Second time coming here. First time I ordered at the bar, this time had a waiter named Mark who was very sweet and professional. He was very helpful with the menu, although I'm a sushi fan so I already knew what I wanted. They were sadly out of the special yellowtail tonight but their toro and salmon nigiri's were great! We tried their soy sauce soup and it was ok. Not my favorite, I prefer miso. But that's just my flavor preference. It had mushrooms and was still good. Blue crab hand roll was also amazing. Spicy tuna Crispy rice here is phenomenal! Mind you they do get spicy. They have like five different kinds of crispy rice on the menu. I wanted to try the salmon crispy rice. Drinks - Sake here is good and with friends we share a bottle or two... I'm so happy I found this place in Glendale. Ambience is pretty lively. I've never seen it empty. The menus doesn't have any descriptions for any of the hand rolls. Salmon hand roll comes with asparagus that isn't listed. Scallop hand roll comes with shiso leaf that isn't listed. Etc... Prices are also higher than what it should be. They include an 18% service fee that isn't disclosed on the menu. But worse, they include that in your bill, pre-tax, so now you're paying tax on a forced tip. Shady AF. EDIT: business owner has responded, but has not addressed that they have been charging tax on forced gratuity (I think that might be illegal? But I'm not a lawyer, so maybe it is legal to charge tax on tips in California...). Nor that their menu lacks descriptions for the food items. read more

Seaweed Handroll bar serves handrolls, but they also offer appetizers that you'd find at izakaya, they serve sashimi and nigiri and select yakitori items. We wanted to get a little bit of everything. To start our meal, we went with chicken karaage and their rice cake sampler. The rice cake sampler was basically crispy rice with varied minced tuna/lobster/shrimp and the karaage was very nicely fried chicken thigh served with a dynamite sauce and a lemon wedge. I got an order of red snapper nigiri and Hokkaido scallop nigiri and these were delicious; however, it was quite heavy on the yuzu and soy sauce. Their handrolls are what they do best here. The best handroll we had was their seared scallop handroll, which came with Hokkaido scallop, shiso leaf, rice, and yuzu. Equally memorable was their Seaweed special, which came with ikura, minced negitoro, shiso leaf, and uni. In both of these handrolls, what was impressive was how much protein they stuffed into the roll. They put so much into a handroll, it was almost like a mini sushi burrito. We came here from Long Beach; however, if we make the drive back to Glendale to Seaweed Handroll bar, we will definitely order more of their handrolls as they have great flavor balance, fair pricing, and they're very filling. read more

Had the best date night in a while, all while enjoying some of the most delicious and fresh fish around! The restaurant feels incredibly intimate, with a U-shaped bar encircling the sushi chefs in the middle. Each seat is pre-set with a plate, chopsticks, and a moist towelette. We began with an order of the spicy tuna crispy rice and glazed shrimp. Both were excellent, and the glazed shrimp had an Umami rather than sweet flavor like I initially anticipated. We then enjoyed a serving of the black cod skewer and a Wagyu skewer. The only challenge with eating these was that they were so tender they kept falling off the skewer. 10 out of 10 for both! Every single piece of Nigiri and each hand roll was better than the next. I don't think I could choose a favorite, but if I have to, I thoroughly enjoyed the Toro Nigiri and the yellowtail handroll for their simplicity that let the quality of the fish shine. The service was great, with food, coming out at inappropriate pace and staff checking on you at an appropriate pace as well. Although it was a little pricier than other sushi spots around town, you definitely got what you paid for! read more

Just stopped in for a light bite since neither of us were starving. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were relatively attentive (I did have to ask for my sake twice). I love hand rolls in general because you don't have to commit to an entire cut roll and can try a few things. The prices were reasonable and the food was fresh. I would like to try a few other things in the future, but I tried the yellowtail thinking it would be the same as a favorite restaurant of mine in Manhattan, but it was much more citrusy than expected (personal preference entirely). read more

Hands down the best sushi spot in SoCal--even compared to Sugarfish & Kazu Nori! Chef Jesse and his team make the best sushi my fiancé and I have ever had since we came to this spot on our first date almost 3 yrs ago (but I've been ordering delivery from them before that ). I can't believe I haven't posted a review all these years but we always end up in a food coma bc everything we've had there is so good! Some of our fav dishes to order: yellowtail handroll, toro uni caviar truffle sushi (my fav), Kama toro (fiancé's fav), glazed shrimp, mushroom medley, pork belly skewers, sweet shrimp, Jorge's special (live scallops), ikura sushi, firefly octopus (seasonal octopus that comes out only during cherry blossom season) which Chef Jesse introduced us to along with the Kama toro and we end with dessert: unagi, snow crab hand roll &/ blue crab hand roll. The ambience is very chill and we love their decor and artwork on the walls and the staff is very nice and accommodating. We're surprised they haven't gotten a Michelin star yet but they should! read more

Overall: 10/10! I've been here three times and Seaweed delivers perfection every single time.The Food: Absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. I've brought picky eaters and family members who grew up on islands with fresh-fish diets, and every single person loved their meal.The Service: Top-notch. Everyone from the front house hostess to the servers and chefs is genuinely friendly and attentive.Note on Seating: The stools can be a bit uncomfortable if you have back or leg issues. Been wanting to try this place since it opened and we finally got the chance today. Everything from the ambiance, to the employees, chefs and food was amazing. Everything we tried was followed by "oh my god, that was my favorite one" because each thing we ordered was better than the other. Omg such a long awaited visit! Their social media pictures look exactly like they do in real life and they taste just as amazing! It was really good! Finally planned a day to come here to grab hand rolls before we got the day started. Never had a chance all the other times because honestly LA traffic is just horrible and being at 1 LA location to go to another is just a no. There's parking all around but of course you have to pay either on the street or in a lot. Walked inside and was immediately greeted by a host. The entire place was a U-shaped bar style so I wouldn't say it's kid friendly. No table seating at all. You can see the sushi chefs make it fresh to order. I ordered takeout and it came in a nice sturdy bag. The wait was supposed to be around 10-15 minutes for my 4 hand rolls but it felt longer. All the rolls I got were all delicious! Definitely lives up to its hype! I'm not sure why I thought they were going to be overpriced at over $20 a hand roll but maybe that was just 1 specialty hand roll but the ones I got ranged from $10-15? I ordered Negitoro, SOS, Araz, and spicy scallop. They all tasted like heaven! The sauces were tasty and it wasn't too saucy or messy and I loved the size they cut the pieces of fish instead of just turning them into mush. The opening of the roll was plastic like those Japanese ones to preserve the freshness but it was hard for us to take out probably since we're inexperienced. I'm still thinking about those rolls. read more

Very cute cozy sushi bar in Glendale. When you walk in there are no actual tables. It's all bar seating on stools. Ambience was great lively good music everyone enjoying their dinner. Staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. All the food we ordered tasted fresh and delicious, our waitress was very attentive, patient and friendly. Our favorites and a must try were the glazed crispy shrimp,, spicy albacore , Lena hand roll, kanpachi, albacore sashimi , and spicy tuna rice cakes . They were all fabulous. Not only do they nail the hand rolls here, but the rest of the menu is just as impressive. I ordered the Blue Crab, Yellowtail, and SOS hand roll (with salmon)--all incredibly fresh, and I love that the seaweed stays nice and crisp. Just a heads-up: the Blue Crab roll has mayo, so it's best to eat that one right away before the seaweed softens. My husband went with the Truffle Lobster Roll, Negitoro Roll, and Hokkaido Scallop sushi--everything was super fresh and flavorful. We also shared a few appetizers, including the mushroom miso soup, mushroom medley, brussels sprouts, and chicken skewers. Yes, we came hungry! Since seating is all at the bar, I really appreciated that the food came out one item at a time, perfectly paced. I do wish they had a hook for bags, but we came during off hours so it wasn't crowded, I just set my purse on the seat next to me. There's an 18% service charge automatically added for dine-in, similar to Kazu Nori, and tipping on top of that isn't required. Oh wow I just picked up another order from The Seaweed Sushi...Although I wish I was greeted instead of ignored when I picked up my order... but whatever. I finally got to try the sashimi octopus..... Whooo weeee!! It did not disappoint. Fresh and delicious with a believe was a spicy ponzu. I am a wuss when it comes to spicy but it was so tasty I could not stop eating it. I wish I would have ordered 2!! (But I am not that rich) I got my regular albacore sushi and sample trio along with an order of eel. I also tired the miso cod sushi and it was very tasty. Loving the buy one get one on certain days. I wish they had a loyalty card.... lol. This is for sure my favorite sushi spot! read more

I really like the interior of this sushi bar, it's full of vibes with a mecha-fish along a wall and nice art all around. The U shape bar centers the establishment & goes with the food presentation here is really nicely. Service is really nice, but a bit slow. Not the most attentive but kind of goes along with the chill vibes. I think the food in general is very flavorful in one way or another like the spoons had a lot of ponzu, or the tuna tartare is quite spicy, but kind of missing something to make it really 5 star worthy. All the hand rolls that we tried are really good and fresh. The yakitori also very good. Specially the black cod and Wagyu beef. If you want sushi rolls, you gotta order pick up/ to go via Postmates. The service is solid. Very attentive. Picked up all the empty plates every time a server walks by. They do charge 18% service charge no matter how big your party is for dine in. It is expensive for what it is though. read more

One of the most flavorful handroll bars i've been to so far! The prices do look on the higher end but don't be fooled! the amount they give you is double the size of a regular handroll. Everything was unique and flavorful from the shrimp to the cucumber salad. The handrolls that would make me come back for more are their SOS, Lena, and blue crab. Their spicy tuna is also great as well! read more

My sister took me here for the first time. She raved about this place and oh boy was she right! The whole restaurant is bar seating only so smaller parties are better. There are only barstools with no backing. We were served immediately. The sushi chefs are in front of you making everyone's orders. We ordered multiple rolls and apps. The crispy rice was delicious! Came during a weekend with reservations. Our group was the first ones there so not packed or busy at all. Our friend group each ordered about 3-4 hand rolls each person, shareable starters, and nigiris. I ordered the seared scallop handroll, blue crab handroll, Lena handroll, fried brussel sprouts, and glazed crispy shrimp. BLUE CRAB HANDROLL - My favorite hands down. It was not fishy at all and there was a lot of crab meat. Blue crab are usually hit or miss as some are too fish but this tasted fresh and was filled. SEARED SCALLOP HANDROLL - This was okay. It was recommended by my friend who had been here before but was mediocre to me and nothing special. There were 3 pieces of seared scallop but in terms of flavor did not wow me. LENA HANDROLL - I wanted a salmon handroll but this was just okay. It was too lemony for my liking. Just get a regular salmon handroll. FRIED BRUSSEL SPROUTS - I love fried Brussels sprouts and these were good. It had cauliflower as well which added a different vegetable and texture. I think it was also too lemony but still good. They are heavy handed with lemon. CRISPY GLAZED SHRIMP - this was also a hit! A good shareable dish Almost similar to walnut shrimp in my opinion with the mayo and slightly crisped shrimp. Overall, it's good as the hand rolls were a good size. Parking is only metered street parking which is usually hard to find spot on the weekends or a parking garage a block or so away. read more

What a surprise when I walked through the door and saw such a beautiful space. When I checked online, there were plenty of reservations available so we decided to just show up. Much to my surprise, without a reservation you can only be seated in a certain part of the restaurant. Reserve seats are for another area where there is a live music. But that was fine because we could still hear the music during our meal. Our server was quite good though it seemed as if he was also a maître D as he was running all over the restaurant. He made some great recommendations so we ordered quite a few dishes. First up was their Beetroot Carpaccio and Tuna Tartare. The beet dish was quite unique and very colorful! Overall, I really enjoyed it, but I think they overdid it with the truffle oil. The tuna tartare was not what I was expecting. While flavorful, it was more of a poke than a tartare in my opinion. Next up was their Vitello Tonnato salad. This was my least favorite of the night. The slices of roast beef were not tender and the salad didn't quite come together for me. For our entrées, we chose the Beef Cheeks and the grilled Lamb Chops. The lamb chops were exactly as expected, with a flavorful rub and cooked to perfection. But it was the beef cheeks that stole the show. They were slow cooked and fell apart the second you put your fork into them. They were obviously braised in red wine. The gnocchi underneath were obviously sautéed in the braising liquid as they took on the same red color and flavor. My only complaint about this dish is those gnocchi were not homemade. While tasty, they were obviously those vacuum sealed, store-bought types of gnocchi. This dish would have been so much better if those gnocchi were homemade. For dessert, we chose their signature Medovik, a multi layered cake. With the accompanying coffee, it was the perfect ending to the meal. We look forward to coming back and trying other things on the menu. Everything is a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it for a special occasion meal. While there were a couple of hiccups, it will not stop me from returning.

Instead, I felt like I was simply being told there was nothing they could do. When I said I would contact upper management for a resolution via email, the employee even seemed relieved, rather than concerned about resolving the issue. I understand mistakes happen, but the restaurant made the mistake--not me. The least they could have done was offer a refund for an overpriced burrito that I didn't even order. It's now past midnight, and I have to drive way out of my way just to find somewhere that's still open to get food. Very disappointing customer service, and unfortunately I won't be ordering from here again.

I originally found this spot after a food critic (@how.kev.eats) gave it a review and said the place was 9/10. Having tried many of the iconic sushi spots in LA and with Kev's review, I was going in with pretty high expectations, which Seaweed absolutely exceeded. Every item on the menu is quality. The prices initially seemed a bit high, but after trying it, I knew that they were justified and I was paying for a premium product. I've payed a lot more and gotten a lot less (portions and quality) at many of the well-known spots around LA. In terms of specific menu items, the salmon was absolutely perfect. The sushi immediately melts in your mouth and the rice it's served on is the perfect temperature. The seaweed is top quality - coming fresh & crunchy every time. My favorite hand rolls are the blue crab (best I've ever had) and the seaweed special (amazing blend of flavors). Their A5 wagyu is also to die for, if you feel like splurging a bit. Finally, the variety of fish and combinations that they serve is unmatched, and having now tried every menu item, I can say that each one's flavors are perfectly crafted with condiments and sauces. Finally, the environment. I've never met a more welcoming and warm staff. They made us feel like family on our first visit there, and every visit after. Valet or a nearby parking garage make arrival easy - I'd recommend the garage for convenience and savings. The interior, a massive U-shaped bar, sets the stage for an immersive experience. I always choose a front seat to interact with Executive Chef Jesse, whose expertise has kept me coming back. The omakase menu offers 8 or 12 pieces, and I consistently opt for the latter. Starters like Shishito peppers, cucumber salad, and mushroom soup set the stage for a culinary journey, featuring standout sashimi and elevated nigiri. The halibut, trout, Alaskan king crab with white truffle, and A5 Wagyu are memorable, followed by a spicy salmon handroll and then an uni, ikura, and toro handroll. Jesse's mastery shines through, and his knowledge and creativity elevate the dining experience. I've often wondered why Seaweed Handroll Bar hasn't found its place on the Michelin Guide. They check off all the boxes They have quite possibly the best yellowtail i've tried The hand rolls are fresh & crunchy as they serve it to you right when it's made, not soggy and aged like most restaurants out there. They have a great variety of sake that I always order The chefs are very knowledgeable on all the fish and will tell you what to put on your sushi if you ask them, if it's best with soy sauce or not etc. And the atmosphere, it's almost always a good time in the restaurant everyone's always happy, people giving their neighbors at the bar free drinks on busy nights I always get my moneys worth here. No food comas afterwards feeling sick either.. that's how I know I had a quality meal read more

Let me just say... this sushi restaurant is definitely the best I've ever been to!! First off great staff! I was greeted immediately by the host and all of the chefs and servers with smiles. I came in on a busy night with no reservation but they accommodated and I was even offered on the house sake shots, and yakitori while I waited. Once my table was ready I was seated and served immediately. The presentation alone was incredible, and the sushi was even better!! I even ordered some kitchen specials and those were just as amazing(I recommend the wagyu ishiyaki). I would say the prices fit for the quality and quantity I received as well. I recently placed an order based on your advertisement that clearly stated "Buy One, Get One Free." However, I did not receive the second free item, despite fulfilling the promotion's implied conditions. When I contacted your representatives, Amanda and Lily, they informed me that I needed to add the second item to my cart to receive it free. This requirement was never mentioned anywhere on the website or in the promotional material. The ad simply said "Buy One, Get One Free," which I reasonably understood as receiving the second item at no additional cost without needing to take extra steps. I had an incredible dining experience at Seaweed! The sushi was fresh and delicious, but what really stood out was the top-notch service from our server, Antonio. From the moment we sat down, he made us feel welcomed and taken care of. He was attentive without being overbearing, gave great recommendations, and even took the time to explain some of the more unique items on the menu. Antonio's attention to detail and friendly attitude elevated the entire meal. We never had to ask for anything twice, and he made sure we always had what we needed. I came here the other day for lunch with a friend, and we had such a great experience! The sushi was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious -- you can really taste the quality in every bite. Chef Jaocob (sorry if misspelled) went above and beyond, providing us with two beautifully plated sushi dishes to try, and they were both phenomenal. I would just like to say this is the best sushi i have ever had in my entire life. And thats compared to a LOT. Its sad to see bad reviews based on the pricing at seaweed. The menus posted on their instagram with prices and they write that they are adding 18% service fee on both their menu and their machine, so nothing should be surprising regarding the price. You get what you're paying for. I even tipped on top of the 18% even though the waitress told me i dont have too. I absolutely believe they deserve every cent of it. Next time you go please get the omakase!!!! read more

The menu is very diverse with options for both cooked meals or regular sushi. They also have specials every day of the week which is a bonus. This is the best sushi spot I've ever had. All other sushi places have been ruined for my husband and I because Seaweed is just *that* amazing! It's incredibly disappointing when they promise a 30-minute delivery but takes 1 hour and 25 minutes. Using a large order as an excuse for the delay only adds to the frustration, as it shows a lack of proper planning and resource management.
