The Beth is a cute restaurant with a smaller menu. I decided on the NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN SANDY. It wasn't bad! The mix of the seasoned chicken and the sauce paired well! The chicken was a bit dry but had a good crunch! Not overly fried which is very important to me! Overall a good sandwich! Service was a bit slow but as expected for a Sunday brunch! read more

When The Beth first opened this past summer we were pretty excited to have a new restaurant in town. We went in and loved what they had done with the space which was the old beerworks. The first couple times we went in the food was good! But the more we went we noticed it was not consistent. I especially LOVED their sushi rolls which they have taken off the menu for fall/winter. We went in last night for dinner and felt like the food had gone completely downhill! Actually we ordered the sushi appetizer which has salmon and tuna sushi and a tuna roll and a salmon roll. When the plate came out, The fish was paper thin on top of a HUGE rice roll!! And the tuna and salmon rolls weee so teeny with microscopic pieces of fish! We were hungry so we ate a lot more than we wanted to but for $25 we ended up leaving most of the dish and instead of ordering anything else we left! The last time we came in I ordered the butternut squash soup and duck tacos. The butternut squash soup was grainy and tasted like cardboard and the tacos were also tasteless and I didn't finish them either. The prices are very high for the quality of food you get. We left last night and hit dinner at Alma Nove next door. We won't be coming back to The Beth for a while. read more

I took my company to The Beth last night to celebrate the end of the summer. We had fantastic service and all my employees raved about their dinner-appetizers were excellent too. We had for dinner; Lobster rolls, Baked Haddock, and Steak Frites-all cooked superbly. The service was excellent and drinks were delicious too. I want to give this place 5 stars but the bread and butter appetizer was the only set back. We placed a reservation on the day-of for 6:45 with no issue. The ambiance is nautical, based on the old shipyard theme (hence the historical name). Now on to the food. Our Bread & Butter Board. The butter is served as decorative molds on a platter, but it's served cold and therefore impossible to cut into and even more impossible to spread, even on the warm bread. The loaf was pre-sliced, so we stuck each slab of butter in between the slices in an attempt to soften them up a bit (to no avail). The flavor of the butter was wonderful, just so difficult to fully enjoy. We ended up smearing the butter against the board by smushing the pieces of bread against it. Seemed to be the only mildly effective way to eat it. Please please please don't serve cold hard butter! It would be perfect whipped or brought to room temp. Our entrees, however, we're top notch. Our first entree was the Back River Burger. Second was the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandy. Naturally we cut them in half and shared both to try. The burger was great. Not so big you can't take a bite, doesn't fall apart, great flavor, an all around perfect burger (we added bacon which was top quality and caramelized onions). The Nashville hot chicken, however, made the burger seem mediocre, which is saying a lot given what is previously stated. Not too messy, bun grilled just right, sauce was perfectly spicy and tangy. Pickles weren't overwhelming or sliding out. Incredible flavor all around. The fries were perfectly cooked and salted. Our waitress Anastasia was so polite and friendly. Went with my boyfriend today to get some drinks and apps and got served by Kaleigh. She was amazing! Super nice, extremely attentive. I got a spicy margarita (she recommended) and it was hands down the BEST spicy marg I've had yet. For apps- we got a flatbread pizza and fish tacos; both were exquisite. Not to mention the ambiance is so open and welcoming- truly a gorgeous place right by the water--highly recommend coming here!! read more

I will caveat this review before I begin that I recognize that they've only been open for a couple of weeks and, as with any new restaurant, they need to work out some kinks. We loved the atmosphere and set up of the space. We opted to sit at the bar. It wasn't super busy when we got there (5:00ish on a Tuesday) but we waited a little longer than we should have for drinks. I ordered one of their specialty cocktails and my husband ordered a beer. The bartender was seemingly very inexperienced as she wandered around the bar grabbing various glasses and bottles to make our drinks. She had to come back and ask again 3 times what we ordered and then told my husband they didn't have the beer he ordered. They did... she was just unfamiliar with the beer name. In any case, we got our drinks and I took a sip of mine and it was essentially water. I sent it back and ordered a glass of wine. The wine pour was very small, probably 4 oz. which any normal restaurant pour is 5 or 6. The saving grace was the food. Hubs had the redfish which was very good, although the portion size was not great for the $29 cost. I ordered the tomato flatbread appetizer and a Caesar salad which were both amazing, although they too were overpriced. During our meal they started to get really busy... people sitting at the bar for 10-15 minutes without being greeted. One couple came in, sat for at least 15 minutes and were never spoken to so they left. The bartenders have this way of walking past you and not making eye contact so you can't really grab their attention. When we finished our meals we asked what they had for dessert and the bartender didn't really know so she went back to the kitchen and asked. The hubs ordered a piece of "key lime pie" which turned out to be key lime cheesecake and it was not dressed up at all except for a couple dots of whip cream from a can. When we got our bill it was $141, so with tip it was $171. It was definitely not worth the cost. We will probably give it another shot in several months once they have worked out the service issues and hopefully reduce their prices. Unfortunately, being in such an affluent area the restaurant feels entitled to charge the same prices as the fine dining establishment next door (which is also overpriced). This place has great potential but there are a few glaring issues that could set them up for failure. read more

Unfortunately, the very same issues that plagued the Beerworks seem to be impacting the Beth. We tried to eat here after the movies and were told that there would be a 45 min. wait. The reservation app indicated a 1.5-hr. wait. The place was not even half full, outdoor seating was basically all open. The greeting staff consisted of college students who seemed to be eager to send us away. I understand that staffing may be limited, but why then take over a certain size restaurant, only to leave it half occupied? It's a major turn-off for customers - we won't be stopping by again. Then we saw a mouse, and then another....there's nothing that kills the mood faster than a couple of rodents! The food is always great. The service, atmosphere is wonderful too. My only reason for not giving them 5 stars is the party room. Last night my friends and I went to have dinner. There was a party that rented out the front room. Which is fine. It's a wonderful space. However, they had a band. I'm sorry.... If you're going to have a live band you need a hall. The entire restaurant was ridiculously loud. We couldn't hear each other or the servers. I couldn't wait to get out of there. It's going to make me think twice before i go there on a weekend again. Great new addition in the Hingham Shipyard. A few kinks to work out but let me start with singing praise for our server Ronan and his trainee Grace. We were a party of 6 women. Got a booth and Ronan immediately came over as each person arrived to take drink orders. Very attentive and prompt service! Ordered appetizers and all were wonderful. With the outside seating arrangement, you can be placed in the sun aka 'the oven' with little to no breeze in a side corridor or you can choose a table in the larger area with umbrellas and a lovely cross breeze. Highly recommend the latter. We were originally seated in the oven but immediately asked to move to the shaded area with the breeze. Thanks for that! Ordered 3 items to sample, the CRISPY wings, dip trio and burrata. The dips and burrata were good but neither dish had enough bread/pita for dipping but overall no problems. The real issue was that the wings were not crispy at all. In fact 2 of the 6 were definitely not cooked to a fully done state. The 4 I could safely eat were rubbery. I should have sent them back immediately but I did not. However, anyone in the kitchen would know those wings were not crispy. If you don't want to serve them crispy, then please delete that word from the description. The cocktail menu was interesting but felt overpriced even with the water view. The Beth Kitchen and huge Bar in Hingham is so wonderful on cool evenings. The outdoor deck is right on the Hingham Shipyard, with easy access to the Boston with the Ferry one block away. The worse haddock I ever had! 28.00 and I got all vegetables and 3-4 oz of fish! There were 4 corners of fish of a bite on each. No really I never had a meal served like that ever and it was like the tail end pieces! The waitress was bored and never asked how anything was l I think because she knew. If you are looking for good food and an awesome atmosphere, The Beth is the place to go. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the Hingham Marina, is super spacious inside and has plenty of outdoor seating. My favorites on the menu are the fish tacos and sausage flatbread. Fish Tacos were terrible-menu said blackened haddock, which we were looking forward to, and they had the texture of pulled pork....so pulled, flaky fish.....terrible. This spot ticks all the boxes for a great lunch (haven't been there for dinner yet, as I live 2 1/2 hours "away"). Really great sandwiches and salads - killer clam chowder (in the good sense) and very attentive service. With walls of windowed doors that they can open up in season for a nice sea breeze and a nice bright atmosphere - lighting and hospitality wise - this is a wonderful take. I've dined there in summer weather and now in late winter. Just love the place, the staff and the menu. My companion absolutely raved about her clam chowder (part of a soup & salad combo) and I went into high orbit over the grilled chicken sandwich - graced with arugula, swiss cheese, roasted Portobello mushrooms & lemon-oregano aioli on parmesan focaccia. They accommodated swapping from french fried to coleslaw. the sandwich was out of this world! It was lunch and also dinner tonight. Wonderful experience. I wish I lived closer! read more

The place has a great location. The menu is the issue. My BF loved their Bolognese and so did a good friend. They removed it from the menu against the protests of the wait staff that said how popular it is, and their clients. They may think it had to come off for the summer, but it's still being served everywhere else so we go elsewhere. It's very thick and my BF loved it. The ONLY thing I order there is the Poke Bowl and recently they pulled back on all the ingredients and added some awful greens that were bitter and didn't go with the bowl. We sit at the bar and the ambiance there is nice. The waitresses/waiters there are also very good. I add water to my wine, so I like an inexpensive glass of wine. The least expensive Chardonnay is $11, too expensive for me. We get $8 and $9 glasses elsewhere and we don't go anywhere that wine prices are too high. They are right on the fringe of being taken off our list completely. There are TONS of great, inexpensive wines. I wish they would find one. My BF loves their burgers. That's his summer substitute. I love all kinds of food and find it amazing that I only like one thing on their menu. He got the fish and chips one time and it was overcooked. I like Haddock but can get it all over town for under $24. There's is $28. I like salmon and get it in several places for under their $32. There's is pan searched (yum) and served with Tomato sauce (really???). I prefer it with seasoning, teriyaki or sweet chili sauce (something sweet, not savory). There are about 2 other entrees and the rest of the mains are sandwiches. Just not inspiring. They have a great spot right on the waterfront and close to the ferry, albeit parking is in the lot near the theater....we end up about 800-1000 feet from the restaurant when we park. The theater clients have all the closer spots. It is my hope they will add one or two more entrees or have specials. They should leave bolongnese on all year, add a less expensive chardonnay and stop serving soy sauce with the poke bowl (again, really, is that the best you can do?). I ask for the sweet chili sauce as the dipping sauce. It's a little spicier than I like, but I great addition to the poke bowl. read more

I hesitated to leave a review because they just opened Monday and having helped open restaurants, I know how hard that is. The menu, both food and cocktails, looks excellent. We started with the honey bee and spicy Margarita both of which needed to be mixed since whoever made the drink didn't. The Margarita could have used more spice but the honey bee was excellent. My wife has the poke bowl which was excellent, really liked the mango. I had oysters and the watermelon salad. The oysters were good and the watermelon salad is a good concept the watermelon was just a little under ripe and the fried component didn't really work. Service was spotty as I would expect for people just learning but everyone had a great attitude. Overall we will definitely come back to try some more because the menu looked really good and we really enjoyed sitting on the patio. read more

The bartender was probably 19 years old and spent most of his time paying more attention to the female waitstaff then looking around to see all the people waiting on him to look up. I have really tried to like this place. This was my third visit. The atmosphere is nice, it's on the water and the service is good. The food however, leaves lot to be desired. We had some simple things that should be easy to get right. We started with calamari and had a lobster maki roll and spicy tuna roll. The calamari was chewy and overcooked for the most part and the rolls were just meh. Nothing about them tasted fresh, especially the lobster, which is not OK considering where it is. Wife and I had originally planned to go to a nice bday dinner at Alma Nove before deciding that the menu of this new restaurant right next door looked more appealing. So many things looked good on the menu, but we decided to go with a half dozen oysters, salmon/tuna poke nachos, and a tuna poke bowl with some drinks. We ate on the nice waterfront patio, which we discovered was right next to a community concert (kinda fun!). The server was sweet, but was still learning her job, so we had to help her out with some of the drink orders to get them right. We put in the appetizer and drink order, then put in the entree order when the drinks arrived, so it was kinda odd when all the food came out together. Oh well, we devoured it all. Price was fine for Hingham waterfront, ambience was great, food yummy, and service was pleasant. If I had to nitpick, I'd say that the seaweed on the entrees seemed limp and stringy - like maybe it was getting close to going bad. Also, it is a personal peeve of mine when water glasses never get refilled during an entire meal. In all, I'd say this review is really 4.5 stars, but hey - that rounds up to five, right? read more

Our recent trip to The Beth was a good one. The service was good, the food very good & the atmosphere friendly.

We were there Oct. 15 (party of 3 at the bar) and I tried the Spicy Tuna Roll under the "raw" section. It's something I never usually look at. I asked the waitress about it and she said it was really delicious, so I tried it. I do like tuna and have had sushi just a couple of times....good experiences. This one was AMAZING. I really loved it. The roll came in 6 pieces. I just can't explain how well each of the ingredients complimented the tuna and each other. The soy sauce was ok for dipping. I brought some home and used Sweet & Sour glaze/sauce and also enjoyed that. I was wishing I had Very Very Teriyaki to try as a dipping sauce. I could eat this all day. It's light, yet I was filled after 3 pieces, which was a surprise. It's not fishy, doesn't feel raw in your mouth and was just a great experience. I am going back this weekend for more. My BF had the Bolognese and he loved it. He said it was really thick with a lot of sauce (he asked for extra and they gave him plenty). I thought it was tasty but I like mine a little thinner....he was a happy camper, though, and ate the leftovers at home, which he doesn't always do. Our friend had a burger and enjoyed it....it was really filling and delicious. We also had a very attractive blondish barmaid who was very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our entire experience. I love that they named it after the Bethlehem Hingham Shipyard that made 127 ships during WWII on that site....great tribute to the men and women who made a difference during the war. So badly want to like this place because of how close it is to home, and the adorable location, but the service and the food is just terrible. Was here for the third time today for an event, and the food was undercooked and soggy. Last time I was there, we ordered the bread board, which we expected to be fun and creative, it was literally slices of bread on a plate with butter in silver condiment cups. Not only did it look awful, and was underwhelming, it tasted even worse. The drinks were OK. Not to mention the service that evening was so poor. Hopefully they get their act together, otherwise I can't foresee this place lasting too long if I continue like this. read more
