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and my guest ordered a Moscow Mule. The wine was good and the Mule was perfectly made. George was sure to never let our waters be empty. He was around often to fill them up. Food: We ordered the filet and burger. The filet was presented very nicely and was cooked exactly how was asked. The burger was recommended by our waiter, which is why I ordered it. The sauce that was on the burger finished it perfectly, and the sauce on the side was amazing. Not to mention the shoestring fries, which are my favorite! Ambiance: I love how the restaurant is located slightly underground. To get in, you must go through a revolving door and down a couple stairs. The music and lighting combined made our dinner feel more intimate and personalized. The seats are also very comfortable! The bathroom was very clean and also pretty. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was the menu. I looked at the options before we arrived and was hoping to order the swordfish, but when we were given the menu, it was not on it. First of all, the sub street level views from this restaurant are so interesting, and the restaurant itself is very gorgeous! That being said, the service is phenomenal. Our waiter was very attentive. And just to let you in on a lil secret, you can ask for the Waygu beef burger and fries even if it isn't on the menu! The burger is melt in your mouth delicious, and the fries are reminiscent of McDonald's fries but in a ramped up, fancy way. This place is in the lower level of the Kimpton Hotel. It's dim and a little dark but in a good way and comfortable. We had drinks (Influencer In the Wind, I Can Go Twice As High) and apps at the bar. The drinks were outstanding and the Salmon Ceviche was delicious. My friend and I visited here before seeing to Kill a Mockingbird at the Benedum. We made a reservation in advance on OpenTable. I'd recommend a reservation but it wasn't overly busy the night we went. I started with a cocktail that was absolutely delicious and even had some lavender in it. It was so flavorful and fresh. My friend and I both ordered the bass for our entrée. It had radishes and a pea hummus on the plate. It looks delicious and it was. Half way through eating mine I realized that part of my fish wasn't cooked, luckily I didn't eat that part. I still enjoyed the meal and said something to the waiter just to make sure the staff was aware for other patrons. He took the entire dish off our bill even though I had it in a good bit of it. In town for a conference. It was the only place that had reservation available during the times we preferred during our one night stay. So it was an easy choice. Though I'd say the website design could use a freshen-up, the menu more or less convinced me. And the food did not disappoint. We three people shared two apps, two entrees, and one dessert. The beef tartare was packed with flavor and texture. It's leaning on sharp and savory and almost briny, so concentrated that eating with bread was the better way to enjoy it than on its own. The pork belly was, on the contrary, tender and sweet. I think the only suggestion is the plate could have been properly warmed up cuz the syrupy sauce got hardened quickly on a cold plate. The fried pork chop had a bone fyi and was cooked and seasoned properly: not dry, juice, and done. There was some kind of white sauce on top. The bed of salad was brussels sprouts, shaved raw and golden raisins and dried cranberries (almost too many to my liking even though I know pork and dried fruits is a classic combo). The salmon was a bit more done but still tender (sous vide then finish on the pan maybe?). The sweet potato or pumpkin mash was so smooth though. The broccoli had a bit char but not too cooked. When the dessert came, I was surprised because I was hoping for something dainty, given the vibes I got from the previous dishes. But the buttermilk panna cotta was BIG and covered in a layer of sweet-tart fruit (forgot what it was) jelly that I think too thick. It overwhelmed the palate on my first spoonful because I didn't dig out enough of the custard. But the custard itself was good: smooth, soft, a bit tartness from the buttermilk, and pleasant on its own. Also it didn't taste like a gelatin-set custard. Maybe that's why it came in a bowl that it was the vessel of making instead of a plate. It would be nice if this is made in a glass jar and has a thinner layer of jelly. Not sure if it needs a crunchy element. Ha, maybe a piece of cookie to scoop things out? read more

I think I would need to try something else to really judge, but off the bat, the Grilled BLT is just way too greasy, since they confit the tomatoes and make the "L" part into a pesto, there isn't anything very fresh on it and way to much oil, so the flavors are all warm and don't really provide much depth against each other, but it's a pretty space inside, and their brunch and lunch prices are much more affordable than dinner if you want to try it. We came to The Commoner for Valentines dinner. We have excellent services and the food was outstanding! The focaccia was light a fluffy with delicious herb butter. And the shishito peppers were fantastic with the romesco sauce! For our main course we had the flat iron which was cooked perfectly. We also got the pasta with lamb neck sauce--delicious as well.
