My family and I vacation in the Broken Bow at least once a year, but have never been able to stop by The Blue Rooster. However, we stopped in to the pizza spot near by and it was open so we ordered to go for my youngest son. He got the chicken tenders and fries and they were hot and fresh out the fryer! Even better that they tasted really good for what it was. Upon entering, you could tell it was a quaint local spot that probably had a handful of regulars during the week. They had outdoor seating and a cute bar area where some folks were relaxing. The staff was very friendly and quick to help us with our to go order. We will surely be back and can hopefully sit down to enjoy a meal to see how the other food is. read more

After wrapping up an early afternoon hike, we went looking for a place for beers and bar apps. Based upon Yelp, we picked the Blue Rooster. Like many eateries in Hochatown Ok, this one had marginal curb appeal. Upon entry, we encountered a fridge full of dozens of craft beers and a large sign: "It ain't food if it ain't fried." Seating was mostly picnic tables on covered porches. OK for apres-hike, but I wouldn't take my prom date here. We ordered all of their fried apps: jalapeños, pickles, cheese curds, squash chips, onion strings, etc. All were exactly what we expected. Beers and spritzers were interesting and justified seconds. The secret ingredient at the Blue Rooster was our waiter KENNY -- fun, knowledgeable, and quite able to read the crowd and steer us to the eats and drinks we really needed. We all ordered different craft beers in cans, and we were awestruck at the clever way they were presented: with the empty can perched on the edge of the glass. Somebody out to file a patent. Went there couple hours before closing time and saw 2 employees, 1 waitress and a hostess. Hostess said they only had 1 waitress and would probably take about 40 min before we got food, but could seat us. We got impression they weren't too happy to have more ppl coming in. So we just told her we would go next door to the pizza place. Our gain the pizza was great over there! If you're gonna be open have enough staff to handle 5-6 table that were occupied. read more

We walked in at 1pm on Tuesday with our family of 18 and 2 infants. The manager said they need a reservation because they close at 4pm. I offered to split the group and they said no because it would be one ticket, I said we have 4 families and can split our tickets and they still wouldn't take us. The place had only 2 tables seated. My husband and I had the best experience here! We're big foodies and love to be in the kitchen and try new restaurants, so we're tough critics. We sat at the bar and the bartender is beyond lovely. She was very sweet, warm and welcoming. I got an "adult" cherry limeade and my husband got a glass of the smal batch Hochatown whiskey. Both were fantastic. My limeade was both tart with a hint of sweetness- very refreshing and exactly what I wanted after a hike. To start we got the fried mushrooms, they were hot and fresh and delicious! Not too overly bartered and super juicy. I got ranch and my husband got bbq sauce and both are delicious- you can tell they're both made in house! The bbq sauce has a hint of spiciness that we loved. We split the Yard Bird half portion spicy and it was HUGE. Great portion and great flavor!! Super juicy and not overly spicy. We got it with fries, beans and an extra side of fried okra. All I can say is that they're all fantastic and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Very casual place but it was exactly what we were lookin for. Great for couples and families. Unfortunately, I had to give this pace at least one star to be able to give my review. This place is a joke! Called to order for pick-up since we were staying in a cabin about 10 miles away. When ordering on the phone, the young lady put me on hold multiple times because she had to ask someone else in order to answer my questions. Apparently, it was her first week there. Once order was picked up, we arrived to our cabin to finally eat our meal to the surprise that no silverware, no napkins and no tartar sauce for the fish was added to our bag. When I called, the manager, a rude female, was not apologetic at all. Her response was "you're welcome to come pick up some tartar sauce if you want". First off, I would like to make potential newcomers aware that this establishment has a somewhat limited menu. Don't let that deter you from stopping by though! My mother and I dropped by yesterday [05/06/2025] to try something new and we picked up the 1LB catfish deal and a boudin ball starter. Everything was absolutely delicious and made perfect. The customer service yesterday, was on point. Kenny, our waiter was very friendly and very accommodating. The kitchen had messed up and made two peach pies instead of an apple pie and a peach pie, but they were quick to remedy the situation and send us home with an apple pie for free and with an apology. The fountain machine was also on the fritz that day, but it was remedied as well. I would like to recommend their own ale, "The Rooster" and Sneaky Snake. I also tried F5, but it's an IPA and for people who love having some bitterness to their beer. The patio was beautifully decorated, not overdone, and it was just nice to sit out and enjoy the rain. One small recommendation to the owners though. Please, get some butter and some Cajun gravy. Make it as good as your food was that day and people will keel over for it. I had to explain my order twice when ordering after being told that my meal did not come with fries when the menu clearly stated that it did. My order came out correct but my husband's came with no fries due to an additional misunderstanding of the order by the waitress. Enjoyed the food but honestly probably would not go back. Took 2.5 hours to get out of there because "they cook everything to order". Got the half bird spicy and it maybe tasted like black pepper and nothing else. Mac n cheese was just Kraft box cheese, the Cole slaw tasted like nothing as well but for some reason it had cheese in it which also tasted like nothing. So it's not cheap, good, or fast service. Worst experience we had in Hochatown all weekend. Had a party of 14. Was told even though the restaurant was almost empty that it would be a 30 minute wait to be seated while the kitchen preps the food. The food was okay, nothing special. Everything is fried for the most part except the salads. The ambiance of the restaurant fits the theme, but it feels old or worn down and half-a**ed. Their decorations for Christmas look like they just went to Walmart and threw some garland up everywhere simply to say they're "festive". The big problem is the service. The waitress was nice, but she "forgot" to ask us for our order after she initially asked us what kind of drinks we wanted. So we waited about 15-20 minutes just to place our order and then it took around 40 minutes for our food to arrive at the table...and there weren't even that many people in the restaurant! We have 2 small kids (5 & under) that were starving and it took so long even my usually patient kids started to complain. To top it all off, this only alright tasting food cost $90 including tip for 2 apps and 3 entrées. The great thing about this place is the location. The drive in any direction is well worth the trip. The atmosphere is fantastic has tons of outside seating, as well as inside seating with great views. The place is super clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and helping us even identified trails to go on as well as great breakfast places they're very attentive.
