Combo add on for the ramen. Side salad and rice with chicken teriyaki.

It was a very nice experience. The sushi rolls were very good, same with the brussel sprouts. I had the veggie miso ramen. It was good, although next time I think I'll try an entre. The service was good. I felt like they took care of us without being overbearing. The interior was nice. Sometime I would like to sit on the patio. looking forward to having their food again.

Might be the best ramen I've ever had. Been here before a while ago and I didn't remember just how good it was. Got the Tonkatsu Black and it was unbelievably tasty! I love skinny noodles so these were perfect, the chashu was cooked to perfection and they give you a lot of it, black garlic oil was the cherry on top. I almost asked for no kale because I didn't want too much leafy green in there but I left it in, it ended up being small pieces that were crispy so I enjoyed it. The staff was all lovely as well and we sat outside to see the beautiful mountains! Can't recommend this place enough.

Kontentsu is a decent restaurant in the heart of Montrose offering sushi, ramen, and other Japanese fare. Our family came on a Wednesday evening, where we enjoyed the Baked Salmon roll ($17) a decent, slightly heavy cooked roll with a sweet hoisin sauce, the signature Kontentsu roll ($17) a (quite) spicy tuna roll with yet more tuna on top, and the delectable Crunch Albacore roll ($17), a crab and shrimp filled roll with seared albacore and crunchy onions on top. This final roll was unique, delicious, not too heavy, and bursting with flavor, with the crunchy onions contrasting markedly against the delicate sushi on top - a must try. Our children shared a Tonkotsu Ramen, which was good but nothing exceptional. The service was very friendly and accommodating, even for our quite dynamic children, where we were seated readily and cared for throughout the evening. The inside is cozy, clean, and unassuming. Prices, listed above, were fairly standard for food of this quality. At the end of the visit, I liked Kontentsu. With the exception of the Crunch Albacore roll, it was good but not extraordinary, but perhaps that is what Japanese cuisine is meant to be: quality, reliable, and understated. If you're in the area, look no further, Kontentsu won't let you down. Food: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 4/5

This is our second time at Kontetsu and enjoyed our food. We came right when they opened so got seated right away. By the time we left more people came so this place gets packed and busy. The place is simple but the chandelier made of strainers was cool. The food is pretty solid and delicious except for the side of pork belly that I got. It was over grilled and dry.. felt like it's not freshly made just reheated. Other than that we enjoyed everything we ordered especially the free marinated veggies on the table part of the condiments.

So boom... I'm in Glendale visiting my papa, and my dad says, "Let's grab something to eat on the way out." As if I was ever going to say no to food. Please be serious. We ordered a little bit of everything because decisions are hard. We started with the Brussels sprouts (shockingly amazing), the spicy tuna crisp (my absolute fave, no notes), karaage chicken (I loved it, but my dad said he's had better--because of course he did apparently the flavor "wasn't up to par"), and the spider slider. Now let's discuss this spider slider situation. The name makes it sound like you're getting two sliders. Lies. Deception. It's one slider cut in half BUT it is a lightly buttered soft-shell crab, and it was good, so I'll let it slide... this time. For entrées: My dad's caregiver got the pork katsu. My dad got the sizzling albacore and when I tell you it was DELICIOUS--I mean capital letters, exclamation points, the whole thing. I got the South Pasadena roll, no avocado (because allergies like to ruin everything). Honestly, everything that touched our table was fire. I would absolutely drive back just to eat here again. No hesitation. Service? Great. Friendly. Attentive. No chasing servers around the restaurant--love that for us. Ambiance is chill. The spot is on the smaller side but wheelchair accessible, on the second floor, and there's plenty of parking (a true blessing). If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and pull up. Your taste buds will thank you.

Love the ambiance of the restaurant! Definitely a good place to get that perfect digi cam photo. The rolls are a little on the pricier side, but the ramen is perfectly seasoned and the noodles are cooked al-dente. Make sure to order the combo meal (choice of ramen with a rice bowl & salad) if you want to explore the delicious menu.

    Spicy ramen & yellowtail roll
    North H.

I'll start with the important one first, the FOOD! The spicy ramen was good but nothing incredible unfortunately, it wasn't spicy enough compared to most places but that's not the problem the problem was the flavor. It just wasn't anything different that stood out. It was good don't get me wrong but not my go-to. The yellowtail roll was average as well, looked better than it tastes but I still ate it all. The service is great they are very friendly and fast. The ambiance is cool, it's very lowkey. Just the typical second floor ramen spot. Maybe I'll try another ramen bowl next time I come. 4/5 Stars because the food wasn't bad plus the service and presentation gave it another star.

    Matthew M.

Best ramen in the area. The Spicy Mazemen ramen is amazing, one of my favorite dishes! Spicy, creamy, umami. Highly recommend checking out this dish! Great staff and friendly service. Easy online ordering for takeout. Parking lot onsite. Reasonable prices for the quality of the food. Sushi, karaage, and gyoza are all tasty as well. Will definitely be back!

Came here with a friend for dinner, and the interior was beautiful with a great aesthetic. My friend ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen, while I had the karaage chicken curry bowl. The curry was good, but nothing particularly special and I think I would have preferred katsu chicken with the curry, or at least for the karaage chicken to be a bit crispier. The ramen, on the other hand, was very good and we both enjoyed it. My only real complaint was the lack of attentiveness from our waiter, though it seemed the restaurant was understaffed with just one server handling a full room, so I don't blame him for that.

This place is soooo cute!!! It's cozy and warm and inviting. They have the most amazing Brussel sprouts and ramen I've ever had! The Brussel sprouts were super crispy and the flavor was not overbearing, it was perfect. I got the black tonkotsu with pork, and the pork was the best pork I've truly ever had!! It was tender and not chewy but not stiff. The flavor was amazing. The broth and noodles were really delicious too! It's definitely going to be my go to ramen when I come here. The service was great, the waiters were all super sweet and the place was crowded but not overly crowded or loud. Highly recommend this place and I can't wait to come back!

    Shoyu and spicy tuna roll
    Brian R.

Enjoyable spot for dinner or lunch. Went with Shoyu bowl and ordered extra ramen and chicken. Very hearty with good flavor not being too spicy. Noise level is a little on louder side and chairs could be a little more comfortable but okay overall. Took about 10 minutes for someone to ask for our order but after that, service was fine. Prices aren't bad either.

Are there any gluten free options?

At this time there are no gluten free ramen. As Japanese/Asian food we use soy sauce in preparation in most dishes and cannot omit it later, and soy sauce is not gluten free. At the moment we cannot guarantee any items as gluten free. Our apologies.

    Do they take reservations?

No reservations. It's first come first served

Do they use MSG in here?

I'd recommend calling them. I do know the ramen tastes really salty. Almost too salty and Glendale drinking water tastes awful.

    What is your business number?

    (818) 330-9224

Do they do take out? I know it's not the same as eating it in there...

Yes there is take out. Won't be exactly the same but they separate the components.. always better to have it there tho!

HAKATA SET (Your choice of: Tonkotsu or Miso Ramen, comes with Mini Spicy Tuna Don, Chicken Karaage 2 pcs, Tsukemono) This was one of the set items for the lunch special. Chose the miso ramen. The miso ramen had a very strong white miso flavor. Didn't hate it, as I do love miso, but it was a little too much miso for my liking. Typical curly ramen and it was cooked well. Loved the jammy egg too. It was a soy marinated egg. There were also three pieces of chashu too! It was good, but slightly overcooked. The portion of the ramen was medium sized and was surprised they didn't bring a smaller size since it was a set meal. But happy they were generous! Spicy tuna don was a small bowl, but they gave a good portion of spicy tuna, which was delicious. Chicken karaage were two pieces of chicken and it was just okay. No tsukemono was served with the meal. Overall the meal was satisfying. I think the price was fair for what was given. CUSTOMER SERVICE Good, friendly and attentive customer service. No complaints! AMBIANCE / TABLES + SEATS Very calm and relaxing ambiance. It was quiet and no music was playing, which I liked. The restaurant was super clean and I liked how the tables were set. Large tables in the back and small tables were closer to the front. Bar seats on the side. It was a medium-sized restaurant, but the layout made it feel larger. Clean bathroom too. PARKING The closest and most logical parking spot was the one right across from the restaurant. School House Garage on 33 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91105. Rates: $1.00 first 2 hrs, $2.00 for each additional hour. $12 for the full day. I liked the set menu, it was good for the price and I would like to return to try their other lunch menu items, whether it would be a set menu or a la carte.

So after the gathering ended, I went upstairs to Sushi Sasabunè since I knew from my previous experience at their Brentwood mother restaurant to be excellent. The interior is "Shibui" which in Japanese can mean artistically austere, minimalist. There is a Sushi bar, but it is reserved for Omakasè (oh mah kah seh) only. So, I couldn't sit and interact directly with the counter Sushi chef that day who was informative but aloof which is typical in Japan. I only spoke with the chef upon entry to determine what kind of specialties that he may offer. I asked for only Èdo Maè (eh doh mah eh) Nigiri Sushi that had either unusual ingredients or techniques which he delivered in spades. My young waiter né Hiroshima made up for the lack of the Sushi chef's personality delivering the various rare item Sushi with a warm conviviality. 1) Shiro Maguro/Albacore: Ultra thin, pinkish orange meat that is naturally found in between the sinews which have to be extracted by hand with tweezers. Double layered on top of hand formed Nigiri (nee ghee ree) Sushi rice, it is plush, velvety, melt in your mouth with delicately meaty Umami. Truly a food for the Gods. 2) Nodo Guro: Black throat perch that is again even more plush white meat to the point of being a touch mushy with a soupçon of sweet meatiness. To add contrast, the skin is flamed seared to add firmness and smokey accent. 3) Katsuo: Bonito is wrapped & cured in rice straw. Then the straw is burned to add light smoke. The dark crimson meat is satisfyingly beefy-meaty with taste of blood minerality from being aged like a well aged steak. The Garlic Katsuo Dashi Shōyu/soy sauce, which also seems rich in Katsuo Dashi fond de cuisine, is a good complementary addition as well as a bit of refreshing medicinal freshly ground ginger root to offset the complex Umami flavours. 1-3a) Fuku Komachi Sakè (sah keh) from Akita, Japan is astringent, dry, cleansing with fruit notes of green grape, loquat, unripe & ripe pear, overly ripe peach. There's a bitter & aged aftertaste but later, a sweet note, touch woody. Overall, a very sophisticated Sushi restaurant that has specialized cuisine for those who are interested in educating their palates. No county fair rolls that use thick sweet eel sauce, mayonnaise, Sriracha hot sauce. 4+ stars.

Good sushi isn't cheap anywhere, and Blue Fish is no exception--but the quality matches the price. I highly recommend the Anoosh Roll--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly crunchy.

We came here for early lunch and ordered a few items on the menu. -Karage - it was okay. Pieces were big which was nice but there were some fatty pieces and little meat. I wasn't too big of a fan of the sauce either. - Ramen - broth and noodles flavors were good, but the egg was completely wrong and didn't have the umami flavors. It was just a hard boiled egg, which was disappointing. But my son really enjoyed the ramen and says he wants to come back for the ramen. - Caterpillar roll - mediocre rolls, that are a bit more on the smaller side. Flavor was fine, it was to be expected. - Beef bento box - also just ok. There were only about 3-4 pieces of beef, and most of it was vegetables. Nothing special. We'll probably come back here for the ramen but will probably avoid other items.

Stumbled in on a Wednesday in the early evening, and had plenty of open seating to choose from…read more Immediately, I was cheerfully greeted and seated by one the servers, and then given two menus--a traditional folding menu with a padded backing I can really only describe as "satisfyingly textured," and a beautiful 3x8 wooden slab engraved with a QR code for the picture menu. I had planned to be phone-free for the hour, but curiosity bested me and I whipped out my phone for a scan. The bulgogi with rice and miso called to me, strangely, considering the heat outside. The atmosphere at this slow hour was so nice I almost wished it was raining. A few Clairo and The Marías songs later (at the perfect volume--audible, but still low enough to have a quiet chat) my miso soup arrived. Now, it's been a good few years since I've had miso soup, and I've never really been crazy about it, but this... this was some damn good soup. Liquid umami. Then the bulgogi and rice came. This is the best bulgogi I've ever had. So tender. Quite literally melted in my mouth. Punches of savory juice, tender fatty bits, golden brown perfectly caramelized onions, and a sweetness to bring it all together. Every bite was perfect. It washed over me and my shoulders and spine practically uncoiled themselves. I want to try more from the menu but... I'm... I'm going to need this again. Like tomorrow. I should say, especially for the price, this is a lot o' grub. A perfect filling portion, especially with the rice and soup. I had a smoothie a couple hours earlier so I really should've asked for a to-go box 80% of the way through... but I was just having too much fun stuffing my face to stop. To recap--lovely service, great music, and food to live for. And a restroom. It's not public, but they do have a restroom. Thank god for that restroom. I was hungry, yes, but more than anything I really needed that restroom.

My partner and I shared the rainbow roll, mango cha cha roll, lemon salmon roll, salmon bento box, and cheese bulgogi. I really enjoyed the creative specialty sushi rolls, with my favorite roll being the mango cha cha roll. It tasted savory from the crispy shrimp tempura, while the fresh mango on top added a nice, refreshing pop of sweetness. As for the lemon salmon roll, it tasted fresh and more citrus-forward. Surprisingly, the salmon bento box was very filling and balanced. This included 2 pieces of grilled teriyaki salmon, 4 pieces of California roll, mixed tempura, miso soup, and a small salad with dressing. For anyone who does not eat raw fish, this would be the perfect dish. For the cheese bulgogi, there was a sweet-savory soy garlic flavor. I liked that the meat was thinly sliced, which paired perfectly with the gooey melted cheese. However, it was a bit saltier than I'd like it to be. Some rice and miso soup was served alongside this to balance out the richness from the cheese. Service could have been better. It seems that the staff were not very attentive at times, even though the place was not busy. Nonetheless, all of the food was pretty good and there was a chill atmosphere. This is a solid sushi bar to visit for either lunch or dinner.
