The staff is accostumed to dealing with large groups and is very patient and knowledgeable about the menu. Service is always top notch, and the food is farm-to-table fresh and fun. I have to say, this place is an experience. It's definitely worth the visit if you're looking for a vegetarian friendly / delicious experience. While the dishes may look basic in ingredients, the combination and quality of the finished dish is amazing. Some dishes were better than the others (hello, beets), everything was surprisingly tasteful. Service was friendly and decorations were appropriate, very "green" and welcoming. Prices are definitely on the higher side as expected and portions are fairly small as with farm to table places. The main reason they didn't earn the fifth star was that the mocktails (and maybe cocktail) options were a canned which I did not realize. Also, the desserts, while the descriptions At a farm to table, I would have expected something made in house. looked very appealing/interesting, were nothing to write home about. While I understand the rotating menus I would also have expected something with meet besides the uncooked beef dish (there were two seafood options). All in all a good experience worth checking out. Ambiance was really nice here and service was good as well, but can't say it was great which is okay. The part that dropped off the extra star for me was the food ultimately. It was pretty good, but idk, maybe I just had higher expectations. The beef tartare just had too many greens in it. I see what they were trying to do, but the ball was dropped. They also had a steak special and for the price you pay for it, definitely not justified. Tho the portion wasn't the issue, the steak was incredibly chewy and wasn't good. The taste was flat. Love this place! The restaurant is super cute and covered with plants. I thought about asking for some pointers about keeping houseplants alive but decided instead to focus on the menu. They serve beer and wine, no cocktails, but I loved the glass of red I tried (enough to order a second glass). Upon reading the menu, I didn't feel super excited; however every single dish hit the mark. The beef tartare is a must-try along with the cast iron cornbread. I feel like with my meals in the boston area it is rare to be obsessed with every item we order, but here is an exception. The flavors were well balanced on every single dish and I loved them all. Farm to table vibes with great plant/natural decor! It's an intimate small plates restaurant that recommended 2 plates per person. We tried the Tuna Carpaccio (5/5 creative with beets too), Scallion Cheddar Cornbread (5/5 their signature), Kale Salad (4/5), King Oyster Mushrooms (5/5 great flavors), Bavette Steak (5/5), Carrots (5/5), Grilled Fish Collar (5/5 and also interesting flavors), and the Duck (4/5). For dessert, we tried the Miso Apple Cake (the table favorite), Chocolate Pot de Crème, and Dark Chocolate Sorbet. The one thing is that this place is a bit particular. They're quite strict on arrival time (part of our party was going to be 5 minutes late) and ordering (had to be all at once), and this came across a bit off putting. Came here for an anniversary dinner and it was a nice spot to celebrate, but didn't wow us. We had the beef tartare, scallion cornbread, charred cabbage, pork sausage, mushrooms, tuna collar special and the ice-cream sandwich. I was looking forward to the beef tartare but we didn't end up getting much beef, it was hiding under a bunch of greens (see pic) and we each got about 2 bites worth. My favorites were the scallion cornbread and the tuna collar special. The collar was cooked perfectly - so tender and a good sized portion, it was the most memorable part of the meal me. Sausage and mushrooms were okay. The cabbage had good flavor, but it was hard to cut with the very dull knife provided (this was true for all the knives - they were all strangely dull) and the dressing became a watery mess within a min of it being dropped at the table. The icecream sandwich also left a lot to be desired, the macaron shell just came off as sort of a stale texture, but the lemony flavor was nice. I did like the glass of sauv blanc with the meal - it was refreshing and had a lovely minerality to it. As for service, the server was attentive and prompt without being invasive, and the food runners staggered the plates nicely over the course of the meal. Ambiance is nice with an upscale but casual farmhouse meets mid century modern vibe- the vine decor is unique. Overall I enjoyed my time at the restaurant but it was not a stand out in terms of innovative farm to table offerings. read more

Cute place & very friendly service. Our fave bartender works here so we had to check it out. We had the tuna carpaccio (amazing), the beef tartare and the pork loin. Absolutely loved the tuna! We heard the couple next to us order the beef tartare without the peanuts and wondered why! The tartare is good but the taste was completely overpowered by the peanuts. Great tip for our next visit. The pork was plain and I wouldn't order it again. Gratuity is automatically included (20%) and there is a kitchen appreciation fee as well. Overall vibe was romantic and intimate in a small, cozy setting. The food is high quality and filling. The veggie dishes impress just as much as the main protein courses. They are sizable portions meant to be shared. Our favorites were the tuna carpaccio, cornbread, cavatelli, and cabbage. Who knew you could make a grilled cabbage so delicious?! The garlic and mushroom combo with the cavatelli was magical. We had great service and left happy and full. For food: Started with the oysters and ceviche, next we're the crispy beets and the cornbread, next was the warm cheese and Brussels sprouts, and lastly was the swordfish. For dessert: We had the rosemary and almond cake The menu is quite strange as it pairs things that typically would not be paired together. However, when you try it, you're left in awe and a "why have we not tried this before" experience. The plates are small but meant to share. Do not underestimate the size because it will fill you up! They have a rotating seasonal menu, but I don't doubt that everything they offer is good. The shaved smoked lamb shoulder with sesame naan was INCREDIBLE. So tender and flavorful, maybe the best lamb dish I've ever had. The cheddar scallion cornbread was also good but kinda heavy--would be better for sharing. I had a great evening at Field & Vine. My partner and I are vegan and vegetarian, respectively, and Field & Vine had a dedicated vegan/vegetarian menu for us. The vegan items we ordered were the salad with vegan Caesar dressing, a grilled cabbage dish, house pickles, grilled focaccia, and a sweet potato dish. The salad was the best vegan Caesar salad I have had, featuring toasted almonds and a crunchy crouton-like crumble, and I would return just for this. It is rare to see a cabbage-starring dish that is so well-executed. I also enjoyed the sweet potato dish. I don't love smoky flavors, so the grilled focaccia wasn't my favorite (though the bread itself was excellent), and the pickles were hit or miss, depending on the relevant spice mixtures (I enjoyed the cabbage and jalapeño ones). The staff were friendly, and the numerous plants inside the restaurant created a great atmosphere, fitting the restaurant's name. Honestly, I was on the fence about choosing to eat here as a vegan based on the website, but it was a wonderful experience. My partner also had the cornbread and gnocchi, the cornbread being excellent in particular. It would be great if they had one or two additional vegan items or did not use gelatin in their futsu squash dish, which looked amazing, but I would highly recommend Field & Vine overall. read more

While our server was very kind, I wouldn't say the service was overly exceptional and it would've been nice to get some engagement from behind the counter other than quickly dropping our plates - I say this given that there's a 20% gratuity + 3% kitchen fee automatically included. Happy to support the staff, but I wish the service had really exceeded expectations. All the food was tasty and interesting but a bit overpriced for shared plate portions. We ordered 5 plates (and 2 desserts) for two people as recommended - tuna carpaccio, beef tartare, gem lettuce, risotto, and pork loin. The pork was probably the favorite as it was cooked perfectly but the risotto was a little watery and al dente for our taste, albeit flavorful. My partner and I dined here two years ago and were absolutely blown away -- it was one of the most memorable meals we've had, and we've talked about it ever since. We live out of state, so when we found ourselves back in town, returning was something we were genuinely excited about. Unfortunately, our experience last night didn't live up to what we remembered. We were disappointed to find that the quality of the food seemed to have declined significantly. The beef tartare was overwhelmed by aioli with very little actual meat, the clams in curry were extremely salty with almost no broth, the asparagus lacked depth and flavor. I could go on and on We spent $175 and left not only hungry but truly disappointed, especially considering how exceptional our first visit had been. I don't often leave negative feedback, but the contrast between our two experiences was stark enough that I felt compelled to share. Cute little area located in Somerville with the entrance to Field & Vine tucked away. Not a huge dining area inside, but it's decorated beautifully. We shared five items and every single one was delicious. Shared plate style so they brought out each dish as they were ready from the kitchen, and every dish they brought out was better than the one prior. What we ordered: - half a dozen oysters - striped bass ceviche - cheddar scallion cornbread - cherry tomatoes - grilled swordfish It's going to seem weird, but the cherry tomatoes might have been the best thing, so good! I have had F&V on my "local bucket list" for years. Every time I am over in Union at Backbar or Warehouse XII, I see this place from the outside and it looks so cool through the windows. The waitstaff are pretty chill and don't hover; they seem to know the menu well. I just could not really get into the food here... I really couldn't. Here is what we ate: *tuna crudo - was fine, nothing amazing, very small portions *beef tartare - I dont eat beef, but my husband ordered this and the chips were so excellent. Wish I could have just gotten those. *cheddar cornbread - this was literally cheese bread. Salty, too cheddar-y, and hardly any cornbread flavor. I did not enjoy it personally. *brussels sprouts salad - this was my fave dish. Flavorful, great texture... yummy. I'd get this again. *grilled pork - I forget what the accoutrement was that accompanied this dish, but again, it was fine. The pork was cooked nicely and tasted good but it didn't stand out/blow my mind. He even marked up the menu for me as to what I can and cannot eat as I have a shellfish allergy. We LOVED the black bass crudo. SO SO SO good it was everyone's favorite thing that we had ordered. Cornbread: this was really good and paired so well with the miso butter they give you to put on the bread! Beef tartare: this was good but nothing super impressive, not sure if we would order again. Duck: I'm not a huge duck fan, and wasn't as popular within our table but wasn't bad, a little dry. I just personally do not like duck. Dessert: lavender chocolate pudding? I don't remember the exact name for the dessert but we were not a huge fan, it was kind of salty and we did not finish. Wine: We tried their Orange wine and we would not recommend. Nothing special kind of bland and not that pleasant. Red wines: we tried two glasses of the red wine they had by glass and they were both delicious! Decent tapas style restaurant in Somerville. I loved the cute interior design of this place. The restaurant had a lot of cute plants and natural lighting through the window. Some of the highlights from our dinner included peaches and beets (so refreshing), cornbread (seriously amazing), and shishito peppers.
