There are places you go... and then there are places that feel like you've finally come home…read more The Painted Pony is the latter. We adore slipping away for lunch and settling onto the patio, where the world softens--shade drapes gently overhead, birds sing as if they've been hired just for the occasion, and time... well, time slows down enough to breathe. The service is nothing short of immaculate--attentive in that quiet, effortless way that makes you feel seen without ever being interrupted. And the food... oh, the food. The bacon-wrapped dates must have been crafted in heaven... or perhaps meant for the gods and somehow gifted to us. The tuna melt was so transcendent I found myself wondering if I had ever truly tasted tuna before... or if I had just been living a lesser version of the experience all along. And the beef bourguignon... my heavens. It was as if your grandmother--if she were also a five-star chef--had been waiting for you, simmering something rich and soulful to welcome you back after a long journey. Even the tea felt royal... and the mocktails were so delightful, so thoughtfully made, that not once did we miss the alcohol. The Painted Pony isn't just a meal... it's a return.

The Painted Pony in St. George, UT - A Cozy Gem with One Miss (Pass on the Crab Cakes)…read moreIf you're looking for a solid upscale dinner spot in downtown St. George, The Painted Pony in Ancestor Square is a strong choice. Tucked into the Tower Building, this New American restaurant nails the Southwestern-meets-fine-dining vibe: intimate indoor seating with contemporary regional art, fresh flowers, and soft lighting, plus a charming patio for when the weather cooperates. It feels romantic and relaxed without being stuffy--perfect for date night or a special occasion while visiting southern Utah.c91b9be2267e Service was attentive and friendly without hovering. Our server knew the menu well and made solid wine recommendations (they've got a nice list, and no-corkage Mondays are a nice touch if you BYO from a Utah store). Portions are generous for the price point--definitely not the tiny-plate nonsense you sometimes get at fine-dining spots. We started with the carrot jalapeño soup (bright, flavorful, and a nice kick) and the baked brie, which was rich and perfectly paired with the seasonal chutney and crostini. For mains, the bone-in pork chop and the hanger steak were highlights--well-cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor from the fresh ingredients and thoughtful sauces. The sides (mac & cheese and haricot verts) were solid too. We finished with the key lime pie, which was a bright, creamy winner. One note, though: pass on the crab cakes. They're a menu staple (around $16, served with something like pomegranate salsa or poblano aioli depending on the season), but ours were mostly filler with a noticeably fishy taste. Not worth the spot on the table when there are so many stronger starters and entrées.781e4d Overall, we'd happily return to The Painted Pony. It's one of the better fine-dining options in St. George--great atmosphere, strong service, and mostly excellent food at reasonable prices for what you get. Just skip the crab cakes and you'll have a winner of a meal. 4/5 stars. Recommended for visitors and locals alike. Reservations advised, especially on weekends.

Formerly known as pork belly but now is the kitchen table…read more We decided to come back here a year later with extended family! We loved it the first time and wanted to share it with them. The reason for the 3 stars instead of 5 is fully on the service and not the food. We were there 1.5 hours with no wait to get seated, but once seated we waited 15 minutes before the waiter came to check on us. If they had been busy I would have understood but we were one of two tables in the restaurant at that time. Once the waitress came and took our order we waited forever to get our food. I think there was only one person back running the kitchen. The food was really good but considering how long it took to get our drinks and our food I give it 3 stars. The waiter was never around when we needed refills or had questions. I would like to return but I'm hesitant at the moment.

I came here because I wanted to try funeral potatoes and I was not disappointed at all! A lot of the food sounded really good and I had trouble picking. Luckily, my partner picked a dish and I picked a different dish and both were just great. Shout out to the family business (server was one of the owner's sons) and all the lovely cheesy unhealthy food !!

The server was wonderfully nice even after my daughter was super hangry, but she smiled at her anyways. A few things were slow to come out and forgotten, but They seemed to be super short staffed. It was an unexpected trip to St George Utah on Easter Sunday…read more Without any reservations at any restaurant, I have decided to stop by at Cracker Barrel. This place is located nearby the Convention Center in St George. Walked in and asked if it's a waiting time for a table. Hostess said "no, no waiting time" and I was seated immediately. Waitress came by, took my order. After a significant amount of time later, she appeared with my drink. I ordered the Strawberry Peach lemonade. Then, I was waiting for my dinner for a LONG time! It was pretty awkward, sitting by myself at the table. Luckily, I had my lemonade ... almost finished it and no refills ... I was thinking, how about if someone would be checking on me if I needed anything else to drink or maybe say something why my dinner was delayed more than 40 minutes ... well, nobody bothered. Hated to ask another waitress to come over and help me out to check on my food! Finally, my waitress showed up and asked me if I needed anything. Of course! I needed my dinner!!! Shortly after this conversation, she walked back to the kitchen and few minutes later I had my plate front of me. Sadly, the items were not fully heated up, at least not for my liking. My order was nothing extraordinary, it was the Easter Special: Ham and Turkey with mashed potatoes, green beans and stuffing. I ate most of it, except the stuffing. It was cold. I don't eat cold stuffing. Regardless, I paid for my meal and left. My waitress gave me a piece of pecan pie, sweetening my mood, before I left. Thank you! I just wanted a plate of food on Easter Sunday when I was on the road for work. That's all. It wasn't the best experience!
