We stopped in on Saturday around 5p and were seated immediately. Having never experienced Seabutter (it's listed as Seabutter on Google but it's the same place), we were excited! They have a few options for us gfdf folks. They seem to know the menu well enough to make specific suggestions. I went with the Luxe 3 roll with HYE, negi and truffle salmon. Wow-- each one was delicious and didn't even need soy sauce (they do have a gf shoyu). I was so impressed, I ordered an additional blue crab roll. You have to eat them fast- every second counts as the nori softens. The chefs were really friendly as were the staff. Everyone will probably compare this to Kazunori, which I haven't been to yet but my friend said it's comparable. Give it a try! I'll definitely be back. read more

My friend and I came here for a lunch on a weekday. We walked in and we were able to be seated immediately. I love the ambience and the bar seating. It's all very chic. The menu isn't too expensive, which is nice so you're not paralyzed by indecision. You can either go for à la carte or go for hand rolls sets. My friend went for the Taste of the Bar set and I did the four hand roll set. We shared a blue crab don. I say, if you're gonna come here, you should just go all out and do the taste of the bar set. I did the four hand roll set and it came with pretty standard handrolls that you can kind of get anywhere. (if you like predictability then this is a great set.) however if you want to try what The Bar is better known for, then the Taste of the Bar or the Lux set gives you a good idea of their special handrolls. The salmon truffle isn't too truffle-y and the HYE is indeed good. I'd recommend going for these instead of standard handrolls since you can literally get those anywhere. The blue crab don was good but nothing so spectacular that I'd have to go out my way to get it again. Good to have once and it was nice to go back to between handrolls for the avocado bits. Stopped by The Bar - Hand Rolls by Seabutter on Americana for a solo meal today and left seriously impressed. From the moment I walked in, I was promptly and genuinely greeted by pretty much everyone working there; it set a welcoming tone right away. Even better, there was virtually no wait. I walked in and within minutes was already seated. The energy of the place is fast-paced, but it never feels rushed. Everything flows smoothly, and you can tell the team is locked in while still making sure guests feel relaxed and taken care of. I went with a 5-roll order and an individual roll, and every piece hit the spot. The salmon roll came out first and was the perfect start - fresh, buttery, and incredibly satisfying. The tuna followed and delivered that clean, rich flavor you want. Third was the amberjack, which had a really nice balance and depth. The scallop roll (fourth) was a standout: sweet, delicate, and expertly done. Fifth was the blue crab, fresh and full of flavor with great texture. I finished with wagyu, which was rich, indulgent, and the perfect closing note. Marcelle was exceptional. Even with the restaurant moving at full speed, his attention to detail never dropped. I've been to the The Bar by Seabutter in Americana twice and it's been okay. I ordered the toro and uni don and the toro was good and fresh but the uni was a bit bitter. The bowl was also very tiny. I also got the spicy scallop roll but wasn't impressed. It was smothered in mayo even though the menu does not indicate that the spicy scallop has mayo- only the other 2 scallop rolls say they use mayo. read more

Tried this on a whim this week and was really impressed by quality of fish and the service. I ordered 4 hand rolls à la carte. My faves were the HYE and salmon truffle! A couple of weeks ago, my friend and I went to The Bar - Handrolls by Seabutter for a weekday lunch. We arrived around 12:30pm on Monday and it wasn't busy, so we were seated promptly. The ambiance of the restaurant is upscale, yet casual. The service was fine; the chef prepared the handrolls at a good pace and we didn't feel rushed. Also, there's bar-top seating with the chefs behind the counter, and there's only 1 gender-neutral restroom in the restaurant. I ordered the 5-Handroll ($27) set menu. My fave rolls were salmon (fresh & buttery) and amberjack (surprise citrus zing). My least fave roll was spicy tuna because the spiciness was overwhelming compared to others I've had before. I paired this set with the Sunomono Salad ($5), which had crisp and refreshing cucumbers. I'm unsure if I'd return to The Bar soon because there are a lot of great handroll bars with similar prices in the surrounding areas. read more

Walked in on a Friday night, but it wasn't really worth the hype or the price. I tried the Taste of Bar and added Salmon Ikura, Toro Uni, USC, and Uni-Scallop. The timing of when the rolls came out felt inconsistent. The seaweed got soggy pretty quickly and didn't have much flavor. The rice tasted more like regular steamed rice rather than sushi rice. The Salmon Ikura was especially disappointing--it only had about five pieces of ikura. On a positive note, the fish itself was pretty fresh and tasty. Happened to be in the area and SO glad that I stopped in. Restaurant gets very busy in peak hours and can potentially have hour long waits. I went around 3pm on a weekday and had incredibly friendly service and great conversations with the staff. Food was delicious and very good value. I became a fan of the main Seabutter restaurant when they opened nearby. I had never had pressed sushi which was delicious. And the service was always top notch. So when I heard they were opening a hand roll bar, I couldn't wait to try them out. I've been here 3 times now and they do not disappoint. That said, you must love hand rolls because that's the star here. I usually order the 5-piece or 6-piece set menu. And if I'm still hungry, it's easy to add an additional roll. The rolls are made to order so you need to eat them immediately or the seaweed will get moist and chewy. You don't want that if you can help it. That's never a problem when I'm by myself, but it can be an issue when dining with others because your rolls will come out one by one, meaning no one gets to eat together. You eat as each roll is presented. The service here is as good, if not better, than their nearby restaurant. My only complaint, thus the 4 stars, is when you are here by yourself, it's easy to down each roll as they are made. If you are with a friend, one of you will be eating a roll while the other watches and waits for theirs. If only the chefs could tag team and make two at the same time to avoid this issue. The slight sweetness on the pickled cucumbers were really tasty. The salmon handroll was real good. Decent sized chunks of salmon, rice and nori. Great bites. Spicy tuna handroll had a nice kick. We enjoyed that. Amberjack handroll was good but the flavor on it is slightly strong for me. Still good. The scallop handroll was perfection. Delicious, creamy scallop pieces just went so perfect with the rice & nori. So good... The blue crab hand roll was delicious. Always save the usual best for last. Creamy crab... Just so tasty. I also added a salmon truffle ($8.50) which comes with seared scallop which is served in an open-faced handroll style, topped with artichoke truffle, sea salt & citrus drizzy. It was delicious. The combination of flavors made for really nice bites. It was a nice ending to my meal... My cousin added a H.Y.E. handroll ($9) which comes with minced yellowtail, sesame oil, minced truffle, wasabi & sea salt. He's had it before, really liked it and wanted it again. Like most handroll places, they sat us at the bar near other customers. We got the 5 rolls set for our visit. For our rolls, I appreciate SO much how they were chunks, and not all mushed into a paste. They also didn't use an overabundance of rice, so the flavors were very balanced for me. What I really appreciate about this place is they are very quick with the rolls. All the handroll places I go to make us wait at least 5 minutes in between each roll, so it drags out the experience and time since I have a habit of eating super quickly. Here, they prepped the next roll immediately as soon as they notice we're done. Highly appreciate this because it helps saves me time and the awkwardness of waiting around. I love efficiency and this place was great. While I'm pretty sure you can take your time and they aren't rushing you, I just happen to be a fast eater and a "time is money" kind of person so their service was impeccable for me. Really glad I got to try this new handroll spot in Glendale! There are several different set menus you can choose from, or you can order any of the hand rolls ala carte as well which is convenient. The rolls are made to order, so they come to you one piece at a time, same as other places such as KazuNori. I would say some of their more decadent rolls (with truffle etc) are a bit on the heavier side. Still tasty, but good to have a variety of rolls - some lighter, and some a bit more decadent. This is a fantastic addition to the Americana Mall, super happy to see more Asian spots opening up to eat at when I'm shopping and need a bite to eat! Service is good but may be a tiny bit slow. Picked a la carte dishes for dinner: the sunomono (cucumber salad), blue crab roll, seared scallop roll, and the prawn roll. I loved most of it, but the prawn roll felt like it had more cucumber than prawns though. The proportion of fish to rice in the blue crab and scallop roll was pretty perfect. O Rion I'm so sorry if I spelled it wrong but he was super super nice and the chef just understood the assignment and he just delivered. The food today was made exactly how I asked for not too heavy on the rice and no wasabi in anything although they don't add or make any changes they still did everything to the best of there ability to make the customer service perfect. Honestly I'm super happy I came back, there was not a single thing I had today that I didn't like it was just amazing. This sushi bar is located inside the Americana and we were able to get in without a wait on a Saturday night. The host and chef were super nice and was able to answer any of our questions as this was our first time here. By first impression, the inside was clean and a great ambiance for a date night. What surprised us the most was how reasonable the prices were! I have been to other hand roll bar places and end up spending $80 and leaving hungry. We went here with reservations on a Saturday night. It wasn't that busy so we could have walked in too . I was surprised how come it wasn't that busy at that time. Anyway, we were seated right away. The experience is very unique. I personally enjoy sitting at a sushi bar and I loved the open and round sushi bar design. It was classy and modern. The prices here may seem reasonable, but beware that the sizes are not that big so you end up having to keep ordering until you finally get full. That is not easily achieved lol so you end up spending a lot of money not realizing it. We ordered the deluxe hand-roll package and then some bowls and more rolls. we loved everything . The only complaint I have was the service . One of the guys was treating us like we owed him something. At the end, they brought the check without us asking, and then when we put our cards clearly on the card board, waiting to pay, another guy comes and gives us another check. I told him that the cards were already placed on the other bill and it was ready to be paid. He looked at us as if it was our mistake , and without apologizing, began trying to process the payments. Then the other guy came to help him because supposedly he was "new". This guy said to us : "common guys he is new! Cut us some slack" as if we complained or anything. All we said was " the cards are already placed there for payment" . Then he made this comment which felt very unprofessional and uncomfortable. He said : " man! You guys had so much to eat!" I swear I'm not lying but I have never heard such offense from a server in my life. We go to a lot of restaurants, and we order plenty of food. Shouldn't they be happy that we ordered a lot; instead of a little bit !? Anyway , I will go back here again because I liked their food . But these guys need some serious training and to first of all learn some manners, and to realize that 2 ladies sitting there are not his dudes, for him to make those kind of comments.
