Our getaway was to include only a couple of restaurant meals. I researched well and chose The Blue Rooster as one of those. The MAIN reason that was our choice is that they advertised crawfish. I love crawfish and look for any opportunity to have some. We asked about crawfish availability as soon as we saw our waitress. She said they had them, and we placed our orders. She came back to the table and explained that, since they had just opened, it would take 20-30 minutes to get the crawfish ready. That was fine, and we were fine with that to get what we wanted. The waitress came back in a few minutes to tell us that the crawfish may not be ready at all. She had me choose something else on the menu as a backup, but only, I said, "if the crawfish definitely aren't available." Nothing else really looked inviting, with the prospect of having crawfish. I chose the catfish meal as second-best. The waitress brought our food, and put the catfish basket in front of me, with a thin apology. About 20 minutes later, I saw trays of freshly-boiled crawfish presented at seemingly every table. We had obviously been misled, and this dishonesty tainted our visit. The only reason that I have given more than one star on this review is that the waitress was attentive and friendly. I don't think that she was in on the bait-and-switch. Also, the food we did get was good (once my wife sent back her chicken and dumplings for being cold!). My family's vacation money is precious, and we choose carefully how to spend it. I am not hopeful about giving that away to The Blue Rooster again. They had one shot, and wasted it. read more

I took us a while to order right here. We all love the fried catfish and boiled shrimp. But the secret weapon here is the yard bird. Order one spicy and on regular and eat it there. If you take it to go, it's never quite the same. The speciality cocktail menu is fun too (giggle when you order if you must buy the slick kitty transports you to a beach). My husband LOVES the coleslaw. It's got apples and cheese so it's defiantly for the open minded. My kids refuse to eat everything but one loves their hamburgers and fries (they are stick fries and good!) and the other kid gets a side of Mac and cheese for herself and won't share. I like their sweet potato fries as well. Let them do what they do best- fry stuff and you won't be disappointed. Try the best you can not to stuff yourself on the yard bird (get the whole thing for your table, not just pieces. Trust me) then order the fried pies. Cherry, apple and peach are good but the apricot is epic. Remember this is a fluid vacation place that runs on lake time. This. Place. Was. Awesome. The service was spectacular considering we were here at prime lunch time on a summer Saturday. Food came out quickly and hot as heck too! Started with some fried green tomatoes and a half and half basket (fried pickles and jalapeños) I've never had fried green tomatoes as I hail from the West Coast and that's not really a popular dish there and I'm not mad this was my introduction to them. They were AH-MAZING!! Fried pickles and jalapeños were what you'd expect. Had these items with the boom boom sauce and ranch and both sauces were spectacular and went perfectly with the apps. For lunch we had kids fried chicken baskets with fries and one with Mac. My kids traditionally love chicken tenders and they happily gobbled these up without much encouragement from me--total win there, Blue Rooster!! My husband got the fried shrimp basket and I decided to try the fried catfish basket--another thing I've never eaten before. Both were absolutely delicious!! I usually hate tarter sauce but this one was wonderful and tasted excellent with the hot fried fish. There were hush puppies and fries that were equally as delicious. Finally had to round out my meal of firsts with a fried pie to go (yup--never had a fried pie either! I mean we have fresh seafood and the beach in CA but without the fried stuff and the green tomatoes have I ever really lived?!!) fried apple pie was seriously the best pie I've ever eaten. This place was hands down the best place I've eaten in Broken Bow so far and would happily drive the 4 hours from OKC again just to dine in this amazing establishment. Wondering how I haven't written a review years ago -- hands down my favorite restaurant around Beaver's Bend. Please accept my unapologetic warning that (virtually) everything is fried. Fried catfish, fried pickles, fried chicken, fried jalapeños. Understanding the menu can be confusing at first. The catfish & chicken come as one or two pound buckets including a side ("snack"). The upside is everyone will likely leave stuffed. The catfish and hushpuppes are a must. Catfish is perfectly fried in yellow cornmeal and falls apart in your mouth. Use the lemon wedge and dip into their sauce. Hesitant the first time, catfish here is now my favorite. Waitstaff is always nice. They rip a giant sheet of paper as the tablecloth for kids (and adults) to doodle on. Once, we took dessert once to go, but usually never have room for it. The building itself is casual and comfortable. If the weather is pleasant, get seated outside for some additional space. Atmosphere is casual (but not too casual). Ate here for the first time over the July 4th holiday weekend. Tons and tons of people waiting for a table at the Grateful Head and we walked right in The Blue Rooster and got a table. We were thinking there must be something wrong here, but to our surprise we had a lovely dinner on the patio. The patio is adorable. Our waitress, Tabitha, very personable and helpful. Our food, fried pickles/jalapeños, fried shrimp baskets, shrimp poor boy, bologna sandwich all was good. I can't figure out why it wasn't packed, but definitely worth a try. I'll be back. read more

Don't come here. Wait for the pizza place. Bad service. Bad attitude. BAD food. Group of 8 with no other tables. 3 orders of the special today which was gumbo. We waited for 15 mins for the special gumbo when everyone else had their food. Later we heard the staff say the gumbo was made the day before. The rice was not cooked and the taste was horrible. I got the fried balonga sandwich and I was really let down.... so it wasn't really fried all that much and it was barely 1/8 thick... and one piece.. who just does one piece? So the rest of the veggies and cheese on here were the filler and it was well just ok... if it had two or three pieces of that fried balonga I would have probably been happier.. but it didn't have much taste... if skip this one... But here is why it got a 4.... the fried pickles and ranch was pretty good as an app... the top reason it got a 4 was the chicken tenders... they were friggin awesome... you definitely need to get you a basket of those suckers and be fat and happy afterwards... I wish I knew what they put on here but they are a little sweet and have just the right amount of salt and pepper at the end... definitely get the fried chips bc they are top notch awesomeness.... The wifey got a fried shrimp poboy and said she liked it and would definitely get it again. We finished this visit off with apple pie and ice cream and it didn't let the end of the meal down.... The lost star was so because of the let down in a staple food and the service was just a little on the ok side... but you should come to expect this in some small towns...AND they have a cute little note on the menu so for all those that didn't quiet read that part and ding them on that...... One star for many reasons. As soon as we walked in, one of my friends went to the bathroom and there was no soap. She let the lady with short hair know and she gave her a disgusting look like she did not care one bit. Then when I went to the bathroom, I let them know AGAIN there was no soap. There is also no changing table and they joked about it when I asked if they had one. Food was only OKAY. Service wasn't great and when it got slightly busy the guy (who was probably the manager or owner) seemed VERY stressed. Drinks weren't refilled. You had to pay for WATER..... lol. Then I ordered a chocolate desert and when I asked why everything else came out and not that the guy said "oh I gave that to another table. Let me have them drop another one." In the Broken Bow area for a family weekend over Memorial. Food was average but service was horrible. Started when the first person showed us to a table was yelled at by a co-worker in front of us and then we were forced to move to a second table. It was my wife and two adult sons with me and we were never shown any drink menus. One of my sons asked about adding fried okra and was told "you can order whatever you want as long as you pay for it". That earned the less than 5% tip alone. It got worse as we had to continually chase her down for tea refills. A different waitress brought our food to us with a "I guess this is yours statement". I wanted more tea to go and desert but by then was so frustrated I decided to leave. We wanted to love it... After we heard that this place was owned by the sister of the owner of Grateful Head we had to stop by. It was the week before spring break. At first glance we liked what we saw. Grabbed a table on a half packed patio. Initial service was great. Fried Pickles - we liked how it came with fried jalapeños. It was 12:30 PM on a Monday. Then we waited for the fried chicken. Menu says 25 minutes but after waiting 45 minutes the waitress came by and asked us if we were ready for our bill. We nearly freaked out when she asked this. Seriously, had we been waiting all this time for nothing? We reminded her that we were waiting on our chicken order. She looked at us like "what chicken order?" She returned 5 minutes later saying it was about to come out. Needless to say, we received our order. Yes, the chicken was good. Was it worth the wait (now nearly an hour)? No, not worth an hour wait. But it was hot and tasted good. Relish sides of Bread and butter pickles were good. Side of mac and cheese was small elbow macaroni with creamy cheese sauce. Better than the box. Cole slaw was creamy, with a slight sweetness. I would have preferred sweeter. But I like the apples and chunks of cheddar. My wife ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy. It was stuffed and served on a baguette. She enjoyed it. This place has potential for a great vacation eatery. Well, this visit was not up to the standard we have previously enjoyed here. We had the fried chicken and it is possibly the most bland friend chicken we've ever had. In addition to being pretty flavorless, while the inside was cooked to piping hot and juicy perfection, the crust tasted like perhaps it had been fried in oil that was just a little too hot. The addition of salt and pepper helped, but they should be doing this in the kitchen. Can't beat the price though. $16 for a whole chicken. But that includes no sides, which suits us fine. We used to absolutely love eating at The Blue Rooster. My wife is in love with fried chicken. It used to be so dang good here. Well not anymore. We went there last night and the food was almost inedible. The fried pickles had almost no breading whatsoever on them. The fried chicken had no flavor at all. The okra which is my favorite thing in the world was absolutely terrible. The fries also had some weird flavor. How can you mess up fried okra and french fries? As we were leaving I told my wife I just hope we don't get sick. It was just not good at all. It is really sad cause this is always the first place we go when we come to Broken Bow. I normally don't complain about bad customer service, however, this was the worse experience of my life. I ask to speak with the manager or someone who had some authority. Coward did not come out and make things right. This is what happened. I ordered a grilled chicken salad, the lettuce was dark and mushy; cold and slimy chicken that was supposed to be grilled. Ashely our waitress asked, do you want to order something else. So, I agreed and order a cat fish basket, they forgot about my order. So, I told Ashley don't worry about it. I am not hungry anymore, please bring our bill. To my surprise she brought the bill and charge me for the bad chicken salad and for the cold fish. I asked once a gain to speak to the manager. They refuse to come out and fix the bill. Ashley went back to the kitchen and asked her kitchen supervisor to waive one of the meals. Let me start by saying we are serious foodies and I believe this is my first 1 star I've reviewed. We've had some amazing experiences while in Beavers Bend and this is NOT one of them. Got here on a Saturday about 1. Walked right in and sat down it was about half full. Seemed ok at the beginning but pretty quickly noticed our waitress would disappear and took about 15 mins to order our lunch. She wasn't very outgoing and quick to move on yet saw three other waitresses so not really an excuse. Now to the food...... I ordered the catfish/shrimp basket with fried squash. My beautiful better half had the fried bologna sandwich. Several tables that came in after us ordered AND received their food before us. Remember the restaurant is half full at the most! Food arrives about 25 mins after ordering. For $12 basket the portion really is small. Looked good but.....very bland! No flavor in the fish, shrimp or fried squash....I mean NO FLAVOR!!! Her fried bologna sandwich was on stale bread that started falling apart within two mins of eating it. Big thick piece of fried bologna tasted like nothing. No spices appeared to be used on ANYTHING we ate. Not even exaggerating a bit! The tea was the best part of our lunch. We decided one last attempt to salvage lunch by ordering a fried chocolate pie. Once we found our waitress who was MIA ( by now the restaurant is about 1/3 full ) we ordered it. No kidding it took 10-15 mins to get it and not a single new table had come in. Well....that was a waste! Very plain and nothing fancy or even worth mentioning. Tasted like someone took a pie from 7-11 and put chocolate pudding inside. Stay away from this place! Several other restaurants so much more reasonable within a mile and even better prices! Not even going to post pictures I took of the food because it would be deceiving to see that they look appetizing and don't want to lead anyone to believe this place is worth 2 cents! read more

I appreciate that this place was more inviting than the Stevens Gap Restaurant. When 2 cars of black people pulled up over there, it was a scene of looks. We politely got back in the car and came here. The girl at the Hochatown Escape Game place told us that the service here was slow, and boy it was. Our first server took our orders but didn't check on the status of our orders period. There was another server (she was black) who multitasked and checked on our orders and brought out food out. I don't remember her name, but I made sure to give her a $20 tip. Also I noticed that when I gave that server the tip, the initial server saw that and gave us drinks to go, that we didn't ask for. I was confused. I forgot to talk about the food. The catfish and fries was VERY GOOD!! They were small but very seasoned. Their homemade ranch sauce was very flavorful. If I could give it no stars I would. Awful "service". I put service in quotes because you order in your phone and then have to get onto the staff to bring you anything. They brought us a pitcher of water and no cups. Then when we asked for cups it took them 10 minutes. When we confronted the front of the house about it he argued with us and told us to sit down and wait. The food wasn't that good and it wasn't worth it.
