Let me start by saying we are serious foodies and I believe this is my first 1 star I've reviewed. We've had some amazing experiences while in Beavers Bend and this is NOT one of them. Got here on a Saturday about 1. Walked right in and sat down it was about half full. Seemed ok at the beginning but pretty quickly noticed our waitress would disappear and took about 15 mins to order our lunch. She wasn't very outgoing and quick to move on yet saw three other waitresses so not really an excuse. Now to the food...... I ordered the catfish/shrimp basket with fried squash. My beautiful better half had the fried bologna sandwich. Several tables that came in after us ordered AND received their food before us. Remember the restaurant is half full at the most! Food arrives about 25 mins after ordering. For $12 basket the portion really is small. Looked good but.....very bland! No flavor in the fish, shrimp or fried squash....I mean NO FLAVOR!!! Her fried bologna sandwich was on stale bread that started falling apart within two mins of eating it. Big thick piece of fried bologna tasted like nothing. No spices appeared to be used on ANYTHING we ate. Not even exaggerating a bit! The tea was the best part of our lunch. We decided one last attempt to salvage lunch by ordering a fried chocolate pie. Once we found our waitress who was MIA ( by now the restaurant is about 1/3 full ) we ordered it. No kidding it took 10-15 mins to get it and not a single new table had come in. Well....that was a waste! Very plain and nothing fancy or even worth mentioning. Tasted like someone took a pie from 7-11 and put chocolate pudding inside. Stay away from this place! Several other restaurants so much more reasonable within a mile and even better prices! Not even going to post pictures I took of the food because it would be deceiving to see that they look appetizing and don't want to lead anyone to believe this place is worth 2 cents! read more

Atmosphere is unfriendly- after a visit to the petting zoo and some shopping our family went to this location for lunch. Instead of a greeting, the hostess looked us up and down and asked if we had face masks. We were then alerted to the size restriction on indoor dining - 6 people only. Please consider that we have been in town for several days with a party of 10 and this is the first location that was restrictive. If you are looking for a COVID centric place (one of the few in Hochatown) go here - otherwise go right down the street for more fun, freedom and a great dining experience. read more

First off the only reason this isn't a five star is because perfect is unattainable. But, this experience was great! Me and my new wife are on our honeymoon and wanted some good fish. We ordered the pound of fish with fries, fried green tomatoes, fried corn, and hush puppies. All one meal deal too just saying AMAZING! Everything was cooked to perfection. Had our entire group in here for dinner on the final evening of our weekend getaway. It was recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. A whole lot of good southern cooking from here. The fried mushrooms and jalapeños to start hit the spot. They have a lot of drink choices for the adults in the group, beer and mixed cocktails. I myself had the fish and shrimp. Both of them were fried in a delicious breading. A bunch of the people that ordered the chicken strips said that breading could have used a little more flavor, but they all still seemed to enjoy them nonetheless. Not worth the money! There were 5 in our party and 1 had to wait fir her food-it came after the rest of us were done eating. No flavor to the chicken. They didn't have any coffee (we ate at 11am), 4 of us ordered bologna sandwiches, they came to the table and told us one of us would need to change our order because they only had enough bologna fir 3 sandwiches because the rest was frozen. They brought plain white bread with the chicken that was to have rolls because they didn't have any rolls---the lady that makes the rolls was off. The food just isn't anything to brag about. 1st time visiting beavers bend, we had dinner here our 1st night in. We were a party of 18! They sat us with just a 15 min wait. The staff was friendly and kind. The decor was a nice vintage style which was very comforting and cool to look at. We ordered family style sides and various pounds of catfish, chicken strips, bone in fried chicken, spicy and regular. The food was awesome, not over battered the chicken had a sweet flavor. Try the fried mushrooms and sweet potato fries! They also own the store next door which had a lot of cool things to look through, it kind of reminded me of the cracker barrel store! Wife & I came through here today. I want to start this off by saying the food and service was Fantastic. I ordered the fish basket, hush puppies, and Mac and cheese. MAC AND CHEESE, was the absolute best I've ever had from anywhere. I don't know how they make it, but keep doing it that way and don't change it. Wife had a BLT & fries in which she enjoyed. The ONLY reason this place doesn't get 5 stars, is because of the fish, I'm not a fan of farm raised fish. Coming from a commercial fishing background I know not only the importance of buying fresh wild caught fish, but the taste differences as well. Especially when it comes to catfish, as they are scavengers and will eat anything. Wild caught may be a tad more expensive than farm raised but I'd pay more all day for fresh wild caught, even if I had a choice I'd still pay more. The hostess appeared hopeful and said she would go ask her manager. The manager told her no. That we could not split our family to eat there and could not be served because we had more than six people. I ordered a side salad and asked for their vinaigrette. When they brought our food, they brought distilled white vinegar in a small cup instead saying they were out. This place is a happening spot in hochatown, there was always a wait. However, We went in for brunch and didn't have to wait long. The place is small and busy but very cute and unique in the way it is set up. We did have to wait a while for our food and they didn't get out order right. We ended up having to pay for an extra meal price because the waitress did not tell us how much the up charge for okra was to my husbands meal, and for some reason his was the only meal that didn't allow changes. This was strange because all he got was a fried bologna sandwich. We didn't complain, we just left because we had already been there for quite some time. The service is not very fast, and I heard the manager mention something about the kitchen being way ok the back. I heard apologies to almost every table surrounding us for the food wait time. We came to visit the Blue Rooster on 2/26/2021 with our family of 9. We called ahead to ask if the establishment they could seat our family and the answer from the lady who answered said they could accommodate our party of 8. As we were waiting for our table the manger Makayla was giving us looks. Not sure why we were getting looks from her! 10 minutes later we were getting seated at our table the manager came over to us and stated they could not sit us because our party was too big. We had asked why and she said it was a state mandate or policy of their restaurant. Humm extremely interesting as we saw a family of 9 sitting outside... Now let's get to the fun part that I still extremely fuming at. The party of 9 was a white family that was just finishing up. Our family is CULTURALLY DIVERSE... The manager Makayla informed us that she could not sit us becuase of the "6 people rule" . Honestly I am extremely appalled at this gesture that she could not sit us because honestly of the 6 people rule when there was a family sitting outside that was a party of 9! Now I don't want to pull the racial card cause I am a white male and like I said before my family is culturally diverse. This experience was just appalling! My daughter and 5 month old son had to experience this and they should have never have to experience this in today's world! Now as far as our waitress she was amazing! But the real issue was the manager telling her to clean the outside tables and separate the tables outside BEFORE taking our drink order. Oh but it gets better. As our waitress takes our daughters drink order since we were still deciding on what to drink. The waitress said she will come back to get our drink order. She comes back a second time as tells us the manager says we need to now order at the Front hostess stand instead of us ordering from our waitress. I decided to try this place while making my way back home after spending a couple days in a cabin in town. I visited right at opening June 2nd. The food here was good. The beans were amazing. The fried green tomatoes were pretty good too but I don't understand why they gave me two ranches that were both only half full. It seemed that they could have just filled one up and given it to me. Overall, It is cute and the decor is simple and rustic. It is apart of this whole rest stop type strip. My waitress, Jennifer was super nice and accommodating. The prices were a little pricey but it is a tourist area so i kind of expected that. The two star deductions were that they charge you for refills, boo. And while I was there there were staff members in the kitchen gossiping or talking really loud. Like I could plainly hear their entire conversation. It seemed like they were horse playing and discussing a very important event where someone who was someone else's best friend in high school had hit their son or something or another. My family and I eat here every year when we visit. Every year the food is consistently good, however, the service is consistently bad. Tonight we ordered an appetizer and 30 minutes goes by without receiving it. We only saw our waitress twice, so no refills. We asked the woman bringing our food for some things, she didn't return. My dad went to the bar to ask for water and was told, "oh I'm just a bartender", my moms salad was delivered with no dressing, and other requests that were not met. I talked to the working manager about the poor service to which she replied, "oh I know". If you want good food and extremely poor service definitely try it out! read more

My husband and I ate here around 2pm and it was not crowded and easy to grab a table indoors. Our hostess came over and laid butcher paper down for us to doodle on while we waited for our food. To begin, we tried the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes. They were both yummy! Highly recommend the green tomatoes though because you can't find those everywhere. For our meal I had the cheeseburger and he had the catfish. He liked his fish, but we both agreed the burger was just too good! We finished off with a chocolate fried pie. Love the food, but service is slow and sometimes takes forever to get your food. The fried pickles are super good. The tea is usually too sweet for me, so I get half sweet and half unsweet. Their burgers are good. New thing for them but they are doing great with them. I also love the fried shrimp basket. The hush puppies have corn in them. So good. The beans are hit or miss. But when they're good, they're really good. Love the atmosphere here and that my little one gets to color on the paper on the table while she waits for her food. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Very poor service, food was lacking and the cost was ridiculous because we were charged incorrectly. Since we weren't given a check, we couldn't see what we were charged for and it wasn't until we left that we realized it couldn't be right. We pulled up the menu online and could see that two of us had been overcharged by $5 each. The kids fish basket had two catfish filets that were smaller than my little finger. One of us has an allergy to dairy and had a conversation with the waitress about any dairy free dressing (don't have any) and ordered the salad with no dairy and no dressing. It came out with cheese spread all over the top of it. I might add that we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. I can see why. Would never go back. read more
