Good for oysters and draft beer. Their seating design is unfortunate. They put tables less than a foot apart, and when someone is next to you, sick, coughing and blowing their nose into their napkin, it feels gross to be so close. Also, not sure how well they bus their tables after people leave. My table had a sticky spot so I added some water to my napkin to wipe it and the napkin was pretty dirty. Got shrimp & grits and the shrimp were yummy, piping hot but the grits were room temp. Same thing kind of happened with the entree. We came in on a Wednesday night around 7:30 and were seated immediately. Staff was very courteous and attentive. We ordered a few different small plates to share and they were pleasing, but nothing earth-shattering. The standouts were the deviled eggs, buffalo cauliflower, and charcuterie board. The two salads I wouldn't order again just because they were fairly average. The menu online is out of date so be sure to check the physical menu when you come in. WOW what a fantastic restaurant! This was our first dinner at Trident Galley in Hingham. Jay the Manager welcomed us and made us feel welcome and comfortable immediately. There's also a relaxed vibe in the dining room. First impression: 5 out of 5! The meal? I had the Portuguese stew that consisted of a plethora of seafood and lots of it! Shrimp, scallops, muscles, clams and more in a delicious tomato broth that was just perfect. My guests ordered the Catch of the Day which was haddock. Once they started eating it, they stopped talking and enthusiastically ate every incredible morsel. Yes, it was THAT delicious ! High 5's for food, ambiance, service, price and presentation! Came back here twice in a row during my trip to the Hull Massachusetts area. It was one of the decent seafood places open in our area since we were isolated from many restaurants. And whoa the experience was a success. After a full day, we chose this location for a small bites dinner and a round of drinks. Everything was fresh to the very last bite. Our host was so gracious to let us know to wait a few minutes for the clock to hit 9pm for the $1 oyster happy hour. Such fresh oysters for a good deal. The same can be said about the tuna poké, lobster rangoons, and those flavorful mouth watering pork belly tacos. Even the Brussels sprouts packed a punch in flavor. I wasn't a fan of the drinks as I felt most of the cocktails were sour. Second visit decided to play it safe and just had a glass of rosé. Aside from the drinks, this place saved our trouble of going hungry in the Hull area for dinner. Thumbs up. read more

We arrived at Trident at 9pm. Door was locked although it closes at 10. My daughter called and asked if the place was open and the door was opened for her. Nina, the manager, rudely stated "kitchen is closed. What do you want?" She started to ask for a beet salad and was cut off with a "nope, raw bar only". Ate here yesterday and it was great. The atmosphere is very nice, our waitress was nice and checked on us. We had oysters (Wellfleet) and they were excellent ! This is of the places close to home that stays open late so we were hoping we would like it and we did. The $1 oysters after 9 were excellent. They also offer $1 oysters during happy hour 4-6 m-f. We had a couple of beers on draft that the bartender suggested (Vitamin Sea & Widowmaker) both were easy going down and would definitely have them again. The risotto that the scallops laid on were OK not awful but nothing out of this world. Truffle fries I would not order again. I am a fry-snob and like my fries crispy. A little pricey but the food was flavorful. All the sea food was a bit tough/over cooked but had amazing flavors. Shrimp and grits: polenta had amazing flavor and texture. Shrimp was a bit tough but excellent flavor Scallops: on the smaller side of sea scallops and a bit over done but the pepper and onion sauce has a delicious smokey kick of flavor. Grilled octopus: again, the sauce hits, absolutely delish, cauliflower and potatoes are great. Octopus itself has great flavors. I'm not familiar with octopus so I'm not sure what to think expect in terms of texture but this was a bit tough outter shell and a nice meaty inner. read more

Service: Took a few minutes for the hostess to appear. We were seated outside, a nice spot can a warm night. The waitstaff was helpful and fairly cheery. Ambience: Nothing special. Loud music blasting. Place is a bit shopworn and less than sparkling clean around the edges. Food: Ugh. Uninspired. My partner had a green salad with salmon. The greens were limp and seemed old and the salmon was overcooked and hard. I had the shimp and grits, the shrimp were scorched and overcooked and the grits mixture was nothing special. I don't know too much about Trident except that I absolutely love the dollar oyster deals they have. Monday through Thursday from 4pm to 6pm and then every night 9pm until closing is plenty of time to enjoy a dozen or more oysters at prices not usual for the East Coast. If you go to New Orleans, you can find amazing Gulf oysters just about anywhere at any time for a dollar a piece but here in New England where oysters are just as plentiful, that is not the case. You can spend upwards of $3.50 per oyster which in my mind is simply crazy. So this deal at Trident is a great draw. Depending on the day, you get a different type of oyster. My husband and I showed up a little after 4pm yesterday after a day "off" although made busy by a host of house and garden chores that we had to get done. What a wonderful respite it was to show up at Trident, find two seats at the bar and enjoy two dozen (yes, we are raw oyster gluttons) oysters. Yesterday's choice was Wellfleet oysters...they were delicious but not my all-time favorite oysters. Nonetheless we were happy, me with my glass of prosecco and husband with his craft beer...I think it was called Nite Lite. Of note, my husband and I are not fans of craft beers and that is the only kind Trident sells. It's hard to know what they taste like until you try them and then, you may dislike the one you've tried. There are so many! Impossible to know. The lovely bartender taking care of us gave my husband an nice-sized sample of one of the beers she thought he might like...alas, he didn't care for it. She suggested another one and he liked it well enough so got a glass of that. It would be great if Trident offered a couple of non-craft beers too. The rest of the menu is inviting with an array of seafood dishes and interesting appetizers. One day we will actually go for dinner. Sitting at the bar however with those dollar oysters and our drinks on a nice summer late afternoon was pretty heavenly. Nothing more needed. read more

Person on phone said there would be no wait when we would arrive in twenty minutes. I asked if I needed to give my name to get a table, she said no, that it would not be an issue getting a table when we arrived. Came here on a Wednesday night at 4pm. We were seated outside. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. We got the baked Stuff Lobster, duck Confit Poutine, and the seared scallops. The presentation on the lobster was not impressive. Look like some opened it up and toss it back on the fries. Lobster tasted fresh but the stuff was odd because of the pickled veggies mixed in it. The seated scallops s only came with 3 pieces and a salad for $16. It was good but still left you hungry . Didn't eat the duck Confit Poutine. My friend got that. Our meal for two was $70 . Definitely, did not feel satisfied with the portions. Service was so good. Probably won't be bad because of price and portion size. read more

Trident -- a very appropriate name for this restaurant since it felt like I was being skewered by the prices. Here's a few examples from our dinner tonight: $21 for a calamari appetizer (small dish) which was camouflaged with onion rings. If I were to guess the percentage of actual calamari to onion rings it would be 40% the sea creature and 50% onions and the balance of left over fried breading. $30 salmon entree looked like this: a piece of grilled salmon and some greens which concealed an entire plate of $3/box risotto. There was enough risotto to feed a small family -- with a small helping of salmon. This dish should have been $15 at most. $32 daily catch (scallops with potatoes). The chef was quite clever here as the roasted potatoes were identical to the roasted scallops. The dish looks good on arrival, but once you dig in you find that there are 4 small scallops camouflaged with the dozen roasted potatoes. In essence, you're paying $32 for a plate of potatoes. Needless to say, I will not be going back, unless I really want to flush my money down the toilet -- which BTW is where I'm sitting now since it went through me like a freight train. read more

Went to Trident last week for dinner with my partner. We were impressed with how well they were set up for COVID. They had plastic barriers in place and socially distanced tables. We started with the chefs board and were completely in awe with how large it was! We actually had to take some home since there was so much. We ordered the scallops and shrimp and grits as our main dishes. The scallops were absolutely delicious and came with a caramelized balsamic peppers. The shrimp and grits were amazing! They packed a secret punch of heat. The service was great. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Will definitely be heading back again! read more

Drinks: Spicy Marg 4/5 Corpse Reviver 4/5 Side Car 5/5 Whiskey Sour 4/5 Food: Olives 5/5 Oysters 5/5 shucked really well Rock shrimp ceviche 3/5 left a lot to be desired Fish tacos 4/5 tasty but the tortilla was too small Octopus 4/5 a bit on the salty side Lamb skewers 6/5 these were outstanding. Crispy exterior, juicy interior Braised short rib 2/5 pretty flavorless and overcooked Tuna poke 1/5 tasted like soy sauce and that's it. Wontons they came with were decent Whitefish croquetas 3/5 also a bit salty but they had good flavor All in with tip was about $180. We were full but really wished some of the plates were better. I got: * 2 Island Creek raw oysters from Duxbury * patatas bravas w/aioli * crispy fried haddock taco * pan seared sea scallops Everything was delicious. Service was quick as well. The only minus was that there was no air conditioning during a hot summer day(might be because the doors were open). It was more cooler outside than the inside. Worst service I've had since COVID started. went in for a drink before the movie at 3:30 pm and it was pretty empty (Maybe 5 people). Service felt focused on everyone except for me and my wife. Even when we were ready to get the check, the bartender pretended not to make eye contact as she was "ready to get out of there". This was my "go-to", but I'm ready to never revisit. One time is an anomaly, but if it happens again then I'm writing this place off. That will be a sad day considering the food and drinks are good. read more

Was driving through the area, searching for snacks, and my wife and I (happily) stumbled upon this place. They offered bar-ish seating, where they pushed high-tops against the bar, but spaced them out to adhere to social distancing guidelines. It was a pleasant situation and almost felt like a return to normalcy. The oysters were fresh, so that's always a good start. I thought the ceviche could used a bit more "oomph", maybe more acid. The best part of our "meal" i.e. snackathon, oddly enough, was the bone marrow. It was executed so flawlessly, you would've thought we were in a bistro in Paris. There was live music going on, which added to the atmosphere. The martini was perfect...to the point where I was tempted to order another. For food, I ordered the mushroom and manchego omelette. It was one of the best omelettes I've ever had...and perfectly accompanied by simple greens and rosemary fingerling potatoes. I was not going to say a word about my experience, so we locals can keep this place to ourselves, but I had to call it out...fantastic food, drinks, service and local music.
