This is certainly a very unique experience and fun in a group setting. The restaurant really looks like an old Inn from a long forgotten time and service was outstanding. They had a roaring fire going to keep the place warm and someone was playing some medieval instrument and did some signing. You can't choose what they serve, you get what's on the menu that day - so don't expect a traditional menu/restaurant experience. They offered mead and wine for drinks and had a non alcoholic spiced apple juice option. There was no ale available, which was a bummer since we had a lot of beer lovers in the group. All courses were served family style and the first appetizer was bread with a herby buttery filling, the second course was cheese with apple and pear slices. The main course had a piece of chicken, small salmon piece, a small filled pie and some pork to share. I wish they had a bit more food, especially missing the sides. There was a small spoonful of leafy greens, but only 1 portion for 4. The meats tasted delicious and we all wished we had a bit more food. You also eat the food on bread not plates, that was how people ate in the olden days. The dessert was absolutely not for me at all, they had two options, so our table ordered a bunch of each. The plum sauce dish could have been so much better, but was completely inedible because of the high amount of gloves used to cook it. I couldn't taste anything else and the pudding was also not that great. This might just be me not appreciating what people ate back in the 1400s for dessert. LOL Otherwise, certainly an experience to try. I wish I could have made pictures, but they clearly noted that it isn't allowed. Would definitely drum up more business if people know what to expect and see the food and all. Possibly even updating the website with pictures could help. They do have more going on in summer outside, the medieval village is open during summertime, a great option to combine the dinner with some educational things to do. read more

Food - the portions were very generous and the food was fresh. They do have a vegetarian option which I very much appreciated. To be honest though, I actually liked the bread and the fruit and cheese plates a bit more. The Blamanger was good and unique but it wasn't necessarily something I'd come back for. My companions very much enjoyed the meat options. The mead was excellent as was the ale! Service - though the Blamanger didn't knock my socks off, the service certainly did. You come here for the experience and are pleasantly surprised by the food (at least that was my take). The hosteler Roger sang us songs in at least three languages on a classic instrument through the evening, kept us apprised of the food, and continued educating us on medieval times. Ambiance - it absolutely feels like you're in an medieval inn. It's beautiful and I highly recommend spending an hour or more checking out the village before seating times (5, 5:30, 6). It was a bit warm inside but it was 87 and that is not typical for the area, so I think that's to be expected. Very much still in keeping with the theme of living history and absolutely worth it! What a fun and unique experience at this restaurant! We came here after a few hours of exploring their summer village days at Camlann. We made advance reservations (they requested at least 24 hours in advance) for 4 people on a Sunday at 5:30pm. They do seatings between 5pm - 6:30pm. Note - it's at least a 1 hour dining experience because there is also some live entertainment The food is unique because they claim they use 14th century authentic recipes - which is pretty cool! We ordered drinks - meade and spiced apple juice (both refreshing in the hot weather - it was a bit warm in the restaurant) For starters we were given this magical loaf of bread to share and it was soo yummy! They also provided some fruits and cheese which made a nice appetizer. For the main course, I got the fenberry pie which had roasted chicken, pork, and cranberries and it was delicious! I highly recommend getting this dish! Portions are generous and we left happy and full. To end the meal, we also got their dessert, there was an apple pudding and a custard pudding. My husband and I opted for the custard and it was very tasty. Entertainment - Sir Rodger who manages the Bor Hede is the main entertainment and he provided some wonderful tunes for us while we ate. The restaurant itself makes us feel like we've travelled back in time. 10/10 would recommend if you appreciate medieval history and food! read more

The food was generous, delicious, and beautifully prepared. My daughter and husband ordered the Fenberry Pie and I ordered the vegetarian option, Blamanger (rice and chick peas), and my son ordered the Sanc Dragon. The Blamanger was slightly sweet and had a nice combination of textures between the chewy rice, firm chickpeas, and crunchy almonds. The kids and I ordered Muste (spiced apple juice) was served in cold pewter mugs and was refreshing. My son didn't care for it so my daughter gladly helped him finish his juice. To be fair, my son is a picky eater. He really enjoyed the Rastons (bread bowl with seasoned bread crumbs and dried fruit) and Trencher Bread which served as a plate for our meal. Our host Roger also doubled as a minstrel and provided entertainment throughout the meal, singing songs throughout the dining experience. His first song was a riddle, the next song was about the south of France, and the final song was about Ireland. One of the most unique and fun dining experiences I have ever had. Smack in the middle of the Camlann Medieval Village, the restaurant looks like a solid wood tavern complete with hearth. The food comes in several courses and all of it is delicious. The rostons came out first, which are a bread and oil appetizer with poppy seeds and what I think were raisins. Then we had a cheese and greens board. For the entree, we were able to pick from four options. We had the fenberry pie, which was like a sweet and savory pot pie with cranberries. All of the food was surprisingly flavorful and with many rich spices. The host Roger even plays the lute and sings songs throughout the dinner experience. I visited the Camlann Medieval Village for the St. James Festival and had lunch at Bors Hede Restaurant in the village with my family. The restaurant serves medieval fare and looks the part with the ribbed ceilings, long tables and hearth. At lunchtime there 2 dishes available. One was Vegetable Pottage and the other was Egredouce, a pork dish. We ordered the pork dish along with some meat pies a la carte. They keep it authentic with no plates or utensils. The meal is served family style on a piece a bread they call a trencher. The pork dish had onions and currants and tastes like a medieval sloppy joe. A little sweet and a little sour. You can taste the wine in the dish. It's served with Cottswold and Devonshire cheeses and sliced apples and pears. The meat pies were a pie like dough stuffed with chicken, veggies and cheese. Apparently they have some special medieval wines and ales, but I wasn't drinking. The servers all dress in costume speak in Olde English. It was funny hearing them explain everything, then finally breaking character because no one could understand what they were saying. They said King's rules, no cameras, but I know no King but the King in the North. Overall, this was a fun experience, and it was interesting to see the kinds of simple foods people ate in medieval times. There's a full 12 course feast that they do several times a year during the Festivals with music and storytelling. If you're the type of person that loves Medieval times you should definitely check out Bors Hede. read more

Honestly I'm shocked this doesn't have as many views. I've been here four times now and always plan on going back. You get immersed into a medieval village as soon as you enter and it doesn't end with the restaurant experience either. The food is delicious. You get a four course meal. Starting with a classic medieval cheese sampling platter. You eat on a plate that's a piece of bread and wash your hands like in the olden times. The staff lights a fireplace and a minstrel plays and sings live. You get a choice of entree a weird bread thing and dessert and medieval beverages. We have come here in costume before too. I think the best part was my boyfriend asked to use the bathroom and the waiter told us we can't take baths there, but that they have a privy read more

My cousin and I just went there. It was magnificent. The host (also the singing minstrel and his lute) was ever so gracious. We started with a magnificent cheese and fruit plate. Cotswald and Stilton cheeses. For dinner, my cousin had the fenberry pye and I had the pork with boars sauce. We shared the warmed plum dessert with anise. Oooo la la. I've been coming here since the early 90's. I try to attend as many of the festivals and feasts as I can (Mid-lent, St. George, May, Midsomer, St. James, Harvest, Michaelmasse, All Hallows, Yuletide) but we also make reservations and just go for dinner occasionally. The workshops are great too! My favorites are the rastons, fenberry pye, erbowle, and crustade lombard. I was hooked on cotswald after coming here. :) They have a cookbook for purchase if you want to make things at home. read more

The Inn Keeper was not there that day.... but they allowed us to come in anyway with last second "reservations." What we didn't know is that they had no customers and could've gone home early, but were super nice and waited for us (40 mins) and then gave us amazing service. The waitress was lovely and attentive, but not overbearing. She was the only one working the restaurant, so she cooked all the food and waited on us.... and she sang while in the kitchen cooking- she had a lovely voice. It was a great experience- especially since it was only the 2 of us in the old medieval restaurant. The bread bowl appetizer...was AMAZING! The salad was so fresh and delicious....she said she had just picked the herbs from the garden- and I believe her. The food taste was so very unique that even though I didn't love all of it, it was an honor to have those flavors dance down my throat. It would be fun to go back when it is in full swing with the medieval village, but it will never be as special as having a private medieval dinner served for two. We love to go to the Bors Hede for our anniversary. This is the only place I know of that you can get a medieval experience. It is quite accurately medieval too. The only modern thing in the place is the toilet (thank goodness!) All but one time we have been there we have been the only ones there. It makes the entertainment feel a little awkward because it is focused completely on us. I just love this place! read more

If you happen to be in Seattle, WA, the Bors Hede Restaurant is well worth the 40 minute drive for the dining experience it offers. As we walked in the door, it felt like stepping back in time. It was lots of fun experiencing the meal. The food was much different from what we normally eat, but it was still quite tasty. We definitely left the restaurant with full tummies. They also entertained with songs throughout the meal, which was unexpected. We knew there would be some entertainment, but we didn't expect it to continue throughout the entire meal. The singing was superb, and the songs chosen fit well with what I would have expected for the time period. This would be a great place to go with a large group of people and rent the banquet room. This place was amazing! The food was outstanding! I loved how Roger the Innkeeper stayed in character the entire time, it really made for a great experience. We didn't visit the village as a whole so I'm not rating the village, just the Bors Hede restaurant. The food was really great. I felt like I was feasting at a medieval court! The plum sauce thing for dessert was literally out of this world good. It easily could have been served at any good restaurant. The experience of eating with our hands and off a trencher really helped give a good experience. The whole theme and decor of the restaurant was very cozy and helped set the mood for a 14th century inn/restaurant. We will definitely be going back. It's a bit of a drive from Seattle but that helps set the mood being out in a countryside type area. Can't wait to experience a festival here! read more

A Medieval Feast in Washington State. Who'd have known?! No photos were allowed inside so it's outside only. Food was a fabulous medieval feast with rastons, trencher bread, English Shire cheeses, almond fritters, fressh fruyte, herbs and greens salat, saumon en tens de nois, pork in wine and vinegar sauce, buttered worts, and croustade lombard. Of course we had hard cider and Bordeaux from King Richard's Southern lands. Our minstrel was wonderful and informative with all the local gossip and he shared the latest musical hits...as of 1340 or so! read more

From its old design to the always-in-character waiter / minstrel to the authentic 14th century recipes, this place is, by far, one of the most unique restaurants that I have ever visited. JUST NOT FESTIVE! I'd give it a one star but you would say I was just a negative-nelly and probably not read this review fully, lol. Went during summer festival on July 27, 2013. Paid the $45/pp (x4 pp) and expected more than we thought. The food was filling and served very uniquely. The real issues we had were timeliness of dishes after seating, not offered water or other drink besides the pewter cup in front of served 2 fingers deep per course. So sip sparingly as you are not allowed more or generous portions. Again, not even water was offered to help wash down the food. Almost every person in the room (appox. 22 pp) were upset and asking for more drink, even if they had to pay extra for it, and were told no. So here we all sat trapped in a dinner we all felt was going to be festive with food and drink plentiful.... Ehhh... Food quantity was ok, but that might be because we left for lunch offsite (due to food prices on site) and were not to hungry during dinner hour. Oh, also the beef was very tough, one lady claimed it was because the meat was old which was a little unnerving lol. The truth, the music was ok but no stories, as in 'story telling', but story in song ... So really just songs, since that's what a song does is tell a story. Dinner servants (staff) could have smiled, joked or help make the experience more festive. We sat in the basement, so bring a light jacket ladies. The fabric and items in the place could have been laundered at least once to help make the place seem less dirty. But maybe that's part of the 14th century. Nobody apparently washed walls or kept up on decorations. Just very disappointed in the overall attitude, offerings of this FESTIVE event. Music was provided by the hotelier only, so don't expect any festive dancing, or music by groups. Had to stop on the way home to get something to drink after leaving a restaurant is never a good sign of the restaurant. Plus, 20+ (one or two in our dining group didn't mind the issues I just stated above) complaining out loud during the dinner helped comfort us as we thought 'are we the only ones who are upset we just spent $180 for 1 full cup of wine over two courses and not offered nothing else to drink. The dining group was more entertaining than the servants (staff). Sorry, guys your festive event was an epic fail and you guaranteed a group of people not returning to experience your restaurant again. read more

This place is amazing! The food is perfect! Eaten on bread as a plate.. it's very fun eating here the man who runs this place clearly loves what he does. I asked to got to the "bathroom" he giggled a little because he got to respond " we do not have bathing houses here if you want there is a bathing house up the road.. but we do have a privvey" he couldn't contain him self. We got a laugh at it too. The mead was good and he played music while the food was being prepared and while we ate. The entire hall was dark and lit by candles and the fire place. It was valentine's day last we visited and we will be going again this valentine's as well. I can't say enough good things about this place.. the cost of diner was so inexpensive I was completely thrown off so I tipped him what I'd normally tip at a restaurant for good service plus the rest of what we'd usually pay at a super fancy restaurant. I was excited to celebrate my birthday with a medieval feast, (Michelmasse September feast) but I regret to say, it was a little disappointing. Mainly, too many people crammed into the downstairs feast room; there were 44 of us, and they really should have capped it at 40. We were not offered even water until after the host had made his (long) way around all the tables, cutting the bread for trenchers (plates); this, after an explanation of the feast dishes and service of the courses (and several people mentioning they'd like something to drink)! When offered a choice between water and spiced juice, I selected water since I was so thirsty. Not a minute later, the first course cider was offered, but I had a full goblet of water, so didn't even get to try the cider. As for food, the first course was good: shrimp, salad, a meat/almond dish, pork and cheese tart (yummy!), salmon, and applesauce-type dish. LONG wait between courses, and although we did have a couple of songs from Roger (the host), I guess I was expecting more minstrels throughout and between courses. Our main entertainment was watching the one serving girl take literally one bowl at a time from the table; we figured she was drawing it out to take up time. Second course was not as good as the first; good: roasted garlic gloves (great on the bread), and a stewed gourd dish; not so good: chicken pieces with gingerbread spices (way too much gingery taste, and I love ginger!). The biggest disappointment was the goose, not for flavor, but that each guest had to fight to carve off pieces themselves. It would have gone much more smoothly, and given more equal servings if they had carved them before bringing them to table. As it was, there was little meat left to scrape off by the time it got to our end of the table! At least I got to try the 2nd course ale, which was very good. The meal finished with fruit and gingerbread, which was more like little balls of ginger candy. Overall, not quite worth what we paid for it, and lacking in the minstrel/entertainment factor. Also, aside from the Bors Hede, which had some upkeep issues of its own, the village overall seems quite rundown and in serious need of repairs. I had previously visited in the late 80s, and while some changes are to be expected, it looked like some of the outbuildings were ready to fall down. A fun day trip, and MAYBE lunch at the restaurant would be better, but I can't really recommend the feast, sadly. read more

My boyfriend took me to the Summer Feast Sat. July 27th 2013. this was my birthday present by the way. I couldn't wait to have a glass of mead with my dinner. We spent $90 for our 2 tickets. The village was nice but our experience at the feast was VERY strange. We were all seated in the basement around a table but were never offered drinks or water? The only thing we were able to drink with our 12 dish 2 course meal was a half a glass of wine with each course. This wine was served after we started eating. The dinner consisted of a lot of meat which is hard to digest with no liquids. We were told no when we asked for mead even though they list it on their website. The man (Roger) was the man who gave each course its "Trumpet fanfare" and he was also the one after each course who would sing & play 2 songs. Meantime everyone around the table is thirsty and told "No" when we asked for drinks. To watch him joyfully play music in front of us while we were irritated and thirsty was very unnerving. He even told a man who said we were worried about drinks,"Then you should be cut off then". We had only been served a half glass of wine at this time. All in all don't waste your gas, money and time on this event.A very, very strange experience. read more

Unlike previous reviews, my experience wasn't on the same par. I called on Tuesday to make reservations, and the answering machine prompted me to leave a message with the number of guests and a time - which I did. Not feeling all that comfortable with this method, and as this was a very important day (my wifes birthday, our anniversy AND the day my best friend was going to propose to HIS future wife) I called a few more times over the next few days. I never managed to get in touch with a living person, so on Friday we got dressed in our kilts and bodices and headed towards Carnation. Our reservations were for 5, and at 4:15 I got a call from someone at the resturant. Apparantly their machine "lost" some messages on Tuesday and they had just checked the message I'd left earlier on friday - so they were calling me to let me know that they had decided to close. I explained the importance of the day, and that I had called several times. The chap I spoke with was very understanding, but explained there was nothing he could do - they didn't have enough "business" to merit staying open, so we were left on the most important day of the year for my wife and I to franticly dial around to find somewhere else to go. The melting pot was accomidating and we did manage to have a good time - the proposal was made, and it all turned out as well as could be expected. At the end of the day, though, I will never make plans around the Bors Hede again, and I doubt I will ever eat there. Everyone I speak with about nice places for dinner will know that this is an unreliable establishment, and it's not worth trying to plan anything with their antiquated system, because if anything happens all they will give you is a very polite "tough cookies". read more

We walked away hungry yesterday after spending $180.00! Summer feast....I don't think so. There were 22 people in the restaurant (we all sat together at a large table) every person there said it was their first time and complained that this is not what they expected for the amount of money they spent. We were served 2 glasses of juice or wine during the entire meal (small cups) which they fill your cups only halfway. When we asked for more juice or maybe some water we were told flat out "no you get 2 cups with your meal". The beef served was way over cooked very hard to cut...and chew. The rest of the food served was ok in taste but again not worth the money spent...the portions were incredibly small. Entertainment was supposed to be singing and stories during dinner what we actually got was one man who sang two quick songs. We ate in the Basement of the restaurant and it was cold and dark.
