Love this small sushi place in Americana. They have a small menu, but everything is fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place for people who want a light and small meal. Forgot to take more pics because I was busy eating...

Wow, just wow! Such a classy experience. The sushi hand rolls are absolutely delicious, and all you need is a little sake on the side to complete the meal. I'm so happy I had the chance to try this spot. It's a perfect place to stop if you're shopping at the Americana or simply looking for a unique sushi experience.

It was my first time here, and it's a great spot for a quick and casual bite. The atmosphere is nice, and all the servers were very friendly. The hand rolls were delicious, but the only downside was that the seaweed got soggy pretty quickly. Other than that, it's definitely a solid hand roll spot I'd come back to.

Walked in on a Saturday night with no wait, which already felt like a win. The interior is sleek and modern, and the curved handroll bar makes the space feel intimate but still lively. It ended up being a great date night spot before heading to a movie. We ordered the 6-handroll set. The blue crab was the standout and my favorite, followed by the spicy tuna and scallop, which were both excellent. Salmon and amberjack were solid, but the negi toro I wasn't a fan of. If you're a texture person, this one might not be for you. Overall, a really enjoyable experience. Service was good, pacing between handrolls was nice, and pricing felt fair for the Americana. I'd come back to try a few other rolls.

Seabutter spoon. Amazing!! Great recommendation by chef Marcelle.

Quality is top tier. Everything was super fresh and delicious. The ambiance is beautiful. Chef Marcelle is so hospitable and made the evening special.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend and I went to The Bar - Handrolls by Seabutter for a weekday lunch. We arrived around 12:30pm on Monday and it wasn't busy, so we were seated promptly. The ambiance of the restaurant is upscale, yet casual. The service was fine; the chef prepared the handrolls at a good pace and we didn't feel rushed. Also, there's bar-top seating with the chefs behind the counter, and there's only 1 gender-neutral restroom in the restaurant. I ordered the 5-Handroll ($27) set menu. My fave rolls were salmon (fresh & buttery) and amberjack (surprise citrus zing). My least fave roll was spicy tuna because the spiciness was overwhelming compared to others I've had before. I paired this set with the Sunomono Salad ($5), which had crisp and refreshing cucumbers. I'm unsure if I'd return to The Bar soon because there are a lot of great handroll bars with similar prices in the surrounding areas.

Walked in on a Friday night, but it wasn't really worth the hype or the price. I tried the Taste of Bar and added Salmon Ikura, Toro Uni, USC, and Uni-Scallop. The timing of when the rolls came out felt inconsistent. The seaweed got soggy pretty quickly and didn't have much flavor. The rice tasted more like regular steamed rice rather than sushi rice. The Salmon Ikura was especially disappointing--it only had about five pieces of ikura. On a positive note, the fish itself was pretty fresh and tasty. Service was just okay; it was hard to get the host's attention and we had to flag down servers. Once we did get a server's attention, though, they were friendly.

Happened to be in the area and SO glad that I stopped in. Restaurant gets very busy in peak hours and can potentially have hour long waits. I went around 3pm on a weekday and had incredibly friendly service and great conversations with the staff. Food was delicious and very good value. I'm not in LA often but very glad to have experienced.

This place was just okay. Its not worth the amount of food you are getting and it doesn't taste any different that what you could probably make at home having your own sushi night. The rolls weren't filled all the way either. The service was also just okay but they only had one chef working on like the entire side of people and I was seated at the very end so it took forever for my food to get to me

I became a fan of the main Seabutter restaurant when they opened nearby. I had never had pressed sushi which was delicious. And the service was always top notch. So when I heard they were opening a hand roll bar, I couldn't wait to try them out. I've been here 3 times now and they do not disappoint. That said, you must love hand rolls because that's the star here. I usually order the 5-piece or 6-piece set menu. And if I'm still hungry, it's easy to add an additional roll. The rolls are made to order so you need to eat them immediately or the seaweed will get moist and chewy. You don't want that if you can help it. That's never a problem when I'm by myself, but it can be an issue when dining with others because your rolls will come out one by one, meaning no one gets to eat together. You eat as each roll is presented. The service here is as good, if not better, than their nearby restaurant. My only complaint, thus the 4 stars, is when you are here by yourself, it's easy to down each roll as they are made. If you are with a friend, one of you will be eating a roll while the other watches and waits for theirs. If only the chefs could tag team and make two at the same time to avoid this issue. But other than that, I have no complaints.

Honestly I had such a blast at this hand roll bar by Sea Butter! I loved the picturesque U-shaped bar where I could see the chefs prepare each roll. The staff were super friendly and walked me through the most popular and personal favorites. I ordered the 5-set hand roll for a fun mix of salmon, spicy tuna, amberjack, blue crab, and scallop. My favorites were the amberjack and scallop. I loved how each were prepared so fresh and delicately. The chef was fun to talk with as well! His favorite was the amberjack roll! It had a nice chewiness texture to it. The HYE specialty roll was also intriguing and I added it on. The pinch of minced truffle and sesame oil made all the difference on the yellowtail belly. It was also my first time having lava sea salt- how fun!! I'll definitely be back!

My ultimate favorite hand roll bar thus far. I took the fam here for their first time and they are still dreaming of how fresh the fish was, the amazing service, and the simple aesthetic of this place. They opened at 12 and we were one of the first ones to enter. Try to get anything that they torch - my fave is the scallop. Yum! Will be back again soon, for sure!

The host greeted us with a smile and everyone here seemed super nice as we entered as well. Already off the bat, service was a big green flag for me. Like most handroll places, they sat us at the bar near other customers. We got the 5 rolls set for our visit. For our rolls, I appreciate SO much how they were chunks, and not all mushed into a paste. They also didn't use an overabundance of rice, so the flavors were very balanced for me. What I really appreciate about this place is they are very quick with the rolls. All the handroll places I go to make us wait at least 5 minutes in between each roll, so it drags out the experience and time since I have a habit of eating super quickly. Here, they prepped the next roll immediately as soon as they notice we're done. Highly appreciate this because it helps saves me time and the awkwardness of waiting around. I love efficiency and this place was great. While I'm pretty sure you can take your time and they aren't rushing you, I just happen to be a fast eater and a "time is money" kind of person so their service was impeccable for me. Highly recommend coming here.

The sauces of the salmon and yellowtail dishes hit well. The only dish I probably wouldn't do again is the sweet potato uni. It sounded good in theory since I like both ingredients, but together the texture was just a little too mushy. Was a little disappointed in the hand rolls. I think it's partly because they didn't have salmon belly or yellowtail belly available, which comes with the garnish / sauce that I was looking forward to trying. The rolls I ended up with were ok but didn't really have much flavor to them. The ratio of fish to rice wasn't great either. I do appreciate separating the nori though - keeps it crisp. The desserts were legit. I especially liked the monaka, which was like a lemon tart. The basque cheesecake was pretty darn good as well. As for the sake - def a difference between the junmai and ginjo - the ginjo is a lot more smooth. Overall - a bit disappointed in the hand rolls, but the cold dishes and dessert were excellent. Would come back for those.

The server who was seating folks sat the group ahead of us and did not even acknowledge us. We ended up waiting 10+ minutes for the server to finally sit us. The many servers were attentive but I think it was to their detrimental as the meal progressed. While we appreciated the constant water filling, we felt very watched when they would take our plates as soon as the last sushi piece was taken off. There were multiple times when I saw servers glance at our table for the plates and it made us feel rushed. Where I was sitting, I could see the servers pacing back and forth and constantly glancing at our table to see if they could clean anything up. I wish they were a tad slower on this part so we could have more uninterrupted time to connect and eat. I was pretty excited to try the food but was left feeling unsatisfied. We got the philadelphia, yuzu drop, alaska samurai, and negihama (yellowtail) handroll. The rice was overcooked and mushy on the Philadelphia roll. I'm not sure why but the fish didn't wow me or taste super flavorful when eaten as a roll. I purposely ate the ingredients separately to get an isolated taste of the fish. The fish quality was okay - I was expecting more. Their salmon was lackluster but the tuna and yellowtail were decent. The ambiance is more modern and folks who seem to go here fit more hipster vibes. Not sure if we would return.

Ambiance is super cute, love the little flags over the sushi/shabu bar and the art on the walls adds to the Japanese restaurant feel. The aroma when you walk in is mouthwatering (I was really hungry) but it doesn't smell fishy like some sushi places can. Staff is unbelievably great, super friendly and helpful if you have any questions about the menu or want recommendations. Don't be afraid to ask what the MP is on omakase, they totally work with what you're looking to spend or based on how many pieces of sushi you want to eat. Now for the real reason to visit Osawa: the food is absolutely amazing!!! Fresh, tasty, perfectly portioned. From the shishito peppers appetizer to the sushi, sashimi, hand rolls, and shabu; I cannot recommend this place enough! They have plenty of sake options to pair with your meal as well as beer or specialty cocktails if that's your preference. They offer to explain your order when it arrives which is great for those newer to sushi or just trying something different. Seriously, some of those fish practically melt in your mouth. I personally haven't ordered any rolls yet but they absolutely look delicious. If you're looking for a good sushi date spot, this. is. it. After more than a year away, I decided to give Osawa another try on May 8, 2026. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed why I had stopped coming. Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.

I didn't expect it to be though because other than ordering at a sit down place, this request hasn't ever been fulfilled. For me, this wasn't an issue as the meat wasn't overcooked and everything tasted perfect. The bonus here is that the plate comes with fried rice and you don't have to pay more for that option. Your plate also comes with hibachi style veggies (carrots, broccoli, zucchini and onions) and not frozen "steamed" veggies like some other places. You get six shrimp and a decent amount of beef in my opinion. No matter how much fried rice you give me, I will always say it can come with more because I absolutely carbs. Now for the sauces - listen up, because for me, the sauces are integral to the hibachi experience. You get 4 sauces per order and they will sell you additional ones but that's not an option on a delivery platform (so you'll have to call and work that out with the restaurant). Your options are yum yum (pink sauce), diablo (spicy pink sauce), ginger and garlic butter. The ginger was a tad too salty for me but the rest of the sauces passed the vibe test. Don't be scared off by the name "diablo" - it has a slight kick but you won't be breathing . Shout out to Juan who hooked up this first time girlie with extra sauces so she could try them all and indulge in saucing up her meal. Please note the sauce containers are pretty small. Ya'll think you can start sizing up your sauces? I had a promo code so I needed to order a certain minimum. I refused to pay for soda when I have tons here so I went with a side of veggies. The platform said steamed veggies so when I called Juan, I made sure they were hibachi style veggies and not steamed (they were hibachi style). One recommendation would be to offer a side of fried rice. I'd much have preferred that over the veggies. I hope this is an option next time I order. My food arrived warm and I devoured it. I will no longer shed tears over the loss of my other hibachi spot as I've found one I'm just as happy with. As provided above, not only was my food a yummy in my tummy experience, the customer service offered by Juan was also superb. Support this joint and don't you guys leave the Eagle Rock area or I'll once again lose my hibachi go to.

They keep your water filled, and they're quick to refill wasabi and ginger without you even having to ask. It's bar seating only, which can be a little tricky for a shorty like me to hop up and down from, but the food and service make it worth it. There are no reservations, just walk‑in, but the service is fast and I've never had to wait. Plus, they offer free parking validation for 2 hours, which is a huge bonus. Always reliable, always delicious -- Kazunori never disappoints!

I still wanted to leave a wonderful review based on the experience I had here. When arriving on a Saturday morning, there was a small wait - but it's completely understandable why. I ordered the five piece hand roll. Each hand roll was absolutely delicious and fresh. My favorite would have to be the yellowtail, lobster, & scallop. It's honestly the taste of perfection. My experience was made even more positive with service from Kyle and Eddie. They both were extremely friendly and always made sure that I was tended to. Their upbeat personality only added more my dining experience here. I will definitely be back soon.

Great customer service by the staff, caring, and fast service. Very cozy ambiance, they have both inside and outside seating. For a smaller restaurant like this, it has a good amount of table/seats. Not to mention that their sushi rolls were spot on as well. Would come back several times.

I understand they are busy, but there is no reason to swing the door at my face when I simply asked where I can put my name down on the waiting list. No answer, just rolled eyes and door in face. We really should've left because from that moment, it definitely felt like it was a mission for the two servers to make it a miserable experience for my family. I later found a small post holding up a chromebook outside of the restaurant with a paper with very small print explaining waitlist rules. It would be a lot better if the restaurant made a larger print sign that just says, "Sign In Here," and then have your small print letter to the customers about the rules. We put our name down at 12:30pm, it gave an estimated seat time of ~1pm. But because of the terrible service and mismanagement of the waiting list, we didn't get seated until 1:30pm. They seated 4 parties of 2-3 before our party of 4 when the open tables were side by side. On top of that, after we got seated, they still gave water and took the other tables orders that were seated after us before they came to us. Food took another 20 minutes to come out. I asked for the bill three times, but it didn't come until the other tables that were seated after us left and it was just empty tables next to us. In terms of the food, it was fine and the tempura was cooked well but I do not need to eat their tempura to be treated this poorly.
