The place was packed on a Saturday we stood in line looking at the menu and as we got closer they had specials of the day including desserts and donuts. Station 1 is the meats (they allow you to sample) . Arrived just before rush hour which worked out great for us. We ordered Brisket torta and the Double X Platter. Double platter came with ribs, brisket and we chose the Serrano cheddar sausage. For the sides we picked the Mac n cheese and esquite. Serrano cheddar sausage was my favorite. Brisket was flavorful and tender. The ribs had good flavor but I prefer spare ribs. I've been meaning to try this place for a while. Finally had the chance to come in on a Friday night. It wasn't as busy as I expected which was a plus. We got the double X platter which comes with brisket, ribs, sausage and a side. It also comes with tortillas and an optional pickled onions, jalapeños and pickles. Everything was great. The bark and smoke on each of the meat was perfect. They were flavorful and moist. The sauces were also fantastic, including a móle and green sauce which are Mexican inspired. This was our second visit to Pica Rica. I have previously raved about this placed, even boasting about their artful Brisket and fantastically cooked Ribs. The esquites were novel for Bar B Que and the Cole Slaw was creative. Unfortunately, the second visit was like a lackluster second date where the spark seem to have vanished. The esquites were over salted. The pulled pork lost all consistency and was like pork mush. The barbacoa lacked the depth and brightness of our last meal. The service was even spotty. Lunch at Pica Rica was easily the highlight of my weekend. I grew up in south Texas and our meal here hit the spot for what I look for in barbecue, with a bit of Tex Mex flair, too, like having barbacoa, breakfast tacos and chilaquiles (Sunday special, see below). We went in at opening on a Sunday, staff were friendly and the space is stylish with a fun playlist overhead. We ordered the breakfast taco, the Texas Trinity Platter (brisket, rib, sausage, side, tortilla, pickles) with a side of macaroni and added an extra side of beans. The brisket was most anticipated and delivered, with great texture and flavor that didn't need sauce. The breakfast burrito was fantastic, with an ample portion of potatoes, a thick slice of brisket and house salsa topped with perfectly fried egg, all stuffed into the house-made tallow tortilla - $12 and a large portion that I didn't want to share. I'm not really a ribs girlie but the one here was great, very tender - my husband compared it to pulled pork, in a good way. The house habanero cheddar sausage was delayed and came out last, leftovers went well with eggs the next morning. My daughter demolished the sides of beans and macaroni - the mac was nice and saucy without being overcooked and the beans had a great flavor to them. Our meal was around $50 and we ate every bit, left full and happy. They have covered patio seating out back, which was a nice touch. We walked off our meal going down to the park nearby. Appreciate that they're family friendly with a changing table it the bathroom. Looking forward to coming back again next time we pop into STG! I've made my way around most of the menu at Pica Rica BBQ, and the meats are definitely the highlight here. They're very flavorful and impressively prepared--I've only had BBQ at this level at state fairs or cook-off festivals, so that part truly stands out. Where things get tricky for me is the price point, which feels a bit steep, and the ordering process, which is confusing enough to take away from the experience. The counters and flow could really use some rethinking to make it smoother for customers. As for the sides, they're not quite on the same level as the meats. The mac and cheese has been dry every time I've tried it, and overall the sides could use some improvement. On a positive note, the breakfast tacos are unique and definitely worth trying. Overall: good bbq but overpriced and not worth the wait. I love some good BBQ and I had the highest of hopes truly, they are highly rated and I was underwhelmed unfortunately. Line was out the door when I got there, was in a rush as it was our last day in town so I quickly ordered a DoorDash with a promise time of 15 min later, skipped the line went to the front to let them know I was here. I waited nearly 30 min for my food and ordered 3 things. Could have gone through the line 2x at that point. The gal running the 1 register was kind and reassuring but to wait 30 min for 2 brisket sandwiches and 1 taco, I was annoyed. I get home with the food and the sandwiches have MAYBE 1/4 lbs of meat for $13. If you're a fan of BamBams in Orem or Joe's in PHX this was very much the same quality but overpriced with less impressive sauces. I'd like to think the full experience is exponentially better, but nonetheless think it's overpriced and overhyped when I've had just as good of BBQ up north and in the PHX valley. read more

Mac and cheese is good and the coleslaw isn't bad. It's got a cider kick to it. The Texas hot sausage was good. They don't serve slices of bread with the food. They have a Mexican twist with the barbecue, and that you can get tacos, salsa, and they even have a mole barbecue sauce, the brisket is my favorite, and it is moist, tender, and succulent. Counter service order style, you start by ordering your meat and they have the meats right behind the server and they carve it right in front of you. They have classic sides and non traditional. They also have tacos, tortas, and sandwiches. I got the charro beans and esquites, a play on Mexican street corn elote. I was just craving bbq and then they had signage advertising they're rated #7 in the country for bbq and was so excited to try everything. Unfortunately they didn't live up to the hype for me. Let's start with the good. The turkey was probably the best protein on the plate, tender, moist, flavorful. The brisket had the perfect bark, you could tell this was properly smoked, I thought it wasn't flavorful enough. The pulled pork was too salty though. I love sausage but I didn't love the featured one, it was a cheddar one and the cheese made it too salty. The sides were disappointing, the beans were too salty and the corn wasn't flavorful, you could taste the frozen corn and that was about it. You can order meat by the weight, it was a ton of food, I didn't come close to finishing it.
