It was a very nice experience. The sushi rolls were very good, same with the brussel sprouts. I had the veggie miso ramen. It was good, although next time I think I'll try an entre. The service was good. I felt like they took care of us without being overbearing. The interior was nice. Sometime I would like to sit on the patio. looking forward to having their food again.
sluuuuuurp. that's the sound of me coming here anytime it rains. cute, quaint ambiance, plenty of parking, and delicious ramen with some of the best-tasting, fatty pork chashu i've ever had
Kontentsu is still a great restaurant and I really have to make it part of our regular rotation. Fast, friendly service with a great selection of Tonkatsu, udon and now sukiyaki. Really great meal.
THE SERVICE WAS MUCH BETTER TODAY ================================= My friend drove out from Ventura to meet me for lunch. The rain stopped, the weather was cool and it was a perfect time for ramen. I ordered the black garlic tonkotsu ramen with the addition of broccoli and kale noodles. It was so good.
Might be the best ramen I've ever had. Been here before a while ago and I didn't remember just how good it was. Got the Tonkatsu Black and it was unbelievably tasty! I love skinny noodles so these were perfect, the chashu was cooked to perfection and they give you a lot of it, black garlic oil was the cherry on top. I almost asked for no kale because I didn't want too much leafy green in there but I left it in, it ended up being small pieces that were crispy so I enjoyed it. The staff was all lovely as well and we sat outside to see the beautiful mountains! Can't recommend this place enough.
Kontentsu is a decent restaurant in the heart of Montrose offering sushi, ramen, and other Japanese fare. Our family came on a Wednesday evening, where we enjoyed the Baked Salmon roll ($17) a decent, slightly heavy cooked roll with a sweet hoisin sauce, the signature Kontentsu roll ($17) a (quite) spicy tuna roll with yet more tuna on top, and the delectable Crunch Albacore roll ($17), a crab and shrimp filled roll with seared albacore and crunchy onions on top. This final roll was unique, delicious, not too heavy, and bursting with flavor, with the crunchy onions contrasting markedly against the delicate sushi on top - a must try. Our children shared a Tonkotsu Ramen, which was good but nothing exceptional. The service was very friendly and accommodating, even for our quite dynamic children, where we were seated readily and cared for throughout the evening. The inside is cozy, clean, and unassuming. Prices, listed above, were fairly standard for food of this quality. At the end of the visit, I liked Kontentsu. With the exception of the Crunch Albacore roll, it was good but not extraordinary, but perhaps that is what Japanese cuisine is meant to be: quality, reliable, and understated. If you're in the area, look no further, Kontentsu won't let you down. Food: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 4/5
This is our second time at Kontetsu and enjoyed our food. We came right when they opened so got seated right away. By the time we left more people came so this place gets packed and busy. The place is simple but the chandelier made of strainers was cool. The food is pretty solid and delicious except for the side of pork belly that I got. It was over grilled and dry.. felt like it's not freshly made just reheated. Other than that we enjoyed everything we ordered especially the free marinated veggies on the table part of the condiments.
Enjoyable spot for dinner or lunch. Went with Shoyu bowl and ordered extra ramen and chicken. Very hearty with good flavor not being too spicy. Noise level is a little on louder side and chairs could be a little more comfortable but okay overall. Took about 10 minutes for someone to ask for our order but after that, service was fine. Prices aren't bad either.
The area's greatest ramen. It's not packed. The cuisine is delicious. For a far better return, the price is only a few dollars higher than elsewhere. It's a fantastic view. Fantastic location. Every visit is always joyful.
So boom... I'm in Glendale visiting my papa, and my dad says, "Let's grab something to eat on the way out." As if I was ever going to say no to food. Please be serious. We ordered a little bit of everything because decisions are hard. We started with the Brussels sprouts (shockingly amazing), the spicy tuna crisp (my absolute fave, no notes), karaage chicken (I loved it, but my dad said he's had better--because of course he did apparently the flavor "wasn't up to par"), and the spider slider. Now let's discuss this spider slider situation. The name makes it sound like you're getting two sliders. Lies. Deception. It's one slider cut in half BUT it is a lightly buttered soft-shell crab, and it was good, so I'll let it slide... this time. For entrées: My dad's caregiver got the pork katsu. My dad got the sizzling albacore and when I tell you it was DELICIOUS--I mean capital letters, exclamation points, the whole thing. I got the South Pasadena roll, no avocado (because allergies like to ruin everything). Honestly, everything that touched our table was fire. I would absolutely drive back just to eat here again. No hesitation. Service? Great. Friendly. Attentive. No chasing servers around the restaurant--love that for us. Ambiance is chill. The spot is on the smaller side but wheelchair accessible, on the second floor, and there's plenty of parking (a true blessing). If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and pull up. Your taste buds will thank you.
Best ramen in the area. The Spicy Mazemen ramen is amazing, one of my favorite dishes! Spicy, creamy, umami. Highly recommend checking out this dish! Great staff and friendly service. Easy online ordering for takeout. Parking lot onsite. Reasonable prices for the quality of the food. Sushi, karaage, and gyoza are all tasty as well. Will definitely be back!
I'll start with the important one first, the FOOD! The spicy ramen was good but nothing incredible unfortunately, it wasn't spicy enough compared to most places but that's not the problem the problem was the flavor. It just wasn't anything different that stood out. It was good don't get me wrong but not my go-to. The yellowtail roll was average as well, looked better than it tastes but I still ate it all. The service is great they are very friendly and fast. The ambiance is cool, it's very lowkey. Just the typical second floor ramen spot. Maybe I'll try another ramen bowl next time I come. 4/5 Stars because the food wasn't bad plus the service and presentation gave it another star.

Came here with my bestie for a quick dinner. Located on the second floor of the strip mall, Kontentsu is a cute little restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. We ordered one of their new menu items, the curry udon. It came out fairly quickly and was surprisingly flavorful. The dish was also incredibly filling. All in all, we enjoyed our dinner. ****************** My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. Average. Might return if others drag me. 4 Stars: Yum! Likely to return. 5 Stars: Amazing! Would plan my day around it. read more

Service was fast for just one dude working, he was super nice Ambiance is lovely I like the vibe and the seating Honestly things needed salt but I like the Brussels sprouts a lot, the aioli that comes with the karaage and sprouts are nice. Gyudon needed more flavour. I enjoyed the fact that they had a jar of pickled veggies on the side read more

Came here with a friend for dinner, and the interior was beautiful with a great aesthetic. My friend ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen, while I had the karaage chicken curry bowl. The curry was good, but nothing particularly special and I think I would have preferred katsu chicken with the curry, or at least for the karaage chicken to be a bit crispier. The ramen, on the other hand, was very good and we both enjoyed it. My only real complaint was the lack of attentiveness from our waiter, though it seemed the restaurant was understaffed with just one server handling a full room, so I don't blame him for that. read more
This place is soooo cute!!! It's cozy and warm and inviting. They have the most amazing Brussel sprouts and ramen I've ever had! The Brussel sprouts were super crispy and the flavor was not overbearing, it was perfect. I got the black tonkotsu with pork, and the pork was the best pork I've truly ever had!! It was tender and not chewy but not stiff. The flavor was amazing. The broth and noodles were really delicious too! It's definitely going to be my go to ramen when I come here. The service was great, the waiters were all super sweet and the place was crowded but not overly crowded or loud. Highly recommend this place and I can't wait to come back! read more

Love the ambiance of the restaurant! Definitely a good place to get that perfect digi cam photo. The rolls are a little on the pricier side, but the ramen is perfectly seasoned and the noodles are cooked al-dente. Make sure to order the combo meal (choice of ramen with a rice bowl & salad) if you want to explore the delicious menu. read more

I went on a weekday lunch at Kontentsu. There is nearby free parking lot. It was fast service with one staff going around to serve the customers. I liked the Tonkotsu. The pork was really soft to chew. The soup flavor meets my taste of not being salty. The Albacore roll was tender & less fishy. The restaurant has indoor & outdoor sitting. It has a slight japanese ambiance feeling with gray finish wall. It is my first time here. I may come back with my family. read more

Ambiance is perfect for a slurping ramen vibe in a cool space with cool hanging art deco lights and cherry blossom branches hugging a wall. Service was fast once we were seated. We were waiting for quite awhile. Here's what I got from the menu: Tonkotsu Black $18.50 Roasted garlic infused pork bone broth. With your choice of braised pork chashu or chicken. Along with bean sprouts, scallions, seaweed paper and sweet soy marinated soft boiled egg, then topped with our kale and onion crunch, finished with a drizzle of roasted black garlic oil. Intense flavor to satisfy your ramen fix. -------- Ramen delivered just as described in menu. Noodles were freshly made and the perfect chewy al dente ramen noodles you could ever ask for. Broth was rich and cozy. Warm your soul type of rich. Pork Chashu came in thick slices that were perfectly cooked. Thinly sliced scallion ribbons piled atop the ramen compliments the noodles with each slurp. read more
**Rating experience with a small child** My 5 year old and I were craving ramen at our newly moved neighborhood and decided to check out some local spots. We came across Kontentsu and decided to give them a try. We had a hard time finding them at first, not realizing that they are on the upstairs floor. There was plenty of free parking in the public space, so that was not an issue at all. We came here for two things and two things only: edamame and tonkotsu ramen. I ordered a regular meal and asked for extra noodles ($2.50 additional) which made it into a perfect meal to share with my son. He insisted we get corn and extra seaweed as well. My son LOVED it! He kept giving thumbs up and saying it's a 5-star rating, and chowed it down relatively fast (impressive for a child that usually eats extremely slowly). He's also had quite a lot of ramen, and also had some delicious meals in Japan, so I was pleased that he liked his meal. Service was friendly, fast, and we got served right away. They were very friendly to my son, which is always appreciated, and they made us feel very welcome. Will definitely come back to the other items! read more

Kontentsu such a quaint restaurant serving one of the best ramen I've had in LA. The broth, light yet boasting with flavor, ramen noodles, tender with a perfect chew with every bite. Add a bit of togarashi seasoning and you have a marriage of flavor. Are you a Brussel sprout lover? If you're not, you will be after trying the appetizer Brussels from kontentsu. Wait staff extremely attentive and respectful. Restaurant is very clean, and well managed. read more

This is a somewhat hidden restaurant since it's located on the 2nd floor of a small plaza. Inside is a simple and clean space with cute decor. The vegetable miso ramen was DELICIOUS. I got it vegan with the kale noodles and it was perfect texture. It was a filling meal and enjoyed every bite. The service was friendly and attentive, so they are doing a great job! Highly recommend trying this one out if you're craving some Japanese ramen! read more

Literally the best ramen in LA, we've eaten everyone and this place is amazing and the prices are amazing for what they offer. Love the design of the inside and the service is good, our server was "Kat" I think, but we had lot of things for us two, skip every ramen shop and come here read more

Are there any gluten free options?
At this time there are no gluten free ramen. As Japanese/Asian food we use soy sauce in preparation in most dishes and cannot omit it later, and soy sauce is not gluten free. At the moment we cannot guarantee any items as gluten free. Our apologies.
Do they use MSG in here?
I'd recommend calling them. I do know the ramen tastes really salty. Almost too salty and Glendale drinking water tastes awful.
Do they do take out? I know it's not the same as eating it in there...
Yes there is take out. Won't be exactly the same but they separate the components.. always better to have it there tho!
